FESTIVAL CHICAGO
January–March 2013
Do you have any unfinished quilts?
Do you need motivation to finish one of your quilts? Winter is a perfect time to
work on those quilts. Some people even call quilting the other winter sport. Do you
have a favorite pattern and need fabric? Do you have a top completed and need
inspiration for quilting? Do you have an extra special piece of fabric purchased on
a trip and need the perfect plan for using it? Do you wish you had a chunk of time
to work on your quilt? We’re here to help you try to find whatever it is you need.
Maybe you need to join one of our clubs—each one exists as a support/stimulous
group. Finding time is the most challenging need. We offer different retreat options
to try to offer time to sew. May you find whatever you need to complete your
projects while gathering ideas for your next ones. Happy quilting.

One of the most challenging parts of making a quilt is
choosing the fabrics. This class will change the way you think
about fabric and shed new light on the process of selecting
fabric for your projects. There is no sewing in this class, so
no heavy equipment to bring. You will bring fabric squares
which will be shared with the other students and used to
construct a fabric selection guide book. This book will serve
as a valuable reference tool when choosing fabrics.

MASTERING HAND QUILTING
Thursday, March 14, 1:00-4:00
Whether you have quilted
before or not, this class is for
you. Begin as if you are new
to hand quilting, and explore
the world of poke-pull (or
stab stitch) quilting. Executed
differently from the running stitch, poke-pull quilting is
easier to do and allows you to make quilting stitches that are
straight and even, and look the same on the front of the quilt
as they do on the back. No more calluses, no sore fingers,
and no need for a thimble, poke-pull quilting is especially
good for those with arthritis, carpal tunnel, or limited
flexibility due to mastectomies. You will also learn template
making and transference of design.
