FOODS TO EAT IN MALACCA
Here are some of the suggested local delicacies that are highly recommended for you to try.
While there are many other tasty ones, these are among the best that can be found in Malacca
town.
RICE BALL
Rice balls are now usually served with a plate of steamed chicken. Various restaurants offer different types of rice to make the rice balls, it could be mixed up with
other foods such as yam. It is easier to eat and the most popular chicken rice ball
you want to try is Chung Wah restaurant, located at Jalan Hang Jebat, Melaka. You
can easily notice the long queue from this restaurant and stretched to Hard Rock
Café Melaka.
CENDOL
This is a traditional dessert made with shaved ice, coconut milk, green starch
noodles with pandan flavouring, palm sugar, red beans, glutinous rice, grass jelly
and creamed corn. Every spoonful leaves behind a lasting sweetness and a creamy
aftertaste from the fresh coconut milk. Jonker Dessert 88 serves one of the best
cendol in town.
NYONYA LAKSA
The aroma of this super tempting laksa is strong, rich and well flavoured from the
spices and chillies. The taste of this specialty noodles just melts in your mouth and
immediately takes you to heaven. The best places to taste this flavoursome noodles
are at Nancy’s Kitchen, Reverine Coffeehouse and Calanthe Art Café.
ASAM PEDAS FISH
A specialty dish from Malacca, the main ingredients of this dish is fish/seafood,
ladyfinger, eggplant, long green bean and tomato. Cooked in tamarind juice with
chilli and different spice and it is the signature dish of the state. The very hot and
mild sour fish curry makes it appetizing to eat with rice. The best asam pedas is
served at Kota Laksamana Restaurant, which is also called asam pedas claypot.

SATAY CELUP
This is a dish where it is a mixture of raw and semi-cooked seafood, meat (including raw meat) and vegetables on skewers and it will be dipped into hot boiling pot
of satay gravy. At Capital Satay, you can get the best Satay Celup. Do not be discouraged by the long queue or the old restaurant. Otherwise you can opt to go to
McQuek’s Satay Celup.
NYONYA KUIH
Nyonya Kuih are bite-size dessert that are colourful and popularly taken as a snack.
Some are steamed, grilled but mostly are sweet. Among the favourites includes Ondeh ondeh, Lapis Pandan, Bingka Ubi, Talam, Sri muka, Lapis BEras and many other
interesting and tasty ones. You might like to try these sweet desserts at Nancy’s
Kitchen and for takeaway; you can get some at Baba Charlie Nyonya Cakes.
KLEBANG COCONUT MILKSHAKE
This is popular spot among the locals here, where you can order the milkshake with
ice-cream. It’s a mixture of coconut water, flesh, ice cube and vanilla ice cream. The
natural sweet and creamy aftertaste with smothhie-like texture is refreshing taste is
remarkably good.
FRIED OYSTERS
It’s also called fried oyster omelette. The oysters are fresh and you might like to give
it a try, it’s delicious. Head over to Bunga Raya Food Court and most Melaka food
courts sell this dish.
POPIAH
At Nancy’s Kitchen, they make a Fujian/Chaozhou-style fresh spring roll. The egg
wrap is generously filled with ingredients, sweet sauce and piquant chilli sauce.
Moist and the chilli sauce give it the extra kick in the taste.

SAMBAL DELICACIES
Sambal is a condiment that includes a chilli based sauce. Usually made from variety
of chilli peppers shrimp paste or fish sauce, garlic, ginger, shallots, sugar, lime juice
and rice vinegar, it is occasionally a substitute for fresh chillies and it can be very
spicy. The variety of sambal dishes are Sambal Sotong (squid), sambal kangkung
(water spinach), sambal ikan bilis (anchovies) and sambal ayam (chicken).

