Biotechnologie in der Hauptstadtregion
Berlin-Brandenburg zählt in Europa zu den führenden Standorten der Biotechnologie.
25 namhafte Forschungseinrichtungen mit lebenswissenschaftlicher Ausrichtung, fast 200
Biotech-Unternehmen und über 20 Pharmafirmen forschen hier und entwickeln in engem
und produktivem Austausch neue Produkte. BioTOP begleitet die Entwicklung des Clusters
seit fast 15 Jahren. In unserem jährlichen Report blicken wir auf wichtige Fortschritte im
letzten Jahr zurück und bieten einen Überblick über die Branche.
Besonders bemerkenswert in 2009 war die Etablierung neuer Plattformen im
Bereich der In-Vitro Diagnostik. Im Mai wurde das Zentrum für Molekulare Diagnostik und Bioanalytik (ZMDB) als Leitprojekt der gemeinsamen Innovationsstrategie
Berlin-Brandenburg ins Leben gerufen. Als unabhängige Technologietransferplattform, die allen Akteuren im Feld offensteht, ist das ZMDB eine einzigartige Einrichtung, die Grundlagenforschung, klinische Forschung und industrielle Anwendung
verbindet. Neben dem ZMDB wurde auch zwei große F&E-Plattformen mit insgesamt 16 Projekten und 34 Millionen Euro Projektvolumen für die nächsten 5 Jahre
etabliert: Die Technologieplattform TERA-Diagnostik widmet sich der Entwicklung
von Biosensorsystemen in Verbindung mit Terahertztechnologien zur Signalübermittlung. Das Ziel des Impulszentrums für Integrierte Bioanalytik ist die Integration
aller analytischen Prozessschritte auf der molekularen Ebene und die Entwicklung
eines „Taschentuchlabors“.
Auch für einige der Firmen, die Arzneimittel entwickeln, war 2009 ein wichtiges
Jahr. Eine Reihe neuartiger Therapien wurden erstmals in klinischen Studien erprobt.
MOLOGEN schloss die Phase 1 Studie mit seinem Immunmodulator zur Krebs

behandlung mit ausgezeichneten Resultaten ab, Silence Therapeutics begann mit
der weltweit ersten Studie, bei der siRNA systemisch verabreicht wird, ebenfalls
zur Behandlung von Krebs, NOXXON brachte weltweit erstmals ein Molekül aus der
Klasse der Spiegelmere in den Menschen, und Glycotope trat mit seinen glykooptimierten Antikörpern in die klinische Entwicklung ein. Vier sehr viel versprechende
Ansätze, die – in Berlin entwickelt – hoffentlich die zukünftige Medizin mitprägen
werden.
BioTOP ist stolz, diese Entwicklung als zentrale Koordinationsstelle für alle Belange
der Biotechnologie in der Hauptstadtregion zu unterstützen. Auf Basis unserer

Exzellente Forschungslandschaft
Die außergewöhnliche Forschungs-Gemeinschaft bleibt eine starke treibende Kraft in der
Entwicklung der Region Berlin-Brandenburg als Biotech-Standort. Etwa die Hälfte der etwa
195 Biotech-Firmen in der Region haben ihren Ursprung in Universitäten und anderen
akademischen Institutionen. Neben anderen wichtigen Entwicklungen wurden in 2009
wichtige neue Projektverbünde im Bereich der in-vitro-Diagnostika etabliert. Der ersten
World Health Summit fand in Berlin statt, und zum ersten Mal erhielt ein europäisches
Team die internationale Auszeichnung für die Entwicklung des „Molecule of the Year“.
Impulszentrum für Integrierte Bioanalytik (IZIB)
Das neue Impulszentrum für Integrierte Bioanalytik (IZIB) ist ein
gemeinsames Projekt unter der Federführung des Fraunhofer IBMT
und der Universität Potsdam mit 14 Partnern, darunter Firmen
aus der Region, die Teil des DiagnostikNet-BB sind. Es war ein
Preisträger des Wettbewerbs „Spitzenforschung und Innovation
für die Neuen Bundesländern“ des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) im Rahmen der Initiative „Unternehmen Region“ und wird bis Herbst 2014 Fördermittel in Höhe
von 14.000.000 € erhalten. Die Unternehmen in das Projekt eingebunden werden insgesamt 1.300.000 € aus eigenen Mitteln

