6:30pm Movie: And the Band Played On
TSA Offices, 501 John St, Evansville
Famous Quotes From the Movie:
Roger Gail Lyon: This is not a
political issue. This is a health
issue. This is not a gay issue.
This is a human issue. And I do
not intend to be defeated by it. I
came here today in the hope that
my epitaph would not read that I
died of red tape.
______________________________________
Bobbi Campbell: Well, you know,
if the gay community doesn't start
raising hell, do you think Reagan is
going to do a damn thing?
The Choreographer: I wish I had
your courage.
Bobbi Campbell: Courage... no.
I'm scared to death. I just have this
self-determination to live. Don't you?
Dr. Dennis Donohue:
When the doctors start acting
like businessmen, who do the
people turn to for doctors?
Blood Bank executive: Is the CDC
seriously suggesting that the blood industry
spends $100M a year to use the test for
the wrong disease because we have a
handful of transfusion fatalities and 8 dead
hemophiliacs?
Dr. Don Francis: How many dead
hemophiliacs do you need? How many
people have to die to make it cost efficient
for you people to do something about it? A
hundred? A thousand? Give us a number
so we won't annoy you again until the
amount of money you begin spending on
lawsuits make it more profitable for you to
save people than to kill them.
___________________________________
Congressman Phil Burton: I'll introduce
a bill. But if all the angels came dancing
down to earth like the Rockettes, even
they couldn't get a dime out of this
administration for anything with the name
"gay" on it.

LOCAL CIVIL RIGHTS ORDINANCE UPDATE:
For updates on the Vanderburgh County civil rights ordinance,
monitor our web Site at www.TSAGL.org and/or ‘like’ the Tri-State
Alliance on Facebook. You can help by writing a letter to the
Commissioners asking them to vote YES on adding age, disability, gender identity and sexual orientation to the county’s civil
rights ordinance. Write them at Vanderburgh County Commissioners, Room 305 Civic Center Complex, 1 NW Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Evansville IN 47708. The City Council
passed a similar ordinance unanimously last year, and Mayor
Weinzapfel approved the changes. So thanks to the City of
Evansville, 85% of the county is already covered by this ordinance. But we need YOUR help to make sure the ENTIRE
county is covered!

Remember TSA in Your Will
TSA Educational Presentations
By Wally Paynter
Making a difference in our community is important. TSA has
worked to serve our community since 1980. To make a difference in our community, donations of time and money have always been very important.
One way to continue to make a difference is by remembering
TSA in your estate planning. I choose to volunteer for the 3
charities that are the most important to me and my life (TSA,
MDA and 1st Presbyterian Church).
As I prepared my will, I have included TSA, MDA and my
church in my estate planning. Though this will not be a lot of
money, it will be my way to help make a difference in the future
after I am gone.
I would like to encourage you to consider the Tri-State Alliance as your prepare your estate. Our legal name is the TriState Alliance, Inc., our address is PO Box 2901, Evansville, IN
47728, and our Federal ID number is 35-1636272. Whether
you remember us in your will, life estate or in your life insurance, you can help us continue to make a difference. TSA has
served our region for 32 years, and your consideration will help
us continue to make a difference into the future! Contact me at
812-480-0204 or [email protected] for more information.
Gay & Lesbian Images in American Film. Lecture includes an overview of historical Hollywood and the fate of all minorities in American
movies from silent era to 1970s. Portions of the HBO Documentary

1967 American films depicting GLBT images.
The Hidden Holocaust: Lecture gives brief overview of the historical
evolution of the GLBT population in Europe during the latter 19th and
early 20th century, culminating in the Gay Renaissance of Berlin in the
1920’s. The documentary Paragraph 175 is shown, presenting the few
survivors of the Nazi death camps and their personal stories.
4000 Years of GLBT History: A power point presentation showing
images from around the world of GLBT people and events from a little
known Egyptian tomb from 2400 BC, to the current status of the campaign for marriage equality in the US and Europe.
For more info contact TSA VP Kelley Coures at [email protected]
Working with Diverse Populations: We meet with substance abuse
treatment facilities, churches, schools, social service and medical
agencies, and university classes to talk about working with GLBT communities in a culturally competent fashion.
Current Issues in the HIV / AIDS Pandemic: From local to international, get an update about the HIV / AIDS Pandemic, and find out how
YOU can make a difference!

June 2012
Dear TSA members and friends,
This has been an exciting year for our organization with many accomplishments, including:
 We served 375 low-income families impacted by HIV / AIDS through the Tri-State AIDS Holiday Project;
 Our 4th Annual Celebrity Dinner (led by Nancy Drake and Bobbi Warren) and TSA’s 8 th Annual Red Party (led by
Holly D’Amour and Carol McClintock) were the best and the most successful in the history of our group;
 We successfully lobbied the Evansville City Council to unanimously approve adding gender identity and sexual
orientation to the city’s human relations ordinance;
 We successfully lobbied the Mayor of Evansville to add gender identity and sexual orientation to the city’s nondiscrimination policy;
 Kelley Coures and Dr. Amie McKibban both received awards from Leadership Evansville for their civil rights work in
the community; Amie also received an award for teaching and leadership from USI;
 City Council President Connie Robinson and City Council member Dan McGinn co-sponsored city’s human
relations ordinance, and received a civil rights award from Leadership Evansville;
 We publicized the appearance of Queen Latifah, who publicly endorsed the local civil rights ordinances;
 We had significantly more people testify in favor of a county civil rights ordinance than our opposition (despite their
testimony that gays should be put to death, that we give teenagers pizza to turn them gay, and that anti-gay
ministers will face jail time if the ordinance passes)…the passage of the Evansville ordinance proves their claims to
be false on a daily basis;
 We sponsored the largest prom in the Tri-State, with over 650 students in attendance;
 We have established an office for our volunteer meetings as well as our weekly youth group meetings.
For our work to continue, we need YOUR support! Please become a dues-paying member of our organization.
Memberships are $5 low-income, $25 basic membership, $50 household membership and $100 for the TSA Officers’ Club
Membership. Checks can be sent TSA Membership, PO Box 2901, Evansville, IN 47728, or you can make a secure on-line
donation at www.TSAGL.org. We continue to face many challenges, including the threat of protestors at our GLBT Pride
Picnic on June 10 and at other events. We can only continue our work with YOUR support, so we encourage you to
consider making a donation to our group. Thanks for your continued support!
