HISTORY OF THE GREATER CHARLOTTE HOT STOVE LEAGUE DINNER AWARDS
The baseball term “hot stove” is affiliated with the time of year when those associated with America’s past
time, whether it is players, managers, front office personnel or fans, discuss the summer game during the
winter months. Even before the Boston Red Sox traded Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in 1920, folks
sat around the hot stove to debate and discuss the significance of their team’s transactions. Even though
air conditioning and furnaces have replaced the iron stove as sources of heat, the term hot stove is still
quite common in baseball vernacular. A place it is used frequently is to reference baseball banquets that
take place during the off-season. The banquets are held to celebrate the game of baseball and to reward
those in the game that contribute to its success.
The growth of the event has been truly amazing. In just five short years the Greater Charlotte Hot Stove
League Dinner has grown from 180 guests in 2008 to over 650 in 2012.

Greater Charlotte Hot Stove League Award Criteria
The Greater Charlotte Hot Stove League Award finalists and winners are chosen by a selection committee
of 11 members. Committee members represent each area of the Greater Charlotte community. Voters
include; coaches, umpires, observers, media members and others that have a vast history and knowledge
of both baseball and softball in the area.
The Greater Charlotte Hot Stove League places athletics, academics and character as very important
components in the selection process. We strongly believe 100% in the Student-Athlete concept and the
building of well-balanced student-athletes.
Each finalist recognized tonight should be considered as a winner. They have risen to the top of their
chosen sport and displayed the work ethic needed to become the very best they can possibly be. Many
will go on to college and professional playing careers while others will become the leaders of tomorrow
with outstanding academic resumes. With the leadership many have shown to date in the classroom and
on the field, we have no doubt that these same student-athletes will help to make our community and
world a better place.
Yes, one winner will be called on stage for each award, but it is very important to remember that all
finalists are winners. We salute each and every finalist and their families for a job well done.

YOUTH SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Casey Bigham, Marvin Ridge Middle School
Casey Bigham began playing softball at age 11, following 5 years of baseball at Matthews Athletic &
Recreation Association (MARA). Upon moving to softball, Casey played for Alexander Fastpitch for two
years, where they won the 2010 NSA State Championship, IFA Spring State Championship and the AAU
Summer World Series Championship. Casey played catcher on her middle school softball team at Marvin
Ridge Middle in 7th and 8th grade. As a 7th grader, she led her team in batting average with a .576
average and in stolen bases and RBI’s. In 8th grade, Casey batted .460 and led the team in RBIs and
extra-base hits. She finished her middle school career with only 2 strikeouts in 122 at bats. Casey played
travel softball for the Queen City Hornets in 2012 where the team posted a 49-9 record. Casey batted
.354 with 9 strikeouts in 169 plate appearances. In the fall of 2012, the Hornets converted to the North
Carolina Lady Blues. Casey batted .543 and had only 2 strikeouts in 51 plate appearances. Casey is a
two- time participant in the Battle of the Border All Star Showcase, winning the MVP award in 2011. In
addition to softball, Casey is a member of the Marvin Ridge High School Varsity Basketball team and she is
an honor roll student. Casey is the daughter of Bryan and Donna Bigham.
Carrie Eberle, Charlotte Catholic High School
Carrie has been playing softball since she was six years old. Though she plays other sports, she plays
softball almost year round between school and travel. She is a top-level pitcher and plays 1st base and
the outfield as well. Last year as an 8th grader, Carrie led Holy Trinity Middle School to an undefeated
championship season, batting an astounding .779 with 22 extra base hits in 45 at bats. On the mound,

she was a perfect 9-0, did not allow an earned run, and struck out 94 batters in 49 innings. She was
awarded the Principal’s Award and Best Female Athlete Award at Holy Trinity in 2011-2012. In travel
softball, she plays for the Lady Blues at the 14U and 16U levels against some of the best teams in the
Southeast. Carrie continued to have a successful season at the plate batting .403, with 5 more HRs and a
slugging percentage of .590. As a pitcher, she regularly faced the toughest teams and posted a winning
record of 34-5 with 5 saves, an ERA of 1.72, and recorded 181 strikeouts. Combined for the year, Carrie
batted .480 with 11 HRs and recorded a pitching record of 43-5 with an ERA of 1.39 and 275 Ks in 258
innings. In addition to Carrie’s softball success, she is a straight A student with a 4.14 GPA (out of 4.0).
This year she is a starter on Charlotte Catholic’s Varsity Basketball and JV Volleyball teams. Carrie is the
daughter of T.J. and Missie Eberle.
Rachel Marion, Northwestern High School
Rachel is a freshman at Northwestern High School, where she has been the Lady Trojan’s starting Varsity
catcher since 7th grade. As a seventh grader, Rachel was selected as Offensive Most Valuable Player for
her bat. She also received the Region III All-Region Award. As an 8th grader, Rachel was selected as
Defensive Most Valuable Player for her work behind the plate. She only had 8 passed balls and 8 bases
stolen on her, in the 149 innings she caught. Rachel finished this past season with a .384 batting average,
22 runs batted in and only 1 strikeout in 92 plate appearances. Rachel also plays Showcase Fastpitch
Softball, as the starting catcher, for the Carolina Sharks. She has also participated in the Battle of the
Border All-Star Showcase Games. Rachel is an excellent student with a 4.67 gpa. She is also involved in
the Junior Civitans Program and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Rachel is the daughter of Brian and
Melissa Marion.
Dharma Rosbrugh, Marvin Ridge High School
Dharma began playing softball when she was 8 years old. She played 2007-2011 with The Charlotte Blaze,
2011-2012, with The Queen City Hornets, and 2012 to present with The Lady Blues 16U. In the 20112012 travel season from the mound Dharma pitched in 28 games with a combined 2.10 era, 113 strike
outs, registering 11 shut-outs and record of 23-5. At the plate she had a .462 batting average, .551
OBP%, .561 SLG%, with 67 RBI’s, 6 home runs, with a team record of 63-12-1. When she is not on the
mound you will find her either at shortstop, 1st base, or playing the outfield. Dharma played for the Mint
Hill Miners middle school softball team in both her 7th and 8th grade years leading her team from the
mound to a 10-2 season in her 7th grade season, and a 12-0 record in her 8th grade season. In addition to
her accomplishments on the field she excelled in the classroom as well, carrying an “A” average and
receiving the “Student Athlete of the Year Award” in her 8th grade year at MHMS. Dharma is currently a
freshman at Marvin Ridge High School, where she carries a 4.0 GPA and is a starter for the Girls Varsity
Basketball team. Dharma is the daughter of Carlos and Tonyia Rosbrugh
Meghan Whitecavage, Hopewell High School
Meghan has been playing softball since the age of 7. She began playing year round travel ball at the age
of 9 and is currently playing with the Queen City Spirit Red. During her middle school seasons Meghan
was the starting catcher at Bradley Middle School. In the 7th grade she was awarded the Rookie of the
Year award and in the 8th grade she earned the MVP award. In the 2012 spring/summer and fall season
she finished the year hitting .468 with a .681 slugging % and led the team with 23 doubles, 4 homeruns
and 51 RBIs. Nineteen of the season’s games were played at the high school level. She had a .750
caught stealing by catcher average. Meghan has also participated in the Battle of the Border All Star
Showcase Games. Meghan off the field enjoys working with special needs students at Hopewell High
School where she is currently a freshman. While playing softball and volunteering she is able to maintain
a 4.25 GPA in her honor classes. Meghan is the daughter of Albert and Patty Whitecavage.

Tristan Broome, Nation Ford High School
Tristan was a two year starter for the Southwest Middle School team. As an 8th grader, Tristan batted
3rd in the lineup, logged many innings at 3rd base, and played all three outfield positions. He was chosen
to participate in the Battle of the Border All Star Showcase Games following the season. Tristan
graduated Southwest as a three year Honor Roll student. After school ball was over, Tristan spent the
Spring Travel season playing for the 2016 East Coast Swingmen Black. With this team he participated in
tournaments throughout the Southeast which featured top level competition. In the Fall, Tristan moved to
the Southern Express 15U team who went 18-2, including a championship in a Super NIT tournament in
Lexington, SC. In the Super NIT championship game, Tristan started the offensive fireworks for his team
by hitting a home run in the 1st inning. He finished the Fall season with 5 HR, a.465 batting average and
a slugging percentage of .825. Tristan played both corner infield positions and all three outfield positions.
He is currently enrolled at Nation Ford High School in honors classes and is competing for a spot on the
varsity team. Tristan is the son of Mike and Chrystal Broome.
Nick Bruno, Charlotte Catholic High School
In middle school baseball, Nick captained his South Charlotte Middle School Chargers to consecutive
conference championships in 2011 & 2012. His team went 27-3 over a 2 year period. Nick went 6-0 on
the mound while hitting over .550 and leading the team in home runs for the last 2 years. Last summer,
Nick played ‘up’ an age group for the 2015 East Coast Prospects going 5-1 on the mound (throwing a nohitter last summer) and playing 1st base. This summer Nick will be playing first base and pitcher for the
South Charlotte Panthers 2016 team. Nick has played in the last two Battle of the Border All Star
Showcase games and was a member of the 2010 Mid Atlantic NTIS team. As a 9th grader at Charlotte
Catholic, Nick played varsity football in several games during the Cougars state championship run. In
addition, Nick started at defensive tackle for the undefeated JV team going 10-0. This is Nick’s second
year being named as a finalist for the Greater Charlotte Hot Stove League Youth Player of the Year Award.
Nick is the son of Paul & Lisa Bruno.
Aaron Pilkington, Marvin Ridge High School
Aaron was a three year middle school varsity starter at Marvin Ridge Middle School. He led his team to
three league titles and two tournament championships. In his eighth grade season, Aaron posted a .628
batting average, .704 on base percentage with 6 HR’s. In a game versus East Union, Aaron was 4-4 with
4 homeruns, and 10 RBI’s. On the mound Aaron had a 6-0 record while throwing 30.1 innings with 47
strikeouts and a 0.46 ERA. Aaron played for the SBA Canes Black team the last three years and currently
plays for the South Charlotte Panthers. Over this time period, Aaron has participated in the Battle of the
Border All Star Showcase, USA NTIS Stars Team, and was named MVP at a Cal Ripken Tournament, Triple
Crown Summer Nationals and was placed on the WWBA 14U All-Tournament Team. Aaron was the
starting varsity quarterback as a freshman. He is the son of Rich Pilkington and Stephenie Tocado.
AJ Ray, Charlotte Catholic High School
AJ was a two year starter at Holy Trinity Middle School. This past year AJ led his team to a record of 11-3
and the regular season. On the mound, AJ posted a 5-1 record with 39 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched
while giving up a total of 9 runs on the year for a 1.61 ERA. In the regular season matchup against
Charlotte Latin, AJ struck out 13 batters over 5 innings. When not pitching, AJ typically plays centerfield
while batting leadoff. At the plate this past season, AJ batted .541 with an OBP of .682. AJ holds nearly
all of Holy Trinity’s pitching records along with many batting records for both an individual season as well
as for a career. He will be playing baseball this year for Charlotte Catholic High School. AJ was a
member of the 13U Team Mid-Atlantic which participated in Cary for a spot on Team USA and has played
in the Battle of the Border All Star Showcase Games the past two seasons. AJ will be playing
showcase/travel ball this year with the nationally recognized South Charlotte Panthers. AJ is the son of
Myron and Kristine Ray.