World Health Summit
»
Die Charité hat mit Unterstützung der Bundesregierung und der Französischen Regierung und in enger Partnerschaft mit der Université Paris Descartes begonnen, in Anlehnung an die G8, die M8-Allianz aufzubauen.
Das ist eine Gruppe von 8 führenden medizinisch-wissenschaftlichen Zentren aus Deutschland, Frankreich, den
USA, Großbritannien, Russland, Japan, Australien und China sowie dem Inter Academy Medical Panel (IAMP),
der 65 nationale Akademien repräsentiert, und der Association of Academic Health Centers (AAHC), deren Ziel
es ist, das Thema Gesundheit auf die globale politische Agenda zu bringen. Die zentrale Aktivität der M8 ist der
jährlich stattfindende World Health Summit (WHS), der in 2009 gleichzeitig den Auftakt des Jubiläumsjahrs zum
300-jährigen Bestehen der Charité darstellte. Das passte natürlich wunderbar, denn der WHS folgt gewissermaßen dem Virchowschen Diktum „Die Medizin ist eine soziale Wissenschaft, und die Politik ist weiter nichts als
Medizin im Großen.“ Diese umfassende Sicht von Medizin kann meiner Meinung nach am besten von Academic
Health Centers wie der Charité getragen werden, die selbst alle Bereiche abdecken, in der Forschung ganz vorne
dabei und gleichzeitig unabhängig von Lobbygruppen sind. An der großen Resonanz, die wir mit diesem Konzept
bei Spitzenleuten ausgelöst haben, sehen wir, dass es für diesen Vorstoß einen klaren Bedarf gibt.
Internationale Führungskräfte aus Politik, Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft sind in Berlin zusammengekommen, um dringende Aspekte
der globalen Gesundheit zu diskutieren. Der World Health Summit
war auch die erste Veranstaltung im Jahr der Feierlichkeiten zum
300. Jahrestag der Charité im Jahr 2010. Themen auf dem Gipfel

Die ultimative Integration der Bioanalytik ist die unmittelbare molekulare Verknüpfung
einer Erkennungsreaktion mit der Signalgenerierung. Auf weitere transduktorische Schritte
oder Geräte kann dann verzichtet werden. Dieser Grundgedanke führt zur Entwicklung von
Sensor-Aktor-Molekülen und bildet die Basis des Impulszentrums für integrierte Bioanalytik,
einer Initiative von 14 Einrichtungen mit Schwerpunkt im Wissenschaftspark Potsdam-Golm.
Die Integration solcher sensorischer Moleküle in Gegenstände des Alltags kann uns unmittelbar

Aufgrund der hohen Konzentration an ausgezeichneten
Universitäten verfügt Berlin über herausragende Kompetenz in Forschung und Wissenschaft. Besonders in den Lebenswissenschaften verzeichnen wir in den letzten Jahren eine
ständig wachsende Zahl an Patentanmeldungen. Diese Tatsache verweist auf ein enormes Potenzial, das noch nicht voll
ausgeschöpft ist. Die meisten dieser Erfindungen stammen aus

Der Klimawandel und die Intensivierung der landwirtschaftlichen Produktion haben bereits
jetzt weltweit zu erheblichen Beeinträchtigungen der Bodenfruchtbarkeit geführt. Biokohle
könnte zur Rekultivierung fruchtbarer Böden eingesetzt werden, da sie beispielsweise die Funktion von natürlichem Humus übernehmen und so die Sorptionsfähigkeit des Bodens für Nährstoffe und Wasser nachhaltig erhöhen kann. Unser Projekt APECS (Anaerobe Konversion von Biomassen zu hochwertigen Energieträgern und Kohlenstoffsenken) hat zum Ziel, unter Wahrung
regionaler Stoffkreisläufe die Landwirtschaft als echte Kohlenstoff-Senke zu etablieren.

