Known as the “art and soul of Columbus”, the
culturally rich Short North is pioneering the urban

The Short North Arts District Gallery Hop occurs 1st Saturday of each month,
thousands of visitors converge on the strip to see new art exhibits and experience the
Short North ambience at its best. With dozens of galleries and non-traditional exhibit
spaces, it’s Columbus’ favorite night of the month. Most shops open earlier than the
official Gallery Hop start time of 4pm running up through 10pm with restaurants and

GETTING AROUND
GALLERY HOP
Gallery Hop is a 27 year tradition and occurs every first Saturday of each month. Thousands of
visitors converge on the strip to see new art exhibits and add to their growing collections. Gallery
Hop officially starts at 4PM and runs to 10PM with restaurants and bars staying open considerably
later. On a typical Hop, over 40 galleries and non-traditional art venues (think restaurants,
boutiques, and salons) spotlight the best of established and emerging Ohio-based artists. They also
feature the works of nationally and internationally acclaimed artists. To see the feature exhibits

On the streets... performers settle into the many nooks of the District to entertain the throngs of
Short North fans. Saxophonists, singers, improvisational dance troupes, even stilt walkers and stage
characters add to the unforgettable experience. You will also find vendors selling their hand-crafted
one-of-a-kind items along High Street from Goodale Street to 5th Ave.

Whether you’re coming for the monthly blast that is the Gallery Hop, for a day of shopping or just
for cocktails and dinner, we’ll help you navigate the parking scene like a pro. Some areas of the
Short North require residential parking permits. Make sure you look for signs designating these

spot other works of art along your way as well. The Short North is home to a variety of outdoor art including the murals, sculpture,

1. Cliff Dwellers Mural - by Curtis Goldstein and Michelle Attias
641 N High St. - between Russell & Poplar Ave. Salutes the art of
Columbus-native, George Bellows by depicting his famous
‘Cliff Dwellers’ painting.
3. Mona Lisa - by Brian Clemons
742 N Pearl St. - Pearl Alley @ Lincoln St - In the Short North,
sacred is passé, and art gets turned on its ear evident with
this depiction of Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
2. Train Murals - 620 N High St. - parking lot beside Utrecht.
100-foot-long train on north wall and depiction of original Union Station.

5. Cafe Terrace at Night
by Dwaine MacDonald, Susan O’Dell and Patrick Corbett
782 N High St. This mural is now somewhat obscured by Union’s
outdoor terrace, but it makes a great backdrop to sit and have a
drink. Mural spans 2 walls for a 3D effect & depicts Van Gogh’s
‘Cafe Terrace at Night’.
While in the Short North, you’ll notice the 17 signature arches
spanning the district’s mile-long core. Installed in 2002, the
arches echo their 1888 predecessors and a time when
Columbus was heralded as the “City of Arches.”