This year we have three finalists that are siblings of former Hot Stove League Dinner Award Finalists.
Tyler Jensen (Scholar-Athlete Finalist) is the brother of Alex Jensen (2011 Player of the Year Finalist.)
Aaron Pilkington (Youth Player of the Year Finalist) is the brother of Tyler Pilkington (2008 Player of the
Year Finalist.) Bailey Ober (Player of the Year Finalist) is the brother of Drew Ober (2012 Youth Player of

Jimmy Cochran, Hough High School
Coach Cochran is entering his third season as Head Coach at Hough High School, after serving as the
Head Coach at Parkwood High School from 2007-2010. During the first two seasons at Hough, Cochran
has compiled a 33-27 record. The third year program is coming off of a NC 4A Western Regional
Championship, an I-Meck Conference Tournament Championship and a 4A State Championship runner up
finish. The Huskies won nine straight games before losing two in the championship series to finish the
season at 23-12. Cochran’s 2012 team saw five players go on to compete at the college level. Cochran
was named as Coach of the Year by multiple publications. He is married to his wife, Blythe, and they
have one son, JD.
Chris Matile, East Lincoln High School
Coach Chris Matile is entering his 8th season as Head Varsity baseball coach at East Lincoln High School.
In that time, he has compiled an overall record of 127-57, 72-22 in conference play. He has led the
Mustangs to the state playoffs the last six seasons, posting a 9-7 record, and in 2011 he led the Mustangs
to their first ever Western Regional Runner-up finish. In 2012, East Lincoln posted a 22-5 record, going
14-0 in the conference for their first undefeated season since 1976. They won the conference
championship, conference tournament and he guided his Mustangs to the third round of the state
playoffs. Since taking over at East Lincoln, Coach Matile has had 30 all-conference players, 6 all-state
players, 4 conference players of the year, and 17 of his players have gone on to compete at the college
level. Chris is married to his wife Brenda. They have a daughter Abby who is 8 years old, and 2 boys,
Evan who is 6 and Tanner who is 3.
Travis Poole, Weddington High School
Coach Poole is entering his 17th season as a Head Varsity baseball coach. During his tenure, he has
compiled an overall record of 316 wins and 132 losses. He has coached at Parkwood High, JM Robinson
High, and is currently the head coach at Weddington High School. During his 16 year span, he has been
named conference coach of the year seven times and won seven conference titles. In 2012, his team
posted a 28-6 record on its way to winning Weddington High School’s first State Baseball Championship.
Coach Poole has had 19 players to continue their baseball careers at the college level and one that is
currently in Triple A with the Texas Rangers.
Greg Simmons, Charlotte Christian School
Greg enters his 23rd year at Charlotte Christian and his 21st as the Knights head coach. During his 20
seasons at the helm he has compiled a record of 481-196-1. In 2012 Coach Simmons led the Knights to
their 11th NCISAA State Title and his tenth as the head coach. The Knights finished the year 32-6. Coach
Simmons has 14 CISAA conference titles and has been NCISAA state runner up twice. In 2009 Coach
Simmons was named NCSAA National High School Coach of the Year. During his 20 years he has had the
honor of watching 59 of his players have the opportunity to play at the college level and six at the
professional level. In addition to his work at Charlotte Christian Coach Simmons has served as State
Games coach, USA Baseball NTI coach and he coaches summer ball in the SBA Canes organization. Greg
is married to his wife Renee' and they have three sons, Tyler, Matt and Hank.

Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers Manager Grady Little appeared at the inaugural Greater
Charlotte Hot Stove League Dinner. Past featured guests have included UNC Chapel Hill Head Baseball
Coach Mike Fox, Former MLB All-Star Pitcher Bryan Harvey, St Louis Cardinals AA Baseball Coach Mike
Shildt and college softball coach Charlie Dobbins. Many current and former Major League Players have
appeared at the Hot Stove Dinner, including; Ray Durham, Joe Borchard, Ty Wiggington and Negro
League Player Carl Long.

Ian Hinson, South Pointe High School
Ian is a five year varsity starter in centerfield for South Pointe High School in Rock Hill. He has been
captain of the team for the last three years. As a junior Ian batted .394. During his years as a varsity
player he has won the Most Improved Player Award, Hustle Award, Stallion Award and MVP. Ian is on
track to become the school’s all-time leader in hits, runs, walks and outfield assists. Ian has participated
in the Battle of the Border All Star Showcase and Diamond Prospects coveted Palmetto Games. In 2012 he
played for RHHF, now the SBA Canes South. He led the team in batting average, on base percentage and
stolen bases. Ian has a 3.7 grade point average. Ian has signed a Letter of Intent to continue his baseball
career at Limestone College and plans to major in Criminal Justice. He is the son of Jimbo and Joy
Hinson.
Tad Martin, Rock Hill High School
Tad is a 3 year starter and 4 year lettermen for Rock Hill High School. As a sophomore and junior, he
started every game at shortstop while batting leadoff for the Bearcats. Between both years, he has a
cumulative batting average of .345 and OBP of .485, with a fielding percentage of .979 and led the team
in stolen bases and runs. Tad was voted the Defensive MVP for the Bearcats his sophomore and junior
year, as well as being selected to the All-Region 3-AAAA team each year. Tad is currently ranked the #5
shortstop for the 2013 class by Diamond Prospects. He plays Showcase Baseball for East Coast Baseball
Academy out of Charleston, SC. As starting shortstop and leadoff hitter, he helped lead his team to a
perfect 7-0 record and #2 overall seed at the 2012 Perfect Game WWBA 18u National Championships. He
is currently committed to The College of Charleston to continue his baseball aspirations. Tad is the son of
Brian and Stacie Martin.
Troy Rawls, South Pointe High School
Troy is a two year starter at first base for South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, SC. He has been a
member of the South Pointe High School baseball program since his 8th grade year. During his junior
year, Troy helped lead the South Pointe Stallions to their best year in the history of the school with 76 at
bats, 21 runs scored, 29 hits, 22 RBI’s and he batted .382. He was selected to the 2012 York County All
Conference Team his junior year as well. Troy has played showcase baseball for the Rock Hill Hitting
Facility for the past 3 years. He is an exemplary student with a 4.0 grade point average. Troy has signed
a letter of intent to play baseball for and further his education at Limestone College in South Carolina.
Troy is the son of Michael and Karen Rawls.
Colby Robbins, South Pointe High School
Colby is a three year starter for South Pointe High School. He plays second base and shortstop. After
suffering a knee injury last December and undergoing his second knee surgery in 3 years, he was
released to take the field for the 8th game of the regular season. His hard work and determination to
return to the field in 12 weeks paid off, and he was able to resume his normal position at second base for
the remainder of the regular season and the play-offs. With only 35 AB’s, his stats reflected 10 hits, 8
singles, 7 RBI’s, an OBP of .404 and a .229 batting average. Colby continued to play strong defensively in
the infield, and be a leader on the team. He plays showcase ball for the Rock Hill Hitting Facility 18U
Black team, and has played in the Battle of the Border All Star Showcase Games the last three seasons.
Colby maintains a 3.625 grade point average, and has been a mentor for All American Athletes, a specialneeds athletic league for children in the Rock Hill school district. Colby has signed a NCAA National Letter
of Intent to play baseball at Limestone College. He is the son of Katie Brice and Andy Robbins.
Kevin Woods, Fort Mill High School
Kevin is a starter for the Fort Mill High School Varsity Baseball Team. As a sophomore, Kevin’s batting
average was .388, with an on base percentage of .545. Kevin was awarded Region 4-AAA All Region, also
selected for the USA Olympic Trials Team in Cary, NC. In his junior year Kevin’s batting average was
.351, and his on base percentages was .527. Kevin was awarded Region 4-AAA All Region and Fort Mill
made it to the state championship. Kevin also participated in the Battle of Border All Star Showcase. He
has played showcase baseball for Carolina Baseball Center, East Coast Prospects, and On Deck Baseball
Academy. He also played with the Kansas City Royals Scout Team this past fall. Kevin was also selected
to the All American Under Armor Team and played at Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL this past August.
Kevin is committed to Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL. He is the son Kevin, Sr. and Debbie Woods

Philip Perry
Congratulations to Philip Perry and Andrew Locklear on their nominations as finalists for the Charlotte
Hot Stove Baseball Awards. These two young men have worked hard and played together since 2008 and
we could not be prouder than to have coached them and watched them as they progressed in their careers.
As Philip and Andrew go off to East Carolina and Charleston Southern, respectively, we know their
preparation and drive to be successful will carry them far. God bless you and continue to work hard!!!!

