INDEPENDENCE JR. HIGH BAND
Our IJHS band program is sending 10 students to the Conference
All- Star Band to represent our district. Those students are:
J.T. Boudreau, Katie Peterson, Erin Scott, Matthew Rivera, Eric
Spindler, Lindsey Bylut, Noah Treat, Madeline Langford, Joseph
Feldner, and Emily Correll.
Additionally, we sent the following students to our IGSMA state band
solo and ensemble contest over the weekend: Lily Cerrito, Shea
Fitzgerald, Allison Langford, Noah Treat, Colton Sterling, Anthony
Blasco, Samella Shive, Ashley Marek, Matt Rivera, and Caitling
Stokes with Noah and Allie both performing solos and in ensembles.
This group brought back 10 Division 1 medals and 2 Division 2
medals! They did a great job representing our district.
Finally, Noah Treat auditioned for and was selected to the All Illinois
Junior Honors band this year. He was one of 12 clarinets in the state
to make this group. This is an outstanding achievement.

Debunking The Library Myth
The ideas that have been misrepresented in the
community that the district was no longer going to have
library are not true.
Library Time for K - 5 will be similar to what students have
currently.
Library will be covered by both certified and
noncertified staff members.
Library at IJHS will be remodeled to fit with today’s
needs in the area of science, technology, engineering,
arts, and math, as well as a typical library.
Promoting student love of reading, literacy, and providing
time for students to look at library books will remain
consistent.

Independence 7th Grade Museum
Independence Junior High School opened it's doors for the annual 7th
Grade Independence Museum on Tuesday, January 26. Mr. Mahoney and
Mr. Janotta sponsor this event as a part of the 7th grade curriculum each
year. Our students enjoyed an evening of sharing American history with
friends and families as they presented their research projects. We were
thrilled to have so many of our community members join us for this
educational evening.

RECYCLING - WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!
Great news! We now have paper-recycling bins at every
building. We would like to invite everyone from the district
and community to please help and recycle paper. Below is a
flyer that explains the items that are acceptable and
unacceptable.

Indian Hill Minion
Pancake Breakfast
VOL. 13
Indian Hill School hosted the
Minion Pancake Breakfast this
month. This event raised
$2145.50 to provide scholarships
for preschool students whose
families are experiencing financial
hardship to attend Indian Hill
Preschool. More significantly, this
event builds a strong community
that nurtures our current, future,
and past families. Strong families
create healthy children who come
to school ready to learn and be
successful. Our mission is to
create a brighter future for our
students. We are grateful for our
partnership with Palos Heights
Kiwanis Club and Indian Hill
families and staff who worked
tirelessly to support this event.
We especially thank Therese
Lahart, Barraco’s, Restaurant
Depot – Mr. Lelo, Beth Cosme,
Kerri Karr, Kim and Robert Funk,
Hope Zawaski, Pam Koutras, Teri
Sundberg, Elizabeth Foertsch,
Mike Pierce, Bob Gaw, NJHS
student volunteers from
Independence Jr. High, and all
the Indian Hill families who made
donations for our raffle baskets.

Meet Our Staff…
Marianne Martlink
1. The position I hold is Health Aide at Navajo School, and
this is my fifth year. Previously, I was a teacher for fourteen
years and loved every minute!
2. I grew up in Beverly and now live in Oak Lawn.
3. My favorite way to spend a Sunday afternoon is with
my family, talking on our deck or in front of a fire.
4. If I weren't in this line of work, I would be a comedian.
Now, I just go to comedy shows. I'm a true believer:
Laughter is the best medicine.
5. Growing up, many people were an important influence in
my life, one way or another. To select just one, I would have
to choose my good 'ol Uncle Bud. He was the comedian in
the family. I love him and miss him dearly.

Health Aide - Navajo School

catching up on all the shows I DVR'd during the week.
4. If I weren't in this line of work, I would be a kids'
party planner!
5. Growing up, my dad and grandma were an important
