in radio receiver. Radio Technology SOMFY (RTS) is integrated into

Developing “exclusivity” for dealers in the window treatment industry can
be difficult to achieve. Comfortex BlindCrafters is an exclusive dealer
brand for Comfortex; therefore, a unique sampling was needed to project
this to the end consumer. To better define and further establish the
BlindCrafter brand, Comfortex launched BlindCrafter exclusive sample
books and products in June 2004. BlindCrafter sample books and
BlindCrafter Exclusive Products position Comfortex BlindCrafter Centers as
the premier destination in custom window treatment shopping.
BlindCrafter sample books help create a differentiated store environment.
They feature a unique exterior design while the inside text educates customers on the benefits of shopping at a BlindCrafter Center. The books
also reserve premium space to display BlindCrafter Exclusive Products.
BlindCrafter sample books are currently available in the cellular and
pleated, wood alloy and Roman shade product lines. Sheer vertical, sheer
horizontal and cellular vertical books will be released in 2005.
BlindCrafter Exclusive Products increase the competitive abilities of
BlindCrafter Centers. The following were released in 2004: 18 cellular

SARATOGA SOFT SHUTTER

Plantation shutters are a highly popular window covering option; yet,
many consumers are still seeking the beauty and light control of fabric.
This demand inspired the Comfortex design team to combine beauty and
the softness of fabric with the traditional shape and light control of shutters to create the Comfortex Saratoga Soft Shutter. Comfortex prides itself
in the versatility of the Saratoga Soft Shutter. Clear Mylar louvers are
wrapped in fabric and can be moved in any direction–like a traditional
shutter–through the use of a discreet lever. Room darkening are available
in 2½", 3½" and 4½" louver sizes and with 40 exciting fabric options.
The color of the Saratoga Soft Shutter panel coordinates with the fabric
and resists chipping, scratches and warping.

CREDIT CARD PROGRAM

More than ever before, consumers are relying on financing to help them
make their purchases for their homes. Comfortex teamed up with credit
industry leader General Electric Credit Corporation to launch a private
label consumer finance program: the Comfortex BlindCrafter Credit Card
(CBCC). CBCC is perfect for the independent window fashion retailer
looking to effectively compete against larger national chains and big
stores where financing offers are the norm. The CBCC provides a financing program that is attractive to both BlindCrafter dealers and consumers.
The CBCC provides customers with financing options ranging from 90
days to 24 months with no interest, no payments and same as-cash
options. The card prominently features the BlindCrafters logo in addition
to retailer name. This generates brand awareness and increases customer
loyalty for repeat purchases. Once enrolled in the program, BlindCrafters
receive a transaction terminal, comprehensive training and POP materials
including posters, window clings, counter cards and consumer
brochures–all free of charge. Comfortex further supports these materials
with logos, advertising slicks and web site promotion. An introductory
offer allows BlindCrafters to offer their customers six months of no interest and no payments at zero dealer cost.

SHANGRI-LA® DOOR DESIGN WINDOW SHADINGS

For decades, window fashion professionals have tried to cover side windows and French doors easily. Today’s options are often bulky with cumbersome hardware options. For these similar windows, Comfortex developed Shangri-La DoorDesign Window Shadings. Unlike other window covering styles, the Shangri-La DoorDesign fabric is attached to the window
frame or door with unobtrusive hinges. This allows homeowners to
securely adjust the vanes from open to closed to anywhere in between.
They also enjoy added privacy provided by the Shangri-La fabric while
allowing light to filter through without a large head rail to ruin the view.
The Shangri-La DoorDesign option is available with 2" and 3" vane width

COMFORTEX SELLING SYSTEM

For small independent retailers, space may be at a premium in a showroom or shop-at-home environment. Books and portfolios are often difficult for retail locations to store or for shop-at-home decorators to maneuver into a client’s residence. Selection is then limited and lost sales
become a potential problem. To make it easier for dealers to showcase
Comfortex Window Fashions in either a traditional retail or shop-at-home
setting, Comfortex developed the Comfortex Selling System (CSS). The
CSS features seven major product lines in four sample books: The
Signature Collection of Cellular and Pleated Shades, Sheer Solutions featuring Shangri-La Sheer Horizontals and Stardust Soft Sheer Verticals,
Serenade Roman Shades with Sonata Sunscreens and Woodwinds Wood
Alloy Blinds and Specialty Shapes. The CSS fits into a custom designed
wheeled storage bag for easy transporting to and from home appointments. All four books feature a sleek linear shape, a subtle color palette,

BREAK THROUGH CORD CONNECTOR

When window cords are within reach, young children or a beloved pet
may become entangled and accidentally strangle themselves.
Unfortunately, not all consumers can afford the financial upgrade associated with today’s cordless shade systems. That is why Comfortex developed the Break Through Cord Connector for cellular and pleated shades.
The Comfortex Break Through Cord Connector is designed to come apart
when force is applied from the top should a child or pet become wrapped
in the cord. Two pieces of plastic attach to the cords that hang down
from the head rail. The plastic pieces snap together, with Velcro enhancing the grip. The two cords essentially become one. The user pulls that
combined cord to raise or lower the shade. If even a slight amount of
weight is applied inside the loop above the cord connector, the device
breaks apart and opens the loop. A choking tragedy is averted! The Break
Through Cord Connector meets all American National Standards Institute
(ANSI) and Window Covering Manufacturers Association (WCMA) safety
standards. The Break Through Cord Connector is used on all Comfortex
Cellular Shades with Universal Hardware.

