TRANS TEXAS CORRIDOR COORDINATION
TRANS TEXAS CORRIDOR COORDINATION Regional Transportation Council February 12, 2004 North Central Texas Council of Governments Transportation Department TRANS TEXAS CORRIDOR General Information In January 2002 Governor Perry announced the Trans Texas Corridor Plan for Texas. The plan suggests approximately 4,000 miles of new corridors throughout the State to carry people and goods. The corridors are planned as multi-use, including toll roads, high-speed passenger and freight rail, regional freight and commuter rail, and underground transportation of water, petroleum, gas, and telecommunications. TxDOT Requirements Alignments for the Trans Texas Corridor are subject to the environmental review process and consultation with MPOs. HB 3588, passed by the 78th Texas Legislature in 2003, states that “The commission may not disburse money out of the state highway fund for the initial construction of a facility of the Trans-Texas Corridor unless the commission finds that the disbursement will reduce traffic congestion to an extent that is comparable to the reduction in traffic congestion that would likely be achieved by spending the same amount of money on the project that is the most reasonable alternative.” CURRENT TxDOT INITIATIVES Request for Competing Proposals and Qualifications issued by TxDOT for the IH-35 high priority corridor in July 2003. Three consulting teams have submitted bids for the IH-35 corridor. – Trans Texas Express, LLC (Dallas, TX) – Fluor Enterprises, Inc. (Sugar Land, TX) – Cintra (Madrid, Spain) TxDOT public meetings on the Trans Texas Corridor will be held in every county beginning February 10, 2004. CURRENT NCTCOG INITIATIVES NCTCOG will fulfill federal concurrency requirements by reviewing and commenting on Trans Texas Corridor alignments. NCTCOG will hold a briefing for the three IH-35 project teams on February 26, 2004. – The role of the MPO, including planning and funding information – Staging issues and urban connection to the Trans Texas Corridor TRANS TEXAS CORRIDOR TransTexas Corridor D/FW Connector Existing Railroads Existing/Planned Roadways Trans Texas Corridor Routes (Multimodal corridors proposed by the Texas Transportation Commission) County Boundaries State of Texas North Central Texas Council of Governments Transportation Department .