von jährlichen Gipfeltreffen.
Molekül des Jahres 2009
Das springende Gen (Transposon) „Dornröschen“ ist Molekül des
Jahres 2009. Das Transposon haben Dr. Zsuzsanna Izsvák, Dr.
Zoltán Ivics und Dr. Lajos Mátés vom Max-Delbrück-Centrum für
Molekulare Medizin (MDC) Berlin-Buch entwickelt. Eine internationale Jury hatte es aus 15 Molekülen ausgewählt, weil es „sehr
vielversprechend für den Einsatz in der Gentherapie“ sei. Damit
hat erstmals ein Labor außerhalb der USA diese Auszeichnung

Our hyperactive Sleeping Beauty is safer, easier, and cheaper than any other method before. Currently, scientists use disarmed viruses or a variety of
non-virus based methods to get genes into cells. However, these methods are
either too dangerous or too inefficient for broad application in gene therapy.
The new transposon system is able to introduce genes into cells and to stably
insert them into the cell’s genome at an efficiency comparable to that of viral
strategies. Gene therapy strategies using Sleeping Beauty-based vector systems
could reduce the risk of insertional mutagenesis and immunogeneticity problems imposed by viral vectors. Even after a year, the genes were still active.

was bis dahin nicht möglich war, da man nicht über die entsprechenden Transposontechniken verfügte. Die effizient war allerdings in machen Zellen, etwa Stammzellen, begrenzt. Die Forscher lösten das Problem, indem sie das Genom von dornröschen
geringfügig modifizierten, was zu einer Verhundertfachung der
Aktivität führte. Die MDC-Wissenschaftler hoffen, dass ihr neues Tool zur Standardmethode für die Einschleusung von Genen
in Zellen wird. Den Titel „Molekül des Jahres“ vergibt seit 2002
die im Jahre 2000 gegründete wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft
ISMCBBPR. Davor hatte das Wissenschaftsmagazin Science diesen
Titel vergeben.

Neue Plattformen für Diagnostik F&E
Berlin-Brandenburg zeichnet sich durch breite Expertise im Bereich Bioanalytik und
In-Vitro-Diagnostik aus. Im Mai wurde das Zentrum für Molekulare Diagnostik und Bioanalytik (ZMDB) als Leitprojekt der gemeinsamen Innovationsstrategie Berlin-Brandenburg ins Leben gerufen. Als unabhängige Technologietransferplattform, die allen Akteuren
im Feld offensteht, ist das ZMDB eine einzigartige Einrichtung, die Grundlagenforschung,
klinische Forschung und industrielle Anwendung verbindet. Die Indikationsschwerpunkte
sind Krebs, Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen, Infektionen und Immunologie.
2009 brachte einen enormen Schub bei den regionalen Aktivitäten im Bereich der Diagnostikaentwicklung. Gemeinsam mit
der Gründung des ZMDB wurden 2 große F&E-Plattformen mit
insgesamt 16 Projekten und 34 Mio. Euro Projektvolumen für
die nächsten 5 Jahre etabliert: Die Technologieplattform TERADiagnostik dient der Entwicklung innovativer Biosensor-Systeme
in Verbindung mit Terahertz-Technologien zur Signalübermittlung.

wachsenden Bereich der molekularbiologischen Diagnostik bereits heute zu den führenden Standorten in Deutschland. Und die Zeichen stehen gut, dass diese Position weiter
gefestigt und ausgebaut werden kann. Einen wichtigen Baustein dafür bildet das Zentrum für Molekulare Diagnostik und
Bioanalytik. Mit dem erfolgreichen Aufbau dieses Zentrums
sind die Weichen gestellt, um die Entwicklung der in der
Hauptstadtregion maßgeblich forcieren zu können.

