Holiday supplies need to be purchased, homes need to be decorated and gifts must be bought and wrapped. During the busy holiday season, men and women pressed for time may be tempted to turn to the convenience of fast food come mealtime. While these fast foods may be convenient, the cost of dining out each night and the lack of adequate nutrition may not justify the convenience. But no matter how busy men and women may be during the holiday season, there are still ways to eat healthy meals that don’t take much time to prepare. Prep work Meal preparation can take a lot of time. But buying ingredients in advance, and saving the trouble of last-minute trips to the grocery store, can make prep work go much more smoothly and quickly. Devote some time on the weekend to stocking up on ingredients you will need for the week ahead. Stock up on storage containers so that food can be packaged into the refrigerator or freezer. Prepare rice and parboil pasta to use as a starchy and filling base to some recipes. Peel, dice and chop vegetables and store in containers for later use during the week. Separate meat and poultry into smaller, meal-sized containers so you only thaw out what you need for a given meal. Have a plan Create a menu plan so you will know which recipes to create and when. Build room into your meal plan for really quick meals, such as a soup and sandwich night or breakfast for dinner. Planning a meal weekly meal schedule saves you time because you won’t be searching for recipes each weeknight. Such planning also helps you to ensure WEEKLY SALES EVERY MONDAY HOSKING SALES Weekly Sales Every Monday 11:30 with Misc. & Small animals, 1:00 Dairy, followed by feeders, sheep, lamb, goats, pigs. Seek help from slow cookers A slow cooker can be a real time-saver during the holiday season. Slow cookers can be set to cook while you’re out of the house. When you return, you will find the meal ready and waiting. Slow cookers are very popular, and as a result it’s easy to find recipes both online and in cookbooks. Slow cookers can be used to prepare sauces, soups, roasts, casseroles, and so much more. To make slow cookers even more convenient, prepackage ingredients for recipes in advance, storing them in a plastic zip-top bag. Then simply pour the ingredients into the slow cooker in the morning before leaving for work. Expand your horizons A meal need not always be a three-course offering. On days you expect to be particularly busy, plan for a no-heat meal. Cold cut sandwiches and salad can fit the bill. A platter of finger foods, such as cheeses and crackers, fruit, and vegetable sticks with dips, can be filling as well. If the kids are requesting a bowl of cereal, let them have it and save time. Eggs and reheated leftovers and quick and easy to prepare. Dine out Budget for a few meals on the go. When shopping at the mall, stop into a restaurant for a sit-down meal. Doing so will save time and you can enjoy a well-deserved respite from cooking duties. A slow cooker is a valuable asset for home cooks pressed for time during the busy holiday season. The sounds of whistles and coaches yelling and the parents visiting in their cars and in camp chairs on the sidelines watching their young men practice football. For the Dolgeville Jr. Pee Wee football team there was a lot of optimism going into the season. After falling last season in the title game to Waterville most of the entire team returned. Also, the Blue Devils’ neighbors Little Falls did not have enough players for a Jr. Pee Wee team so three young men from the Mounties joined the Blue Devils. After a promising scrimmage against a good Ilion team the Blue Devils started their regular season with a 32-6 win over Sauquoit on a very hot Sunday. This was followed up by wins over Canastota 340, Marcy-Deerfield 35-6, Clinton 33-6, Kuyahoora 1-0, and Waterville 34-0. In week seven on a blustery and cold day the Blue Devils faced the undefeated Mohawk Mohicans and Tolpa field. After a scoreless first half Dolgeville used a smothering defense and power running to come away with a hard fought 12-0 win. The first round of the Tri-Valley playoffs featured a rematch between the Blue Devils and Marcy-Deerfield where the Dolgeville came out on top 41-0. The final was another rematch between Mohawk and Dolgeville at Colgate University’s Andy Kerr field on a beautiful fall day. As in their first meeting the first half ended in a 0-0 draw. In the second half the Blue Devils put together two drives that went the length of the field eating up the yardage and time on the clock. Dolgeville again came out on top this time with a 14-0 victory. In nine games through the regular season and into the playoffs their first string defense was unscored upon. It truly seemed like a magical season not only for the victories, but to see how these young men came together as a team and made their parents, fans and the entire Dolgeville community proud. This years team included, Jared Bilinski, Michael Blaskey, A.J. Muslim scholars say that Muslims can use violent force to maintain or protect their faith. The key is “May take a violent form”. Webster Dictionary states violent as intrusive violence. Do you believe intense violence could include murdering of the people of Paris, France? Is this a means of protecting their Muslim faith? Now let’s attempt to put a handle on ISIS. In the last Hello Again we stated that ISIS (Jihadi) may be the most dangerous movement Christianity and democracy will