June 26th @ 5pm Pizza Garden Buffet 217 Harwood Rd Bedford, TX 76021 www.pizzagardenbuffet.com May 15th we had our monthly club meeting at our new meeting place, Pizza Garden. We had a well attended meeting with a lot of discussion. The June meeting will be on the 26th as we move the meeting one week later to keep from stepping on Father's Day. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to my dad and all the other fathers!! There was a recommendation at the May 15th meeting by Dan Robinson that all club members who drive their MOPAR will eat free. That's correct the club treasurer will be at the head of the line and will pay for all club members' dinner who drive their MOPAR to the meeting. Thanks Dan I like the idea!! The Mopar cruise-in was very well attended again this year. I have emailed asking if they have a number of participants, but no response yet. I would guess around the same number as last year, about 130. The club provided our coolers, tables, chairs and smoker. They were very grateful for the use of the club's stuff. I was told it will be on the same weekend next year. hanks for your prayers for Dean Allen. He is cancer free and doing well. See ya soon Mark MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION Rick Brownell, Membership Director There is a significant number of members who have not yet paid their 2011 membership dues. Don’t forget your 2011 Club Dues: Single membership New $25 / Renewal $15 Family membership New $35 / Renewal $25 Rick (stumpy) Brownell Cowtown Mopars Membership Director A Word from our VEEP……. Looking at the thermometer on the porch, it seems that Summer has arrived about twenty days early. That's ok, as there is plenty of upcoming car stuff to do with all of the extra daylight that comes with the heat. Summer is car show season, and you could go to ten or more shows/cruises a weekend in the DFW area if you had the time and interest. You can find them on the web or in the local newspapers, but pick one and go some Saturday or Sunday. You never know who or what you are going to see. If you want the tried and true, come out and join us at the monthly Christian Classic Cruisers show, held the third Saturday of the month at the Birdville ISD Stadium in North Richland Hills. Normally, it runs from 5:00 to 9:00, but this month, July and August it will start at 6:00 and run to 10:00 to escape some of the late afternoon heat. It usually pulls between 200 and 300 cars of all types. One of the better ongoing local shows. Mopars at the Motorplex was a blast, and I don't race! Don Garlits is a gentleman, and proved to be hit with everyone who came in contact with him. Hopefully, we can have him back in the future. The weather was perfect, cool and dry. Seems a lot of cars were running some of their best times ever. Kudos to Rick Mariano and Ken Castleman for tackling the tower duties. Mike Miller got to race his old AMC Spirit for the first time in over a year. It used to be painted appliance white and we called it the "Kelvinator". Now it is painted green. Gotta' rename it. How does "Kermit" sound? There was some decent stuff in the car corral and swap area. We had 38 cars entered in the car show. Not a bad day at all. Don't forget the indoor show at the Will Rogers Exhibit Center in Fort Worth over the Fourth of July weekend. The club has six spaces confirmed, so we should be making a very good showing. This is the big show that is normally held in February. It got pushed back to July due to scheduling conflicts. Ken Key VP Just in case you actually needed a reason to drive your Mopar!! June 12—Kennedale TMCCC Makeup Race June 26th—Club Meeting July 1st thru 3rd—Fort Worth Motorama 2011 Mopars At The Motorplex WOW! What a GREAT day it was at the Motorplex!!!! Every time I went by "Big Daddy's tent he was signing something. The weather was perfect and I think the attendance was the best of any year. Thanks to all our sponsors, support staff and participants. Dave Mandato and Ken and Lesa Key helped with the car show and Frank Smith, Ken Castleman and Rick Mariano helped in the tower. The voices you heard throughout the day were Ken and Rick doing a GREAT job on very short notice. Also Bill Boon said the prayer this year and Chuck Buchanan sang the National Anthem again. THANKS to everyone for their help and support again this year. It was a GREAT year! A personal note from the Motorplex. For the last year and a half I have been looking for a 10 second and 120mph run. I finally got it at the Motorplex, 10:98 @ 121mph. The only problem was I was trying to run 11:00 index. Well it was cool anyway. See ya May 14th! There were two surprises. First one was Ken Key's 70 AAR Cuda showed up, after five years, finally in one piece and won "Best of Show". The second surprise was that Don Garlits passed out the show car plaques to the winners and then signed them. It's great to have won a show plaque, but even greater to have one with his picture and signature on it. I'm sure a lot of racer's might have his autograph, but not to many show car owners. In my opinion, this really made our show plagues very special. To all you show car owners who didn't attend the show, you missed an opportunity of a lifetime. Be there next time, you never know what might happen. Fort Worth Motorama July 1,2 & 3 will be the 37th annual Ft Worth Motorama. If you are interested in putting your car in the show please contact Ken Key. Don’t forget we’re online: www.cowtownmopars.com or search “Cowtown Mopars” on Facebook!!!
