Years in Business
February 2nd marked the 20th anniversary of our Mequon Store
and the 6th anniversary of our Brookfield Store.
How lucky am I to do something I’ve absolutely loved for over 2 decades?
How can I thank you? I know! How about everybody gets a shopping spree?

ABOUT
Cover your knees!
or
I’ve been in business 20 years. That means 20 spring seasons. And every spring, I get
nervous. Sure, there will be beautiful clothes. And, our younger Faye’s customers will be
resplendent. Because, you can always count on spring and summer fashions to be short and
tight and sheer. But, will my customers over 40 find things that make them happy? Not just
“something to wear.” But, things to update their wardrobe that really make them feel good
about themselves?
I’m breathing a little easier this spring. Silhouettes are loosening...waistlines are higher...
hemlines are lower. And, the directions are quite diverse. You can be sexy or urban or
channel your Inner Cowgirl. Dress for a trip down the Amazon or a ride into Outer Space.
Maybe you’re feeling nostalgic for the ‘60s...or bewitched by the bohemian allure of
Marianne Faithful? YSL’s ‘70s influence is good for another go round.
Take stock of your personal style. What trend(s) are you most drawn to? Come in. Let’s talk
about how you can incorporate the season into your wardrobe.
• BRAZILIAN BEAT: Candy colors and all manners of gold on tanned skin.
Sizzling sexy style. This is the glamorous, glitzy girl from Ipanema.
She’s a Lady
•
Power of femininity. Explores both ends of the spectrum:
pure innocence and confident sexuality.
COUNTRY ROADS
•
American frontier spirit; pioneer romance. Visions of conch belts, plenty of fringe, and cowboy boots.
• OUTER GALAXY Fashion continues to move faster than the speed of light. Juxtapose the latest techno fabrics (nylon, plastic, rayon, viscose, vinyl) and the rawness of the planet’s natural materials (agates, wood, stone).
• JUNGLE PATROL “Go green” in color and eco fashion. Military/uniform inspired fashion. Camouflage still important.
• HIPPIE LUXE Epitomized by Bianca Jagger in her day. Crochet dresses;
round sunglasses; lean flares.
2
Within all of these general trends, there are some unifying concepts. Listen carefully,
please. We all need to get past the idea that clothes need to be close to our bodies in order to
show our shapes or even “give us a shape.” Silhouettes are easing up. That ease can be an
exaggerated neckline that slips off a shoulder or a dolman sleeve that adds considerable
volume to a top. If you are slender, these clothes are flattering in a suggestive way. If your
shape is curvy, the beauty comes in the drape of the garment on your body. Clothes skim this
season rather than hug. They’re evocative rather than literal. This season is about strength,
glamour and control for real women.
Doesn’t it feel like the world speeds up more each and every day? With social media, we have
real time access to virtually anything and everything. In the fashion world, for example, we
take an internet front seat at major fashion shows that were previously reserved for the
fashion cognoscenti. Increasingly, fashion demands sophistication and an attitude. I know you.
You have both.
Spring 2011. Don’t be nervous. I’m not.

Women’s Wear Daily publishes the Top Ten Spring Colors as designated by the Pantone
Matching System®. Pantone is the industry standard used by designers in the apparel,
home furnishings and interior design fields for selecting and specifying color. Leatrice
Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said this season’s inspiration
was global. “...everything is a little more exotic. It really has to do with everything that
is happening in the world. There is still a lot of concern about the economy and life in
general.” Hmmmmm...this color business is serious stuff!
HONEYSUCKLE PINK “In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits.
Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going – perfect to
ward off the blues,” explains Leatrice. “Honeysuckle derives its positive qualities from a
3
powerful bond to its mother color red, the most physical, viscerally alive hue in the
spectrum.” So, there you have it!
Regatta Blue As a cooling tone, regatta has a calming effect.
Deconstructing The Looks or
The right accessory makes it a trend
Coral Rose This is a bright and eye-opening orange.
