(Ilmansyah-CDO KTD Embalut) COLUMN PT Trubaindo Coal Mining Getting to know unique fruit from inland The famous Butter Durian in West Kutai D urian Butter is one of the unique durian of West Kutai. The diameter is about 20-25 cm, its skin is white brownish and greenish, longer and thicker spines. Its seed is quiet large, the fruit taste delicious, tasty, thick, and it has yellowish color. Durian only creates one fruit each season in a year. The famous places to get this durian would be: Dempar Village, Eheng Village, Jontai Village, Bluuq Village, and Intu Lingau Village. About 65 – 100 km from West Kutai Regency. The children watching over the stand to sell durian near the durian trees, full of spirit and not feeling shameful at all, all they are thinking is that they could help their parents once they’re home from school. Meanwhile the parents are searching and gathering durian as many as they can to ease up the gatherer as soon as they come buying all of their durian, they would take it all to Barong Tongkok, West Kutai Regency. This is one of their efforts for their children’s school fees. Try eating this butter durian, it is very tasty. You can feel the sensation from your head to your toe. The gatherers of this butter durian are often racing to find their own customer. There are some who come to the location and buy the entire stock for only Rp 10.000,- to Rp 15.000,- each. There are also some who just wait at Mencimai Village and just stopped any motorcycle carrying butter durian. There are bargaining process if the two parties agreed then the butter durian will all be sold to the buyer without being checked. If it were taken to Samarinda, the durian will have to go through a selection process, because the Samarinda’s people knew well the quality of Melak’s Butter Mentega. Commonly they would sell it between Rp 50.000 to Rp 70.000 each. The delicious taste of this local durian also spreads through many activities. Some of them are in the CDO Forum 2013, one of the best practive being visited is Trubus, exposing about durian, from the seed, planting, fertilization, until the durian selection according to anyone’s taste, because from many variety of durian, there is also Kalimantan durian and Thailand durian. These makes the Bangkok CD team (Khun Visut Lamaram and Khun Suthiroj Mongkolsinpong) amazed and say that it is very outstanding. Also by the time there is a visit to TCM and BEK, President Director of ITM, Khun Pongsak Thongampai accompanied by AVP CC-CD, Tri Harjono were being treated by durian Bentian by head district of Bentian Besar and it tastes really amazing, it turns out that it is tastier than Thailand durian. And so it also happened when there is a visit to Besiq Village, after dinner they were being treated by the “great” durian also. But as for now, the government has not made the Butter Durian their superior product. This is an opportunity for a program idea as an evidence of environmental preservation and economical impact.
