Finally, Noah Treat auditioned for and was selected to the All Illinois Junior Honors band this year. He was one of 12 clarinets in the state to make this group. This is an outstanding achievement. February 25, 2016 DANCING WITH THE DISTRICT A great night was had by students, staff, and community at the Dancing With the District event last Saturday evening. Thank you for the wonderful support of our district. VOL. 13 February 25, 2016 VOL. 13 DANCING WITH THE DISTRICT February 25, 2016 VOL. 13 Debunking The Library Myth The ideas that have been misrepresented in the community that the district was no longer going to have library are not true. Library Time for K - 5 will be similar to what students have currently. Library will be covered by both certified and noncertified staff members. Library at IJHS will be remodeled to fit with today’s needs in the area of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, as well as a typical library. Promoting student love of reading, literacy, and providing time for students to look at library books will remain consistent. February 26, 2016 VOL. 13 Independence 7th Grade Museum Independence Junior High School opened it's doors for the annual 7th Grade Independence Museum on Tuesday, January 26. Mr. Mahoney and Mr. Janotta sponsor this event as a part of the 7th grade curriculum each year. Our students enjoyed an evening of sharing American history with friends and families as they presented their research projects. We were thrilled to have so many of our community members join us for this educational evening. February 26, 2016 Independence 7th Grade Museum VOL. 13 February 26, 2016 VOL. 13 Independence students wore red and pink on Friday to support heart health awareness. February 26, 2016 VOL. 13 RECYCLING - WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! Great news! We now have paper-recycling bins at every building. We would like to invite everyone from the district and community to please help and recycle paper. Below is a flyer that explains the items that are acceptable and unacceptable. February 26, 2016 Indian Hill Minion Pancake Breakfast VOL. 13 Indian Hill School hosted the Minion Pancake Breakfast this month. This event raised $2145.50 to provide scholarships for preschool students whose families are experiencing financial hardship to attend Indian Hill Preschool. More significantly, this event builds a strong community that nurtures our current, future, and past families. Strong families create healthy children who come to school ready to learn and be successful. Our mission is to create a brighter future for our students. We are grateful for our partnership with Palos Heights Kiwanis Club and Indian Hill families and staff who worked tirelessly to support this event. We especially thank Therese Lahart, Barraco’s, Restaurant Depot – Mr. Lelo, Beth Cosme, Kerri Karr, Kim and Robert Funk, Hope Zawaski, Pam Koutras, Teri Sundberg, Elizabeth Foertsch, Mike Pierce, Bob Gaw, NJHS student volunteers from Independence Jr. High, and all the Indian Hill families who made donations for our raffle baskets.
