WORK THE

Work with the climate. Chances are you work both indoors and outdoors during all four
seasons. Meaning rain, snow and wind – and huge temperature variations. Dress right, work smart. With the
3-layers of the Snickers Workwear System you can.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL. Our garments are
designed so that you can easily trap body heat or
release it by regulating the airflow – both at the collar
and the waist. Think of it as a built-in temperature
control system.

First layer for moisture transport. Here we’re
talking about underwear. Of course it has to be
soft and comfortable yet extremely hard
wearing. But it also must keep your body dry and
warm. So forget cotton – it absorbs and retains
water. The answer? Wicking Polyester. Check out
our First Layer Briefs, T-shirts, Turtle Necks and
Long Johns. See page 25.

Second layer for insulation. These garments are
designed to insulate by creating a pocket of air
around your body – keeping you warm. We have
used advanced porous materials, such as micro
fleece, fleece, pile and quilt. Our Micro Fleece
Long Johns and 8006 Fleece Jacket are perfect
examples. See page 25 and 13.

CLIMATE COMFORT. Advanced
protection requires advanced
ventilation, so that you can adjust the
temperature for optimal comfort. The
front zipper is one way, ventilation
zippers under the arms and at the back
are another. So too is being able to
adjust the bottom of jackets and
trousers. And remember: 80% of body
heat escapes through the head – so use
a cap or hood.
Third layer for weather protection. The
weather never stays the same for long. Sooner
or later it will try to slow you down – and make
you wish you were somewhere else. Which is
why every professional needs reliable wind
and water protection. Your garment should be
waterproof, yet breathable. Strong and durable.

PUT TO THE TEST.
Cutting-edge workwear requires cutting-edge testing. Snickers Workwear works closely with
accredited test laboratories to ensure our garments meet your expectations. But for us, the
ultimate tests are carried out by our Test Crew – hard-working professionals in four countries who
evaluate the quality, durability, comfort, protection and functionality of our garments, every day
at work. After all, nothing beats reality, and Snickers Workwear is made for real needs.
Tensile Strength Strips of the fabric in both the warp and the weft direction
are then fastened in a machine. The machine rips them apart and
measures the force used in newtons. Snickers Workwear testing is
performed according to the EN ISO 13934-1 international standard.
Tear Strength Tear strength is measured using the same type of machine
as when testing tensile strength. Strips of the fabric in both the warp and
the weft direction are cut in the middle. The force it takes to tear the fabric
apart is measured in newtons. Snickers Workwear uses the EN ISO 13937-2
international standard.
Spray Test Measures water resistance. Water is poured through a funnel
onto the fabric that is fastened in a frame with a sloping angle. The number
of droplets remaining on the fabric at the end of the test is assessed
against an international 1–5 scale, where 5 is best. Snickers Workwear
uses the SS-EN ISO 24920 spray test.
Abrasion Resistance The fabric is abraded against a rough woollen cloth or
glass paper in a Martindale machine. The abrasion stops when two threads
break. Snickers Workwear uses the SS-ISO 12947-2 method, measuring
against a woollen cloth and with a pressure of 12 kPa instead of 9 kPa. For
extra-durable fabrics we use EN 530 with 12 kPa and glass paper.
Water Column Measures how much water pressure a waterproof fabric can
withstand. Water is pressed against the fabric for a specific period of time.
The result is measured in metres. A water column of 6 metres is equivalent
to having 6 metres of water on top of the fabric without it penetrating the
membrane or coating. Snickers Workwear uses the EN 20811/ISO 811
international standard.
Colour Fastness Washed fabric is compared to unwashed fabric and the
colour difference is compared against an international grey scale. Colour
bleeding is measured by washing the fabric together with a multi-fibre strip.
The strip is judged and compared to a standardized 1–5 grey scale, where 5
is best.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT.
Snickers garments meets the EU directive for personal protective equipment (PPE)
and is marked in accordance with the CE marking regulations (EN standards).
EN 340 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Describes general basic requirements for protective clothing such as dimensions and markings. It also describes how ageing,
strength, ergonomics and comparability should be assessed. EN340 cannot be used alone but is instead a basic standard that is
used together with other standards and their specific requirement.
EU DIRECTIVE; PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) DIRECTIVE (89/686 EEC)
Classifies personal protective equipment into categories 0-3 where 0 is no-risk and 3 is high-risk. All the standards listed below
fall into category 2 where accredited laboratories certify the garments.
EN 342 PROTECTION AGAINST COLD
Based not only on material but on the entire garment. The requirements are divided into 4 sections; thermal insulations, air
permeability, resistance to water penetration and water vapour resistance, where the requirements are assessed with the help of
standard conditions such as undergarments and ambient conditions.
Thermal insulation is measured in m2 K/W with underwear type B or type C (specified by the supplier) for ensembles and type R
for single garments.
Air permeability, AP, is classed (in Pa) as follows:
Class 1: 100 < AP
Class 2: 5 < AO ≤ 100
Class 3: AP ≤ 5
Resistance against water vapour is classed in the same way as per EN 343. Thermal insulation is noted at the top in the symbol,
air permeability in the middle and resistance to water penetration is at the bottom at the symbol.
EN 343 PROTECTION AGAINST FOUL WEATHER
This standard encompasses materials and stitching and is divided into two sections: water penetration and resistance to water
vapour.
For water penetration there are 3 classes, where class 2 requires Wp (water pressure) ≥ 8000 Pa and class 3 requires Wp ≥
13000 Pa. Class 1 requires the same as class 2, but without pre-treatment.
For resistance against water vapour, that is to say RET, (the lower the rating the greater the penetration) there are 3 classes;
Class 1: RET ≥ 40
Class 2: 20 > RET ≥ 40
Class 3: RET ≥ 20
Water penetration is noted at the top in the symbol and resistance to water vapour is at the bottom in the symbol, see below.
EN 471 HIGH VISIBILITY WARNING CLOTHES
This standard specifies requirements for clothing capable of signalling the user’s presence visually.
Performance requirements are included for colour and retroreflection as well as for minimum areas and for the disposition of the
materials.
There are 3 different classes and class 3 is the highest class.
Class 3: Total fluorescent area must be at least 0.8 m² and 0.2 m² reflective material.
EN 531 PROTECTION AGAINST HEAT
A standard concerning protective garments for workers exposed to heat, designed to protect workers from brief contact with a
flame and against at least one type of heat: B, C, D or E.
convective, radiant, large projections of molten metal or a combination of these heat hazards.
A. Limited flame spread
The material should meet the requirements of limited flame spread in accordance with EN 532.
To pass the EN 531 requirements the clothing must also protect against at least one form of heat.
B. Convective heat
Heat transported through the garment when exposed to flame. Heat from the flame source can injure the user even if the outer
fabric does not burn. At least level B1 shall be met, which is 3-6 seconds to pain. B5 is the highest level.
C. Radiant heat
Exposure to low radiant heat over a longer period may cause injuries. Therefore, heat flux is measured against radiant heat. C1
indicates that the fabric meets level 1 which is 8-30 seconds to
pain. Level 4 is the highest.
D. Molten aluminium splash
E. Molten iron splash

