Little Entrance
TROPARION Tone 4
Having learned the joyful message of the Resurrection from the angel, the women Disciples cast
from them their parental condemnation, and proudly broke the news to the Disciples, saying, Death
hath been spoiled. Christ God is risen, granting the world Great Mercy.
.
The Entrance Hymn(Eisodikon):
O come let us worship and fall down before Christ, O Son of God, who art risen from the dead,
save us who sing unto thee: Alleluia
After the Entrance we chant:
TROPARION Tone 4
Having learned the joyful message of the Resurrection from the angel, the women Disciples cast
from them their parental condemnation, and proudly broke the news to the Disciples, saying, Death
hath been spoiled. Christ God is risen, granting the world Great Mercy.
.
Troparion of St. George Tone 4
As deliver of captives and defender of the poor, healer of the infirm, champion of kings, victorius
great martyr George, intercede with Christ our God, for our souls’ salvation
Kontakion of the Theotokos for Cheesefare Sunday Tone 6
O Thou who guidest to wisdom, and givest understanding and intelligence, the Instructor of the
ignorant, and Helper of the poor, strengthen my heart and grant it understanding, O Master. Give
me word, O Word of the Father; for behold, I shall not refrain my lips from crying to thee, O
merciful One, have mercy upon me who am fallen.
.
The Trisagion
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal one, have mercy on us
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal one, have mercy on us
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal one, have mercy on us
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit: both now and ever and unto ages of ages.
Amen.
Holy Immortal one, have mercy on us.
Dynamis! (With Strength)
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal one, have mercy on us.
The Megalynarion:
It is truly meet to call thee Blessed, Lady Theotokos; Lady ever greatly blessed, and most perfect
in innocence, and the Mother of our God. Lady more precious than the Cherubim and more
glorious beyond all measure than the Seraphim. That without corruption gavest birth to God the
Word, and art truly Theotokos. We magnify thee.
The Koinonikon
Praise ye the Lord from the Heavens; praise ye Him in the highest. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
Post-Communion
We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit. We have found the true Faith.
Worshipping the undivided Trinity; for he hath saved us.
Great Dismissal
The Life of the Saints
Explusion of Adam from Paradise
As we begin the Great Fast, the Church reminds us of Adam's expulsion from Paradise. God
commanded Adam to fast (Gen. 2:16), but he did not obey. Because of their disobedience, Adam
and Eve were cast out of Eden and lost the life of blessedness, knowledge of God, and communion
with Him, for which they were created. Both they and their
descendents became heirs of death and corruption.
Let us consider the benefits of fasting, the consequences of
disobedience, and recall our fallen state. Today we are
invited to cleanse ourselves of evil through fasting and
obedience to God. Our fasting should not be a negative thing,
a
mere abstention from certain foods. It is an opportunity to
free
ourselves from the sinful desires and urges of our fallen
nature, and to nourish our souls with prayer, repentance, to
participate in church services, and partake of the life-giving
Mysteries
of
Christ.
At Forgiveness Vespers we sing: "Let us begin the time of
fasting in light, preparing ourselves for spiritual efforts. Let
us
purify our soul, let us purify our body. As we abstain from
food,
let us abstain from all passion and enjoy the virtues of the spirit…."
On this day we commemorate: Venerable-martyr Eudokia of Heliopolis; Venerable Domnina of
Syria; Martyrs Markellos & Anthony of Pamphylia; Venerable Agapios of Vatopedi monastery on
Athos; Venerable David of Wales, bishop of Menevia.
Epistle
Romans 13:11-14:4 (Cheesefare Sunday)
Sing praises to our God, sing ye: sing praises to our king, sing ye.
O clap your hands, all ye nations.
The Reading is from Saint Paul’s Letter to the Romans
BRETHREN, salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed; the night is far gone,
the day is at hand. Let us then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us
conduct ourselves becomingly as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery
and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no
provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. As for the man who is weak in faith, welcome him,
but not for disputes over opinion. One believes he may eat anything, while the weak man eats
only vegetables. Let not him who eats despise him who abstains, and let not him who abstains
pass judgment on him who eats; for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on
the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld,
for God is able to make him stand.
