Wayne Godwin, who serves as the coordinator for LBWCC ‘s American Heart Association Community Training Center, recently completed intensive training on two adult and one infant SimMan 3G simulators for student training in health science programs. These simulators have enabled LBWCC to expand its training capabilities for healthcare providers by practicing all areas of patient care. The simulators mimic human medical conditions through changeable bowel, heart and lung sounds. They can be programmed to have seizure activity and pupils that dilate and constrict. They also have bleeding wound capacity and recognize medication injections, making adjustments according to an action taken. The adult simulators can speak pre-programmed phrases or can be directed in speech from an instructor. Previously Brabham served as associate director for Business and Education Services in the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development. In his continuing effort to focus state programs and resources on job creation, Governor Robert Bentley has announced that the Alabama Community College System’s Office of Workforce Development will now carry the designation of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development. Governor Bentley’s declaration recognizes the importance of workforce training and the positive work being performed through the Alabama Workforce Training Council. The Governor’s Office of Workforce Development will continue to prioritize workforce training needs through ten locally driven workforce councils. Training efforts within the ten regional councils connect with the state’s Economic Development Alliance Plan through a comprehensive Alabama Workforce Training System. The training needs for business and industry in Alabama are vast. The Governor’s Office of Workforce Development will be a primary conduit for meeting local training needs and development of the pipeline of workers through the Alabama Community College System. Over the past 4 years, over 400 local workforce development projects have been awarded in the amount of nearly $60 million, touching the lives of more than 200,000 by meeting the training needs of industry and individuals in communities all over the state of Alabama. Continued work to prepare and retrain workers will be the commitment of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development.
