We have been so busy this week in Nursery. We
have celebrated Diwali, by listening to the story
of Rama and Sita, making Rangoli patterns and
colouring Mendhi patterns. We had a lovely day
today, with our spooky activities, making cat
masks, spooky spiders, spooky photo frames,
colouring in spooky things and handprint
ghosts! Scary!
What a busy week we have had in Reception.
We have been listening to the story, ‘The
Dark, Dark Tale’, it was a little bit scary, at
the end we had to guess what was in the dark,
dark box. We have been doing lots of Fred
talking and practising our reading books. In
Maths we have been naming 2d shapes and
talking about their properties. In Topic we
have been making diva lamps ready to
celebrate Diwali. On Friday we had a lovely
day, we all dressed up as spooky characters
and did lots of ‘Spooky Day’ activities.
After half term our topic will be ‘People Who
Help Us’ and we will be starting with Firefighters.
We will be learning about the job firefighters do,
fire safety, reading non-fiction books and making
firework pictures. The sounds we will be learning
are k and u and we will be practising holding a
pencil correctly and counting to 10.
Thank you for your Firework safety pictures,
which were so imaginative - well done!
We will be sending home with your child today
some WOW sheets, so you can share what you
do with your child over the half term and Read,
Write Inc. sound sheets for your child to practise
over the holidays. Please return when we return
on Monday 3rd November.
In Nursery we are aiming to add to our cultural
resources. If you have any children’s clothes
(Saris, suits etc.) that your child has grown out of
we would gratefully receive them for our role
play area. Also any dual language books, music
CDs and toys.
Wishing you all a lovely half term break! All of
the children have settled so well into their first
half term at school and we look forward to
hearing what exciting things you have been
doing with your children when we come back to
school..
After half term we are going to focus on
different festivals and special days. The first
week back we are going to be learning all
about Bonfire night. We are going to link all
our activities to a Bonfire theme. See what
you can find out about Guy Fawkes for when
we come back to school.
Well done to all of Reception who entered the
Fireworks competition the standard was really
high and Miss Burkitt had a hard job judging
them all. Thank you also to everyone who
sent in donations for our Harvest Festival. All
food was sent to needy people in the
community.
Have a lovely half term and remember to
practise your Fred talking and your reading
books. Don’t forget to complete any wow
sheets if you do something
amazing or go somewhere

This week in Maths we have been
doubling numbers, deciding if a
number is odd or even and
ordering the days of the week and
months of the year.
This week we have had a lot of
fun in English learning about
poetry. We have read some
poems and written some of our
own poems. We also performed
our poems and practised using
expression.
In English we have been writing
our own poems about what we
love and what we hate. Some of
us said we love doing homework!
We have all enjoyed dressing up
today for Spooky Day and have
taken part in lots of fun activities.
Please continue to practise reading
your reading book regularly and
learning your spellings.
We hope you have a lovely, restful
half term break.
In Maths we have been practising

In Year 3 this week we have been
looking at telling the time in Maths
and in English we have been learning
how animals survive in Winter in
order to write an explanation text.
This week we have been busy writing
stories in our English lessons. We have
been focussing on describing the setting
using our senses to build up our
descriptions. We are all trying to use a
range of adjectives and adverbs in our
writing too.
In Topic lessons we have written
about ‘Skara Brea’ and we have
sketched the village of ‘Skara Brea’
using different sketching techniques.
In Science we dissected plants and
thoroughly examined each of the
different parts.
We have all enjoyed Spooky Day and
taken part in lots of different
Hallowe’en activities.
After Half Term we will be learning
about Shape and Symmetry in Maths
and writing non-chronological reports
in English.
We hope you all have a restful
holiday, remember to read regularly
and keep practising your times tables.
Enjoy Half Term!
During our Topic sessions we have
continued to find out about the Stone
Age. This week we have been learning all
about Skara Brea which is a preserved
Stone Age village in Scotland. It was
built around 3000BC and we found out
that the village has eight houses in it.
Next half term some of our topics will be
changing. In Science we will be finding
out about Solids, Liquids and Gases.
During the holidays we would like you to
do some of your own research and bring
it in to school on the first day. We look
forward to reading what you find out.
Please continue to practise your reading,
spellings and timetables at home. We
wish everyone a peaceful

Year 5
This week we have been focusing on
fractions in Maths, involving equivalent
fractions, finding fractions of numbers
and improper fractions.
In English we have completed some
grammar work and have written some
great persuasive letters. Some of us have
written letters to Mr Cocker persuading
him to adjust the school uniform policy
and let children wear whatever they
want to school! I wonder if they will be
successful?....
In Science we have looked at what a
healthy diet is for both an animal and a
human. Children have looked at the
different food categories and have
identified why animals need specific
diets.
In Topic, we have investigated Mayan
Gods and have used ICT to help us!
Have a great half term Year 5 and stay
safe! :)
Year 6
The week we have been following
sequences and learning area and
perimeter in Maths.
In English, we have been building up to
Halloween by writing in the style of Roald
Dahl and developing our scary,
suspenseful writing. Some new Horror
classics may have been born!
Don’t forget to do a bit of revision during
the holidays, but also make sure you
enjoy the season; stay safe if you’re TrickOr Treating!
We would like to remind everyone to pay
their £50 deposits for the Year 6
residential as soon as possible.
If we don’t meet our target, we will not
be able to go– which would be a great
shame, as all the children seem really
excited about what is sure to be one of
the best residential visit we have ever
had!
Have a happy half term.