ever encounter. Now, let’s COUNTRY EDITOR say what it really is. It is the most forceful evil murdering enemy the world will ever face, ISIS is growing in strength by leaps and bounds. It is not something to live through with an attempt to understand, but to wipe out as you would a pack of mad dogs. ISIS means or is known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. It is a Jihadist extremist militant group and self-proclaimed Islamic State and Caliphate. Simply stated the more you try to understand what ISIS and Jihadist means, the more confused you may become. To try to understand it is a good head start. They are an extremely fast growing, evil murdering, huge group of people sharing in a common religion – Islam. Do not misunderstand what I am saying – all Muslims are not members of ISIS but it NOW OFFERING Home Maintenance Products Replacement Windows & Doors, Rakes, Shovels, Driveway Sealer, Chlorine, Wheelbarrows and More! Mrs. Hillary Clinton has taken the stand that it is wrong to suggest that all or even most Muslims support the ISIS movement. I will never support Mrs. Clinton’s effort to become president of the country. I do believe she is a socialist. I will not knowingly ever support a socialist. She may be correct in stating that ISIS is not a Muslim movement. Let me explain. If 2,000 Christians (those who maintain they are believers and supporters of the belief of Jesus Christ = Christians) were to ban together under an assumed brotherhood name, started killing without mercy, would the Muslims be correct in believing that their murdering activity is Christian? Would they believe all Christians and Christianity is wrong and should be wiped out? It would be reasonable that some Muslims could think that way, wouldn’t it? Here is the real question, should the governments of the world gamble on the ISIS people to act as Christians or faithful Muslims, or if true to their faith, Muslims are hiding their faces or covering up for the ISIS members – let ISIS get what they deserve or should we treat them as the mad Let’s gather around the pot bellied chunk stove at Charlie Hearn’s store with a group of farmers. The subject is a bunch of foreign dogs have invaded several of the farmer’s herds and calf pens and killed several of their stock. How do you think the conversation would go? Would they say we better wait and see what the head of the conservation department has to say or let’s wait until all of the farmers learn about this and see what they have to say? If you think that is what they would say I’m afraid you don’t know about our good old American farm stock. I can hear the entire group in unison — “Charlie we all need 2 or 3 boxes of shotgun shells plus a box or two of rifle shells.” “We have to kill everyone of those mad dogs before their number increases.” We must think as the farmers. The pack of murdering humans known as ISIS are using the Muslims faith as a false shield and must be hunted down and killed. How important to the New York economy are our dairy farmers? New York State dairy farmers produced $2.4 billion last year. New York State is the 3rd largest dairy producing state in the entire country. A father, attempting to teach his son how life was when he was the son’s age said, “By five o’clock in the morning I had already fed the chickens gathered the eggs, slopped the hogs and shoveled out the cow manure. I thought nothing of it .” “I understand dad,” said the son, “I don’t think much of it either.” It has been said of politicians they have infinite capacity to have their mouths open agreeing with their party on a stupid subject. During Dr. Snigs boring lecture on child physiology a friend jabbed my ribs and said — look most of the class is asleep. I did not appreciate the jab and replied “you woke me up for that?” Dig out your long johns, winter is on its way. We will soon follow the bunches of geese heading south. Gaggle – skein both equal a bunch. We certainly enjoy the winter months in West Palm Beach, Florida but our hearts love the Mohawk Valley best. The Little Red Bike will miss all of you and so will I. God Bless you and your family! Fred Lee & Family As vulgar and unAmerican as this language may appear, the members of the ISIS must be hunted down. Their intent is to take over the entire world by murdering force. Daily — right now they are killing everyone they can, young, old, men, women and even children. Small Engine Repair CHARLES D. While many people may shop ‘til they drop on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, those days still account for a relatively small amount of the hundreds of billions of dollars that are spent each holiday season. Shoppers now have a bevy of options at their disposal as they embark on holiday shopping season. Traditional in-store retailers are still around, and online shopping continues to grow in popularity with each holiday season. But many holiday shoppers are looking to buy local this holiday season, and such a decision can pay a host of dividends for both shoppers and the communities they call home. • Buying local benefits your local economy. Studies from Civic Economics, an economics and strategics planning firm, found that independent, locally-owned retailers return a far greater percentage of their revenue into their local economies than national chain stores. One such study examined the disparity between revenue recirculation among independent, locallyowned businesses in Raleigh, North Carolina, versus