“GAMER” AWARDS
Every successful baseball and softball team has a “gamer.” The one player that is always first on the field
and always setting the example with their hustle. When it’s time for the big play, this is the player that
always finds a way to help their team. They turn a single into a double, they make a leaping catch, they
lay down a successful bunt or they steal home to win the game. A “gamer” often heads home with the
dirtiest uniform, a few scratches or scrapes across their body or even blood stains across the front of their
jersey. The ultimate compliment that can be given to a baseball or softball player is to call them a
“gamer.”

Caroline Barnette, Butler High School
For the past two seasons, Caroline has played 3rd base for Butler High School’s Varsity Softball Team. Last
year, she was the leader in batting average, batting .397, and second in RBI’s, with 20. Due to such an
outstanding season, Caroline was named an All-Conference Player for the Southwestern 4A Conference.
Outside of school, Caroline plays travel softball for the Lady Tigers Elite, coached by Toni Melito, based in
Mooresville, NC. For the Tigers, Caroline pitches, as well as plays 3rd and 2nd base. Off the field, Caroline
plays Varsity basketball for Butler, averaging 7.6 points per game. She has played both sports, as well as
travel softball, while maintaining a 4.29 GPA, taking Honors and AP classes. Caroline has been on the A/B
honor roll every semester, except her junior year, when she made straight A’s. Caroline plans to play
softball for her grandfather’s alma mater, Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. She is the daughter of
Wilson and Laura Barnette.
Brittany Buckstad, Lake Norman Charter School
Brittany is a four year starting shortstop for Lake Norman Charter School. In LNC’s first year in the
competitive Southern Piedmont Athletic Conference, Brittany earned All-Conference honors along with
being selected to the first team of the All Lake Norman softball team. In 2012 Brittany led her team with
a .493 average, she also had 9 doubles and 1 home run while driving in 19 and scoring 25 runs. Brittany
started all 22 games at shortstop while committing only 1 error. Brittany is a leader on and off the field,
she ranks 3rd in her class with a weighted GPA of 4.92 and has earned multiple varsity letters in
Basketball, Golf and Tennis in her high school career. Brittany has made the decision not to continue her
softball career in college in order to focus on her academics. She has been accepted to the University of
South Carolina Honors College and is awaiting acceptance decisions from UNC-Chapel Hill, Wake Forest
and Vanderbilt before deciding on where to continue her education. Brittany is the daughter of Ken and
Nancy Buckstad.
Peyton Jordan, Marvin Ridge High School
Peyton is a four year starter for Marvin Ridge High School. She has assisted the Mavericks to three
consecutive 3A Conference Championships. Peyton has earned multiple All Conference, All District, All
State, Academic Excellence and All American Scholar Athlete awards. In 2010, Peyton was named Greater
Charlotte Hot Stove Youth Player of the Year. In her junior year, Peyton led the Mavericks to an 18-4
record with 7 shutouts on the mound. Pitching 138 innings, her ERA was .80 with 120 strikeouts against
19 walks, which earned her “Mavericks Defensive Player of the Year Award”. Her fielding average was
.990 and batting average .372. With similar statistics Peyton is the lead pitcher for her showcase team,
The Lady Blues Elite 18U. They compete against elite programs across the country. Peyton signed her
NCAA National Letter of Intent this fall to play softball at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
Inside the classroom, Peyton is an excellent student with a 4.2 grade point average. She is a member of
National Honors Society, National Art Honors Society and is active in Young Life while also working a part
time job. Peyton is the daughter of Kent and Deidre Jordan.
Kara Salvo, Cuthbertson High School
Kara is a four year starter for Cuthbertson High School. As a freshman, she was starting catcher and voted
co-captain. In her Sophomore year, Kara had a caught stealing percentage of .600, and an overall fielding
percentage of .846. At the plate, she batted .481 with six doubles, four triples, a homerun, and 28 RBIs;
ending the season with a total of 38 hits and a .696 slugging percentage. She was voted All Conference,
All Region, All State, and 1st Team Union County Public School. She participated in the Battle of the Border
All Star Showcase Games and was voted MVP. As a junior, Kara had a Batting Average of .458 with eight
doubles, seven triples, three homeruns, and 23 RBIs with a total of 33 hits. She had an on base
percentage on .487 with 13 stolen bases, and a .889 slugging percentage. Kara received the Cuthbertson
MVP award and made All-Conference. Kara is an outstanding student with a 4.47 GPA. She has signed a
NCAA National Letter of Intent to continue her softball career at Western Carolina University. She is the
daughter of Daniel and Donna Salvo.

Chris Clare, Charlotte Catholic High School
Chris has started every game at short stop for all three years while playing at Charlotte Catholic High
School. As a sophomore, he led his team in batting average, hitting .538, with 2 homeruns, 3 triples and
5 doubles; with an on base percentage of .661. He led the team in RBI’s with 35. Following his
sophomore year, he made the NTIS USA Mid-Atlantic Team, was named to the Prospect Wire
Underclassman All American Team, playing for Team South. Team South won the tournament, where
Chris was named MVP for the Championship Game. His junior year he batted third for the season,
finishing with a batting average of .369, on base percentage of .540 with 24 RBI’s, including 3 triples and
6 doubles, while leading Catholic to another Conference Championship, concluding the season with AllConference honors. Chris had the privilege of playing summer showcase ball with Champions Baseball
Academy as a member of the East Coast Prospects Black Team. He was named as Perfect Game
Preseason Underclassman All American. Chris has a 3.5 GPA, is a member of Fellowship of Christian
Athletes, and will continue his baseball career with High Point University. Chris is the son of Tim and
Marisa Clare.
Kirk Morgan, Mallard Creek High School
Kirk has played varsity baseball at Mallard Creek for three years, and he has been selected to the I-Meck
All Conference Team for all three years. Kirk hit .418 as a freshman and was named the team’s Offensive
Player of the Year. As a sophomore, Kirk hit .436. At the conclusion of the season, Kirk was honored as
the Defensive Player of the Year. He batted .368 as a junior. Kirk completed the season with a 2.14 ERA
on the mound, striking out 42 and walking 10. His season highlight was pitching a complete game win
against the nationally ranked T.C. Roberson Rams in the third round of the state playoffs, giving up only
three hits and striking out 6 while going 3 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBIs. He was awarded his team’s MVP
award. Kirk is a member of the South Charlotte Panthers 2013 team. At the beginning of the 2012
summer season, Kirk was named the team’s captain. He represents the first player ever selected as a
team captain in the South Charlotte Panthers organization. Kirk broke the all-time saves record and tied
the RBI record for the South Charlotte Panthers. He has a 4.2 GPA, is a member of the National Honor
Society, and volunteers with the Miracle League of Charlotte. Kirk has signed a National Letter of Intent
to play baseball at East Carolina University. He is the son of Scott and Mary Beth Morgan.
Addison Parrish, East Lincoln High School
Addison is a two year starter for East Lincoln High School. As a junior, Addison was 4-0 on the mound
with 2 saves. He posted a .88 ERA. When Addison isn’t on the mound, he plays first base for the
Mustangs. At the plate last season he batted .424, with 3 homeruns, 10 doubles, 29 RBI’s and 8 stolen
bases. Addison has played an integral part the past two seasons helping lead East Lincoln to 46 wins, a
24-2 record in conference play, back to back conference championships and as a sophomore contributed
to 2011 2A Western Regional runner up with four home runs in the playoffs. In 2012 Addison was named
the Southern Piedmont Conference Player of the Year, named to the 2A All-State Team and was a
member of the gold medal winning Region 6 State Games team. Addison also is a 3 year varsity letterman
for the East Lincoln basketball team. Addison is not only committed to being a complete athlete but also a
complete student where he has maintained a 3.5 GPA. Addison has committed to Western Carolina
University to continue his education and baseball career. He is the son of Lana and Jimmy Parrish
Logan Sherer, East Mecklenburg High School
Logan Sherer plays third base and pitched from the right side for East Mecklenburg High School. He is a
two-time All-Southwestern Conference performer with his senior season left to compete. Logan has
posted back-to-back seasons of hitting .350 or better, and with four homers in each of his previous two
campaigns, he has a slugging percentage of .620 or better from 2011 to 2012. On the mound, he posted
a 1.51 ERA and a 4-3 record in eight starts in his junior season. He struck out 47 and walked only 10 in
41.2 innings pitched for the Eagles. Logan was also a member of the South Charlotte Panthers and
showcased in the top baseball tournaments across the country. He was rated as a Top 15 third baseman
in the state, in the top 175 of third basemen nationally and a Top 500 player in the country by Perfect
Game. He will join the UNCC Forty-Niners Baseball program next season. Logan is the son of Jeff and
Tammy Sherer.
Derek Smith, Marvin Ridge High School
Derek Smith has been a four year starting shortstop at Marvin Ridge High School. Last season he batted
.305 and finished with a team high of 30 RBIs which ranked him 2nd in Union County. Derek has ranked in
the top 5 of the county with stolen bases in each of his three years of varsity play. He has been named
to the All Southern Carolina Conference Teams his last two seasons as well as First Team All-County and
Defensive Player of the Year. Derek has been selected to participate in the Battle of the Border All Star
Showcase Games for the past three years and played his showcase baseball with the South Charlotte
Panthers. The baseball field is not the only area that Derek has achieved athletic accolades. Having played
varsity football for the past three years he earned All Southern Carolina Conference and All County
awards as well as being named the “MVP” his senior year. After completion of his senior year at Marvin
Ridge High School, Derek will attend West Point Military Academy with a full baseball athletic scholarship.
Upon his graduation he will serve our country as 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. Derek is the son of David
and Donna Smith.