TOP 50 bietet Unterstützung
beim Technologietransfer
Das seit Mitte 2008 laufende gemeinsame Technologietransferprogramm von Charité, FU
Berlin, Uni Potsdam und BioTOP ist in 2009 sehr erfolgreich fortgeführt worden. Ziel von
TOP 50 ist es, verwertungsfähige Ideen zu identifizieren und sie bis zu einem Punkt (dem
Proof of Concept) zu unterstützen, an dem die Chancen für die Gewinnung externer Partner
oder Investoren deutlich gestiegen sind.
Das Potenzial an innovativen und marktnahen Produktideen in den
Forschungseinrichtungen der Region ist enorm. Entsprechend hoch
ist der Bedarf an konkreter Unterstützung, die sich im Wesentlichen
durch Bewertung und Beratung durch Industrieexperten und dem
Projektmanagement des TOP 50-Teams auszeichnet. TOP 50 zeigt, wie
mit einem überschaubaren Einsatz von Ressourcen innovative Projektideen aus der akademischen Forschung in konkrete Produkte für die
Zukunft weiterentwickelt werden können.

da die technologische Lücke für den Einstieg in die kommerzielle Entwicklung oft noch zu groß ist und erst durch Schlüsselexperimente geschlossen werden muss. Als ein Nebeneffekt der
TOP 50-Aktivitäten wurden bei den begleiteten Projekten insgesamt 10 neue Erfindermeldungen und ein Antrag auf Orphan
Drug Status bei der EMEA eingereicht und bewilligt.

Regenerativen Medizin
In den letzten Jahren hat die Bedeutung der regenerativen Medizin weltweit rasch zugenommen. Stammzellforschung hat sich international zu einem hart umkämpften Feld entwickelt, und in Deutschland sind vier neue Zentren eingerichtet worden. Das neue BerlinBrandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT) konzentriert sich darauf, Ergebnisse
der Grundlagenforschung in der regenerativen Medizin für die klinische Anwendung zu
nutzen.
Das BCRT ist eine gemeinsame Einrichtung von Europas größter Universitätsklinik, der Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, und Deutschlands
führender Forschungsorganisation, der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft. Ziel
ist es, Ergebnisse der Grundlagenforschung und des Bio-Engineering
für die Entwicklung von klinischen Anwendungen und Produkten zu
nutzen. Dies wird möglich, indem Grenzen zwischen den Disziplinen
und einzelnen Instituten überwunden werden. Mehr als zehn erstklassige Forschungseinrichtungen sind in das Programm einbezogen.
Gemeinsam mit den Zentren in Leipzig und Dresden bildet das BCRT
einen Biotech-Cluster im Osten Deutschlands. Während die Wissenschaftler in Dresden sich auf Grundlagenforschung an Stammzellen
konzentrieren und jene in Leipzig auf präklinische Entwicklung, hat
sich das BCRT auf klinische Anwendungen, insbesondere innovative
Therapien, spezialisiert. Schwerpunkte sind Immunologie, das Mus-
kuloskelettale System und Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen. In 2009 hat
auf Initiative des BCRT die deutsch-amerikanische Zusammenarbeit
in der regenerativen Medizin hat eine n

Professor Frieder Meyer-Krahmer, Staatssekretär im Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF), unterzeichnete bei seinem
Besuch des Californian Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM),
eine Einrichtung des Bundesstaates Kalifornien, ein Memorandum of
Understanding. Darin vereinbaren das BMBF und das CIRM eine enge
Zusammenarbeit in der Forschungsförderung im Bereich der Regenerativen Medizin. Im Fokus der Vereinbarung steht die gemeinsame
Förderung internationaler Verbundforschungsprojekte. Forscher aus
Deutschland und Kalifornien können nun gemeinsam Projekte beantragen. Die Finanzierung erfolgt dann für deutsche Forscher durch das
BMBF, für kalifornische durch das CIRM.

