The blue Chevelle was my aunt and uncles. I
fell in love with the car the first time I saw it
and I asked my aunt to not sell it without giving me a chance to buy it first.
That was in 1969-70. My thoughts then were to
“soup-up” this basic model into a
sleeper….ahhh youth.

Message from the Admin
Now that it’s officially spring many of us can start thinking about seeing if what’s under the
car cover is the same as what we remember. Those of you who have been working on your
project all winter will certainly be feeling the excitement of the pending cruise season. We are
only a few weeks away from the first biggy of the year, The Peach State Show May 1-2.
I hope the members are enjoying the fresh look of the new members area. That was a project
that felt as good to finish as dropping in a new engine. Navigation is much improved and
more importantly it is easy for us to expand on, and plans are underway for even more member features.

This month’s newsletter has some new products being mentioned. The console inserts below
and the Muscle Tones print. Members may recall the discussion earlier this year about using
images from our site for such a venture. I’m happy to report that there has been a positive
resolution to that thanks to Eddie, Chuck Hanson, myself, some fellow Team Members and
Chevelle Clubs. Eddie is offering Team Chevelle discounts on this new poster. He is still
working on their website so we will update everyone on the progress. All working together
for the benefit of our hobby makes us an unstoppable force…. Al
Console Inserts
From the Tech Forums: Justin [email protected]
Justin had to replace the console inserts in his 70 because they were all dinged up, but instead of buying stock replacement ones,
he had some made up with "SS 454" on the forward insert. They are real brushed aluminum and are more durable than the stock
replacements. If anyone would like a set for themselves, let Justin know. He is using the solid "SS 454" ones on his console but
he does have a plain set, and the outlined "SS 454" set ready. If you want a set with "SS 396" or "SS 502" or any other engine
size, that can be done as well. Prices are below:
Plain: $17 + shipping
Solid and outline "SS 454": $20 + shipping
Solid and outline w/other engine size: $22 + shipping
Discussion is in the Tech Forums
For anyone who has swapped a 5 speed in their Chevelle, Justin has some news that might
interest you. He recently swapped a Tremec into my 70 and became tired of looking at the
stock 4 speed shift pattern on the console. So he is having some 5 speed shift pattern inserts
made that are the exact same size as the original insert, and follow the same layout as the 4
speed pattern, but with one more gear added.
Should take approx a week to make.
I'm going to be selling them for $15 + $2 shipping.

Chevrolet A-Body Production Totals print
Dan Carr is a long time contributor to Team Chevelle and is offering team members
FREE SHIPPING on this first class print.
After years of research, some light is finally being shed on the mysteries of Chevrolet
A-body production totals. Daniel Carr has designed a print showing detailed production tables for all Chevelle models including 2-door sedans, 2-door coupes, 2-door convertibles, 4door sedans, station wagons, and sedan pickups. Included are detailed production totals for
the Chevelle’s cousin - the Monte Carlo, as well as the El Camino’s cousin - the GMC
Sprint. Data on US-built and Canadian-built cars is also presented.
The print also shows images of 25 selected vehicles in vivid color. Anyone who appreciates
these cars will find it to be a very impressive "work of art" for display in any office, den, or
garage. It is printed on heavy 80# paper stock, and has the look and feel of fine art prints. At
42 by 32 inches, it is very large. The large size was necessary for displaying all the relevant
information. A person could literally spend hours pouring over all the details presented.
Every piece of available information was utilized to compile the data, including model totals, option totals, and engine totals. Production totals are given for every model and engine
combination. And on big blocks, the production totals are even broken down by manual and
automatic transmissions for every model. Where there is missing data, the holes have been
filled in using statistical techniques (interpolation) to generate unbiased estimates. The data
charts are color coded, so it is obvious which totals are estimates, and which totals are derived directly from Chevrolet reports.
1968—1972
The most comprehensive
reference ever compiled on
production totals for the
1968-1972 Chevrolet intermediate series cars
The 25 vehicles pictured
on the print cover a wide
variety of models, including many of the rarest and
most desirable versions.
The often-asked questions, such as "how many 1969 Chevelle SS-396 4-speed convertibles
did they build", have finally been answered with some degree of confidence. It is interesting
to see that many well-known models may not be quite as rare as previously thought, while
many lesser-known varieties are indeed very unusual.

