thick timber, open grasslands and
pine groves that take 4-wheelers
and dirtbikers on a wild and scenic
ride through a surprising landscape.

that give aggressive riders a chance
to show their skills, the mud, dirt,
rocks and ridges of The Alleghenies

ATV/Dirt Biking
Know the rules
before you ride.
• It is illegal to operate an ATV without a securely
fastened helmet.
• Riders must obey the posted speed limits. If there
is no speed limit posted in designated riding
areas, riders must not ride in excess of 25 miles
per hour.
• Riding is allowed only on designated and posted
roads, trails, or other areas.
• All Pennsylvania ATV’s must be registered with
the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation
and Natural Resources (DCNR).
• This is the signage DCNR
uses to designate an ATV area.
• ATV’s owned by nonresidents must be covered
by a valid registration in their state, province or
country that honors Pennsylvania registration.

Riding on designated State Forest trails is permitted:
•S
tarting the Friday before Memorial Day
through the last full weekend in September and…
• Starting the day after the last day of antlerless deer
season (regular or extended) through April 1st.
Check specific sites as certain locations may have
alternate seasons.

• Operating any motorized vehicle on state
forest without a fully functioning spark arrestor
is prohibited
• Parking any off-road vehicle where it will
obstruct a gate, road, trail, footpath, bicycle path,
access way, drinking fountain, entrance, exit, or
road turnaround on state forest is prohibited.
For 4-wheelers and dirtbikers, The Alleghenies provides miles of trails for riders
of all levels — including the green, blue and black trails of the 6,000 acre Rock
Run Recreation Area. So whether you’re out for a day of easy riding or looking to
sling some mud, the trails of The Alleghenies are waiting.