Park Sharon Blue Sox 10U
The 10U Park Sharon Blue Sox were formed as a select team in the fall of 2012 with a stated mission of
teaching life’s lessons through baseball. To that end, players and coaches made a commitment to learning
advanced fundamentals while seeking a high level of competition, which they found in Nations Baseball
tournaments. They laid a foundation of hard work and team work and watched as those two elements
manifested themselves in on-field success. Each practice and game is played under a banner, which
expresses the team mantra, “Change the Game”. That mantra encourages each player to “Change the
Game” through physical performance, effort, positive attitude and any other intangible, which may
positively influence the team’s performance. With a core group of players who had played both against
one another in Park Sharon’s recreation leagues and with one another as members of its select and allstar teams, the 2012 Blue Sox gave a preview of what would be a special fall season at the September
Ultimate Super Regional, when they went 4-0 to win the tournament and earn a spot in November’s
Winter World Series. The Blue Sox went on to win two more tournament titles en route to an 18-5 record.
They won three tournaments, finished second in one and third in another. The Blue Sox season peaked in
the November Ultimate Super Regional when they went 5-0, twice rallying from late deficits to win the
title.
Members of the Blue Sox are: Devin Armstrong, Nicholas Armstrong, Max Baratta, Cody Batchelor, Zach
Blanton, Winslow Brown, Breon Ishmael, Connor Miller, Carter Seate, Xavier Williams and coaches Eddie
Blanton, Tim Brown, Duane Batchelor and Leonard Armstrong.
SBA Canes 10U
The SBA Canes 10u team was formed two years ago to compete at the highest levels both locally and
nationally. In 2012 they entered the spring season as a premier 9u team. For the spring the Canes went
9-0 against 9u competition, 15-9 against 10u teams, and 5-0 against 11u teams. They were in 9
tournaments, winning 5 of them and finishing runner-up in two of them. Over the summer the Canes
were selected to participate in the TravelBall National Championship played in East Cobb, GA, where they
finished in 7th place overall. The Canes also qualified for the Elite 32 World Series held in Orlando, FL.
They went 5-2 and placed 9th overall. Over the course of the spring/summer the Canes were able to
solidify a national ranking as one of the top ten 9u teams in the country. In the Fall the team entered the
season as a premier 10u team. The Canes really caught fire and went an amazing 25-2-1. The Canes won
every tournament they entered except one in which they finished as the runner-up. The fall season saw
them qualify again for the Elite 32 World Series, as well as earn invites to National Tournaments. In all the
Canes went 62-16-1 over the 2012 season. Even more impressive than what the boys have done on the
field, is the bond that they have created off of it. They truly are a family in every sense of the word.
The 10u SBA Players are: Dante Casciola, Mitchell Crowley, Noah Caulder, Jakob Eudy, Justin Cooke,
Trevor Kowalski, Cade Kuehler, Jackson Melton, Alec Luna, James Monk, JD Suarez, Max Zdimal, John
Newton, Will Dorrell and Kyle McKernan. Coaches include; Glenn Kowalski, Richard Kuehler and Rick
Suarez.
South Charlotte Thunder 9U
The South Charlotte Thunder Baseball Club was established in 2011 with the mission to develop young
athletes both physically and mentally to compete at the highest level while promoting sportsmanship,
teamwork, dedication and most importantly to have fun. We strive to develop an atmosphere of caring,
love, sharing and trust. The Thunder hopes to develop quality young men that will contribute in their
communities. The South Charlotte Thunder is dedicated to a philosophy of growing as a baseball family
not just as a team. We enjoy spending time together off the field just as much as on the field. Our goal is
to develop friendships that extend far beyond the game of baseball. Strong relationships between players
build trust and loyalty among the young individuals and we find this a key to our success. We aim to
develop a mindset to compete not only in baseball but also in life. Over the last four seasons our ability to
compete on the field has grown exponentially. After a successful 8U season, the Thunder elected to move
to the 9U division three months early to develop needed skills for the kid-pitch game. This move and the
boy’s hard work paid off with the South Charlotte Thunder capturing five championships in seven Nations
Baseball Elite Fall Tournaments. The South Charlotte Thunder was recognized this offseason by
BASEBALL THE MAGAZINE with an extended team story. As we move forward, we pledge to maintain and
strengthen our commitment to the underlying theme of our program, FAMILY FIRST.
The South Charlotte Thunder 9U Baseball Club includes; Aidan Christmas, Eli Jerzembeck, Owen Majcina,
Jakeman Pendleton, Aaron Pendergast, Brock Rawson, Dylan Rawson, Tyler Roakes, Joey Ruller and
Connor Touranjoe. The team is coached by Tripp Roakes, Jody Pendleton and Jody Rawson. Our
professional instructors are former major league players Joe Borchard and John Ennis.

WESTLAKE WARRIORS 11U
The Westlake Warriors Baseball organization was founded in Denver, NC in 2011 as a non-profit
organization to provide boys in the Denver/Mooresville/Lake Norman area an opportunity to play travel
baseball at a high level and receive quality baseball instruction. In just our 2nd season together, the
Westlake Warriors 11U team earned our first Nations Baseball Championship along with 2 Runners-Up
finishes in 8 tournaments We finished the season with a 17-9-1 record in Nations Select Division games
and had the highest Nations Point total for all North Carolina divisions for the 11U Fall Season. Our core
beliefs revolve around TEAMWORK and how each player on the Warriors team has an important role in
the success of the team. Our coaching staff emphasizes that Hustle, Effort, Attitude, Respect, and
Teamwork are the building blocks to success in baseball and in life. Our players and coaches exemplify
these qualities when we play in Nations Baseball Tournaments. These boys have grown as baseball
players and young men, but most importantly have learned the value of hard work.

Belmont Pelicans 13U
The Belmont Pelicans 13U Baseball Team was organized in 2010 to give the players in the Belmont/
Cramerton area an opportunity to play travel baseball on a local team and further develop their baseball
skills. In 2010 and 2011 the Pelicans played up an age group due to roster limitations and worked hard to
overcome disadvantages. In 2011, the Belmont Pelican’s coach, Ros Gause, acquired a warehouse space
and converted it into a batting cage facility for the team to use for off season training, batting cage
practice, and indoor fielding practice. In the 2012 baseball season the roster was adjusted to allow the
team to play 12U baseball. This season was by far the best season that the Belmont Pelican’s have had
with an overall record of 31 wins and 14 loses and an astonishing in-class record of 22 wins and 0 loses.
After playing in 10 tournaments in the 2012 season, the team finished in the top 3 in 7 out of 10
tournaments, and finished in 1st place in three of the tournaments. By the end of the 2012 baseball
season the Belmont Pelicans 12U team were ranked #1 in the state (North Carolina) and also ranked #1
in the United States in their division.
The Belmont Pelicans 12U players: Dawson Gause, Jacob McCray, Scottie Lee, Cameron Hilton, Jacob
Hunsucker, Matthew Robinson, Tyler Bradley, Jason Odem, Brandon Poplin, Ethan Shell and Austin Primm.
Charlotte Megastars 14U
The Charlotte Megastars program was founded in 2000 by Jeff McNeely, a former major leaguer with the
Boston Red Sox and currently an associate scout with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Mel Wearing who played
in the Baltimore Orioles organization is the Director of the Megastars lower level teams.
Today the Megastars program has over 60 players participating of teams from 13U to 18U. The 14U
Megastars list of accomplishments include a 2012 summer record 25-5, top finishes in USSSA and Nations
Baseball tournaments, as well as WWBA Perfect Game and Triple Crown National appearances. They had
a 17 game winning streak and won 4 tournaments in a row during this streak. They were coached by
Andrew Starnes who played high school baseball at Independence HS and college ball at Mars Hill College.
In addition to Coach Starnes, Independence High School Baseball Coach Daniel Cooke helped coached this
talented group. Sam Skinner who played high school baseball at South Meck and attended East Carolina
University served as the pitching coach. Sam was one of the original Megastars who team won the AAU
State Championship and finished 6th in the country under Coach McNeely.
The 14u Megastars players include: Cory Delair, Jonah Beamon, Jordan Starkes, Jacob Whitcomb, Neil
Taylor, Deaunte Ford, Chase Whisnant, Quinton Sisler, Justin Sponseller, Justin Williams, Anthony Palma,
Cameron Greene.
Steele Creek Hurricanes
The Steele Creek Hurricanes were founded in the Fall of 2010 by coaches Mike McFadden and Wes Lathe
as an 11U team . The team came together to give the best players in the Steele Creek Athletic Association
Recreation League the opportunity to play baseball at a higher level. The goals and expectations for the
Hurricanes have been clear and consistent since the beginning: Never, ever give up! Show the best in
class sportsmanship to your opponents and umpires at all times. Do your best in all situations. This type
of mentality created success for the Hurricanes early on and this hard work continued to pay off in 2012.
The 2012 Steele Creek Hurricanes won 5 Nations Baseball Championships and finished Runner Up
once. The success of this team is due not only to their determination and tough baseball play but also
because of the quality of their character and the great sportsmanship displayed in all situations. Their
purpose was to make a mark for themselves not solely by the number of runs on the scoreboard but how
the team would be remembered after the game was over. The coaches and parents have heard time and
time again about the tough competition and how hard the team was to play against but also the great
sportsmanship the team displayed despite the outcome.
The amazing young men of the 2012 Steele Creek Hurricanes are Michael Gentry, Matthew Gibson, Ryan
Hines, Jonathan Krutzig, Jordan Lathe, Parker Manley, Colin McFadden, Dylan Moore, Eli Parker, Nathan
Spencer, Vasilije Strugar, and Zach Tully.
Team Speed Killz
Team Speed Killz started as a 10U select team in the spring of 2011 with the intention of preparing
players for middle school baseball through the experience of training and competition. The players are
from various middle schools in Gaston County. Our emphasis is on baseball fundamentals coupled with
speed and agility. Our practices incorporate speed and agility drills and once a month. Antico Dalton
owner of ProSpeed trains the players. Our 2013 fall season saw great improvement over our 2012
season. Our 2012 record was 23-23. However, we finished the spring season strong with a tournament
win in the Ultimate Super Regional with a record of 5-0. In the fall season we moved from the select
division to elite. Our overall record was 25-6. We won 3 tournaments and placed runner up in 2. We were
5-0 in the Seventh Annual Triple Play Challenge; 4-0 in The Race Weekend Hardball Championship; 5-0 in
The All-American Fall Championship. We had a win streak of 13 games in a row during the fall. The
players are learning that hard work with proper preparation results in success. This lesson also carries into
school and life.
The Team Speed Killz players are: Tyler Bradley, Jake England, Carson Haynes, John Hildebrand, Taylor
Hughes, Brandon Kang, Hunter Melton, Austin Mitchell, Austin Primm, Dalton Williams and Brae Wooten.

