A poignant, emotionally riveting film by a German
director made in Poland. It tells the true story of an
8 year old boy who escapes the Warsaw Ghetto in
1942 and for three years survives on his own in Nazi
occupied Poland. The child’s struggle increasingly
reflects the Jewish people’s struggle to maintain
their identify in the face of genocide.

The rags to riches documentary of “The Last of the Red
Hot Mamas”, Sophie Tucker, who was a popular entertainer in America during the first half of the 20th century. She
ruled the worlds of vaudeville, Broadway, television and
Hollywood and was the first woman to infatuate her audiences with her bold, bawdy and brassy style unlike any

Film Showing: Bagels Over Berlin
A documentary that pays homage to the Jewish Army
Air Corp volunteers in WWII. Hear the stories of men who
served in the branch of service with the highest mortality rate
during the first years of war. Alan Feinberg, the film producer,
will introduce the film and answer questions. 60 minutes
The Jewish Film Series was co-founded by Carol N. Hirsh &
Margery Gootnickʤʿʲ in 2009. The first full film series was presented
to Chautauqua audiences in the 2010 Season. This Season’s
films were curated and previewed by Carol Hirsh & Elliot Fix. The
introductions that precede each film were written by Elliot. We
thank Carol and Elliot for all their work to make this film series
possible.

A French award winning film that portrays the true
story of 24 days in 2006 in Paris when 23 year old
Ilan Halimi was kidnapped for ransom. The brutality of the crime was deemed as an anti-Semitic hate