Es ist sehr wichtig, dass bei der Weiterentwicklung der gesetzlichen Rahmenbedingungen für die Zulassung und Anwendung neuartiger Therapeutika auch akademische und hochschulmedizinische Einrichtungen mit einbezogen werden. Das im Januar 2009 gegründete Committee for Advanced
Therapies (CAT) gibt zu jedem Zulassungsantrag für ein neuartiges Therapeutikum eine Beurteilung ab, konsultiert dazu bei Bedarf „interested parties“,
zu denen auch Interessenverbände und Vertreter von hochschulmedizinischen
Einrichtungen zählen und bezieht darüber hinaus diese auch in die Entwicklung neuer Richtlinien mit ein. Durch die Präsenz des Berlin-Brandenburger
Centrum für Regenerative Therapien (BCRT) können die besonderen Belange
hochschulmedizinischer Einrichtungen, die Arzneimittel für neuartige Therapien entwickeln, beim CAT vorgebracht werden.

Erfolgreiches Business Development
Die globale Wirtschaftskrise geht nun in das zweite Jahr und sie ist nach wie vor noch nicht
überwunden. Bislang zeigt sich aber die Branche in Berlin-Brandenburg entgegen vieler
Befürchtungen sehr robust. Aktuell beschäftigen 195 Unternehmen 3.727 Beschäftigte.
Die Zahl der Arbeitsplätze ist damit auf leicht erhöhtem Niveau stabil geblieben. Wirtschaftliche, durch die Krise verursachte Einbrüche sind ausgeblieben.

Im Jahr 2009 haben die regionalen Biotech-Unternehmen wichtige Meilensteine bei der Produktentwicklung und neuer Kooperationen erreicht. Geprägt war das Jahr 2009 auch durch drei

Die Berliner Biopract GmbH wurde von dem niederländischen Life

Biotech trotzt der Finanzkrise
Das Umfeld könnte kaum schlechter sein. Globale Wirtschaftskrise, VC-Investitionen weiter
rückläufig und erhebliche Defizite bei den Rahmenbedingungen für innovative Unternehmen. Und trotzdem ist sowohl die Stimmung in der Branche als auch die wirtschaftliche
Situation besser als zu erwarten wäre.
Trotz großer Befürchtungen zeigt sich, dass die Biotech-Branche
von der Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise weniger hart getroffen ist
als andere Teile der Wirtschaft. Im Jahr 2009 gab es in BerlinBrandenburg keine einzige Schließung eines Unternehmens, das
der Krise zum Opfer gefallen wäre. Dass die Branche weniger konjunkturanfällig ist, liegt an der stabilen Nachfragesituation des
Gesundheits- und Forschungsmarktes, der permanent bedient
werden muss. Zudem werden die Leistungen im forschungsintensiven Bereich zu einem großen Teil durch stabile Budgets finanziert, die im Vergleich zum Investitionsgüterbereich nicht unmittelbar von den Turbulenzen am privaten Kapitalmarkt betroffen
sind.
Das mag erklären, dass die Mehrzahl der regionalen Unternehmen, die an einer BioTOP-Umfrage teilgenommen haben, keine
Umsatzrückgänge erwarten und davon ausgehen, dass sich die
Biotech-Branche besser als der Gesamtmarkt entwickelt. Das in
der Region herrschende positive Geschäftsklima wurde durch
eine ähnliche Umfrage des Branchenverbandes BioDeutschland
bestätigt.
Der insgesamt positive Eindruck überrascht allerdings beim Blick
auf die Situation am Kapitalmarkt. Im fünften Jahr hintereinander sind die VC-Investitionen in Deutschland zurückgegangen.
Nach einer Erhebung durch Fleischhauer, Hoyer & Partner eines
Panels von 38 führenden VC-Gebern fielen die Investitionen in
Deutschland von 565 Mio. Euro in 2008 auf 341 Mio. € in 2009
(nur Panelisten). Das bedeutet ein Rückgang von 40 %. Dabei
floss das meiste Kapital in die Branchen Software (71 Mio. Euro),
Internet (47 Mio. Euro) und Biotechnologie (46 Mio. Euro). Rund
ein Viertel der Investments wurden in Bayern getätigt, NRW folgt
mit 15 % auf Platz zwei und Berlin mit 13 % auf Platz drei.
Die Private Equity-Branche befindet sich in einer äußerst schwierigen Phase. Der Negativtrend äußert sich auch in den aktuellen
Zahlen des europäischen Branchenverbands EVCA. Die Totalverluste sind um den Faktor 3,5 auf 3,2 Mrd. Euro gestiegen, und die
Zahl neuer Fondsauflegungen sank um 40 %. Diese Zahlen beziehen sich zwar auf alle Branchen, aber diese Entwicklung geht
selbstverständlich nicht spurlos an der Biotech-Branche vorbei.
So ist es wenig verwunderlich, dass im Rahmen der o. g. Panelerhebung 49 % der VC-Investitionen von öffentlichen Geldgebern
getätigt wurden. Und dabei, sehr erfreulich für die Region, allen
voran die IBB Beteiligungsgesellschaft Berlin.

