Travel on an emotional and historical journey into the mystery and allure of the railroad and the people who built it. Children of all ages enjoy the “touchable” museum experience in the Depot Attic. See the 1929 Art Deco lobby and get information at the Visitor Center. Visit the Cheyenne Depot Gift Shop for unique gifts and railroad memorabilia. No visit to Cheyenne is complete until you’ve seen our extensive Native American and Cowboy collections! Some of the finest examples of Indian beadwork, basketry, pottery, quilled items and jewelry are on display. The exhibits also feature the US Cavalry, the leatherwork of F.A. Meanea and the silver artistry of Edward H. Ten galleries tell the story of Wyoming’s past from prehistory to the present. Bring your kids to the HandsOn-History room and visit the Museum Store. The cornerstone of the Wyoming State Capitol was laid in Cheyenne on May 18, 1887. The Dome of the capitol is real gold leaf. The 24-carat gold leaf dome is visible from all roads entering the city. Senior, youth and handicapped volunteers maintain beautiful and tranquil gardens. Explore the solar heated conservatory exhibiting tropical plants, and stroll the exquisite nine acres of exterior grounds featuring twenty-five specialty gardens. Wyoming’s only public botanic garden! Includes the Paul Smith Children’s Village, which provides a place for families to learn, grow and play – featuring exhibits on sustainability. Marvel at one of the nation’s largest collections of historic horsedrawn vehicles, experience the region’s most celebrated western art exhibitions and trace the history of Cheyenne Frontier Days from its beginnings in 1897 to what we know today as The Daddy of ‘em All®. The Colonial Revival mansion, built in 1904, has been the setting for state dinners, first-family christenings, wedding receptions and birthday parties. Included in the Mansion tour are videos with electronic touch-screens providing information about the former Governors, First Ladies, Mansion architecture and more. Self-guided tours and group guided tours available. The museum, in the historic headquarters’ building, depicts the rich heritage from 1867 to present including the development of the Air Force Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles systems. With over 200 historic structures listed on the National Register, the mission of F.E. Trolley Tours (May - September) The Trolley offers fully-narrated historic city tours that capture the lively character of days gone by. Weekday tours includes stops at museums numbered 1 to 7 in this passport. Weekend tours do not include all of the stops. Trolley riders may purchase a regular trolley ticket or a Trolley Plus Pass which, in addition to the trolley ride, includes discounted admission to the Cheyenne Depot Museum, Nelson Museum of the West, and Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum. Trolley tickets may be purchased at the Visitors Center in the lobby of the Historic Cheyenne Depot in downtown Cheyenne (121 W. 15th Street). The Trolley is also available for private charters.
