Kids Korner with Holly Team 10 Wins Summer League! 10 My best friend Hana is a sock stealer! Don’t forget to say, “Howdy!” to Bill Howell. Expires: September 22. Team 15 Takes Second. Team 7 is Third. Glenn Campbell is called out of retirement from the Summer League by 12 year old Holly Pizzini to capture his first, 1st place summer win! Continued page 3 September 2012. the “ARROW” (Continued) Pictured left is the Ameristep Ground Pod with Carnivore ground blind set atop it. This all steel elevated platform is great at taking hunters to new heights! It’s sturdy construction and spacious deck is just enough room for 1 hunter and 1 youth. I’ll be honest, you may be able to fit 2 adults but one needs to be the cameraman! LOL 3 1 2 4 Great for taking your beginner youth hunter for their first hunt! Holly’s helpful hints: Even thou this platform is secure, some safety concerns should be mentioned. 1) Extend the feet far enough on the ladder so that the ladder is on a slight angle. This makes it easier to climb up and down. 2) Add non-slip tape to the top of each rung on the ladder. Morning dew on your shoes could make climbing slippery! 3) The inside edge of the ground blind is the edge of the platform! Be careful when zipping/unzipping the windows! Holly and I assembled this one in a couple hours. It has hooks in the corners that the grommets from the ground blind hook over. In the center of each side is a metal pole for securing the center of the blind with the blinds provided lanyards. Disassembly is easy enough after season for storage. Highlights in picture are: 1) Strong, easy to assemble frame with clear instructions. 2) Adjustable legs on the ladder for all ground variations and easy access to the underside trap door! 3) Securely holds ground blind! (Buy a ground blind without a floor!) Easier to assemble and remember the trap doors? 4) Large stakes included for anchoring to the ground. This is a great intermediate elevated platform to allow our youths to become use to heights before the tree stand! It’s approximately 6 feet off the ground; I didn’t measure it when it was up. I’m going to add 2x12x12 treated lumber under the feet in each corner to expand its footprint. I’m being over cautious here, but that’s MY Holly up there! 2 September 2012. the “ARROW” Gripe column: Wait for gate to close behind you before driving to club! Wait for gate to completely open before driving through! Pick up your trash and bottles inside clubhouse! Summer league banquet is a tasty treat! There’s nothing I like better then a club that knows how to treat it’s self right! The end of summer league means some of the tastiest steaks were cooking on LB’s grills. Thick, juicy and flame broiled over charcoal! Does it get any better? I would like to thank all the people who put the League and banquet together, supported us and made the shirts, Kudos! This is a fun league for all ages! The great thing about archery is it doesn’t matter your age (as Silas showed us) if you’re a senior or a preteen there’s room for everyone! See you next year….. “Mmmm, Jello shots!” Our president and others passed out gifts. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place got to choose first for the prizes on the table. Next, tickets were drawn to see who was going to win next until all prizes were gone! Some even won twice! Don’t throw cigarette butts on the ground ANYWHERE on LB property! If your kids make a mess on the tables or spill liquid on them, WIPE IT UP! Nothing worse than putting your arm down into someone’s sticky mess! Rotate your targets to save bales! Stand behind that dern green line during YAP so Sherry doesn’t have to yell so much! She gets enough practice yelling at ME for crossing that DERN green line! Being late with the newsletter, putting 3 sugars in her coffee instead of 2 (hey, I was just trying to sweeten her up, what could it hurt?) and talking with Holly after she shot. For the record, dad coaching during YAP is forbidden, discouraged and frowned upon! Duhh, that’s why we have COACHES! ;) 3 September 2012. the “ARROW” Summer League Results Coon Shoot Once again it went down to a shoot off. Our club president Larry McNew and Phil Hinojosa came in with a tie. It only took one target and Phil Hinojosa came out the winner by shooting a 10. Anthony 6 September 2012. the “ARROW” The passed several months has shown an increase in false security alarms at the club. When the alarm goes off. Wyandotte alarm notifies the Brownstown Police first and me second. If they cannot contact me to cancel the call or if I cannot reply in time. The police are sent to the call. The police can and will charge us for false alarms. In all cases, in the pass two months it has been members who are at fault for the false alarms. Please check and make sure that the front door to the clubhouse is closed after you arm and leave the clubhouse. If you have any questions on how to set the alarm contact me or any board member. Thank you! Larry McNew There are a few safety reminders that I would like to mention again about the entrance gate. First don't try to rush though the gate as it is opening, let it open all the way first .Also do not stop in front of the photo eye. This is a safety feature to keep the gate from closing as you pass by.If there is a highly reflective area on your car there may be false reading and the gate may start to close. In the case of a power failure the gate will not work. If this happens there is a gate along Dean street, across from the broad head pit that you can use. The lock is coded with the same number as the front gate. If you do use this gate. Please lock it again when you enter or leave the club. As a reminder to new and old members. Broadheads are to be shot only in the broadhead pit. Please do not move the broadhead targets onto the top of the berm. Targets are to be shot at the bottom of the berm only, this is a safety issue! Also, crossbow shooters you can shoot any of the outdoor targets, front, back, broadhead pit and field course. You must shoot the yellow bag target indoors. You should not shoot into the back stop inside the club house or any of the 3-d targets. The front entrance gate combination and the Dean street emergency gate combination will change on Oct 1st. call any director for the new code. Larry Laboe will be heading up a work party to clean and wax the club house floor. If you can help please contact him. Members keep in mind that this job will take several days to complete and indoor shooting may be interrupted. Notice will be posted at the club. 7 September 2012. the “ARROW” Hello Archers! Anthony 9 September 2012. the “ARROW” Kids Korner With: Holly Pizzini Don’t leave your socks lying around or forget to close the hamper or else the sock monster will get you! RUN IT’S THE SOCK MONSTER!!!! Oh puppies are sweet, lovable, and darn cute! But not all dogs are, “perfect angles.” My dog Hana has a devious side to her. If you’re ever at my house and your wondering where Hana is, you’d better check the closet! You see, my dog unlike most has a thing for socks, slippers, shoes, and any thing that she can get her paws on! Then she sneaks around the house just to sit down and look at them. What ever will I do with her! So people everywhere, close your closets, shut your hamper, and prepare for the sock monster!