Im September 2009 unterzeichneten wir mit Roche Applied Science einen
Vertrag zur Übernahme des kompletten RTS Protein Expression Portfolios
durch die RiNA GmbH. Die RTS cell-free expression kits ergänzen das vorhandene Produktportfolio der RiNA und unsere spezifischen Dienstleistungsangebote
im Bereich der zellfreien Biosynthese ideal. Zusammen mit den 5 PRIME-Produkten zur Aufreinigung und Detektion von rekombinanten Proteinen wird die
RTS Technologie eine starke Basis für die gemeinsame Entwicklung innovativer
Produkte in diesem dynamischen Feld bilden.
Insgesamt zeigt sich, dass bis auf wenige Ausnahmen den Unternehmen der Zugang zu Venture Capital verschlossen bleibt. Noch
schlechter sieht es bei Fremdkapitalfinanzierungen durch Banken
aus. Eine Bankenfinanzierung war für die Biotech-Branche schon
immer tendenziell schwer. Aber die durch die Krise gestiegenen
Anforderungen bei der Kreditvergabe machen die typischerweise
risikobehafteten Finanzierungen in Biotech-Unternehmen auf
längere Sicht unwahrscheinlich. Von Ambitionen hinsichtlich
eines Börsenganges, ehemals der Königsweg der Finanzierung,
ist die Branche aktuell weit entfernt.
Die Hauptstadtregion ist im Bereich der Eigenkapitalfinanzierung
durch die IBB Beteiligungsgesellschaft und BC Brandenburg Capital
gut aufgestellt. Das Fondsvolumen beträgt zusammen über 80 Mio.

In 2009 haben wir mit den Planungen unserer Produktionsstätte in Luckenwalde begonnen. Ab April 2011
werden wir hier mit rund 100 Mitarbeitern Produkte auf Kollagenbasis für die moderne Wundversorgung und
Kosmetik herstellen. Luckenwalde ist nach Maryland, USA, und Taiwan der dritte Produktionsstandort für die von
der US Firma BioCore Inc. entwickelten Produkte. Der Biotechnologiepark bietet uns eine ausgezeichnete Infrastruktur und sehr gute Konditionen – auch für zukünftige Produktentwicklungen.
Eine besondere Rolle als Impulsgeber für neue Entwicklungsprojekte übernahm das Förderprogramm ZIM im Rahmen des
Konjunkturpakets II. Seit dem Start des Programmes im Juli 2008
wurden bislang 834 Mio. Euro, in allen Technologiebereichen,
bewilligt; davon in der Region Berlin-Brandenburg über 118 Mio.
Euro. Im Bereich Life Science wurden national ca. 95 Mio. Euro
Fördermittel bewilligt.
Die Bedeutung von Fördermitteln für die Entwicklung neuer Produkte ist gerade in diesen Zeiten immens. Auf kurze Sicht wird
sich die Finanzierungssituation auch nicht ändern. Umso wich
tiger wird es sein, dass die öffentliche Hand weiter die Branche unterstützt. Und das nicht nur bei der direkten Förderung,

beiden Bundesländer Berlin und Brandenburg haben zusammen
über 67 Mio. Euro Fördermittel für FuE und Infrastruktur für den
Bereich Life Science bewilligt.

