Safe and environmentally sound operating services
begin with a proactive approach that identifies safety
or environmental risks.
Cannon Sline Industrial and the members of the K2
Environmental, Safety & Health Alliance are strongly
committed to the Safety and Health of all our employees, and to the protection of the Environment.
To fulfill that commitment, every employee must take
personal responsibility for safety, health, and environmental issues. these must be considered with regard
to coworkers, clients, the public, and others as an
integral part of every work activity. It is the goal of this
organzation to foster a culture that instills a sense of
pride and duty to protect the health and welfare of
everyone we associate with, during the course of our
business endeavors.
To that end, two valuable tools in our ESH Program
that must be used continuously to protect our employees at all times.
1) The Job Hazard & Risk Analysis (JHRA), must be
used to identify the work steps, the hazards, and the
methods to control or eliminated the hazards. Therefore, the Job Hazard & Risk Analysis is a “Mandatory” rool in our work, and should be viewed by Line
Management as the cornerstone for building a strong
safety culture!
2) The KARRS Program (K2 Audit Risk Rating System), must be used as the key observation tool of
the organization, to continously evaluate the level of
risk our work presents, and confirm safe behaviors
and conditions. These two Programs must be embraced at all levels of the Organization to proactively
identify hazards, evaluate risk in our daily work. “Key
ESH Performance Indicators” in the Organization will
be measured by the KARRS Program metrics. All
employees will be held accountable for working safely
within established KARRS risk tolerance levels.

ISNetWorld At a Glance
For over 88 years Cannon Sline’s core business has
been to provide complete painting, specialized coatings / linings and related services to their industrial
customers on a national basis. Their focused skills
specialties are coatings and corrosive control disciplines that require a high degree of technical expertise and execution experience.
COMPANY PROFILE
Born in the nuclear age, Cannon Sline’s Quality
Assurance Program has been and is a leader in the
most stringent of protective coating arenas. They
have long known that one of the fundamental duties
of management is to assure that our services meet
requirements.
Cannon Sline’s Management understands the cost
of quality deviations (rework) and has said many
times “unquestionably the first step of productivity is
Quality”. Cannon Sline knows well the cost of quality.
Their pro-active management has chosen the path
of prevention and appraisal over that of correction of
deviations.
HEALTH, SAFETY, AND THE ENVIRONMENT
Cannon Sline can give over two million reasons
(safety incentive awards) why their safety program
has been successful during the past six years. Their
innovative practice of enticing supervisors and craftsmen for successful job-site safety performance has
sent an important message to our people and to the
Coatings
300%, and their stand alone experience modification rate to well below 1.0. Cannon Sline is proud of
their safety improvement process. The continuous
safety process ends and begins each year with their
annual Loss Control Seminar. This seminar is held in
January when all Cannon Sline field supervisors are
brought from across the United States to a central
location to experience three intense days of safety
training. The seminar begins on Thursday morning
and some of the topics covered include basic safety
practices, respiratory protection training, confined
space training, hazardous material handling, hazardous communication training, first aid training Right
to Know training, and lead and arsenic abatement
training.
CANNON’S USE OF ISNetworld
Since 2006, Cannon has utilized ISNetworld to report their health and safety information to various ISNetworld Owner Clients. “Being a previous customer
has made it an easy transition from strictly using the
program for pipeline training requirements to completin the SCQ-V and submitting our programs for the
RAVS review. The RAVS team is knowledgeable and
very helpful, as well as the ISNetworld group,” Cecile
Vezinat. Cannon’s relationship with ISNetworld came
as a result of ISNetworld’s recent expansion into new
markets – Bio-Technology (Biotech). Cannon is currently subscribed at the request of one ISNetworld
Owner Client; however, as more Biotech Owner
Clients begin utilizing ISNetworld, Cannon’s subscription can serve as an advertising tool for future
Owner Clients.
INDUSTRY: Cannon Sline is Serious About Safety!
The results have been phenomenal. During the past
three years they have cut their incurred losses over

False Ceiling
Building repair and replacement projects above production equipment and operations personnel are
possible without interrupting the production process. Excessive “down time” of the production process can be eliminated by the installation of a false ceiling or temporary subfloor, above the operating equipment while it is in operation. this “isolation barrier” functions as a safe work platform offering
easy access for workmen and maintenance repair of equipment in the work area.
ERECTION OF THE FALSE CEILING
■
■
Install temporary work platform on overhead
“traveling bridge crane”
Install aluminum interlocking panels and/or
an aluminum I-Beam plywood deck system
“on the run”
■
■
Seal entire work platform area utilizing fire
retardant reinforced polyethylene tars
Construct temporary end walls, seal all
opening to provide a controlled work space
guaranteeing an air tight enclosure system.
After erection and sealing of the work enclosure and protection of adjacent surfaces and equipment,
it is now possible to perform virtually any type of construction, maintenance or refurbishment work
without the interruption of on-going plant operations.
