Overall Disease reports to Coldwater Creek Survey MODE OF TRANSPORT • Creek rerouted over years to accommodate population growth • Flooding and tributary backups common occurrence • Potentially accounts for disease spread beyond creek borders MODE OF TRANSPORT • Contamination spread by dust particles • Open storage containers • Haul Routes • Documented spills over the years SUMMARY • Disease/ Illness appears to be spread throughout North County, and not limited to the creek • MO DHSS reported higher than average cancers in watershed zip codes in 2014 • Majority of illness reported to health survey corresponds to disease caused by LATENT CHRONIC LOW level ionizing radiation exposure • • • • • Primary Cancers Autoimmune Disease Premature Dental Decay Infertility/ Reproductive Issues Genetic Mutations/ Non-hereditary Cancers in Children • Survey diseases do NOT match health effects of alternate creek contamination, including e-coli, Agent Orange, airplane fuel, etc. GOALS • Continued testing and remediation of effected areas • Education for healthcare providers and the St. Louis region that current and former residents of the North County are an at risk population • Downwinders Status • Federal Program for Manhattan Project Communities – RECA • • • • Provides restitution to residents that have been harmed Provided Education to effected communities Screening Clinics Grants for Community