Lady Blues Softball Team
The Lady Blues (formerly known as the Queen City Hornets) competed in the 14U and 16U age groups in
2012 and accumulated a record of 63-12-1 (an .828 winning percentage). During their 14U season, the
team registered victories over teams from Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina,
Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia and their way to seven tournament
championships. Major tournament championships included; ASA Season Opener, ASA Queen of the Hill,
The Mighty Casey (Super Bracket Champions), and the ASA Diamond Classic World Series. In the fall, the
team moved up to compete at the 16U level where they amassed a 14-3-1 record and ended the year
with 11 straight victories against teams 1-2 years older. The team has consistently been one of the top
teams in the Southeast for over five years and is made up of 11 players that represent seven different
high schools. In addition to their exemplary on field success, the team is also strong academically with a
majority of players taking AP/Honors classes and they are also active in the community where annually
they choose one major community service project to complete.

Gordon, Chelsie Grazier, Samantha Grazier, Sarah Martin, Morgan Smith, and Dharma Rosbrugh.
MARA 11U All Stars
The end of July 2012 completed a long, two month journey of practices, scrimmages and tournaments for
the 11U MARA (Matthews Athletic & Rec Association) All-Stars. On this ultimate win or go home journey,
the team knew that a tournament loss on the Cal Ripken Trail meant their season was over. The team
won the 11U Cal Ripken Area Championship and State Championship. Going into the State Championship
tournament in Asheville, the team was undefeated on the Cal Ripken trail. The All Stars won the state
title , their third consecutive State Championship title for this age group at MARA. The 2012 Southeastern
Regionals were held in western Tennessee. They are the highest level tournament an 11U Cal Ripken All
Star team can be a part of and this group of boys earned it with their resolute, never give up effort on the
field and unwavering support of each other. After winning the Around the Horn Competition, the team
played its way to a 5th place finish in the entire region. This group of boys have competed against each
other and played together on many teams since they began playing tee ball and machine pitch years ago.

Union County Vipers
The 2012 Union County Vipers, fall under the governance of the Carolina Vipers Baseball Academy, Inc. a
non- profit 501 (c)(3) Travel Baseball organization. It is led by Mike Polito, Waxhaw, NC. For the past
five years we have worked very hard as an organization to provide our players with superior training,
knowledge and the highest level of competition possible. Our goal is Total Player Development, and to be
a Premier travel baseball program that seeks out and competes with the strongest teams across the
country. The Vipers fielded two 11u Premier teams in 2012 that finished with an impressive 82-37-1
record. We competed against the top 11 year old programs in our region and from across the country.
The Vipers won an impressive (12) championships, 4 of which were won playing up an age level. During
2012, the 11U Union County Vipers were ranked #1 in North Carolina and #10 in the country by Nations
Baseball. In addition, the Vipers were ranked #2 in North Carolina by USSSA Baseball, and listed as one
of the top 25 teams in the country by Travel Ball Select. The highlight of the 2012 season was the Vipers
earning 1 of only 32 slots in the prestigious USSSA Elite 32 World Series held at Disney’s ESPN Wide
World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL.

The 2102 Charlotte Christian baseball team finished the season with a 32-6 record and recorded their 11th
NCISAA state title and 10th with Coach Greg Simmons at the helm. Along the way to the state title the
Knights picked up a number of accolades. Among those were the 2012 Sunshine Classic spring break
tournament champions in Pompano Beach FL. The Knights also won their 14th CISAA conference title and
made their 14th final four appearance. The team was led by Bailey Ober on the mound posting a 10-1
record and a 1.00 ERA. Bailey also contributed at the plate leading the team with 10 doubles. Matt
Simmons led the Knights in most offensive categories with 9 HR, 34 RBI, 612 Slugging % and an OPS of
1.060. The Knights return 5 starters for the 2013 season and are looking for a repeat performance. Top
wins for the Knights included; Richmond County, 4 wins and Championship in the Florida Sunshine Classic,
South Rowan, South Meck, Myers Park and Charlotte Country Day.
Hough High School
The 2012 Hough Huskies, led by Coach Jimmy Cochran, finished their season with a 23-12 record, and a
4A Western Regional Championship. The Huskies notched two winning streaks of 7 or more wins, with
the second coming on a 9 game streak through the I-Meck conference tournament and state playoffs.
The second year program finished the I-Meck regular season in second place at 10-4, and won the
conference tournament. The Huskies earned a spot in the 4A State Playoffs, and went on a run where
they won four one-run games and advanced to the 4A State Championship Series. The Huskies ended the
season with 4 I-Meck All Conference Selections, The I-Meck Pitcher of the year, and two All State
Selections. Five members of the team are currently continuing their careers in college. Top wins for the
Huskies included; Ardrey Kell, Hopewell, East Forsyth, Lake Norman, Myers Park, South Caldwell and
Mallard Creek.
The 2012 Hough Baseball Team included: Andrew Altamira, Nick Bernado, Jacob Buchanan, Brandon
Casas, Will Champion, Nick Daddio, Derek Fuller, AJ Girting, Brandon Gragilla, Zach Moore, Greyson
Oxidine, Johnny Piedmonte, Eric Siler, Jared Sobo, Josh Stilley, Pierce Suttles, Spencer Venator, and
Jeffrey Williamson. Coaches: Jimmy Cochran, Mike Fadel, Zack Rosenbaum, Jim Stegall.
Weddington High School
The 2012 Weddington Warriors, led by Travis Poole, finished their season with an overall record of 28
wins and 6 losses. The team also finished 9-3 in conference play. After starting the season 9 and 5, the
Warriors won 19 of their last 20 games out scoring their opponents 153 – 29. During this time, the
Warriors swept North Buncombe for the Regional Championship and then swept CB Aycock High School to
claim the 3A Baseball State Championship. In 2012 Weddington had four All Conference players,
Conference Player of the Year, two All Region and two All State players. Top wins for the Warriors
included; Ardrey Kell, Charlotte Christian, Providence, West Rowan, Carson, South Rowan, North
Buncombe, and CB Aycock.
The Warriors include: Daniel Calabretta, Chase Prilliman, Graham Wadsworth, Andrew Knight, Sean
Collins, Jeff Welch, Daniel Bayha, David Pope, Chris Simpson, Jake Ferry, Connor Newton, Josh Islam,

LOU PRESUTTI AWARD
One day, while standing in the Cooperstown National Baseball Hall of Fame with his son and grandson, a
grandfather exclaimed ... "every kid in America should have the opportunity to play baseball in
Cooperstown!"
The Dream lived on in the 5-year old grandson's mind with the boy and his father dedicating themselves
to the cause of youth baseball.
In 1992 Lou Presutti, Sr., the grandfather, passed away, but the dream intensified as Lou III, the
grandson, became more determined to make his grandfather's dream come true.
Construction began in Spring of 1996 amidst some of the heaviest rainfall in Otsego County's history.
Against all odds, construction crews and hundreds of other contractors committed themselves to the
mission of Cooperstown Dreams Park. The determination of the workers, the blind faith of those
inaugural year coaches, players and teams, and the dreams of the Presutti family to build Cooperstown
Dreams Park, have opened the door for the youth of America to experience a baseball park unlike any
other in the world.
Long live the spirit of Louis A Presutti ... his dream that every youth in America be given the opportunity
to play baseball in Cooperstown.
In honor of Lou (Coach) Presutti and his work to develop the game of youth baseball, the Greater
Charlotte Hot Stove League dedicated an award in his name in 2010. The Lou Presutti Award is given to a
deserving individual that has worked to advance youth baseball and provide opportunities for this
wonderful game to be enjoyed by all.