Gospel
Matthew 6:14-21 (Cheesefare Sunday)
The Reading of the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew
If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you; but if you do
not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. And when you
fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may
be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head
and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who sees in
secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. Do not lay up for yourselves
treasures on earth, where moths and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, but lay
up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes, and where thieves
do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Worship and Children
How can parents make participation in the Liturgy and other services meaningful for younger
children, who often fuss and distract others?
Sit up front. Help your children see what’s going on by taking a seat in the front pews near the
aisle; don’t expect children to sit still, and don’t be afraid to “take a break” if your children need
one.
Read along with children. Use the liturgy books provided in the pews, or better yet a children’s
liturgy book filled with pictures and responses. Find the epistle and gospel readings in your
Bulletin and follow the reading with them.
Sing with your children. If your children are young, encourage them to sing simple responses, like
the Alleluias or Amen. If they are older, point to the words (and music if your liturgy book
provides) and encourage them to sing along, even if they’re off-key.
Help them notice what’s going on. Call your children’s attention to the priest, icons and seasonal
colors. Point out the Little- and Great Entrance, the Consecration, and other key parts of the
service.
Help children participate. Help them to memorize common responses at home, like the litany and
the Lord’s Prayer so they can be part of the service, too.
PROPER CHURCH ETIQUETTE
Enter into His sanctuary with thanksgiving and into His Courts with praise…(Psalm 100)
We respectfully request that there be no unnecessary talking or noise during the celebration of the
Divine Liturgy.
This is the House of God and it is incumbent upon every one of us to show all due respect to the
One we have gathered to worship and for whom the Church exists.
Please make an effort to clean up after yourselves following Divine Liturgy. Do not leave bulletins
and bread in your seat or on the floor.
There are certain times during the Divine Liturgy when one should refrain from entering the
Church out of respect for God and the worship of His people. They are:
During the Trisagion Hymn
During the Epistle and Gospel readings
During the Cherubic Hymn and Great Entrance
During the Creed
During The Anaphora—(“Let us stand aright” through “Especially our all-holy Lady.”)
During Holy Communion one should remain standing throughout the distribution of the gifts.
If you have already received Holy Communion, please avail yourself of the “Prayers of Thanksgiving”
which begin on Page 128 of the red prayer book while you wait for everyone else to receive.
Thank you for your cooperation and may God bless you richly during our liturgical celebration today
and throughout the year.
THE LENTEN SEASON
Once again, we are about to start our journey through Lent, on the Road to the heavenly gates
of the Kingdom, in the Feast of Feasts: PASCHA! It is a journey that only you can take for yourself,
for the reward you receive is based solely on the effort you put into it. Therefore, we encourage you
to make the following a part of your daily and weekly experience as we continue through this Lenten
season:
DAILY PRAYER: Please remember your morning and evening prayers, including prayers for
our bishops, our clergy and their families, your Parish Council and all parishioners, the sick and
suffering, those who hate us and those who love, us, those who are kind to us and minister to us, and
all those in need of God's mercy; and especially St. Ephraim's Prayer.
THE WORD OF GOD: When you come to pray, take 10 more minutes and read the Word of
the Lord. You can start with a few chapters each day from the Gospel according to READ IT, and
ask questions on those areas you find difficult.(see next page)
THE WEEKDAY SERVICES: GOD'S GIFT OF LIFE TO YOU!
1) Great Compline, Monday evenings, 6:30PM; Arabic Great Compline, Tuesday evenings,
6:30PM, a uniquely peaceful time of prayers.
2) Pre-sanctified Liturgy, Wednesday evenings, 6:30PM for strength at mid-week
(Fasting begins after the noon meal).
3) Akathist (Madayeh), Friday evenings, 6:30PM supplication to the Virgin Mary,
followed by our Lenten Supper.
4) Great Vespers, Saturday evening, 5:30PM, in preparation for
5) Divine Liturgy of St. Basil, Sunday morning, 10:30AM.
6) For other Services and the Holy Week Services (Please see schedule on the Church
Calendar).
THE SACRAMENT OF CONFESSION: Repentance is the door to salvation. Without it,
we remain a lost sheep, and lose all hope of tasting the Fountain of Life; but with it we find the Door
of Paradise, and the angels and the saints at the eternal Banquet Feast of the Lord. During Lent
confessions will be heard before evening services though Holy Friday evening, or Sunday Morning
before Liturgy starts and by appointment.