Die Entwicklung der Biotech-Industrie in Berlin-Brandenburg in den letzten Jahren hat
davon profitiert, dass wichtige Pharmaunternehmen vor Ort sind. Mittlerweile hat die
Region als Biotech-Standort eine führende Position erreicht. Und das ist wiederum attraktiv für andere Pharmaunternehmen.
Berlin zählt zu den Geburtsorten der pharmazeutischen Industrie.
1851 eröffnete Ernst Schering in der Chausseestraße 17 die Grüne
Apotheke. 20 Jahre später gründete er die Chemische Fabrik auf
Actien, die später zur Schering AG wurde. Im Jahr 2006 wurde
das Unternehmen von Bayer übernommen. Seit der Fusion hat
sich die Gesundheitssparte zu einem wichtigen Standbein für den
Konzern entwickelt. Im Gesamtjahr 2008 steuerte die Sparte mit

Karlsruhe nach Berlin. Kurz darauf gab das Unternehmen bekannt,

von spezifischen Biotech-Parks ist in Deutschland und vermutlich in ganz Europa einmalig.
Die Parks unterscheiden sich hinsichtlich ihrer Angebote und strategischer Ausrichtung und
bieten damit ideale Bedingungen für Ansiedlungen. Mehr als die Hälfte der insgesamt

Der Campus Berlin-Buch im Norden Berlins hat sich zu einem einzigartigen biomedizinischen Standort mit 26.000 qm Labor- und

Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport entfernt bietet der Biotechnologiepark Luckenwalde die räumliche Nähe von Arbeiten,

Das enge räumliche Zusammenwirken von Forschung, Kliniken
und Unternehmen schafft ein ideales Umfeld für den wissenschaftlichen Austausch. Zu den Einrichtungen des Campus gehören

Schüler für Biotechnologie begeistern
Die Biotech-Industrie wächst und benötigt Nachwuchs. Die Entscheidung, eine entsprechende Karriere einzuschlagen, wird oft schon in der Schulzeit getroffen. Deshalb gibt
es in Berlin-Brandenburg spezielle Angebote, um Schüler für die Biowissenschaften zu
begeistern.
Wer in Berlin-Brandenburg etwas mit Biotechnologie zu tun hat,
kennt die BIONNALE, den jährlichen Empfang, bei dem sich Unternehmer, Wissenschaftler, Geldgeber treffen und austauschen. Es
geht um wissenschaftlichen Fortschritt, Innovationen und die
wirtschaftliche Entwicklung. Manchmal auch um den Nachwuchs
– denn die Branche wächst und benötigt gut ausgebildete Fachkräfte. Doch der mögliche Nachwuchs kommt nicht zur BIONNALE.
Er ist nicht eingeladen. Das würde den Rahmen sprengen.
Eigentlich müsste man eine eigene BIONNALE für Schüler machen,
eine Veranstaltung, die einen Einblick in die Branche gibt und über
Berufsmöglichkeiten informiert, dachte sich im letzten Jahr Beate
Mitzlaff, die sich bei BioTOP sowohl um das Thema Ausbildung als
auch um Veranstaltungen kümmert. Deshalb entwickelte sie ein
Konzept für die SchülerBIONNALE und setzte es in die Tat um.
Unter dem Motto „Biowissenschaften erleben und entdecken“
kamen am 30. April insgesamt über 600 Schülerinnen und Schüler der Mittel- und Oberstufe aus Berlin und Brandenburg ins
Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus, um zu erfahren, wie es in der Welt
der Biotechnologie zugeht. Das Programm umfasste eine Kurzvorlesung über Stammzellen, eine Einführung in Berufsbilder,
einen Crash-Kurs zur erfolgreichen Bewerbung (Barfuß oder Lackschuh?) sowie Experimente und Gespräche mit Vertretern aus
Unternehmen und Fachschulen. Da man in zwei Stunden nicht
alles erfahren und alles verarbeiten kann, bekam jeder Teilnehmer noch umfangreiches Material auf einem USB-Stick, und auch
die Lehrer wurden mit Unterlagen und Postern versorgt, um das
Thema im Unterricht weiter verfolgen zu können.

mit unserer Initiative „Call a Scientist“ Wissenschaftler sozusagen frei Haus in die Schulen.