Alexander Bostic, Weddington High School
Alexander is a three year Varsity player for Weddington High School. It was an amazing 2012 season. As a
pitcher, Alexander had a 12-0 record with 3 saves on the mound during his junior season. He pitched 89
and 2/3 innings with 143 strikeouts and and a .092 ERA . At the plate he had his best year ever leading
Union County in homeruns and RBI’s. He batted .400 with 35 RBI’s in the Warriors 34 game season. This
included 9 homeruns, 3 triples, 8 doubles along with 15 walks and 10 hit by pitches. Alexander finished
the season with a .810 slugging percentage and 7 stolen bases. When not on the mound for Weddington,
Alexander played centerfield. Alexander helped lead the Warriors to a 3A State Championship. He received
MVP of the State Games as well as, Southern Conference Player of the Year, Weddington High School
MVP, All Region, and All State. Alexander played Showcase Baseball for the South Charlotte Panthers his
sophomore and junior year. Alexander has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to continue playing
baseball at Clemson University. He is the son of Drew and Teresa Bostic.
Brandon Gragilla, Hough High School
Brandon has been a two year starter at Hough High School. Last year, Brandon threw 87 innings,
compiling a, 11-2 record with a 1.04 earned run average and had 69 strikeouts and only 18 walks. He had
a 3.8 strikeout to walk ratio. Brandon was selected to the All-State team. He was also named the I-MECK
4A conference pitcher of the year, and the Huskies won the conference tournament. Perhaps Gragilla’s
best performance came in a 3-2 road victory against perennial power South Caldwell in the third round of
the playoffs, when he scattered six hits. Brandon’s strong efforts on the mound were key to Hough High
School’s run all the way to the state championship series. In addition to school baseball, Brandon played
in the On Deck O’s organization for many years. Brandon holds a 3.6 grade point average and will play
baseball and pursue a degree in accounting next year at Wake Tech Community College.
Bailey Ober, Charlotte Christian School
Bailey is a returning senior and a two year starter for Charlotte Christian High School. As a junior Bailey
led Charlotte Christian to a NCISAA 3A State Championship, pitching a 2-1 two hitter in the deciding
game. He posted a record of 11-1 on the mound with a 1.10 ERA with 67 strikeouts against 6 walks in 71
innings, including throwing a No-hitter. When Bailey isn’t on the mound, he plays first base for the
Knights. At the plate, he batted .365 while hitting one home run, 11 doubles, 23 RBI’s. Bailey was
selected to the All-CISAA Conference Team and NCISAA All-State Team. He was a member of the winning
Region 6 team in the North Carolina State Games, winning the two games that he was the starting
pitcher. Bailey started in the Dirty 30 Futures Game and he was picked to participate in the Battle of the
Border All Star Showcase Games and the South Atlantic Border Battle. Bailey plays Showcase Baseball for
the SBA Canes and South Charlotte Panthers. He was named as a 2011 Perfect Game USA Preseason
Underclassman All-American Honorable Mention. Bailey is active in Charlotte Christian Fellowship,
volunteering his time throughout the year. He has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to continue his
baseball career at the College of Charleston. He is the son of Dan and Cathy Ober.
Philip Perry, Jay M. Robinson High School
Philip is a three year letterman playing for Jay M. Robinson High School in Concord. As a sophomore he
was 7-3 with a 2.08 ERA including a win over West Iredell in the first round of the state playoffs. Philip
had a breakout junior year, posting a 6-4 record and 1.88 ERA with 103 strikeouts and only 11 walks in 66
innings, including a 13 strikeout no hitter against Kannapolis in the South Piedmont Conference playoffs.
In three years of playing showcase baseball, Philip has accumulated a record of 29-4. In 2010, he posted
an 8-0 record pitching for the CBC Diamond Rats Army before earning a spot on the South Charlotte
Panthers 2013 team. Philip went 12-1 for the Panthers with 2 victories in the USA championships in
Jupiter, FL where the team finished third nationally. He threw a shutout at the USA Cup in Cary, NC as
the Panthers won the championship as well. This past season, Philip went 9-3 with a 1.98 ERA and 71
strikeouts in 68 innings. Philip earned a spot on the Region 6 team of the PowerAde State Games in
Winston Salem where the team won the championship this past season.. He has been a four year
participant in the Battle of the Border All-Star Showcase at Winthrop University. Academically, Philip has
maintained a 3.2 GPA in high school and has signed a National Letter of Intent to pitch for East Carolina
University.

Jordan Goodman, Northwest Cabarrus High School
Jordan Goodman missed his freshman and sophomore high school baseball seasons due to three ACL
tear/repair surgeries. The left ACL was torn in a play at first base in July 2009 at the USSSA World Series
in Charleston, SC. The right ACL torn in an injury at 2nd base at the beginning of his freshman baseball
season in March 2010. And the right ACL was torn again in Feb 2011 on the Friday before baseball
practice was to begin on Monday. Following a lengthy rehabilitation period Jordan had a successful Junior
year playing the game he loves. Jordan plays first base and designated hitter. Jordan’s stats for his 2012
high school season were: batted .472 with 3 homeruns, 7 doubles, 21 RBI’s and had no errors playing 1st
base. Jordan was named All SPC and All Cabarrus County . Jordan was also able to play American Legion
baseball as soon as the high school season ended in 2012. During his American Legion season he hit .394
with 3 homeruns, 6 doubles and 21 RBI’s. While playing during American Legion season , Jordan had
minor surgery to remove a pin in his right knee on Monday and was back on the field on Saturday night.
Jordan was voted Offensive Player of the Year for American Legion Post 115 and was also named to the
All Star team. Jordan will attend Catawba College in the fall to play baseball and continue his education.
Peyton Taylor, Sun Valley High School
Peyton started playing softball at the age of nine at the Indian Trail Athletic Association. At age 12, she
moved onto play competitive travel softball for the UC Extreme and MSA Cobras. Peyton played her
middle school softball at Queens Grant Community School before having ACL and Meniscus repair surgery
in the eighth grade. Following the surgery, Peyton began a very long rehabilitation process to return to
the game she loved. As a freshman at Sun Valley High School last spring, Peyton pitched every inning of
all 21 games for the varsity softball team. Peyton’s successful freshman season with 60 strikeouts,
allowed her to be named team MVP. Following the season, Peyton was chosen to participate in the Battle
of the Border All Star Showcase Games. Peyton would like to one day pursue a career in sports medicine
and physical therapy. She is the daughter of Jim and Suzanne Taylor.
Ross Groome, Myers Park High School
Ross dislocated his left shoulder as a rising junior in the summer of 2011. He rehabbed his way back onto
the field in the fall of that year, playing for the East Coast Prospects. In the 2012 high school season, Ross
maintained a .377 batting average, earning him a Southwestern 4A All-Conference selection and Myers
Park Offensive MVP. Ross has also competed in the Battle of the Border All-Star Showcase Games. Playing
with the East Coast Prospects this past summer, Ross hit .365 with seven doubles and 20 RBIs. Ross will
look to continue his success this spring as a senior, despite a replicated shoulder dislocation in October
2012. This resulted in a labrum surgery to fix the issue. Ross has maintained a 3.5 GPA throughout high
school. He will continue his athletic and academic career at Wingate University this fall. He plans on
majoring in biology and then pursuing a job in the pharmaceutical field. Ross is the son of Doug and Beth
Groome.

Kayla Hall, Hough High School
Kayla is a four-year softball varsity team starter. She began her career at Hopewell High School as a utility
player, but then moved to Hough High School where she plays alongside some of the best outfielders in
the league. With a strong commitment to success, Kayla earned All-Conference honors last year for
center field with a fielding percentage of: .889 and only 3 errors. She has been an asset to the offensive
side as well with a batting average of: .327, with 6 doubles and 9 RBIs. Kayla and her Hough teammates
have built a very nice softball program in two short years of the school being open. Kayla is also a very
committed and successful student. She has challenged herself with many AP courses and has maintained
a 4.2 weighted grade point average. Kayla is an active volunteer for Special Olympics of North Carolina
and for the local Carolina Comets Softball Organization. She will continue her softball and academic career
at the College of Charleston. Kayla is the daughter of Bob and Jean Hall.
Kimberly Rivers, Forest Hills High School
Kimberly is a 3-sport student/athlete at Forest Hills High School. She has lettered in Volleyball,
Basketball, and Softball. Kimberly has been awarded All-Conference, All-District, and All-State recognition
in Softball. She has been All-Conference in Volleyball and currently serves as one of the two Captains of
the Basketball team. Last summer Kimberly participated as a member of the Region 6 State Games
Softball team. Kimberly has started in centerfield for the Lady Jackets softball team for 3 years. In her
sophomore year, Kimberly was 27 for 27 in stolen bases for the year. Inside the classroom, Kimberley is
ranked first in her senior class with a grade point average of 4.92. Her ACT score of 31 and SAT score of
2000 ranks her at number one among her peers at Forest Hills. Kimberly is an active member of both the
BETA club and National Honor Society. She is also the Student Body President at Forest Hills and
President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Kimberly and one of her friends started the HOPE club at
Forest Hills. The club was started to raise money and awareness for world hunger. She is also an active
member of the youth group at Philadelphia Baptist Church and volunteers at a horse farm that teaches
disabled and autistic children how to ride. Kimberly plans to further her education at the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill next year. Kimberly is the daughter of Eddie and Pam Rivers.

