WELCOME LETTER FROM NOOSHEEN HASHEMI
Welcome to the inaugural gala of your community foundation! The first national institution
dedicated to the growth of strategic philanthropy within the Persian diaspora. How lucky
we are to live in the most philanthropic country in the world and to bring to it our unique
traditions of giving and innate entrepreneurial spirit.
Tonight, we are celebrating the beauty of Persian culture and the evolution of its philanthropy.
We are reminded of the ancient Persian values of tolerance, freedom and hospitality and of
our responsibility to perpetuate them wherever we might find ourselves. We are taking a
moment to recognize how far we have come and how far we must still go.
The nascent Persian community is faced with multiple challenges of keeping its children
connected to their Persian heritage, taking care of its aging parents and asserting a positive
Persian identity in America. These needs exhibit themselves in the form of requests for
cultural community centers to benefit the youth and elderly, Iranian studies programs at
universities to include Persian language classes, accurate and adequate representation in the
arts, and so on.
Only a sense of co-responsibility and equal sacrifice can ensure our community’s success. We
look into the future with great optimism and faith that our community members will rise to
the challenge of taking care of our own, and more. The last two years have been a great
learning experience driving home the point that while competence and financial resources
matter, passion is what matters most. As my honored friend, Mrs. Amidi, says: “money
doesn’t change the world, love does.”
The funds raised tonight will be used to strengthen enterprising nonprofits and help them
scale successful local programs nationally. They will also be used to shine a bright light on the
efforts of selfless volunteers and generous philanthropists so that they may inspire others. We
will expand PARSA CF’s marketplace, a great convening point for grant seekers, donors and
volunteers to learn more about each others’ efforts and collaborate. We strive to not only grow
the whole philanthropic pie but also to squeeze every bit of good out of every dollar spent.
We extend our gratitude to the event committee, Graff Diamonds, Medallion Rug Gallery, our
sponsors and every one of PARSA CF’s donors for their generosity. Enjoy the evening.

GREETING FROM THE MAYOR
On behalf of the City and County of San Francisco, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the PARSA
Community Foundation Inaugural Gala-An Evening Celebrating Persian Heritage. I am also pleased to
acknowledge tonight’s honorees, Simone Otus Coxe - Volunteerism and Action Award Recipient and
Ali Saberioon - Philanthropist of the Year Award Recipient.
The diversity of San Francisco has always been a great strength of our City. Equally, San Franciscans
have always been proud of the leadership in our multicultural communities that have helped shape our
nation in the on-going challenge to foster equality, acceptance, and tolerance for all people. The same
principles cherished by PARSA and the Persian community throughout the Bay Area.
I commend PARSA for its community service and commitment to philanthropic causes. We see the
greatness of America in those who have risen above social barriers and have enriched our society
through education, the preservation and advancement of arts and culture, leadership development, and
civic integration.
I wish every one a very enjoyable evening and best wishes for a successful event!