A bit of background:
The blue Chevelle was my aunt and uncles. I fell in love with the car the first time I saw it and I asked my aunt to not sell
it without giving me a chance to buy it first. That was in 1969-70. My thoughts then were to “soup-up” this basic model into a
sleeper….ahhh youth. Years passed and in early 1990’s she
decided to stop driving and sell the car. A deal was struck and
I flew to California and drove the car back to Illinois. What an
adventure! It is a California Car with just a few over 50,000
actual miles on it. My aunt had the car repainted at some point
since it had faded from the effects of the sun. The original twotone color scheme was arctic white over azure turquoise. Due
to this color scheme it has the trim molding for a vinyl top. It is a 250 cu 6 with a TH 350 automatic transmission. I plan to
restore it to the original colors and it needs some upholstery work done to bring it back to full glory.
Since I now owned a low mileage basic model Malibu, and I was older and wiser (?), I decided no to “molest” it. I had
some changes in my life that led me to want to make that “car from my youth” so I started looking for a ’67 or ’69 Chevelle.
As luck would have it, a 69 Malibu turned up within 60 miles. It had been repainted from green to yellow, and had been a 6 cyl
car, now sporting a 350 cu. in. and TH350. Hmmmm the foundation for a mild and wild pair of Malibu’s?
Then I began (with the help from a couple of young guns, Jason and Mike who ran a body shop and were redoing my ’76
GMC pickup) to gather the parts to build a peppy 427. Yes, a COPO clone with the tag “NOT COPO.” Anyway, once the engine was completed and the mechanical/safety issues were addressed on the chassis (i.e. front disc brakes installed) etc . off to
the track to see what was what.

The best we could seem to do was 13.2’s but not too bad for a street-able car
with a 2.?? rear end ratio.
The car met it’s end with a sudden stop into a low-boy semi -trailer, but the
engine survived! Shoot, I hadn’t even gotten it painted! Sigh! But, on to the
next incarnation.
Since the engine had survived and I had this ready made parts car, I once again
began looking for a ’69 for the wilder
part. I found an ad for a ’69 SS in southern Indiana. Went to look and ultimately
bought the car. It was painted dark gray and had a 402 in it, M21 and a 12 bolt 4.10
rear, along with a dented right front fender. (I had one of these from the yellow car!!)
The (second) owner sent along the original block etc. which I have stored currently. The
427 went to the shop to clean the bores etc. and returned a 433. The body went to Vic’s
Body Shop for repairs and repaint to original cortez silver color. By the way, Vic has quite a collection of El Camino’s in various stages, and the Chevelle he had when he got married. Hence, he is a fan of the model. Since this was a winter project, and
there are successes and pitfalls (I had to redo the engine yet again due to a nasty argument between a cam lobe and lifter that I
had set TOO tight) it seemed to take forever. I was down more than driving for about a year. Mike Hurta (Aug98 feature car)
offered suggestions on the internals of the engine and so the third version was finished
and installed about the time the body was ready to reassemble and paint. With all this
“downtime” I selected the handle DT69SS for the chat (DT for downtime). The car’s
interior was given new carpet and recovered seats but as many original parts (doorcards etc..) were used as possible. Also a new vinyl top was installed. The bumpers are
due to go for re-chroming sometime in the future. There is always something to be
done in a “restification” project. Modifications I’ve done such as different dash with
cd, driveshaft loop and dual disc clutch with/scattershield (gotta have”em), Art M.
hop-stop bars (what a difference), can all be undone when/if the car goes back to stock
configuration. Does a project car ever really get finished??