Macey Webb, West Stanley High School
Macey is a three year starting catcher for West Stanly High School softball team. As a freshman, she had
a .523 avg, .730 obp, and hit 4 homeruns. As a sophomore she had a .569 avg, .707 obp, 4 homeruns,
and 38 RBI. As a junior her season was cut short due to her breaking her leg while sliding into third base.
To start her junior year she hit 6 homeruns and was the team leading hitter. After breaking her leg on
March 28, 2012 and having surgery April 2, 2012, she returned to hit in the state playoffs for the West
Stanly Colts. Through hard work and refusing to stay down, she was able to have a miracle recovery and
get back to playing softball in two months. Macey has earned all-county, all-conference, all-district and allstate honors two years in a row. Macey plays travel softball for the Carolina Elite. Her coach is, Tony
Genovese. She plays first base and catches for the Carolina Elite. She is an outstanding student with a
4.35 GPA and is ranked 16th in her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society,
Student Council, and is the President of her schools FCA. Macey signed her National Letter of Intent on
November 13, 2012 to continue her softball career at the University of South Carolina. Macey is the
daughter of Daron and Mitzi Webb.

Andrew Burnick, Providence Day School
Andrew is a three year starter for Providence Day High School. As a sophomore he was named to the
NCISAA 3A All-Conference second team and participated in the Battle of the Border All Star Showcase
Games that year. As a junior he hit .300 with 24 RBI’s. He played showcase baseball for the CBC O’s /
East Coast Prospects, and the On Deck O’s for the past two years. Andrew was a 2012 Perfect Game
Preseason Honorable Mention. This past season he pitched 43 innings with 47 strikeouts against 20 walks
while posting an ERA of 2.28. At the plate he had 12 hits in 27 at bats, for an average of .444 with an on
base percentage of .574. Andrew is an outstanding student with a 4.4 grade point average out of a
possible 4.75 at PDS. He is a member of the Cum Laude Society and is ranked in the top 10% out of 130
students in his grade. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, and the Students of Service
organization at Providence Day School, and served on the U.S. Congresswoman Sue Myrick Youth
Advisory Board in 2011-2012. Andrew has committed to continue his baseball career at the University of
Pennsylvania of the Ivy League and will be attending the Wharton School of Business. He is the son of
Jim and Michelle Burnick of Weddington, North Carolina.
Joey Eberle, Charlotte Catholic High School
Joey has exceled both on the baseball field and in the classroom at Charlotte Catholic. As a starting right
fielder and pitcher, Joey has brought a strong bat to Catholic as well as his CBC/On Deck travel teams. In
addition to excellent defense, Joey has averaged over a .500 on base percentage in each of the past three
seasons. During his sophomore season, Joey’s combined batting average was .445 with an ERA under
3.50. As a junior, Joey battled multiple elbow surgeries in March and again in September which kept him
from pitching and playing outfield. Serving as a DH, Joey continued his hitting prowess with a batting
average of .331. Before his first injury, Joey was successful on the mound posting a 1-0 record and a
1.25 ERA. Joey had “Tommy John” surgery in September and is looking forward to having a great,
healthy senior year. In the classroom, Joey boasts a 4.5 GPA and currently ranks 5th in his class of over
350. He has received all “As” at Charlotte Catholic earning High Honors every semester. He passed three
Advanced Placement tests last year and currently has five AP courses this year. Joey has been recognized
as a Commended National Merit Scholar, an AP Scholar, and received a perfect score on the Math portion
of the SATs. He serves as an officer for the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Fellowship of
Christian Athletes, and is a tutor in math and physics. Joey is the son of Missie and T.J. Eberle.
Alex Fink, Myers Park High School
Alex will be a second year varsity player this season at Myers Park where he was named “Pitcher of the
Year.” Last year he was used as a starter as well as a closer with 4 saves. His top two efforts were late in
the season when he tossed two completed games against Ardrey Kell, including a 10 inning affair in the
SW4A tournament. Alex also played for the SBA Canes in the summer and fall under coaches Gregg
Simmons and Jake Robbins. He participated in the Battle of the Border All Star Showcase Games and was
awarded MVP for three innings of no-hit baseball. Alex’s academics are very strong. He has a 4.5 GPA and
is a National Honor Society member along with many other clubs. Alex is an IB diploma candidate at
Myers Park and has accumulated over 400 hours of community service. He is uncertain where he is going
to attend college next year. Alex plans to find the best academic school possible and hopes to continue his
baseball career. Alex is the son of Jim and Libby Fink.
Tyler Jensen, Charlotte Catholic High School
Tyler is a returning Varsity Senior this year at Charlotte Catholic High School. Last year Tyler was selected
to the 4A/3A MEGA7 all-conference team as a third baseman. As a junior Tyler batted .391 with 23 RBI’s
helping Catholic go several rounds into the state playoffs. During the summer and fall Tyler played
showcase baseball for On Deck. Tyler also was selected for the fourth time to play in the annual Battle of
the Borders All Star Showcase Games. In the classroom Tyler has compiled a 4.1 GPA while participating
in school leadership as a past student council class president and student retreat coordinator leading
school religious activities and charity events at CCHS. Tyler has also received two summer internships
working at Red Ventures an internet marketing firm in their web based asset area. He is also a member
of the National Honor Society. Tyler is currently undecided as to which school he plans to attend. He is the
son of Mark and Cheryl Jensen.
Andrew Locklear, South Point High School
Andrew is a Senior at South Point High School in Belmont. He is a 3 year starter for the Red Raiders
Varsity Baseball team. As a sophomore, he pitched a decisive complete game 3 to win the 2011 NCHS 3A
State Championship. As a Junior, he helped lead the Red Raiders to an undefeated conference
championship; their first undefeated conference season since 1981. In the summer of 2012, Andrew was
selected to participate on the Region 6 NC State Games team. During that week he hit .458 and picked
up two victories on the mound – one being the championship game that earned Region 6 the gold medal.
In addition to his high school team, Andrew played for the South Charlotte Panthers in 2011 and the
spring of 2012. His combined batting average was .329. His results on the mound were 10-4 with a 2.55
ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. Academically, Andrew carries a 4.75 GPA and is in the top 6% of his class at
South Point High School. He is a member of the Beta Club and the National Honor Society. He has
passed two national AP exams which have earned him college credit as well as taken a class at Gaston
College. Andrew will continue his career at Charleston Southern University. He is a Jairy C. Hunter, Jr.
Scholarship Recipient at Charleston Southern. Andrew is the son of Ray and Kelly Locklear of Belmont
David Marvin, East Meck High School
David is a 3 year Varsity Starter for the East Mecklenburg Baseball team. A SW4A All-Conference Baseball
selection as a junior in 2012, David led the East Meck team with a Batting Average of .371 while recording

Batting Average of .342, His 2011 stats included an ERA of 2.10 with 1 Shutout. David played showcase
baseball in 2012 for the East Coast Prospects. In addition to playing baseball, David is a 4 year starter on
the East Meck football team as a Kicker/Punter and a 2012 SW4A Football All-Conference Punter. David is
also a 4 year starter and 2 Year Captain of the East Meck soccer team garnering honors on both the 2012
SW4A All-Conference Soccer Team, and the All-Region Soccer Team. He is a 3 time USA Baseball National
Identification Series Mid-Atlantic Team Selectee and a 2012 USA Football U-19 National Team Trials
Invitee. In the classroom, David ranks 4th in his class with a 4.833 weighted GPA (4.0 unweighted GPA).
He has earned the AP Scholar designation based on his junior year AP achievements. He is President of
the Senior Class, Captain of the Dream Team, Junior Marshall, Junior Class Treasurer, 2 year member of
the East Meck Athletes for Success Team and 3 year letterman in the East Meck Marching and Symphonic
Bands. David has committed to play football at Wofford College on a full athletic scholarship. He is the
son of Rick and Martha Marvin.

2009 Greater Charlotte Hot Stove League Softball Player of the Year Kalie Lang will enter into her senior
year at UNCC this spring. Last season Kalie started all 55 games at first base, batted .272 with 47 hits
and 28 RBIs. She also led the team with 11 doubles and third with three home runs.

