The website, designed in-house in partnership with the Chamber’s member data software company, remains under the domain name www.CherokeeChamber.com. continued inside STAFF Pamela W. Communications Manager Chamber Unveils New Website, continued “The site continues to provide information for businesses, residents and visitors to our community yet with an updated look and user-friendly feel,” remarked Randy Gravley, WLJA 101.1 FM/Enjoy! Cherokee Magazine and 2013 Chamber Chair. The new logo, part of the organization’s rebranding campaign, features the tagline: connecting-creatingcultivating. These three words stress the importance of the organization’s focus on connecting business and community, creating business viability and value, and cultivating member engagement. The former logo and tagline, Where Metro Meets the Mountains, will be retained for use in ongoing tourism promotion. “We are excited about marketing our new logo and tagline which were developed by the Chamber’s creative professional staff,” added Mr. Gravley. “The logo reflects Cherokee County and its communities working together in unison.” New Features of the Website: The New Membership Application easily found on the front page of the Chamber’s site makes it easier than ever for businesses to join the Chamber and pay with credit card. The application works seamlessly with the Chamber’s membership management software allowing for immediate inclusion in the online Business Directory as soon as the membership has been accepted. The members will also be featured in the New Member Feed located throughout the new site. The Business Directory is also more prominently displayed on the new site so visitors will have no problem finding information on Chamber member businesses. The Member’s Only section of the site allows creation of a user name and password so member information can always be up-to-date and invoices can be paid online. Registering for Chamber events will also be easier with an enhanced Events Calendar & a new Featured Event Feed located on the front page and right side bar throughout the site. The event feed instantly displays member events on the site while providing easy-to-use registration and payment processing as well as allowing members to share the event using their social media account. Also new to the site is Website Advertising on both the front page and interiors page of the website, and opportunities for you to include a Testimonial on what the Chamber has done for your business. The winning city for total pounds recycled, as well as the winning city for most pounds collected per capita, were announced during the Chamber’s September Good Morning Cherokee breakfast meeting. The City of Woodstock collected the most recycling which totaled 421,286 pounds followed by the cities of Canton - 225,660 pounds, Holly Springs - 82,301 pounds, Ball Ground - 32,331 pounds, Waleska – 21,335 pounds and Nelson - 4,001 pounds. The combined total collected by all the cities was 786,914 pounds; more than double the amount that was collected during the event last year. We are excited for another wonderful year. Let’s make 2013-2014 one of the best school years this County has ever seen! Schools visited by the “School Supply Express” Being equipped with the correct tools is one of the first steps to success. It seems that every year, more tools are needed to jump start a school year, and it can often be overwhelming for parents and teachers. With this in mind, throughout the month of August, the Chamber’s Education Committee collected school supplies to benefit schools in Cherokee County. With the support of local businesses, what has been dubbed the School Supply Express made September deliveries to forty-four schools in our community. Members of the Chamber’s Education Committee and Chamber staff were pleased to visit local schools with boxes filled with a variety of items including - copy paper, notebook paper, glue sticks, pens, pencils, crayon and much more. Committee member, Bonnie Ellis of Renasant Bank, smiled for a picture with Principal Jennifer Landry and Counselor Brenda Hall while delivering to Mountain Road Elementary School. Canton’s Partners in Education “CARE” Upon the start of the 2013-2014 school year, Canton Elementary School STEM Academy expanded the horizons at their school by creating an onsite Care Closet that provides food items, clothing, and personal toiletry items to families in need. When two of Canton Elementary’s PIE learned of this initiative, they jumped on board to help make a difference. Chick-fil-A Canton Riverstone Parkway designated a day for a free chicken biscuit or sandwich to patrons who visited either of the Canton Chick-fil-A locations and brought in a personal toiletry item. The Rotary Club of Canton coordinated a drive for needed items for the closet. Both PIE collected many items, and there are many families who will benefit from their generosity. Gloria Riley from Publix- Village Shoppes of East Cherokee and Anna Kozloff from Chick-fil-A Dwarf House, greeted parents at the start of school. Every 3rd Thursday of the month is Spirit Day at Chick-fil-A Dwarf House for Johnston ES students. Johnston appreciates their PIE! Toby Bramblett, Associate Executive Director of the Cherokee Outdoor YMCA, greets parent Holli Spell, and student Sorah Emory. These PIE are critical to Johnston’s mission of serving their students. The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts were represented at Johnston’s Meet and Greet to welcome and recruit new members. Pilgrim’s Pride As the new year began this Fall, Canton Elementary School STEM Academy knew that they could count on Pilgrim’s Pride, one of their Partners in Education, to help them in making sure students started with the school supplies that they needed. Each year, Pilgrim’s Pride graciously provide backpacks for each grade level filled with all the supplies requested for that grade level. Students are identified by school teachers, counselors, and administration as to who receives the filled backpack. Being fully prepared to begin their new year makes a world of difference for the students. Canton Elementary would like to thank Pilgrim’s Pride for helping them build... YMCA Staff, Brenda Arambula and Peggy Donaldson help with maintaining that great relationship offering youth sports programs, summer camps and many other vital community services. Woodstock Elementary School receives a warm coffee welcome City of Woodstock officials welcomed Woodstock Elementary School teachers back to work on the first day of pre-planning with a special event at Acru’s Copper Coin Coffee in downtown Woodstock. The teachers were given an “I Love Woodstock” bag and cup along with many local business coupons. Woodstock Mayor Donnie Henriques spoke to the faculty and expressed his desire to continue strong partnerships between the city and the school. Oak Leaf Church, headed by Pastor Will Goodwin, continues to be a valuable Partner in Education with Teasley Middle School (TMS). Two years ago, Pastor Goodwin and his church were instrumental helping TMS kick-off the Black and Blue Basketball game, otherwise known as the Battle of the Boards. The game features Teasley against county rival Freedom Middle School. The Church has been supporting TMS the last two years through assisting with the purchase of black t-shirts for Teasley students to wear at the game. The 3rd annual event will be held at Cherokee HS on November 8th. Oak Leaf Church also provides breakfast for teachers several times a year. At the beginning of the school year, TMS presented Pastor Goodwin and Oak Leaf Church with a plaque in recognition of their service and commitment to the TMS students and staff. LGE Community Credit Union Partners with River Ridge High School LGE Community Credit Union Representative, Katie Wise, was at River Ridge High School on September 9th for Curriculum Night. LGE provided pizza, drinks and car chargers for the staff. They also provided credit union information to parents and students during the event. LGE also provided rally towels for the RRHS vs. Ridgeland HS football game on Friday, September 13th. Chick-fil-A Dwarf House Partners with River Ridge High School Woodstock’s Chick-fil-A Dwarf House, represented below by Anna Kozloff, donated mini cows and food coupons for River Ridge High School’s Random Acts of Kindness Week held September 9th-13th. Students were challenged to give away free Chick-fil-A food and to tell what they would do if given the opportunity to give away 20 free Chick-fil-A sandwiches.
