2016/17 PRESENTING SERIES | LAURA OSNES Laura Osnes A MODERN DAY (BROADWAY) CINDERELLA Laura Osnes isn’t your typical Broadway star— though Broadway star she is. Laura, throughout red carpets, TV hosting gigs, Tony nominations and bright spotlights, remains as sweet, humble and genuine in every way as before her meteoric rise. After being a regional success in the Minneapolis area, Laura competed in the 2007 NBC reality show “Grease: You’re The One That I Want!” and won the role of Sandy in a new Broadway revival of the musical. And that was just the beginning! Nearly a decade after her onscreen and onstage victory, Laura Osnes, who grew up in Eagan, MN, outside St. Paul, is being called the next Julie Andrews. That comparison was bolstered by her strong, likable portrayal of Maria in a recent concert production of The Sound of Music. Laura arrived in New York in the summer of ’07 to make her Broadway debut, only a couple of weeks after she and Nathan Johnson, also a talented actor, had married. Interesting note: her husband, Nathan, starred in the Arts Center’s production of South Pacific in the winter of 2008, right after Laura’s TV win. He is now one of NYC’s hottest photographers at the helm of Drift Studio NYC, whose studio has hosted shoots for Harper’s Bazaar, Esquire, GQ, Vogue, Glamour, W Magazine, Broadway Style Guide and more! The catapult to stardom continued when Laura was cast in Lincoln Center Theater’s revival of South Pacific in 2009 (what a coincidence that this show connected both the couple and the Arts Center), first as Kelli O’Hara’s maternity-leave fill-in and later as her replacement. After that, she starred as Hope Harcourt in the Tony-winning revival of Anything Goes. Next, Laura starred as the leading lady of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. This was the role’s Broadway debut, making her the original Broadway Cinderella. Laura has earned Tony Award nominations, Broadway. com and Audience Choice Awards for both title characters in Bonnie and Clyde (2011) and Cinderella. "SHE SINGS HER HEART OUT— AND MELTS YOURS." -New York Daily News The one-night only performance at the Arts Center, Monday, October 17 at 8 pm, is filled with hits from the starring roles Laura has played as well as many other well-loved tunes, promising to be an enchanted night with Broadway’s favorite Princess. Tickets are $46 and may be purchased by calling the Box Office at (843) 842-ARTS (2787) or visiting online at artshhi.com. Catch Laura on The Great White Way again as she stars in the 2017 Broadway production of Bandstand. OnCenter | Page 12 Fall 2016
