has earned recognition as a Knight of the Round the past 2 years. She
is interested in becoming a lawyer. Payton enjoys playing football,
riding his dirt bike, and has also been recognized as a Knight of the
Round for OMMS. Payton is interested in becoming an architect.
Alpine Bank Students of the Month receive a $500 scholarship to
CMU. The scholarship is renewable yearly for as long as they attend
CMU. Eighth grade students are eligible for the award. Two students
are selected each month based on academic excellence, as well as
demonstrating a great work ethic, good citizenship, and leadership.
Parents !!! Please check your students lunch account balances. If the
free and reduced form has not been filled out, sent in, and approved
then your student has gone to a full pay for lunch. You can fill out free
and reduced forms at anytime during the school year. For
faster results you can apply online at the District 51 website, click on Nutrition Services. For any questions, please
contact Melony Roth at the OMMS cafeteria. If you have
filled the form out and have not heard anything please
call Connie at 254-5181.
North Pole Store Information
Student Council is excited to announce that we will once again sponsor
a NORTH POLE STORE for students at Dos Rios Elementary School.
Student Council would like to solicit donations of new items that might
be appropriate for elementary students to give to members of their family. Gifts for babies, parents, brothers and sisters, pets and grandparents
are welcome, but we especially need gifts for teenaged boys. The NORTH
POLE STORE will benefit 30-40 elementary students who may not be
able to afford a very merry Christmas. On the day of the store, members
of Student Council will help the elementary students shop for and wrap
gifts for their families. It is truly a wonderful and meaningful experience
for all participants.
If you have any gifts that you would like to donate, please contact Barb
Pruessing at 257-6331 or bring the gift items to the counseling office.

Knights of Excellence is a way to recognize students every month at
Orchard Mesa Middle School. A boy and girl are picked by their core
teachers at each grade level for showing knightly behavior of; Safety,
Ethics and Respect. The comments made by staff, their picture, and
a bio sheet (the student fills out) will be displayed in the library for a
month on the east wall. Then we put it in the cafeteria for a month to be
displayed. It is then returned to them to keep forever. At the end of
each semester all the KOE’s will be invited to a pizza party hosted by
Mrs. Garcia and Mrs. Bavor.
The picks for October are:

SCIENCE FAIR!!!
During second quarter, students have the opportunity to do a science
fair project. Please check with your science teacher for details. Our
school science fair will be held in January, and the Colorado Western
Slope Regional Science Fair will be held at CMU at the end of February .
If you are a “blooming scientist”, think about doing science fair this
year. Questions? Please check with Ms. Chase or your science teacher.
CANNED FOOD DRIVE
Student Council is gearing up for the canned food drive this
year. We will need to begin the drive much earlier than last
year due to the high demand for supplies for the holidays. The
Salvation Army is anticipating a huge demand for those in need this
year. Our goal is to have our food collected by November 15th to ensure
that they have enough food for Thanksgiving. This means we will need to
begin collecting cans on November 8th and will end on November 15th.
We are going to ask that students bring their cans to their 5 th period
class. The 5th period class who collects the most cans will be rewarded
with a root beer float party on Friday, November 22rd.
The Student Council representative in your 5th period class will collect the
cans from teachers and bring them to the office as needed. The representative will count the cans and keep a running total of the amount collected. We will announce the top three classes weekly and keep a chart in
the cafeteria.
Again, we truly appreciate the effort OMMS puts into this event every year
and hopefully we can raise enough cans to make a difference for our local
families.
Good luck!!
OMMS Science Club meets every Thursday after school. Everyone who
has curiosity and a desire to learn more about science are welcome!!

Thanks to all of the parent volunteers! A special thank you goes out to Teri Chin & Barbra Hogue for their countless hours of
obtaining prizes for the band students!!
OMMS 5K News!
PTO would like to give a big shout of thanks to everyone that helped support our 1st annual 5K fundraiser. It was a great success! Maggie
LaHue did an amazing job of getting sponsors and putting this whole event together! We appreciate those that helped get the word out as
well as those that signed up to join us in the beautiful CO outdoors. The majority of the money raised will go to the Orchard Mesa library
for the purchase of books. The rest will support other school and student needs. Come to the PTO meeting Nov. 12 th at 6p.m. to be a part
of that discussion. The 5K raised around $4,500!
Everyone was a winner because they were helping out a good cause. There were awards given to the first runner in each age division to cross the
finish line. Those were: age 1-12=men: True Tobiasson, women: Sidney Peet; age 13-19=men: Logan Harrington (also our event 1st finisher and our
men’s youth overall), women: Dixie Poteet (also women’s youth overall); age 20-39=men: none, women: Carly Livingston; age 40-59= men: Wes Rogers (also men’s adult overall), women: Maryanne Rogers (also women’s adult overall); age 60-99= men: Dan Kollin, women: Liz Norris. Congrats to all!