Jewelry:
BEESWAX YELLOW Think honey – this is not acidic.
f
PEAPOD GREEN “Green plays to 2 things – new beginning and a sign of
spring,” Eiseman said.
BLUE CURACAO It’s a next-door neighbor to turquoise.
RUSSET Brown but with a slightly peachy tone.
SILVER PEONY Ethereal and peachy. Has a romantic quality.
LAVENDER A continuation of the fascination with purple the last couple of seasons.
Silver Cloud Quintessential classic neutral. Designers understand that
if consumers are going to buy a bigger ticket item, it’s probably going to be in a
basic color or a neutral.
Navy is a spring perennial. Beginning w/fall 2010, pairing navy with black was
touted as sophisticated and classic. Believe it! Wear it!
One of the easiest ways to freshen and stretch your wardrobe is to try different color
combinations. Just for a minute, pretend your khaki pants are black. Pair them with
everything you would wear with black. Pale pink or SILVER PEONY are unexpected
and beautiful with khaki. The true sophistication for spring 2011 for my money
is the pale neutral palettes: beeswax...silver peony...silver cloud. And, there is no
denying the importance and power of white in summer.
Novelty patterns ranging from camouflage motifs to graphic florals to ethnic
patterns like the Ikat to retro polka dots can add fun and trend to your wardrobe.
The ‘70s revival in fashion tempts you to drop a little acid – an orange, green,
coral, or pink neon scarf or accessory go a long way to update last year’s closet.
Shine and shimmer continue. (Our favorite LOVE QUOTES Italian linen scarves have
added just a touch of Lurex – I love how my new pink one lights up my face!)

Shoes:
There’s so much
talk about the
resurgence of The
Comfy Shoe! Really?
Well, the pendulum
always does swing. In
the past few seasons, heels
have gone to sculptural and sometimes
ankle-breaking heights. For spring, shoes
have come back down to earth, ranging
from sensible sandals to Geisha platforms
(if you need that vertical boost) to kitten
heels. Actually, the lower heel does go handin-hand with the increasing popularity of
falling hemlines.
And, since we’re talking comfort, I’m not
sure anything beats our Melissa Plastic
Dreams! Remember jellies? Of course you
do. The Melissas are out of Portugal and
all the rage in Europe.
Customers usually squeal
with delight when
they see the styles
and colors but then
quickly ask, “But,
won’t my feet
sweat?” Actually,
no. This state-of-the-art
plastic has been woven in
a way so that the shoe
breathes. I took a pair
on vacation and
wore them to the
beach like flip flops
and out to dinner
as the World’s
Cutest Sandal.
Trust me on this!
The TOMS phenom
continues: the simple
canvas slip-on that appeals to everyone,
regardless of age or style preference.
Halters are always a good warm weather
look. Too bare? Tunics are still the rage, and
many can be found with long sleeves. Look
for a sheer tunic...wear over a cami or tank,
and you get a feminine, summery trend!
Tops:
Denim shirts are back, thrilling both the
COUNTRY ROAD and HIPPIE LUXE girls.
I’ve already encouraged you to try and
get more comfortable with volume – loose
tees; loose knit sweaters especially crochet;
easy pullovers; long cardigans; exaggerated
armholes; dolman sleeves; etc.
6
STRIPES are a huge trend, especially in tops.
Miuccia Prada featured striped tees with
wide leg jeans in her collection. She says,
“I’ve grown tired of all the minimalism in
fashion...now I’m interested in exaggerated
simplicity.” So, I guess in Miuccia’s world
a “stripe” has been elevated to an
“exaggerated simplicity.” And you thought it
was just a t-shirt. HA!
The other important jacket style is the safari
jacket. Don’t relegate it to your casual
wardrobe: wear it like a blazer.
