This Leaders Guide has been compiled to help you, as the unit popcorn chairman,
coordinate the Camp Master Popcorn Sale.
Dates, responsibilities and contacts are included for reference, as well as other
information for use in your unit.
There are several exciting changes that promise to make this popcorn sale the best
ever!

Fund Adventure and Fuel Your Program with Popcorn!
Dear Popcorn “Kernels,”
Thank you for taking a leading role in being a popcorn kernel for your unit, your district, and the Buckskin Council!
I hope you take pride in leading your Pack, Troop, or Crew to a very successful Popcorn Sale Campaign for 2015!
Remember-- a successful popcorn sale means being able to fund your Scouting programs for the upcoming year.
Parents won’t have to open their wallets, and you’ll have a year full of exciting adventures!
It is very important that you keep regular contact with The Counil to let them know where you are with your
unit’s weekly progress!
The 600 Club returns this year.
All popcorn money should be collected at the time a scout takes an order! Your unit will earn a bonus by paying
for your popcorn as you pick it up.
Please keep in mind that your unit earns 31% of your popcorn sales. You can earn an extra 2% by doing the
following:



Attend the popcorn kick-off for your district
Turn in your budget and calendars by October 1. They can email them to [email protected] (These
should be ready prior to your kick-off). Please note that the deadline for the budget for the 2015 sale will
be your district’s popcorn kickoff in August.
Pay for the popcorn at Popcorn Pick Up on November 20 & 21. Payments can also be made earlier at the
council office.
The key to success is as easy as 1-2-3
1. Plan your program for the year by developing a calendar and budget to incorporate an exciting Scouting
program that you want to offer to your Scouts. Apply some math, and this will be your Popcorn Sales
Goal.
2. Share your Scouting vision and budget with the parents, youth and leaders of your pack, troop or crew.
Recruit them to help make this a reality by getting on board and financing their Scouting Program with
Popcorn Sales! Families can invest time in this sale, and earn their own money for their Scouting events!
3. Sell popcorn and promote the Scouting program and make Success happen!
So, jump on board with the Popcorn Sale—your steps to success are outlined in this Popcorn Success Sale Guide.
Sign up early, attend your District’s Popcorn Kick-off, get your calendars, budgets, popcorn orders and payment in
on time and have a Super Successful Popcorn Sale.

Funding the Ideal Scouting Year: Project Popcorn
2015
What kind of adventures do you want to have this year? Where do
you want to be? What do you want to do?
With the right amount of planning and a lot of enthusiasm, you can have a terrific Scouting
year without having to ask parents to pay! Find out what your Scouts want to do this year,
if they didn’t have to pay- i.e. free trip to summer camp, Cub Scout day camp, the West
Virginia Power Scout campout, the Harlem Globetrotters night, a Webelos Weekend,
Whitewater Rafting, or any other exciting activities!
Take these steps every year to Fund a Successful Scouting Pack,
Troop or Crew:
1. Popcorn Kernel attends District Popcorn Kickoff Training!
2. Plan a program calendar of activities and budget, and share it with Parents
and Scouts (see following pages)
3. Complete the Calendar & Budget goal worksheet to determine what your unit
needs to sell to cover your budget! (Share with Parents and Scouts, to build
understanding and enthusiasm!)
4. Explain to parents that for each Scout who sells a target amount, certain
things will be covered in the Pack’s or Troop’s budget. You could find certain
things for everyone (West Virginia Power campout) and fund other things for
boys who sell a certain amount (Summer Camp, whitewater rafting). Boys
could also have their own funds tagged with their name in the Troop’s or
Pack’s account, so that a family gets the direct benefit of their time
investment.
5. Parents and Scouts – who now understand the great benefits to their family—
go sell popcorn to Fuel their Scouting adventures!

Each Scout's goal must be $937 in order for everything to be FREE for the year.
If you set your Pack's goal at an arbitrary number like "$500" or "$250," less than
60% of the cost will be paid for. This means you'll have to do more fundraisers,
or parents will have to pay out of their pockets... so not all your boys will get to
camp, they'll drop out, and they'll miss all the future-building benefits of Scouting.
SOOOOO... make a detailed budget for your Pack, promote the ACTUAL sales
goal, and have the BEST YEAR OF SCOUTING for your whole Pack!

Throw a PARTY !
When your Pack reaches its sales goal, be sure to CELEBRATE with
your Scouts! When boys reach your budgeted, calculated sales goal,
recognize them! Use Pack incentive plans like special events, gift
cards, or scout gear as rewards and incentives, too!
Earn GIFT CERTIFICATES !

Prizes will be ordered by the unit on the Internet at www.campmasters.org.

