Thanks to our leadership for serving from another year. June 25th 2016 will be the date for this year’s car show located at SpeedTek, Southeast corner of 121 and Carson Street in Haltom City. Along with the car show there will be a chance for you to dyno your car, $35 for 3 pulls, no tuning. NBN Burgers will be there for anyone who gets hungry. It will be a great day for the club at SpeedTek so plan to be there. Mark Buchanan volunteered to help with parking and he will need help. Also there will be numerous other volunteers needed that day so let someone know if you will be able to help. The Saturday before will be a cleanup day in the lot next door that we hope to use for non judged and over flow parking. THANKS Bill Boon 45 awards There are Mopars at and Mark Buchanan talked about Mopars at the Motorplex. We have for the car show with 3 judges and 2 helping with registration. 6 race classes with all 6 having a guaranteed payout. April 2nd the Motorplex and April 3rd TMCCC race at the Motorplex. TMCCC races and race shirt discussed by Mark Buchanan. Ron Carroll talked about the Autorama as well as local upcoming shows. Ron and several others commented on the Power Tour that will run June 11th to 18th with a Grand Prairie, Texas stop on the 14th. Meeting was adjourned at 6:30 From The Veep’s Desk Ok, back again folks. It appears that FCA in all its wisdom is not going to make an SRT Chrysler 300 anymore, BUT they are going to offer the 300 with a R/T package and 3 stages of refinement. The R/T will have the fine-tuned sport suspension, along with various luxury goodies, as that is what people want in the 300. After all, it is supposed to be a luxury car. They will offer a Stage 1 package consisting of a cold air kit, cat back tuned exhaust and a couple of other little gee whiz things. Stage 2 gets a different cam, valve springs, ECM tuning. Stage 3 gets all the above and adds ported heads with port matching but the last two will not be available in states with strict emission laws (can you say California?) Supposedly it will max out about 62K which is where it probably would be if you bought one on your own and modified it. But this is turn key with a warranty, so I guess you have that going for you. Jeep is probably going to have the Hellcat engine in the Grand Cherokee and there is a dealer that installs the Hellcat in the Wrangler but the article didn’t say who it was. Speaking of Jeep I started on my replacement engine have started accumulating pieces-parts, including a 3key way double roller timing set, a cam that has a lift of .497” intake, .520 exhaust, advertised duration of 300/304 degrees, with a duration of 224/234, a lobe center of 109/119, so will lope pretty good and breath good to 6000 rpm. The pistons I am using will bring the compression up to 9.5-10, more if I decide to deck the block and/or heads. Going to port match the heads. Got some roller rockers, haven’t decided on valve springs yet. Hardened push rods and guide plates. Should go well with my ceramic coated headers, Edelbrock carb, Performer Air Gap manifold, and HEI ignition. Maybe will get better than the 193 hp and 263 tq on dyno day last year. Hope so, maybe less than 4 quarts to a tank. Looking forward to the Mopars at the Motorplex, I plan on being there, hope a lot of ya’ll make it. I just read an article on the soon to be Alfa Romeo Guilia. Looks like a Dart to me but has a 2.0 l, intercooled, 4 cylinder, with 276 hp, 295 lb ft. of torque. Capable of 0-60 in 5.5 sec, top speed of 149 mph. Stock with an 8 speed auto, no mention of a stick. Interior looks fabulous, what passes for a chassis and suspension is all aluminum. Car actually looks nice, supposed to handle really well with double wishbone suspension up front, and 4 ½ link in the rear (their words, not mine, lol). Anyway, guess that is all for now. See ya’ll at Ennis. Phill 2016 Annual Cowtown Mopars Spring Car Show The 2016 Cowtown Mopar Performance Team Show is set for June 25, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Off The Wing by Barry Hansen Mopar Spotting on the road...Kansas State Troopers use AWD Chargers, I know because we followed one for several miles down IH 70 through a west Kansas snowstorm in our AWD Caliber. Hayes, Kansas has an automobile museum at 383 Mopar Blvd, just down the road from Ellis, Kansas birthplace of Walter P Chrysler. Jeep Wrangler seems to be the official vehicle of western Kansas as we saw almost as many there as we see in Colorado. In Oklahoma City a Gen III Challenger stretch limo, lime green with black racing stripes the top of the car, 10 pass, 4 dr. Mopar Spotting...“Grandma” a gritty movie starring Lily Tomlin; she drives a primo black 1955 Dodge Royal, Tomlin's actual personal car. Power Tour coming up, June 11 through 18. Several of us plan on driving the whole trip. Hope you are making plans to drive some if not all of it. Consider meet us in Houston, drive to the Austin stop and to DFW or meet us here in DFW and drive to OKC or Wichita if not all the way to KC. NHRA, only one race in March, Gator Nats, Gainsville, FL. Ron Capps, Charger R/T F/C runner up. Allen Johnson picked up Marathon Petroleum as a sponsor, stayed with Dodge and is doing better than the factory sponsored Darts in Pro Stock, went out in 3rd round. NHRA continues to try to kill the new FS class for DragPak Dodges, COPO Camaros and CobraJet Mustangs. Not only do they make them run through the Super Stock classes before they get to run each other they only give driver names in the qualifying and eliminations without the make or model of the cars, even in the final round. Please remember longtime member Morris Counts in your thoughts and deeds. He continues to recover from a fall and a stroke. Take a moment to pick up and mail a get-well card to him and if at all possible stop by for a visit. He is just a little east of our monthly meeting place, Spring Creek BBQ in Bedford. His address is: Morris Counts, c/o Legend Healthcare & Rehab, Room 510A, 900 Westpark Way, Euless, TX 76040-3977. I am as guilty as any not following up on Morris and am remedying this right now.