THINGS TO DO IN MALACCA
This is our compilation of the local historical must-visit places in Malacca town, where it is rich in
culture and heritage dating back to how the straits of Malacca was a midway that linked China to
India and was perfectly positioned as a centre for maritime trade. It was already famous during
the colonial times and today tourists from all over the world visit here for the rich cultural heritage that the city offers.
A’FAMOSA FORT
A’Famosa is Malacca’s best known sightseeing spot and the remains of the fort is
now a disintegration whitewashed gatehouse and is located downhill from St Paul’s
Church. This is one of the oldest surviving European architectural remains in Asia, it
is set beside the Malacca Sultanate Palace
JONKER STREET (NIGHT MARKET)
Tourists and locals alike find this place their favourite night market to visit during
the weekend in Malacca with abundant of street vendors selling all kinds of things
from your typical souvenirs, to clothes, and you can even find the local delights
here and enjoy the snacks or drinks. Jonker Street is located at Jalan Hang Jebat, a
short 15 minutes walking distance from Dataran Pahlawan Megamall.
THE STADTHUYS, CHRIST CHURCH, RED SQUARE AND
QUEEN VICTORIA’S FOUNTAIN
These four attractions are located close to one another. The oldest Dutch colonial
building in South East Asia, Stadthuys is also known as the Museum of History and
Ethnogrpahy. It is an old styled Dutch red exterior building that houses traditional
costumes, handicraft and souvenir shops so you might like to do some shopping
here.
Christ Church Malacca is the most photographed landmark for the town of Malacca
but despite of this, it is forbidden to take pictures inside. The brick used to build this
church were specially shipped in from Holland and if you find trishaw riders around
here, they are ready to take you on a quick stroll around the city, with some charges
of course.
Red Square, or also popularly known as the Dutch Square replicates the history of
Malacca from Dutch colonization till today. Be sure to photograph all the spectacular sights, colours, buildings, people, market stalls and multi-coloured trishaw when
you are here.

QUEEN VICTORIA’S FOUNTAIN
Queen Victoria’s Fountain is situated in the middle of Dutch Square where it was
built by the people here in memory of Queen Victoria Regina. It is well preserved
and also provides a good photo opportunity especially for the tourists.
TAMING SARI REVOLVING TOWER
Enjoy the splendid 360-degree views of the historic city and the coastlines in one
of Malacca’s notable landmarks. This is definitely a good way to enjoy the view of
Malacca from a different perspective, as it is the first and only gyro tower in Malaysia
so far. It is just a mere 3 minutes walk from Dataran Pahlawan Megamall.
ISLAMIC, UMNO AND STAMP MUSEUMS
Along Jalan Kota, there are a few museums where you might like to visit and if you
are interested to go in and learn more about the formation of UMNO, how Islam
came to the Straits of Malacca or if you are an avid stamp collector, then the Stamp
Museum is a great place to visit.
MALACCA SULTANATE PALACE
This is a wooden replica of Sultan Mansur Shah’s 15th-century palace that is set at
the base of St. Paul’s Hill where was carefully built entirely without nails and supported with carved, wooden pillars and featured copper and zinc roof. It is the most
elaborated royal place ever constructed back then around the 1450s and today it
is also known as the Cultural Museum which houses 1,350 artefacts, prints, photographs and drawings detailing the Malaccan Malay Sultanate’s history and cultural
heritage.
This three-storey building is separated into eight chambers where you can find
galleries depicting famous legends through dioramas, including the eminent clash
between the legendary Malaccan warriors Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat.

MALACCA RIVER CRUISE
Another great way to explore the city, is the river cruise where it operates daily until
late in the evening. The best time to do the cruise is around sunset so if you are
interested to just sit back and enjoy the calm, scenic river cruise, spend time here
with your family and friends.
CHENG HO’S CULTURAL MUSEUM
Cheng Ho’s Cultural Museum is believed to be restructured ancient building with
Ming architecture, with two to three hundred years of history. This museum showcase many evidence of cultural exchange between the local ethnic and the Chinese,
among them which includes treasure ships, tea houses and other navigation instruments that is worth a visit for its historical site. It is believed to be the original site of
the warehouse complex built by Chen Ho himself who visited Malacca several times
en route to the Western Oceans.
BABA & NYONYA HERITAGE MUSEUM
The Peranakan Culture is an important part in the history of Malaca and this Baba
& Nyonya Heritage Museum is also World UNESCO Site, where it greets you on a
journey into the late 19th century and early 20th century of the then Malaya. Up till
today, the museum is still managed by the family, preserving this house as a place
for visitors to honour the Peranakan spirit, keeping it alive for future generations.
FLORA DE LA MAR MARITIME MUSEUM
This is a reproduction of the Portuguese ship which sank in the coast of Malacca on
its way to Portugal. It houses numerous exhibits of articles such as porcelain, silk,
textile and spices used by the seamen of the yesteryears. If you love to know and
learn more about ships, there a collection of different ship models that are on display at the museum and you can find out more about the types of ships and their
functions.

