With the loss of some key components, the Cubs were forced to recruit in the off-season. Bringing in the likes of SS Steve Renaud and C Evan Hammond, who have contributed to the Cubs with solid offense and stellar defense. The addition of those two gentlemen and the likes of OF Ben Milinkovich and MI Chad Keohane have given the Cubs great depth and some extra pop in the lineup combined with vets CF Jeff Gordon, INF Chris Armstrong, and defending batting champ Ryan Dillon. With MVP runner-up Bobby Brooks returning, as well as Tyler Dale and Andrew Spurrell, the additions of Dillon James, Max George-Lane, and Brendan Saville make this a legit pitching rotation. With Kevin Brunet contributing offensively and taking on closing duties, teams will not want the Cubs hanging around late in games. Watch out for the Cubs in the second half of the 2012 season. Capital City Cubs Final Thoughts… “Start washing our hands, we’re getting rings!" However, as was the case in 2011, the Brewers couldn’t turn their pennant winning season into a playoff championship. After narrowly defeating the Panthers in the semifinals, the Brewers lost to the Capital City Cubs 3 games to 2 in the finals. Congratulations to the Cubs on their first ever Tier 1 Championship. The offence in 2012 had one of its strongest seasons ever with 10 players batting over .300, a team total of 14 home runs, and a team batting average of .305. Geoff Magnus led the team with a .453 average joining Adam Oattes (.403) in the .400 club. Nepean Brewers Season Recap (2) The pitching staff in 2011 was led by 20 year old stand-out Nick Gazo (30 innings, 34 K’s, 4-0 record, 2.12 ERA and 1.58 WHIP. Additionally, Geoff Magnus, James Morrice, and Jeff Karan all had outstanding records as part of a formidable pitching staff. The MVP honour in 2012 went undisputedly to the defending Tier 1 MVP Geoff Magnus who excelled in both offensive, defensive, and pitching categories. We couldn’t blame the lack of team bonding, as we hit the beach in Wasaga, we married off our star pitcher in Mitchell Ontario after dressing him up like his mother, and we took a team “trip” to Los Cabos Mexico in January, where the John Deere Tractor Company was well represented!! While there we did a bit of clubbing, and may have got into a bit of trouble in the seedy parts of town. We managed to relive the Hangover as if it were ground hog day, and all returned heavier than when we left, but ready for spring training!! We also dedicated our season to a future NFL Hall of Famer, Steeler great Hines Ward, perhaps the greatest wide-out of all time. The Braves look forward to another successful year next year, and proudly will remain the “oldest” team in Tier 2, but the one that consumes the most beer!!! See you all next year!!!! However, a few years ago with only one returning player we decided we needed a new name, since we were basically a new team. For some odd reason we came upon the name "Fireballers" which was exactly the opposite of our team. That year we had an average fastball of 59mph, with a strike zone somewhere in the backstop. We even had one Fireballer (a ringer) that struck out 19 batters with the other two runners being thrown out at second base and still lost that game. We went 0-18 that year. I know that hurts the eyes and imagine having to tell your significant other or your parents "Yeah, we lost, stop asking, I'll let you know when we win" 18 straight times. Since we sucked so much, we knew we had to change our name again however, we did develop a solid core that would help us in the coming years. We found the name Black Sox appropriate as we went forward. After all, we needed a reasoning to explain all of our losses. No better excuse than betting against yourself. BlackSox Season Recap (2) Through non-stop recruiting, hard work, and a bit of luck we eventually had a Tier 4 playoff caliber team, and then made our way to Tier 3 this year. After starting off this past season 1-3 their was plenty of doubt, but we were determined to prevail. We would do our best to fight our way into the playoffs with a solid month of July. If you played against us you know that to be true, that our team talks more than our fair share. We even have two brothers that entertained us by making sarcastic remarks to each other after every play. Our team tends to leave all of our emotions out on the field, which we've learned can be both a good and a bad thing. We even had two teammates quit, and a number of ejections. Through it all we stuck together. It wasn't until the playoffs that we found a way to play within our strengths and play selflessly. We started to play for the team, rather than the individual. After our Game 3 win against the Sharks (our biggest rival), our team had an "epiphany" if you will, that we had the team to win it all. After another couple of tough series we would go on to win the Tier 3 Championship which was a Black Sox first. BlackSox Season Recap (3) Just a couple of quick shout outs. First is Tom Coyne, whenever we were down he held us together. He provided ridiculous game day texts, vital in game adjustments, speeches, and his undying love for beer gave us a reason to stay after every game. Phil Martin for being a great team leader always keeping us in check, also, holding down the stats and the team website. And last but not least Eric Helander (The Big Easy). He was arguably our best hitter and will be greatly missed as he moves back to B.C. There's many others on the team we'd like to give shout outs too but they all know