Bottoms:
But, seriously, while we’re on the subject
of “just a t-shirt,” please pay attention to
the luxe fabrics of many of our “simple”
tees from the likes of Splendid, Kain, Haute
Hippie, etc. Buy with caution ‘cuz one of
these basic wardrobe staples may turn you
into a Fabric Snob. Many designers promote
the everyday personal pleasure of wearing
something that feels luxurious while doing
ordinary things. Once you’ve experienced
this concept, there’s no going back. It’s the
reason featherweight cashmere has become
one of our best sellers YEAR ROUND: feels
great whether I’m grocery shopping or out
to dinner.
One of the trends I’m happiest about is the
emergence of long skirts! Long patio dresses
have been on trend for awhile, but the
flexibility of a long skirt is appealing. Both midi
(mid calf) and maxi (to the ankle) are touted.
And, again, this is a trend that appeals to all
age groups and for a variety of reasons. A long
skirt can sinuously skim a slender derriere and
long legs or cover up some serious varicose
veins. What’s not to love?
Slim cargo pants are a great alternative to
jeans. And, cargos are not just for casual
anymore! Designers like Peace of Cloth, Elliott
Lauren, A Woman, etc. are constructing them
out of fabrics suitable for career wear.
And, if you’re the Leader Of Your Fashion Pack,
you’ve got a pair of harem pants, right?
Speaking of denim, a closely cropped
denim jacket definitely has a place in your
wardrobe. And when you see the variety of
washes and weights of denim, one jacket
might not suffice. You’ll throw this jacket(s)
over EVERYTHING!
The denim scene reports legs getting wider
and waistlines getting higher. Trouser cut and
flare jeans are the most fashion forward. Other
directions in denim include coated finishes. You’ve probably read about the increasing
7
cotton prices? This is predicted to have a huge impact on the denim market. So, designers
and manufacturers are looking to introduce new blends of cotton and other fibers like
TENCEL, micro Modal, and rayon.
It’s interesting to note that 2-3 years ago, the amount of stretch in jeans was 2%. With the
advent of jeggings and the popularity of stretch jeans, currently the average amount of
stretch is 35%!
But, the question we get asked most frequently? “What about skinny jeans? Are they
still going to be in next year?” It looks to be SKINNY FOREVER! Rare is the new look that
successfully crosses over from trend to new classic. Skinny jeans (and skinny pants for that
matter) have become a classic in our wardrobes. It’s a bit like animal prints – fashion comes
and goes, but they remain. EVOLUTION, NOT REVOLUTION
or
Ease Into The Season
Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Federal Reserve, said, “A recession is a terrible thing
to waste.” I couldn’t agree more. We all learned a lot of valuable lessons – one
of which was to stretch our wardrobes. I preach often about buying trans seasonal
fabrics. And thinking about how you can transition your wardrobe from one season
to the next. So, head for your closet and consider:
z It’s not too early for your sleeveless dresses, blouses and tanks. Simply throw a jacket or cardigan over.
z Another alternative to ease into sleeveless is to layer a long sleeve tissue weight tee under.
z Not ready to bare your legs? Switch from tights to leggings and a flat
(no socks!).
z Simply switching from boots to flats takes any ensemble from winter to spring.
z Accessorize with a lightweight, colorful scarf rather than the chunky cashmere ones that have been keeping you warm.
z Notice the cuffed jeans in all the mags? Rather than tucking your jeans into boots, cuff them and slip into that new spring shoe you couldn’t resist.
z Ditch your heavy winter handbag in favor of a Longchamp PLIAGE or MZ Wallace nylon and leather combination bag. Amazing how it lightens your load!
z Shorts with tights are a great look for the young fashionista.

WWD: You don’t have a cell phone, or a BlackBerry or a computer.
F.L. When I’m in the street, I’m experiencing the street, and I’m the only one. I have
it all to myself. I notice things, and other people do not notice them, so I feel like
I won. They’re on the phone, they’re on the BlackBerry. The point of living in the
city, one of the things I love about urban life, is the street...All these people on the
BlackBerrys are not that important. Because if they were, they wouldn’t be in the
street. They’d be in a helicopter.