GETTING THERE
There are various way you can travel to Freeport A’famosa Outlet Village using own vehicle or by
the public transportations available in the city from Kuala Lumpur and Malacca.
Freeport A’famosa is located inside A’famosa Resort Malacca.
BY YOUR OWN VEHICLE/CAR
FROM KUALA LUMPUR
From the Sungai Besi Toll Plaza, Kuala Lumpur, head east toward the North South Highway/E2 (Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan),
there will be a toll here.
Continue on the highway to Alor Gajah Interchange (Lebuh AMJ/Route19) in Kampung Taboh, Alor Gajah. Take the exit on
227-Simpang Ampat on the North South Highway/AH2/E2, and your toll charges will be paid here.
Continue into Jalan Kemus/Sempang Ampat/M10 to arrive at Freeport A’Famosa Outlet Village located inside A’Famosa
Resort, Malacca.
FROM MALACCA
Form Bandar Hilir, Malacca, drive on Lorong Bukit Cina and Jalan Temenngong to Jalan Munshi Abdullah/Route 5 in Kampung Banda Kaba. At the roundabout, please take the first exit on to Kalan Munshi Abdullah/Route 5.
From Lebuh Ayer Keroh/Route 143, please take the North South Highway/AH2/E2 (Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan) in Durian Tunggal, there will be a toll here.
Continue on the highway to exit at Alor Gajah and you can pay your toll charges at this exit. Drive into Jalan Kemus/Sempang Ampat/M10 to arrive at Freeport A’Famosa Outlet Village, located inside A’Famosa Resort, Malacca.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATIONS
DAILY COACH FROM SINGAPORE, KL, KLIA/KLIA2 & MALACCA SENTRAL
There is a daily coach for a return trip from Kuala Lumpur to A’Famosa Resort, Malacca and the same for Singapore to
A’Famosa Resort, a service run by Nice and Nice Imperial for luxury and executive coach. Various time schedule and pickup
points are available.
For a return trip from Malacca Sentral or KLIA/KLIA2 to A’Famosa Resort is also available where the pickup point at A’Famosa
Resort is at Main Clubhouse.

FROM PUTRAJAYA SENTRAL
BY BUS AND TRAINS TRANSITS
From Putrajaya Sentral, you can walk to the ERL Train Station service run by Express Rail Link and take the KLIA transit train
to Bandar Tasik Selatan.
At Bandar Tasik Selatan you have to walk towards Bandar Tasik Selatan Commuter (Komuter Bandar Tasik Selatan). Take
the train service run by KTMB towards Sungai Gadut and stop at Kajang.
At Kajang, take the KTM train service run by KTMB towards JB Sentral and stop at Pulau Sebang/Tampin.
From here, you would need a taxi to get to Freeport A’Famosa Resort located inside A’Famosa Resort, Malacca.
FROM MALACCA TOWN
BUS TRANSITS AND TAXI
From Bandar Hilir, Malacca, you can walk to Melaka Medical Centre, Malacca where there is a non-stop bus service run by
Transnational towards KLIA 2.
When you arrive at KLIA2, make your way to another transit bus service run by CityLiner and stop at Seremban Bus Terminal
One at Jalan Sungai Ujong.
From Seremban Bus Terminal One, take a bus transit (number 25) towards Tampin and make your way to stop at Asrama
Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tunku Temenggung in Seremban.
From here, you would need a taxi to get to Freeport A’Famosa Resort located inside A’Famosa Resort, Malacca.
BY TAXI
FROM KUALA LUMPUR
You may want to take a taxi from Putrajaya Sentral or Kuala Lumpur Sentral and at the taxi counter, request them to take
you to Freeport A’Famosa Resort, located inside the A’Famosa Resort, Malacca. The taxi will be waiting for you just by the
entrance/exit door and show your paid tickets to the driver and sit back while he takes you on your journey to Freeport A’famosa Outlet Village.
FROM MALACCA
You may want to take a taxi from Malacca Sentral and at the taxi stand, request them to take you to Freeport A’Famosa
Resort, located inside the A’Famosa Resort, Malacca. Sit back while the taxi driver takes you on your journey to Freeport
A’famosa Outlet Village.