how much they contributed to the team in specific ways. If there's any teams out that that struggled this past season, look no further than us. Recruiting team players first instead of just talent got us to where we are. Our team is like a family who pick eachother up every single game. We believe this chemistry to be invaluable in our overall success. Thanks for the season NCBL, best of luck to everyone next year. We look forward to the challenge of defending the Tier 3 Championship. Fourth place was an acceptable finish in what turned out to be a very even and competitive tier. A well balanced offense proved to be our strength this year with a team batting average of 0.350 and 49 extra base hits; everyone pulled their weight at the plate. Inconsistent defence that looked great at times and lacking at others seemed to be our downfall this year as often that single bad inning in the field seemed unavoidable. A first round playoff exit at the hands of the eventual champions in a very close and hard fought series with the Black Sox was disappointing, but we look forward to next season with the hope that it will provide the same level of competition it did this year. The Sharks would also like to thank the league and umpires for another great season. 2012 NCBL BANQUET Tier IV A Shaun Keay © Production Braumeisters Best season by record : 17-3 in 2002 All time record : 188-227-8 Championships : 2002 Past Awards Mike Gazo – MVP – 2002 Mike Gazo – Best Pitcher – 2002 Jeff Karran – MVP – 2009 Jeff Karran – MVP – 2010 Jeff Karran – Best Batter – 2010 Ross Randleman – Best Batter - 2011 Braumeisters Final Thoughts… "We really needed former SweatSock Chris Chapman to play more. Or in our case, it was basically a small bump in the road, being games 1 through 5 and our record was at 2-2-1, before falling off a cliff and free falling throughout the season then hitting rock bottom after the last game of the season. Our season was a miserable failure from basically any perspective you look at it. We never really competed and our level of fun never exceeded 0 on a scale of 1-10. This season makes me wonder why I not only invested $300+ to play and manage, but also those countless, thoughtless nights spent babysitting grown men when my time could’ve been much better utilized shoving my thumb up my ass. With respect to next year, I expect this team to, believe it or not, be even worse than this past so prepare your teams for non-stop whining, bitching and complaining. On a more positive note, you can basically notch your games versus the Express next year as wins upon receiving your schedule next spring.” Express Final Thoughts… “We won’t get better until Andrew Hazard is back in our starting lineup.” Fighting Irish Best season by record : 9-11-0 in 2012 All time record : 26-61-1 Championships : none Fighting Irish Final Thoughts… "We would have won more games if Sylvain showed up more." Ottawa LumberJacks Best season by record : 10-10-0 All time record : 10-10-0 Championships : none First season in the NCBL LumberJacks Season Recap It started with a dream... One man who desperately wanted play baseball, but had sadly been turned away in tryouts, saw the NCBL's "Players Looking for Teams" list and said "there's enough guys on that list to make a whole team"! And so it began... Weekly practices with a hand full of passionate players with no promise of games, a team or anything beyond a promise to apply for acceptance into the NCBL for the 2012 season. After a summer of hard work, the Jacks played a few exhibition games against some gracious, existing NCBL teams in September 2011. March 4, 2012... the hard work pays off as the team is accepted into Tier 4. Over a year of hard work, built up excitement and heightened expectations came to a head on the 14th of May. Sadly, things didn't go according to plan as the Jacks fell in 20-1 in what was probably one of the most lopsided losses in NCBL history... BUT... we played. Things turned around quickly as the Jacks reeled off three wins a row to take the Tier by surprise. The streaky season continued, but in the end a 10-10 regular season record and 5th place finish was a great first year for this young franchise. After taking a 1 game lead in their first playoff series, a strange sequence of events and a complete inability to close games lead to an extremely disappointing loss to the Coyotes, ending the season sooner than the Jacks had hoped. After a year of lessons learned and experience gained, these Jacks are here to stay and will be looking to build on the success of 2012... with a Tier 4 Championship in 2013! Red Sox Final Thoughts… “Go Yankees!” The Reverse Vampires (TRV) Best season by record : 9-11-0 in 2012 All time record : 17-41-2 Championships : none The Reverse Vampires Season Recap TRV had it's finest season in the NCBL in 2012, highlighted by our first playoff series. The team took many strides this year. Some highlights: 1. No games at Southgate where we have never won 2. Dave Crane making the majority of games 3. Connor Sheehan's ejection at Sanscartier 4. Logan Duke's defensive gems in the Playoffs 5. T-birds gap singles 6. Stephen Mackie = No walks for second straight season 7. More then Doubling run output from 2011 8. Amassing over $600 dollars on the season beer fund TRV is also looking to change team names in 2013, from "The Vampires" to "Los Vampiros"....seriously. I support The Reverse Vampires!! TRV Final Thoughts… “For the final time, a reverse vampire is a vampire who craves the sun and hates the night.