GETTING IT RIGHT.
When it comes to work wear, the construction of the garment is extremely important. For us at Snickers
Workwear, staying at the forefront of textile development is a top priority. By this we mean identifying the
right material for each product and application. This depends on the profession, the working environment,
the season and the weather the garment will be used in. Other important considerations are of course
demands on durability and washing. And not least of all working comfort.
ABSOLUTE COTTON
Material: 100 % cotton, 390 g/m². Features: A robust 100 % cotton fabric. Snickers Absolute cotton is stronger than ever. Provides the feel-good
comfort, insulation and ventilation of 100 % natural cotton material.
CANVAS+™
Material: 60 % cotton/40 % polyester, 340 g/m². Features: Strong and comfortable. The cotton fabric is reinforced with a small amount of
polyester thread. This enables the comfort of cotton, yet with twice the strength and durability. The feeling of cotton is retained and you enjoy
better washing properties with minimal changes in colour and shape.
COTTON CANVAS
Material: 100 % cotton, 320 g/m². Features: 100 % natural cotton material. The special weaving technique produces a robust, hard-wearing
surface and contributes to the powerful “Canvas-look”. Has equivalent properties to Snickers Absolute Cotton, but the different weave and the
lower weight makes the fabric softer.
DURATWILL™
Material: 52 % cotton/48 % polyamide, 240 g/m². Features: Due to the special weave, most of the cotton faces inward and most of the
polyamide faces outward for maximum comfort and durability. Features a slightly impregnated surface, offering good resistance to moisture, oil
and dirt. Keeps its shape well and is easy to care for.
COOLTWILL™
Material: 65 % polyester/35 % cotton, 195 g/m². Features: Lightweight and strong, perfect to wear in hot temperatures. Combines the comfort
of cotton and the durability of polyester, as Service Line, but with a lighter weight. Withstands the high washing temperatures of industrial
laundries.
SERVICE LINE™
Material: 65 % polyester/35 % cotton, 250 g/m². Features: Lightweight and strong. Combines the comfort of cotton and the durability of
polyester. Garments retain their shape and colour longer. Withstands the high washing temperatures of industrial laundries.
POWER POLYAMIDE
Material: 100 % polyamide 220–240 g/m². Features: Power polyamide made of high tenacity fibres in 100 % polyamide for optimum protection.
The oxford binding gives the fabric a rugged look. The outer surface is treated with a durable water repellent finish in order to repel dirt and water
for long lasting performance. Is either coated or laminated.

material, we use it to reinforce exposed parts on Snickers garments such as pockets, knees and sleeves. It is also water and dirt
repellent, easy to care for and retains its shape.
COOLMAX®
Coolmax® fabrics are designed to move moisture away from the body and enhance fabric drying rate, thus keeping you feeling cool and
dry. Coolmax® moves perspiration, through channels in the fibres structure away from the body to the fabric’s outer surface, where it can
evaporate quickly. The performance of Coolmax® is inherent in the fibres structure itself, thereby providing consistent performance wash
after wash. The soft, lightweight and breathable fabric gives clothes a natural feel with an added touch of performance that keeps them
comfortable and brings cool comfort to everyday apparel.
UV-PROTECTION
Too much direct sunlight can damage the skin. Snickers UV-protected garments has a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) of 40+ or 50+.
