We will launch things through the air, send them plummeting toward the ground, and even make things transform and disappear right before your eyes! Throw on your lab coat and get ready to experience forces and reactions through several exciting, hands-on experiments! Enjoy this spectacular adventure and be swept away to a place where truly ‘super’ heroes really do exist! Clues to discerning your ancestors’ personalities are also discussed. Part of our genealogy series. We now offer our newsletter in large print which will be available at the library for your reading pleasure Tuesday, June 9th @ 6:00pm - Step by step procedure in finding records on the most popular Genealogy website that contains records such as: Birth, Marriage and Death, Passports, Cemeteries, Social Security Records, Military Records, Newspapers. Part of our genealogy series. Monday, June 15th @ 6:00pm - Everyone has creativity within them! Come paint a picture using special techniques taught by Wendy from Artytime. Adult Programs Continued Inside Tuesday, June 30th @ 11:00am Ages 4 and Under Children’s author, Lucy Bermingham will read from her new book Tickety Boo At The Zoo. Regular storytime starts Monday, July 6th. Wednesday, July 8th @ 6:30pm Ages 10 and Up Make a string art wall hanging using superhero symbols. Monday, July 13th @ 2:00pm Ages 8 and Up Tuesday, June 30th @ 2:00pm Ages 5 to 7 Learn the history of superheroes and create a superhero identity just for you! Wednesday, July 1st @ 1:00pm ALL AGES Be a hero for your library by planting flowers to help beautify our surroundings! Using a special, scientific recipe, make bright green ooze to ward off the enemy, “The Evil Shredder” Tuesday, July 14th @ 2:00pm Ages 5 to 7 Soar over tall buildings at the speed of sound… or at least create a picture of yourself as a super hero! Monday, July 6th @ 2:00pm Ages 5 to 7 AND LEGENDS Hear stories about heroes from Annie Oakley to Paul Bunyan. Tuesday, July 7th @ 2:00pm Ages 8 and Up Construct a superhero with a clay pot, paint, and trims. Wednesday, July 8th @ 2:00pm Ages 5 to 7 Create your own superhero persona then make a cape, mask, and costume to help bring out your superpowers! Wednesday, July 15th @ 6:30pm Ages 10 and Up Decorate your room or bedroom door with a colorful comic book letter. You can make your initials, a word, or your name. Thursday, July 16th @ 2:00pm Ages 5 to 7 Make a unique and colorful bookmark using the pages from your favorite comics. Monday, July 20th @ 2:00pm Ages 8 and Up Pow! Zap! Bang! Make a cool colorful pendant, keychain, or bracelet using Shrinky Dinks. Thursday, July 23rd @ 2:00pm Ages 5 and Up Design a picture frame and take a selfie with a superhero! with Police Officer Omar Olayan Wednesday, August 5th @ 7:00pm Families will work in teams to complete incredibly fun tasks in one minute. Thursdays in July @ 2:00pm Ages 4 through Teens Monday, July 27th @ 2:00pm Ages 5 and Up Danielle is back for Yoga! Join us for a fun, relaxing, afternoon! Join a hero of our community as he explains important facts about how to stay safe in your community. July 2nd, July 9th, July 16th, and July 23rd Tuesday, July 28th @ 2:00pm Ages 5 to 7 Who’s helping in your neighborhood? Learn about heroes in your community and make cards for them. Tuesdays: July 14th and 21st Ages 8 and Up Learn to sign the alphabet, stories, and songs. with Mrs. Dolan Wednesday, July 29th @ 2:00pm Ages 5 to 7 Ages 5 to 7 on Tuesdays: July 21st & August 4th @ 2:00pm Ages 8 and Up on Wednesdays: July 22nd & August 5th @ 2:00pm Use your unique fingerprints to make pieces of art. Thursday, July 30th @ 2:00pm Ages 8 and Up Use mixed media to design your own comic book. Bring selfies if you want to star in your own comic. Monday, August 3rd @ 2:00pm Ages 8 and Up Create a superhero mask and cape, then make up and act out stories from cue cards. Fridays: July 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st and August 7th 12:00pm to 1:00pm - Ages 10 and Up Explore the magic and wonder of acting and theater by performing mini skits and playing fun performance games. Participants will perform a play at end of the Summer Reading Program. Wednesday, August 12th @ 6:00pm To attend you must have read at least two age appropriate library books. The kids from the drama club will put on a play to celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Program! Grand prize winners will be announced and children can make their own sundae. In Memoriam: Clair Burgeson Library Trustee 1974-1977 Clair Burgeson passed away on March 30th, 2015 in Boca Raton, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, his three children: Stephen, David and Lisa and his six grandchildren. Clair had a love of learning, nature, spirituality and philosophy. Due to his love of learning, Clair earned many diplomas and degrees including a Master’s Degree in Library Sciences from Columbia University. In 1967, Clair took the position of Director of Librarians in the Ramapo Central School District. From 1974-1977 Clair served as a Sloatsburg Library Trustee and had a big part in helping the Library move into its current location. He will be greatly missed. Contributions in Clair's memory can be made to the Sloatsburg Public Library, 1 Liberty Rock Road, Sloatsburg, NY 10974 or the Audubon Society. Join us for this two night presentation as we learn the basics of PowerPoint and create a slideshow using our own pictures! Please bring your own laptop running PowerPoint. (Birth - 18 mos) - Thursdays @ 10:30am This program’s primary aim is to introduce rhymes, songs, finger-plays and books to babies. (18 mos - 36 mos) - Mondays @ 10:30am Join us for stories, finger-plays and a craft. Parents can bring child into children’s room, but they must stay in the library. Wednesday, July 15th @ 7:00pm Join us for a fun spellbinding presentation of mind-reading, illusion, mesmerizing magic, mentalism, feats of memory and hypnosis as we learn that we are capable of much more than we ever imagined! (2 - 5 yrs old) - Tuesdays @ 10:30am Join us for stories, finger-plays and a craft. Parents can bring child into children’s room, but they must stay in the library. CLASSES START MONDAY, JULY 6th All programs are age-appropriate; proof of age is required at time of registration. Children must be within the specified age range by June 2015. For safety reasons, the Library Board policy requires one adult for every two children. Siblings are always welcome! Pre-registration is required for all Storytimes (max 12). Wednesday, July 22nd @ 7:00pm Presented by Rick Feingold of Bergen Community College Louis Zamperini’s B-24 bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean in 1943. He survived 47 days in a lifeboat before capture by the Japanese Navy. Hear how Zamperini learned to forgive his captors. Video of the 2014 film “Unbroken” and the CBS documentary “The Great Zamperini” with Bob Simon will be featured.