ULTIMATE WINDOW SHADE MAKEOVER

To increase national brand awareness of the Comfortex BlindCrafter Dealer Network,
Comfortex developed an exclusive nationwide promotional event: the Ultimate
Window Shade Makeover (UWSM). The program generated consumer interest by
capitalizing on the current national craze of home makeover themes. The promotion
was a great success for participating BlindCrafter dealers. The UWSM resulted in
the following statistics: 2,500 news story placements, 58 million consumer impressions, 1,000 leads sent to Comfortex BlindCrafter dealers, sales/profit gains for
47% of participating dealers. BlindCrafters were supplied with a turnkey implementation package, which included merchandising, advertising and training materials.
Store merchandising materials included a ballot box, banners, posters, static cling
window decals, balloons and “Ask Me About” stickers. Advertising materials included radio commericals, television commercials, direct mail pieces, advertising slicks,
flyers and consumer informational brochures. In addition, store personnel were provided with a comprehensive “Success Guide” detailing the step-by-step implementation of the Makeover promotion. All materials prominently featured the Ultimate
Window Shade Makeover logo materials and graphics designed to capture attention
and generate excitement. Corporately funded national shelter magazine advertising
and web advertising supported the promotion.

The Waverly Tailored Roman Shade is a revolutionary, attractive way to
decorate windows using a ready-made alternative to a once custom
only product. Each has a valance detail at the top that can be embellished with trim. There are six widths available to fit a variety of windows starting at 23" wide and up to 35" wide. The beauty of this product is that the hardware to mount the shade is sold separately from the
shade itself. This allows the consumer to install the hardware one time
but change the shade as often as she likes for a different look. The
shade attaches to the hardware with a heavy-duty Velcro adhesive
making it easy to remove and install. Dry-cleaning is recommended and
the cord is easily removable because it is attached with hooks to the
bottom rings on the back of the shade.

they have an appointment with the Design Center to select window coverings. This time frame varies from a few weeks to a few months and provides a rare opportunity to educate the homebuyer on what options they

homebuyer saves time. The Windows of Opportunity kit itself gives an
overview of the process and the options. Brochures with tips on Moving

differences determine the price of the product? The Hunter Douglas
answer was to help consumers understand what the key differences are
in shutters so that they can each become a savvy consumer and make an
educated buying decision. The “How to Be Shutter Savvy” brochure is an
educational piece that guides the consumer through the seven key areas
they should evaluate when considering a purchase of interior shutters. It
helps shutter shoppers by providing them with a list of the questions they
should ask when making their selection as well as a checklist of benefits
to evaluate the shutter and the company they are buying from. Since it
was completed in May 2004 and made available to consumers, for free,
by calling the 800 number, more than 16,000 brochures have been distributed. Newspapers across 27 states have recognized the value of the
information presented in this piece and 496 newspaper articles have
appeared as a result for a total of more than 62 million consumer impressions. Not only has this tool been beneficial for consumers, but it has
been eye opening for window covering dealers who have also been struggling with understanding the value of all the new products entering the
shutter market today.

The ability to deliver custom Heritance hardwood shutters in a three-week
time period, or better, represented an excellent opportunity to promote the
exceptional service Hunter Douglas offers its dealers and enhance their
shutter sales during the last quarter of 2004 when other shutter manufacturers see their lead times becoming stretched out. This promotion
rewarded dealers for promoting our three-week lead time advantage with
advertising support dollars based on their sales during the 10-week promotion period. This supplemental advertising support was a win/win for
dealers and Hunter Douglas as it helped the dealer realize the advantage
this benefit represented; built their shutter business and helped build
greater brand awareness for Heritance due to the focus on advertising
Heritance. To make the program practical for dealers, each dealer was
supplied with a series of print and color ads for their use and received an
advertising certificate in a certain dollar amount based on their sales.
Hunter Douglas had an outstanding 57% participation rate in this
Heritance dealer promotion and dealers earned significant supplemental
advertising support as a result of the promotion.

that could be redeemed only by the featured dealer. Over 2.7 million
magalogs were mailed on behalf of 1750 participating dealers.

French doors often feature lever-type handles that typically interfere with
standard shutter panel installation by protruding into the opening. Hunter
Douglas has developed a French door cut-out that provides dealers and
installers with a simple and innovative option when tackling this challenge. Firmly attached to the door to prevent rattle and swing, the
Heritance hardwood shutter French door cut-out provides an attractive
contoured cut-out that highlights and complements the customer’s door
hardware. The arc of the cut-out is always centered on the handle for a
balanced and pleasing design. This cut-out accommodates both 2.5" and
3.5" louver clearance. A practical sales tool provides dealers with a way
to show customers what this feature will look like and helps check for

Announcing the most versatile and innovative Silhouette window shadings
ever: Top-Down/Bottom-Up TiltAnywhere, where the shadings can be
operated from the top-down, the bottom-up or both ways at the same
time. There are no cords to detract from the view when the shading is

The upscale display was designed to showcase and reinforce the exclusivity, luxury and superior quality of The Alustra Collection. The display’s
high-quality materials–maple wood, aluminum and frosted acrylic panels–complement the collection. In addition to the products, the display
provides space for sample books and brochures. Available as an island
unit that can be displayed along a wall, it features four display modules
and six products. Other advantages include its small footprint–57" by 52"
(20 sq. ft.). In addition, backlit modules, large 28" by 32" outside mounted product samples that are protected with acrylic side panels, frosted
window panes behind the products, ID plaques, easy mounting board
system, graphic panel illustrating full line. Also important, it ships complete and is easy to set-up.