Back in September 2003 I decided to do what I could not afford to do when I did the frame-off beginning in 1998.I decided to
have my car painted back to the original color which is Tropic Turquoise paint code L. Prior to September 2003 the car was
painted with Dupont Emron Metallic Green back in September 1981. I am almost ashamed to tell this but there had been a
small bubble if you will next to the rain rail area, I always wanted to see what was under the paint. Since I was going to have
the car painted anyway I took a single
edge razor blade and removed the bubble and about four inches of paint along
with it, to make a long story short I
stripped the entire car with NAPA single
edge razor blades, the paint just came
off in sheets and I had a ball.
In order to save money I removed the
front clip, doors, trunk deck and all the
interior that I had just installed in 2000.
Removed all the paint from the door
jams and around the trunk seal area and
the tail light areas with a wire brush on a
drill.
I gave the car to my painter in September 03 and got it back in March 04. The car was painted with Sikkens Base Coat/Clear
Coat and really turned out nice. I did real well with it at car shows this past summer and received many nice compliments. I
am happy to have it back to the proper color.

In August 04 a friend of mine who is converting a 67 SS drag car in a nice streetable ride, informed me of a 66 396 /325
H.P. Engine located about 2 miles from my house. I have always some what wanted a BB so a month later I purchased the engine. The best we can determine is that the engine sat for 15 years, when I pulled a valve cover at the guys garage there were
two push rods through two rocker arms. We also believe this was the saving grace for the engine, someone said that's it and
parked it most likely way back when.
The engine, bellhousing, transmission were all still assemble on the floor at this guys garage. He let me bring my MorTec
Info and do all the researching I wanted to. This individual was nice enough to give the original title from the 66 SS car that this
engine came out of, the last six numbers of the vin and engine serial numbers match also. It turned out that this was a truly 1966
completely numbers matching set up including a Muncie shifter. All the dates for the engine, bellhousing, M-20 were from May
66. The only two items missing were the alternator and carburetor. The cast iron exhaust manifolds were in perfect shape and I
do not know how but the original starter survived along with the water pump and distributor. It turns out it also has a steel crank
in it. I took it to a local father/son machine shop and they went through it good. They ended up going .030 over and cleaned the
crank up at .010. I requested that I wanted this engine to hit a good lick so we agreed to install a Com Cam Grind # CB 276AH
-10 and it really sounds good. I decided to leave the heads stock since I do not plan on drag racing. Had this engine been anything other than a 66 I would not went this route. Going from a SB to a BB was a experience for sure.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many nice people on T/C the gave me with both technical and moral support. Believe me there were times when I wanted to back out and walk away. Many thanks folks.

Tired of the roll?
It only takes a glance to know there is going to be big changes in the handling! Note the
huge Hotchkis bar compared to the original equipment bar.
If it is roll reduction and handling improvement you wish to help, you may get away with
just a front bar. It is pretty easy and economical to replace. When you add the rear bar, you
must have suitable trailing arms. I will cover this later.
The instructions included with the bar are pretty basic, suitable for the simple job.
1.
Look carefully at the current installation.
2.
This installation can be performed without removing the front wheels. Always use proper
safety devices such as jack stands or lift jacks to properly support the vehicle.
3.
Remove the factory end link from the car.
4.
Support or hold the center of the bar and carefully remove front bushing bolts.
5.
Remove factory bar from vehicle, taking note of the placement of the sway bar bushings.
6.
Using the included white silicone grease, grease the inside of the urethane 1 7/16" in sway bar
bushings. (The silicone grease can be cleaned up with WD40.)
7.
Install the urethane bushings on the bar. Make sure you position the bushing so when the bar
is installed in the vehicle, the split will face the front of the car.
8.
Place the bushing's bracket over top the bushing.
9.
Install the new parts on to the car using the included Cap Screws on the new brackets. This
step will take some manipulating, as the original car was designed for a very small sway bar.
You will need a 1/4" or a 6 mm Allen Driver socket for this. Our socket set is a much larger
diameter than stock bar, and our Heavy Duty sway bar bushings and brackets are larger as
well. You might find it easier to slightly squeeze the brackets together in a vice to allow you
to better align the bracket holes with the original factory holes. Using a ratchet or air impact,
install the screws with a washer under each head. This does work very well, you just need to
use some torque to install these bolts. Have patience with this step.
10. Install the new A-Arm end links using a ratchet and wrench.
11. Tighten end link nut to the point where the end link bushing's diameter is just larger than it's
support washer.
Continued on Next Page
Team Chevelle— Online Performance
Page: 12
The bar that was coming out probably could have done a better
job if the bushings on the end link had been replaced and tightened!
Align the bushings and brackets at the exact width of the original
one before starting.
Start the rear bolt first. I found that by using a tie to hold the poly
bushing in the bracket and squeezing the whole assembly with a
set of vise grips the bolt started reasonably easily. Be careful not
to cross thread them!
If you can't get an Allen wrench into the head or the bolt, use a set
of pointed vise grips or pliers to turn the bolts in two or three
threads to be sure they are well started.
You will probably have to clamp the end link bolt up and pry the
bar down a bit to get the nut started. Compare this bar to the original in the first picture!