CHARITY AND GOOD WORKS: Basically, this is LOVING one another, with the same
kind of Love Jesus showed us. (Read 1 Corinthians 13, James and 1John.)
As part of our Lenten offerings, let us please be generous to the Food for Hungry People Program.
Boxes should be returned to the church by Palm Sunday, April 12th.
FASTING: a necessary ingredient to this season. Please try to abstain this season from at least any
meat and more desirable any dairy products, and gain control over your earthly passions. Then, share
what you didn't eat with those who have nothing. Remember to "feed" your Food for Hungry Box
each day with your children, and teach them how to care for the poor.

Antiochian Women’s Month
Address to be given on the First Sunday of March 2009 to the Parish
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
With the Blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan PHILIP, March has been designated as Antiochian Women’s Month.
During the month you will have the opportunity to see the women in more active roles in the Church, such as greeting,
reading the Epistle, taking the collection, speaking to you about how our organization began, and the role of Antiochian
Women in our parish, diocese and Archdiocese, and about as our new project, Children with Special Needs.
In 1972, Metropolitan PHILIP stated that, “Women have a definite ministry in the life of the church. Very often we have the
tendency to confine women’s role to the kitchen. Both the Old and New Testament testify beyond doubt to the important
role which women played in the history of salvation. Time does not permit me to speak in detail about Ruth, Sarah, Rebecca,
Rachel, the Virgin Mary, the Ointment Bearers, the Deaconesses and many others who ministered to the Church and Christ.
I propose, therefore, that a National Sisterhood of Charity be organized in the Archdiocese.”
The need for a “National Sisterhood” of Women in the Antiochian Archdiocese was explored and in 1973 the foundation of
the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Women of North America, now known as Antiochian Women, was formed.
Like other organizations of the Antiochian Archdiocese, the Antiochian Women have member chapters at the local parish
level. Diocesan leaders are elected by delegates from the local member chapters, and leaders on the North American Board
(NAB), are elected by diocesan delegates at the Antiochian Women’s meeting, which coincides with the Archdiocese
Convention. At both the diocesan level and the North American Board, there are Religious, Membership, Humanitarian, and
Project Coordinators who are appointed by the newly elected President.
Antiochian Women have committed themselves to serve Christ through serving others, especially to those who are in need of
our help and support. The strength of our organization begins at the parish level. The local chapters of the Antiochian
Women are the backbone to the success of all of our projects which have been undertaken. The parishes of our Archdiocese
are comprised of seven dioceses, which come together to work under the direction of the North American Board.
Each year, the Antiochian Women are given a challenge to raise funds for our project. This is spearheaded by the NAB
Project Coordinator and her Committee. Over two million, two hundred thousand dollars have been raised to date in support
of these special projects, such as Antiochian Village, Married Seminarians, St. George Hospital in Beirut, Missions,
Orphanages, Retired Clergy Housing Fund, and many others.
This year, our Project “Children with Special Needs” deserves our undivided attention. We have all been touched by a child
with special needs, whether within our own families, our church family, our friends or in the community in which we live.
Children born with disabilities, such as: Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, to name only a
few, need our help. Their needs are many. We see first hand the effect on the child’s loved ones; the patience and hard work
required, the countless hours spent, filled with love, in caring and supporting their special needs child.
This year, Metropolitan PHILIP has asked that our Project proceeds go to Al Kafaat in Beirut, Lebanon, a non-governmental
organization that provides medical and rehabilitation services to children and adults with disabilities, and vocational,
educational, and employment services to youth and adults with social and financial challenges. The organization delivers its
services to a daily population of 4,500 beneficiaries in seven different centers in Lebanon.
Founded in 1957, Al-Kafaat is acknowledged by law as an “institution of Public Welfare”. The non-profit organization
reaches out to those with severe disabilities who, are otherwise secluded and alienated from society. Unfortunately,
government funding in Lebanon is nearly non-existent.
Please join Antiochian Women in supporting this worthy cause and continue to pray for the beautiful children of God with
special needs. With faith and love in your hearts, and a determination to reach our goal of $150,000, please help give these
children a better life.

From the Sunday School Office
The Sunday School event for the Shut-Ins was a great success.
Many thanks to the parents who brought their children and helped us make our meal of meatloaf,
potatoes and green beans.
The meals were then delivered along with a card, bookmark and icon to some of our shut-in.
Thank you again to all who participated.
