Saw item in the news about the Viper getting a 770 hp supercharged V10 next year. Will see if it comes true. On the Jeep side, the SRT is supposed to get the Hellcat engine. Again, we will see. As far as my Jeep truck project, got the rebuilt transmission in along with the Dana 20 transfer case. Man what a trial. Had to use an adapter plate to mate it to the 360, then move the crossmember back almost 2 inches to accommodate the slightly longer Dana 20. The driveshaft fit, the speedo cable did not. The dipstick tube fit but the bracket was in the wrong place so had to add a bracket. Had to add a spacer to the crankshaft to move the flexplate back enough to reach the torque converter and to top it off, only had forward and reverse, no gears. Checked the vacuum modulator, appeared OK. Verified I had vacuum. Checked the governor, it was stuck like chuck so got the one from the old transmission, put it in after making sure it was not stuck, then I had gears. Kinda soft going into second, took a long time to hit third, but felt maybe would work itself out because it was sitting 7 years since rebuilt. Took it to Cars and Coffee at Farrington Field. Started off shifting OK but the longer I drove the worse it got. When I got home again, it would only go into second if I let off the gas after going fast. Never did hit third, but the speed limits were no higher than 45 anyway, so no real issues there. Guess I’ll put some TransMedic in it and see if that helps, then maybe pull the valve body. We will see. Ah another day, finally got the shifting issues straightened out. Now acts like a real Jeep, is nice to drive and not see it marking its territory, LOL. Well it was a good club meeting I suppose, but we missed having Mark, Rich, Frank, and several other people that were not there. I guess we had no minutes taken but 3 new people joined and 3 former members rejoined. Forget their names but welcome to all ya’ll. Will close for now as I cannot think of anything else to ramble on about. Till next time. Phil “In The Works” Chris Sharp, Activity Director Gainseville Depot Days Car Show Saturday, October 10. Cowtown Mopars newsletter now has its own email address: [email protected] The Go Fast(er) Department Mark Buchanan - Race Team Coordinator HEY THIRTEEN TIME TMCCC CHAMPIONS!!!! 2015 Race Schedule: Hey Cowtown Mopar Racers!!!!!!! March 8 March 22 March 29 May 3 June 7 Sept 13 Sept 20 Oct 4 Nov 1 Nov 14 Kennedale Denton Ennis Denton Ardmore Denton Ennis Kennedale Ennis banquet It's almost that time again. I feel like I haven't raced all year, but I know I have it's just not been what I had in mind for 2015. I do have good news, "my car is race ready"!!!! This Saturday will be the second weekend in a row to go to a track. When September comes to an end I plan for 4 of 5 weekends at a local track. A guy has to makeup for lost time right? The weekend I won't be at a track I will be at the Dallas Denton and Ardmore open 9 AM Mopar Club's Annual Labor Day Show. They support us, let’s All others open 8 AM be sure and support them as well. Besides it's a GREAT show!!!! We have 4 races scheduled in the Fall and it looks like that will not change. Redline is taking longer than planned or so it seems. See ya in Denton September 13th Stay tuned Mark Don’t forget we’re online: www.cowtownmopars.com and “Cowtown Mopars” on Facebook!!! Off The Wing by Barry Hansen July issue of Motor Trend says the 2015 Scat Pack Charger R/T at 485 hp for $39,995 is the best dollar per horsepower car you can buy in the world. They compare to the Corvette 455 hp, $55,995, Lexus RC F 460 hp, $63,325, Camaro Z/28 505 hp but $75,000, BMW S55B30 485 hp, 62,950. Then compare with two other cars in the same price range of $40,000, the Subaru WRX STI and Volkswagen Golf R. Charger beats both of them in 0 to 60, quarter mile and (I'm just guessing here) more horsepower. Oops, bad timing dept … Dodge announces the “Rebel” edition of the Ram truck just as the Rebel flag controversy comes to a head. I'm just spitballin' here but couldn't they have chosen a less controversial name, something like the “Iran Contra” or the “Weather Underground”. Just sayin'. We may be old but we are still bad dept … June issue of AARP magazine (ed. note, I just barely qualify), full page picture of the first lady of Funny Cars Bunny Burkett, age 70, in the cockpit of the funny car she still drives. She switched to funny cars in the mid 1970s while Shirley was still doing quite well in dragsters. Is it just me dept … I don't like the grill of the new Rams. Looks like they borrowed the ugly grill from the new Fords and modified it. Bring back the big honkin' center chrome grill. Remember Ram, you set the trend, not copy it. Must we talk about NHRA? Yes, painfully we must. Northwest Nats, Seattle, WA, Tommy Johnson, Jr, Charger, winner in F/C. Lucas Oil Nats, Brainerd, MN, Tommy Johnson, Jr, same Charger, runner-up F/C. One bright spot in NHRA news. Dig this, the last three races, Fast Jack Beckman and his Charger F/C set a new top speed record and new low ET record at each race. This is not the record for that race or the record for that track but the all time anywhere F/C top speed and low ET. He set them at the Sonoma Nats, reset them at the Northwest Nats and reset them again at the Lucas Oil Nats. He also won the Sonoma Nats. Congratulations Jack Beckman. “Only in a Dodge”. Love the latest “Dodge Brothers” commercial. A Scat Pack Challenger, a Scat Pack Charger and two 1910 era Dodge “flivvers” side by side all doing burnouts, the voiceover “Do you know how hard it is to do a commercial with a Dodge and not do a burnout?” September is here and TMCCC is back.