Madison Arroyo, Marvin Ridge High School
Madison has been a permanent fixture at Shortstop for the Marvin Ridge Maverick’s Softball Team since
her freshman year. She’s an instrumental part of Marvin Ridge’s softball success over the last 3 seasons
(going into her 4th season), boosting the Maverick’s to 3 straight SCC Class 3A Championships and deep
into the state playoffs. At the plate, she has batted over .432 through her junior year. Madison’s Junior
season was cut short after she was struck by a car in the school parking lot exiting a school pep-rally, a
scary school accident that made her miss close to 18 games her Junior year. She came back to finish the
year by leading her team in Batting Average, Homeruns, Triples and Slugging percentage Madison was
selected to the All-SCC Conference Team, All Region Team and All State Team by her peers and coaches.
She is a starting infielder for the Lady Lightning Gold - Team Miken . Madison volunteers her time
teaching, coaching and mentoring young female softball athletes within the Lightning Organization and
other local players. She holds a Brown Belt in Jujitsu, Aikido & Grappling and is set to volunteer at ESPNU as she pursues her goal of being a sports broadcaster on national television after college. Madison is an
Honor Roll student with a 3.80 GPA. She is a member of DECA, FBLA and Marvin Ridge Spirit Club.
Madison signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to continue her softball career and play in the SEC at
Mississippi State University. She is the daughter of Marcus and Dory Arroyo.
Kayla McGuffey, Lake Norman High School
Kayla has been a softball player since she was 7 years old when she saw her older sister Mariah playing &
decided she wanted to try it. Kayla moved into High School softball by playing center field during her
freshman year for the varsity team. Unfortunately, Kayla broke her foot sliding into home and was out
most of her freshman year but returned in time to play centerfield in the High School Playoffs. The next
season, Kayla agreed to go to the position of catcher to replace her graduated sister.. While playing in a
position where she had no previous experience, as a sophomore and junior, she earned All-State, AllRegion and All-Conference honors as a catcher. During her high school play in 2012, as the lead-off
batter, she batted .442 with an on-base percentage of .469. She racked up 42 stolen bases and scored 78
runs. As a member of the Carolina Comets Gold, the slap hitter batted .447 with an on-base percentage of
.472. She compiled 46 stolen bases and scored 83 runs while playing in high-profile college showcases.
Kayla committed to play Division I Softball at Morehead State University in Kentucky by signing a National
Letter of Intent in December 2012. Kayla has been involved with the local Habitat for Humanity,
Outreach Club, and Special Olympics Volunteer. At Lake Norman High School, she is currently ranked 41
out of 489 seniors while earning a GPA of 4.5729
Courtney Price, Porter Ridge High School
Courtney has been a starter for Porter Ridge High School’s varsity softball team since her freshman. When
her coach, Lael Rorie, asked her to consider playing Catcher as a Freshman, a position she had never
played before during her school ball or travel ball career, she accepted the challenge and quickly owned
that position and excelled there for the last three years. Courtney was selected All-Conference her
Freshman, Sophomore and Junior years and All-State as a Sophomore and Junior. Courtney finished her
Junior year at PRHS with a tie for highest batting avg. of .450 with Senior teammate, Lexi Davis. She led
Union County in hits, runs, triples and stolen bases. Courtney’s play helped the Pirates to capture the 4A
State Championship. Porter Ridge finished as the #2 ranked team in the ESPN National Softball Poll.
Courtney had a remarkable 2012 travel season which ended with a .583 batting average. and an on base
percentage of .613. Courtney was 18 for 18 in stolen bases and had a 1000 fielding percentage with no
errors.
Courtney currently holds a 3.5 GPA and has enjoyed being a four year member in the TRU club at Porter
Ridge High School. Courtney will attend school and play softball at Western Carolina University next
season.
Jessica Weber, Cuthbertson High School
Jessica Weber has been on the Cuthbertson High School Varsity Softball team since her freshman year.
She has started in centerfield all four years. As a freshman Jessica hit .494 and was awarded All
Conference, All District, All State, and team MVP. As a sophomore Jessica hit .442 with a .884 slugging
percentage. Jessica was elected team captain of the varsity softball team and was awarded All Conference
again. Also during her sophomore year, Jessica was accepted onto the All-State All-Star Adidas team and
traveled to Utah to play in an All-Star tournament. The following year, Jessica hit .481 and was awarded
the Cavalier Pride award. When Jessica is not playing high school softball, she is playing with her elite
travel team, the Lady Lighting Gold 18u. When Jessica is not playing softball, she is excelling in the
classroom and is an active participant in the community. Jessica is the founder and President of the CHS
S.A.V.E (Students Against Violence Everywhere) Club. This club promotes healthy life choices and safety
habits such as not texting and driving, setting issues with words rather than violence, and healthy
relationships with family and friends. In the classroom, Jessica is an A-honor roll student with a 4.5 GPA.
Jessica has signed her National Letter of Intent to play Division 1 softball at Eastern Illinois University. She
is the daughter of Mike and Michelle Weber.

Colby Barnette, Piedmont High School
Colby will be a four year varsity starter at Piedmont High School where he was selected as All-Conference
his sophomore and junior year. Last season, Colby was named Conference Player of the Year and AllState his junior year. During Colby’s first three years, he batted an average of .377 with 103 hits, 30
doubles, 6 triples, 7 homeruns, 93 RBI’s and 71 runs scored. Colby has a 11-9 record on the mound also
with 147 K’s and a 2.70 ERA. He has been honored to be a two-time NC-State Games selection, a twotime Impact Futures Game selection (MVP 2011), a two-time South Atlantic Border Battle selection, and
selected for the Perfect Game National Showcase at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, MN. Colby has signed
a National Letter of Intent to play baseball for The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. As a senior,
Colby was named as an Outstanding Senior by the school staff. He has a GPA of 3.7 and is an A-B honor
student. Colby has participated in many volunteer programs including; tutoring students at Unionville
Elementary School, Relay for Life, Day of Caring. He is the son of Stephen and Kim Barnette.
Tanner Bigham, Northwest Cabarrus High School
Tanner is a 3 year starter at Northwest Cabarrus High School. As a freshman Tanner batted .380 with 4
home runs 18 RBIs and 7 doubles leading the Trojans all the way to the 4th round of the 3A state playoffs.
As a sophomore he hit .440 with 2 home runs, 9 doubles and 15 RBIs. Also as a sophomore Tanner was
named Perfect Game High Honorable Mention All-American. His junior year he batted .420 with 6
homeruns, 14 RBIs and 7 doubles. Also in his junior year Tanner was named to the Perfect Game MidAtlantic “Dream Team” at second base. Tanner has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to continue
his baseball career at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. He is the son of Roger and Julie
Bigham.
Alexander Bostic, Weddington High School
Alexander is a three year Varsity player for Weddington High School. It was an amazing 2012 season. As a
pitcher, Alexander had a 12-0 record with 3 saves on the mound during his junior season. He pitched 89
and 2/3 innings with 143 strikeouts and and a .092 ERA . At the plate he had his best year ever leading
Union County in homeruns and RBI’s. He batted .400 with 35 RBI’s in the Warrior 34 game season. This
included 9 homeruns, 3 triples, 8 doubles along with 15 walks and 10 hit by pitches. Alexander finished
the season with a .810 slugging percentage and 7 stolen bases. When not on the mound for Weddington,
Alexander played centerfield. Alexander helped lead the Warriors to a 3A State Championship. He received
MVP of the State Games as well as, Southern Conference Player of the Year, Weddington High School
MVP, All Region, and All State. Alexander played Showcase Baseball for the South Charlotte Panthers his
sophomore and junior year. Alexander has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to continue playing
baseball at Clemson University. He is the son of Drew and Teresa Bostic.
Logan Koch
Logan Koch plays catcher for the South Mecklenburg High School Sabres. He accepted a college baseball
scholarship and committed to the University of South Carolina before his junior year of high school.
Logan was a member of the 16U Team USA 40-man roster and participated in the team trials held in
Houston, Texas in October of 2010. Logan also participated twice in the Tournament of Stars event put
on by USA baseball and held at their National Training Complex in Cary, NC each summer. His 1.80 POP
time is one of the fastest recorded by Perfect Game in the 2013 class. In October, Logan wrapped up his
showcase career participating in the World Wood Bat Association World Championships held in Jupiter,
Florida. The event hosted the top 80 18U teams in the country. His Dirtbags team finished 5th overall and
Logan made the All-Tournament team leading the Dirtbags in hitting with a .500 average. Last year
Logan earned All-Conference honors in the SW4A leading South Mecklenburg with a .373 average. He hit
11 doubles and 1 homerun and added 21 walks to produce a .510 on base percentage. Behind the plate
Koch threw out 11 of 22 base stealers and had only 1 passed ball all season.

Kirk Morgan, Mallard Creek High School
Kirk has played varsity baseball at Mallard Creek for three years, and he has been selected to the I-Meck
All Conference Team for all three years. Kirk hit .418 as a freshman and was named the team’s Offensive
Player of the Year. As a sophomore, Kirk hit .436. At the conclusion of the season, Kirk was honored as
the Defensive Player of the Year and was chosen for the Leadership Award. To begin his junior season,
Kirk was chosen as the Maverick’s team captain. He batted .368 as a junior. Kirk completed the season
with a 2.14 ERA on the mound, striking out 42 and walking 10. His season highlight was pitching a
complete game win against the nationally ranked T.C. Roberson Rams in the third round of the state
playoffs, giving up only three hits and striking out 6 while going 3 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBIs. He was
awarded his team’s MVP award. Kirk is a member of the South Charlotte Panthers 2013 team. At the
beginning of the 2012 summer season, Kirk was named the team’s captain. He represents the first
player ever selected as a team captain in the South Charlotte Panthers organization. Kirk broke the alltime saves record and tied the RBI record for the South Charlotte Panthers. He has a 4.2 GPA, is a
member of the National Honor Society, and volunteers with the Miracle League of Charlotte. Kirk has
signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball at East Carolina University. He is the son of Scott and
Mary Beth Morgan.
Hot Stove Dinner Fast Fact # 3
The Greater Charlotte Hot Stove League Dinner 2009 High School Baseball Player of the Year Tyler Tewell
was drafted by the Atlanta Braves following his junior year at Appalachian State University. Tyler
accepted the Braves offer and began his pursuit of the big leagues last summer. Tyler played youth
league baseball at MARA and high school baseball at Butler High School.