four major national chains in the city. The former recirculated 51.1 percent of revenue into the local economy, while the latter recirculated less than 14 percent. Similar results were discovered in many cities, indicating that buying local not only benefits local business owners, but also the communities those owners and their customers call home. • Buying local creates jobs in your community. One of the biggest ways local business owners in Raleigh recirculated their revenue in the local economy was job creation. While national chains also create jobs, such jobs only benefit your community if the chains are located within your community. If your local mall is a considerable drive away, chances are the chains within that mall are not employing many of your fellow community members. Local businesses in your community are more likely to employ residents of your town. • Shopping local may provide access to more unique gifts. In addition to the economic benefits of buying local, shoppers Shopping local this holiday season can benefit your community in various ways. Whatchamacallits This week’s Whatchamacallit is a tiny silver heart-shaped instrument. It’s very small and the metal is polished smooth, possibly from years of handling. It opens with little or no effort; a simple slide to either side reveals another part — a secondary piece of metal with two raised points on it. The points may possibly be some type of calibrator or unit of measurement. Stamped onto the inside metal piece are the partially rubbed off numbers 9 and 5, however they are very faint and might not even be original markings. If you know what this device is or would like to offer up your best guess, please call or email Branden at Lee Publications. Do you have your own Whatchamacallit? Send a photo and short description to [email protected] or call Branden at 518-673-0145 may find merchandise made by local craftsmen is more unique than mass-produced items found on the shelves of national retailers. Recipients may cherish more unique items that they cannot find on their own, and that appreciation may even spur them to visit more local retailers after the holiday season has come and gone, benefiting their own communities in so doing. • Local business may provide a more personal touch. Buying from national chains has its advantages, but customer service is not always one of them. Should your loved ones encounter problems with their gift that requires assistance, they might be forced to wait on the phone for extended periods of time as they and thousands of others wait for customer service representatives to answer their calls. Local businesses do not deal with nearly the volume of customers as national retailers and, therefore, are capable of addressing concerns more quickly and personally than large chains. Buying local not only benefits small business owners, but it also pays dividends for their customers and the communities they call home. 12 • December 4, 2015 COUNTRY EDITOR Country Editor Number / Classification 20 Air Compressors 25 Air Tools 35 Announcements 45 Antiques 55 Appraisal Services 75 ATV 80 Auctions 82 Auto Body 110 Bedding Plants 120 Bees-Beekeeping 130 Bird Control 140 Books 155 Building Materials/ Supplies 157 Building Repair 160 Buildings For Sale 161 Bulk Foods / Spices 165 Business Opportunities 170 Butchering Supplies 173 Carpentry 175 Cars, Trucks, Trailers 180 Catalogs 182 Catering 190 Chain Saws 195 Cheesemaking Supplies 205 Christmas 214 Clocks & Repair 215 Collectibles 216 Clothing 235 Computers 253 Consignment 265 Construction Equipment For Rent 275 Construction Machinery Wanted 277 Construction Services 280 Construction Supplies 312 Crafts 325 Custom Butchering 330 Custom Services 360 Deer-Butchering & Hides 370 Dogs 410 Electrical 415 Employment Wanted 440 Farm Machinery For Sale 445 Farm Machinery Wanted 447 Farm Market Items 460 Fencing 470 Financial Services 480 Fish 483 Flooring 495 For Rent or Lease 500 For Sale 510 Fresh Produce, Nursery 525 Fruits & Berries 527 Furniture 529 Garage Sales 530 Garden Supplies 535 Generators 537 Gifts 575 Greenhouse Supplies 585 Guns 587 Hair Styling 589 Hardware 600 Health Care/Products 605 Heating 610 Help Wanted 653 Hotel / Motel 683 Jewelers 700 Lawn & Garden 711 Lessons 760 Lumber & Wood Products 790 Maple Syrup Supplies 805 Miscellaneous 810 Mobile Homes 811 Monuments 812 Multi Media 813 Music 815 Motorcycles 817 Nails 820 Nurseries 910 Plants 950 Real Estate For Sale 955 Real Estate Wanted 960 RVs & Motor Homes 975 Rentals 980 Restaurant Supplies 1040 Services Offered 1075 Snowblowers 1080 Snowmobiles 1096 Sports 1109 Thrift 1140 Trailers 1147 Trains 1148 Travel 1165 Trees 1170 Truck Parts & Equipment 1180 Trucks 1187 Vacuum 1190 Vegetable 1200 Veterinary 1205 Wanted Announcements Announcements ADVERTISING DEADLINE FRIDAY • 2:00 PM PO Box 121, 6113 State Hwy. 5 Palatine Bridge, NY 13428 800-836-2888 • Fax: 518-673-2381 [email protected] Construction Services ANTHONY MACRI PAVING CONCRETE MASONRY (Week Prior to Each Friday Dated Paper) For as little as $4.00 - place a classified ad in The Country Editor Call Peg at 1-800-836-2888 or 518-673-0111 or email [email protected] Announcements Appliances Commercial & Residential Call With Your Needs 315-866-2733 or 315-717-3333 Appliances CHECK YOUR AD - ADVERTISERS should check their ADVERTISERS Call Peg at 1-800-836-2888 or 518-673-0111 Automotive For Rent ATTENTION: Remanufactured starters, alternators, generator.
