“OSLO’S BEST MUSEUM”
Go on board and explore one of Norway’s definitive national
treasures – the polar expedition ship Fram!
This world famous sailing ship was built in 1892 by Fridtjof
Nansen – Norway’s greatest national hero. In addition, you
can’t fail to be impressed by our account of the first fabled and
dramatic journey through the Northwest Passage aboard Roald
Amundsen’s small but sturdy Gjøa.

Through original film footage , unique photographs and a
fascinating exhibition with information in 10 languages, the Fram
Museum tells the stor y of how men of steel and ships of wood
explored and charted the most dangerous and desolate regions
of the world – the North and South Poles. Many expeditions
went disastrously wrong – a few succeeded. See unique artefacts
and realistic models from histor y’s most important polar
expeditions.
In a spectacular film in super wide format you see vivid images
of Fram and its crew in the freezing antarctic wasteland, the
dogs they took with them and the penguins they met.
Enjoy our hands-on activity centre and chilling polar simulator
– and experience our incredible prize-winning northern lights
experience , shown ever y 20 minutes!
Café and a museum shop with a broad selection of gifts and
souvenirs.

Enjoy delicious food at an array of
restaurants and food halls. Oslo has it
all: exciting street food and world
class gourmet restaurants.

Around 5,000 concerts are held in the city each
year. Oslo is a true festival city, with
everything from music festivals, to food
and children’s events. With a top skiing
facility at Holmenkollen it’s not surprising
that so many sporting events are held
in Oslo. 2016 will see both the X-Games
and the Biathlon World Cup coming
to town.

Oslo is Europe’s fastest growing capital city with a population
of about 648.000. The last few years have seen Oslo change
considerably with new landmarks and a unique skyline of
high-rise buildings which have both changed and added to the
existing neighbourhoods. Oslo has become a new hub for
contemporary architecture, a place where historical landmarks
and modern projects sit side by side. The opening in 2015 of
the nine kilometre sea promenade has opened the city up to
the fjord, its beautiful islands and beaches.

Oslo is Europe’s
quickest growing
capital city.
The population has
increased by 30%
since the year
2000.
WELCOME TO OSLO
The city is located at the innermost point of the
Oslo fjord. A green and modern city with a
population of 648,000. Oslo’s history goes back
1000 years, but it only became the capital city
of Norway after the constitution was drafted
in 1814.

Alpine skiing and snowboard
The Oslo Winter Park is located just
north of the city centre. A large ski
resort with 18 slopes and 11 lifts open
from December to Easter. The Oslo
Winter Park offers rental of skis,
snowboards and relevant equipment.
Skiing courses and private lessons
can be booked at the Oslo Winter
Park ski school.
WINTER ACTIVITIES
If you’re visiting Oslo in the winter why not
combine skiing and skating with shopping,
food and culture.
Skating
The ice rinks in Oslo are open throughout the winter. The Spikersuppa ice
rink is located in the city centre, whilst
a larger rink is located in the Frogner
stadium, Majorstua. Rental of skates
available at both venues.
Tobogganing
Korketrekkeren is Oslo’s largest and
most popular toboggan run – 2 kilometres long with a 255 meter descent.
Toboggans can be rented at Skiservice
at the top of the run. You can catch
the T-bane from the bottom of the
run all the way back to the top.
Cross Country Skiing
There’s over 2,700 kilometres of
prepped runs in the woods surrounding
Oslo, with a vast array of alternatives
for both beginners and experienced
skiers. The closest runs are 20 minutes
from Oslo city centre. Skis and equipment can be rented at the Oslo Winter
Park. Both the Skiforeningen and
Skiglede offer courses and private
lessons.

quality at the Norwegian Opera
and Ballet in Bjørvika. The
Dansens Hus at Vulkan offers a
varied program with emphasis
on contemporary dance.
Theatre and shows
The three big theatrical institutions
of Nationaltheatret, Oslo Nye
Teater and Det Norske Teatret
have ten separate stages in Oslo
city centre, which enrich the city
with their assortment of theatre
shows on offer. The smaller stages
outside of the centre tend to play
more experimental compositions.
If you prefer musicals and
stand-up, Folketeatret and Latter
at Aker Brygge have big
performances on all year round.