Q. What is my personal showroom address?
•
A. If you have uploaded pictures to the showroom, your website will be located at "http://www.chevelles.com/
showroom/yourname/" Yourname refers to the username you use to login to the showroom and is CaSE senSitive. The program will create a webpage called index.shtml which will be automatically loaded whenever someone
visits your address. This page will be constantly updated to display all the files in your 'showroom'. For example, if
your username was "test", then your new Showroom website would be: "www.chevelles.com/showroom/test/"
•
Q. How do I upload a picture to the Showroom?
•
A. From the Showroom Index (www.chevelles.com/showroom/), click on "Members Personal Showroom Management." Login (username and password), click on the "browse..." button. Find the file you wish to upload from
your computer, then click "Open" from the dialog box (the file will then appear in one of the blank white spaces). If
you don't see the file, your browser may be trying to find HTML files, simply click that box and show 'All files" *.*
Click on "Upload Files" (grey button). Wait a moment until you see the "successful upload: [your pic name]" message. Your picture(s) have now been uploaded to your showroom. When you upload the file, be sure it has the correct extension on the end: eg.jpg Make a mistake? No problem, just delete the file from your showroom and try
again.
•
Q. How do I delete a file/image from my showroom?
•
A. Click on the "Manage your showroom account" link (under the Members Personal Showroom Management).
Click on the "Manage" link (left underneath the Browse/Upload dialog box). All your showroom files will then appear
in alphabetical order (or chronological if you choose to sort the files that way - link at the top). Click the little white
box next to the file you wish to remove (a checkmark will now appear). Then click on "Delete Selected Files" button.
A warning message will appear confirming your decision to delete the file - click OK if you are SURE you wish to
proceed. Wait a moment. A message will then appear "Selected files successfully deleted." Your picture has now
been removed.
•
Q. Any tips?
•
A. Sure! Web servers hate spaces. Try not to upload your pictures with a name like 1967 chevelle in garage.jpg. Instead open your file manager, find the images you want to upload, right click on each and name them
something like:1967-in-garage.jpg.jpg is the preferred format. .gif files are typically much larger and are not as good
for full color images..jpg, .jpeg, .gif and .txt files can be uploaded.
•
Q. How do I add a picture to my signature in Chevelle Tech?

A. Ok, here is a step by step. The name of the file on the showroom webpage and the name of the file you receive via email is the same and can be found either by visiting your showroom or adding it to the 'base' address for
your directory, like this:Your username: Al filename: alschevelle.jpgimage would be at: http://www.chevelles.com/
showroom/Al/alschevelle.jpg
It's easiest to go to your showroom webpage and do the following:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Right click on the image you wish to use and choose 'copy shortcut'.
Open your tech account: http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=my_profile
Enter your tech username and password.
In the signature area, put the following:
enter description here
hint, highlight the part that says: paste address here then right click on your mouse and choose paste. This
'should' paste the link from your showroom picture into the signature file.
Now change: enter description here to your description.
That's it. Click save and exit. Just remember when you post to check the box that says: Include Signature, we do
not include them by default as they are not always necessary.
Basically it should look like:
