Installation Guidelines
It is recommended that only qualified
and experienced sign installers be
engaged for the installation of Access
sign products.
Tactile Signs
Current ADA Guidelines require that all
tactile (raised) wall mounted signs must
measure at least 48” from the finished
floor to the bottom of the lowest tactile
character and 60” maximum from the
finished floor to the bottom of the
highest tactile character. Signs that are
provided at a door must be hung on
the latch side. The distance from the
jamb should allow 18 square inches of
clear floor space (centered on the tactile
characters) beyond the arc of the door
open at 45º.
All visual (non-raised) wall mounted signs
must be hung at 40” minimum and 70”
maximum from the finished floor to the
bottom of the visual character. Most
Access signs are designed to have an
unobstructed horizontal viewing distance
of less than 72”. Signs with larger
characters are designed to have a longer
horizontal viewing distance. Ceiling
Mounted and Projecting visual signs
are to be hung at least 80” minimum
and 120” maximum from the finished
floor to the bottom of the sign. Most
Access signs are designed to have an
unobstructed horizontal viewing distance
of less than 21’.

The sign installer shall be responsible
for complying with all other regulations,
including life safety and fire codes and
local building standards.
Access Interior Sign System products
do not include mounting hardware. The
sign installer shall be responsible for
furnishing the appropriate mounting
hardware to ensure that all products are
securely and permanently attached to
the mounting surfaces. Some of our wall
mounted products are equipped with
double sided tape for installation. To
ensure permanent installation on various
wall surfaces, in addition to double sided
tape, it is recommended that nickel sized
amounts of silicone adhesive caulk be
applied to the back of the sign (away
from the tape and edges). The sign
installer is responsible for safely installing
all products plumb and level.