Fill up all 30 lines on the order form with popcorn orders to get a special patch!
Your prize order must be submitted with your popcorn order on November 6. Note: in
2015 this deadline will be NOON!
Absolutely no prize orders can be processed after December 2. We apologize for the
inconvenience, but the tracking & eligibility system only operates within a certain
window.

JOIN THE $600 CLUB AND WIN BIG!!
Each Cub Scout who sells $600 or more of Popcorn will earn a powerful Zing
Fireteck Rockets! Each Boy Scout/Venturer who sells $600 or more of Popcorn will
earn a Multi-tool knife! These prizes will be provided at the end of the sale.
Limit: One per youth.
Scouts who join the $600 club will also be invited to a special PARTY in their District!

Remember that $600 may not be the full amount your Scouts
need to fund their excellent year of fun and adventure!
Having this incentive, though, helps get more boys to sell
more popcorn, which helps them and their families spend less
money out-of-pocket.

ATTEND YOUR DISTRICT POPCORN KICKOFF
August 2015
Hold your own Pack/Troop/Crew Popcorn Kick-off Party
As close as possible to the start of the sale, have all of your scouts come together with your
leaders for your own popcorn kick-off. Have fun and motivate the kids to earn their way
to a great program year!.
September 4, 2015
This is the official start of the sale. REMINDER: ALL MONIES ARE TO BE COLLECTED
AT THE TIME ALL ORDERS ARE PLACED!!
September 4 – October 31, 2015
Sales period
Please remind your Scouts to collect money when they take an order for Popcorn.
Have each scout select a prize to strive to achieve! This will help him sell more, thus
earning more for his Scouting activities!
Week of November 1-5, 2015
Collect Take Order Forms from Scouts
Make copies of individual order forms for your records and turn into Council Office at
end of sale. This is critical because you have taken the customer’s money in advance, so
popcorn must be delivered, even if the boy who took the order quit your Pack or Troop!
November 6, 2015
Submit Popcorn Order and Prize Order online or turn in copies of all Order
Forms and Unit Order and Settlement Form to Scout Service Center. Turn in
prize order forms, plus names of all Scouts who have sold $600 or more of
popcorn. In 2015, this deadline will be noon.
November 20 and 21, 2015
Popcorn Pickup Day/Distribute to Scouts and Customers
Contact your district popcorn chair or your district executive to schedule a time to pick up
your order. Your unit’s complete payment must be turned in at the
Popcorn Pickup site. Please make arrangements with your Unit
Treasurer to pay for the Popcorn on or before the Pickup Date.
If your Pack, Troop or Crew will have difficulty in meeting any of the
above deadlines, please let your District Popcorn Kernel and
District Executive know as soon as possible.

Pick-up Location & Details
Information to Help Plan for Popcorn Pick Up Day
Before you can deliver your Popcorn, you’ve got to pick it up. At the warehouse we can
accommodate all types of vehicles including trucks. In fact, we encourage units with large
orders (anything over 100 cases) to rent or borrow trucks to pick up the popcorn. Many of
the rental agencies extend discounts to Scout groups. Please make sure you have enough
vehicles to handle your order. Deduct 4-5 cases from the numbers shown for each
passenger (child, dog, etc.) that comes with a driver. The warehouse is busy and
potentially dangerous. Please try to avoid bringing young children and pets if at all
possible. The process of picking up popcorn will be as quick and painless as possible. If
your unit will be moving product with several vehicles make sure the other drivers know
the name and number of your unit to prevent confusion. We always appreciate your
patience.

Elk River and Pioneer Districts: Tyler Mountain Water Company, 159 Harris Street, Poca,
WV 25159 – Rock Branch Industrial Park.
Hwy 64 to Nitro Exit 45, Turn toward Poca on Route 25, continue toward Poca onto Route
62, turn Left at first stop light into the Rock Branch Industrial Park, Turn Left on Harris
St, turn left into Tyler Mountain Water Company and proceed to back of building.

REMEMBER TO SCHEDULE A PICK UP TIME WITH YOUR DISTRICT POPCORN
KERNEL
Your popcorn must be picked up at the designated time that you scheduled. When
you arrive at your pick-up location, be sure to sign in.
All paperwork necessary for picking up your popcorn will be provided by the council
staff when you arrive. Please be sure to bring payment for your order with you
to the pickup location.
When loading your product please double check your product order with the
individual helping you load the popcorn and sign the council copy.
You will pick up your popcorn along with other units/groups. Bring some other
adults with you to assist in loading your order. The loading location will not have
people to help you.

Once you
inventory your
unit’s product at the loading location and sign the invoice, you will be able to load
your product into your vehicle(s). In order to be good stewards of the community’s
donations to Scouting, we need to be sure that everything is counted when it
changes hands, so that there are not incidents of “missing” product.
