January is gone and February begins, hopefully with warmer weather and thoughts of spring. As you look around our beautiful community, you may notice all the decorations from the holidays are long gone and stored away for another year. I want to thank the ROTC, Flerchinger Electric, Rotary, Avista Utilities, Tourism Committee, Committee Chair, Jim Dilling of Best Western Rivertree Inn, (he also moonlights at Mac’s Cycle) and many others for donating their time. Last year we housed 313 women, men and children in our homeless shelter and our domestic violence shelter. Therefore, we want to serve 313 bowls of soup to you, your family and friends to help support our shelters. 400 bowls have been made for the event. 200 of them were purchased from North Pole Ceramics and have been handpainted by local artists, our board members and staff. Wendt Pottery crafted the remaining 200 bowls. The kids of Northwest Children’s Home also create and donate bowls for this event. Thomas has been chosen to receive the Council for Advancement and Support of Education District VIII’s Distinguished Leadership Award for 2007, CASE officials have announced. Thomas will receive the award during the Gala Dinner at the District VIII conference, which will be held Feb. 21-24 in Boise. CASE is the professional organization for advancement professionals at all levels who work in alumni relations, communications, and development. Thomas was one of 14 nominations reviewed by the CASE District VIII executive committee for the annual award. District VIII includes the eight western Canadian providences and territories along with Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. FEBRUARY 2007 CLARKSTON CHAMBER CONNECTION February 21 through February 24 The University of Idaho takes great pride in its 40-year tradition of hosting the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival. Each year in February, thousands of college, high school, junior high and elementary school students travel from all over the United States and Canada to the University of Idaho campus and meet some of the worlds greatest jazz performers. It is truly a jazz music pilgrimage. The students present both vocal and instrumental adjudicated performances, and attend concerts and workshops given by the jazz artists. That’s right, corporate passes are back. They have made it easier for companies, large and small, and their employees to take full advantage of this great community asset. The new corporate membership rates and guidelines are as follows: Employees of organizations registered with us for corporate discounts and their legal dependants are eligible for an all-access natatorium and waterpark pass at the rate of $125.00 per individual. • There is no minimum employee number requirement. • All pass holders can receive a 10% off regular daily admission price for their guests. Special events not included. Pass holder must attend. • Corporate passes are ineligible for resident of pass sale discounts. • Corporate passes shall be pro-rated quarterly. • Employees must purchase pass to make dependants pass eligible. P U 3 F R 5 ¦S News From the Natural Resources Committee Because of a conflict with other meetings our regular meeting days have been changed to the third Tuesday of each month we will still meet at Hazel’s on Bridge Street in Clarkston and the time will remain the same at 7 a.m. In an attempt to keep the Chamber Membership better informed starting with this printing we will insert a different Chamber position on natural resource issues each month some of what you see will reflect past positions but because they are ongoing and not resolved they are still in effect, such as dam removal or breaching and dredging.
