Make that dream
bedroom come true!
How to make up the perfect bed
• Use flat sheets to make the bed and turn the top sheet
neatly over the duvet. A pretty quilt at the foot of the
bed will also do wonders!
• Work from the head towards the foot of the bed and
arrange four big square pillows
• Add two more smaller ones in different designs to
complement and a single cushion to give it a complete
look
• Place a seasonal throw on top of the quilt at the foot
of the bed

FIND YOUR IDEAL SLEEPING PARTNER
Once upon a time the bedroom was the last room
to be decorated. Now we’ve woken up to the fact
that it can be more than just a place to sleep. So if
you want a room that’s designed for you to work,
rest and play in, the inspiration starts here.
4 types of mattresses
to choose
1
HOW DID YOU SLEEP LAST NIGHT?
Sleeping well can significantly improve your health and
quality of life, which is why it’s important to find just
the right mattress. IKEA SULTAN mattresses are made
according to local sizes. You’ll find everything you need
to sleep soundly every night for years to come by just
following these easy steps.
3 easy steps to choosing a mattress
You can determine which mattress is just right for you on the basis of 3 main factors; your
weight and height, your preferred sleeping position and your first-hand experience.
Step 1 : Your weight and height
Find Your Ideal Bed
Start with your preferred mattress firmness, and begin by determining whether you prefer a firm or soft
mattress. Each model is labelled with a firmness scale that will help you make this decision. The firmness
of your mattress should correspond to your weight and height. As a general rule, the heavier you are,
the firmer your mattress should be.
Loft bed
You don’t need a big room for
this bed since it doesn’t take
much floor space. This bed can be
divided into two single beds. The
ladder mounts on the right or the
left side of the bed.
HEMNES bunk bed RM1,299
Antique stain. L197xW102, H179cm.
Day bed
Two functions in one: A sofa in
the daytime which turns into a
bed for the night. Space under
the bed can be utilised with IKEA
bed storage boxes.
TROMSNES day-bed RM545
White. L199xW101, H118cm.
Four-poster bed
Adding a sheer fabric canopy
complements the chunky feel of
this fantastically priced bed and
gives a more modern finish than
traditional drapes. Just change the
fabric for a different look and mood.
KONGSVIK four-poster bed
RM1,095 Dark brown. L200xW161,
H210cm.
Medium-low bed
Ideal for rooms with low ceilings,
medium-low bed has oriental
influences. Add bed storage boxes
under the bed - it is a fabulous
spacesaver. Keep spare bed linen
and towels in them, freeing up your
cupboard and wardrobe for clothes.
RAMBERG queen bed RM549
Medium brown. L196xW158cm.
Step 2 : Your sleeping position is also
important
Your own preferred position will not determine your
mattress choice. However, when you try out a mattress
in the IKEA store, it is a good idea to adopt your normal
sleeping position as a way of finding out which one feels
most “right”.
• If you sleep on your side, you may prefer a mattress that
is less firm.
• If you sleep on your back, you may prefer a slightly
firmer mattress.
• If you sleep on your stomach, we recommend that
you try out one of IKEA’s firmer mattresses.
Step 3 : Your mattress choices
Now you’re ready to test which of the four different ways of sleeping you like best; spring mattresses,
wooden-base spring mattresses, foam and latex mattresses or mattress base bed sets.
Visit the IKEA store to test your preferred mattress. Here are a few things to remember when you visit the
IKEA store to test your preferred mattress; try lying in different positions (paying most attention to your
usual sleeping position); make sure you can turn over easily. Remember to test a pillow at the same time,
to find the best support for your neck. And finally, if you share a bed, be sure to test the mattress with your
partner.
Spring mattresses
are used with a
separate bed frame.
They distribute the
weight of your body
evenly, eliminating
excess pressure on any
part of your body. They can be turned
in all directions to ensure even wear and
extend the life of the mattress.
2
Wooden-base
spring mattresses
have a self-supporting
frame, so they don’t
require an additional
bed frame. Just attach
legs, a mattress pad
for customised comfort,
and you have a complete bed.
3
Foam and latex
mattresses provide
your body with firm
support, while being
soft and resilient. Their
flexible construction
makes these mattresses
ideal for use with IKEA
adjustable slatted bed bases.
4
Mattress bases
combined with a
spring mattress and
legs, stand high from
the ground, making
it easy to get in and
out of bed. SULTAN
mattress bases and
mattress match, giving your bed set a
coordinated and luxurious look.
Rest easy with a
20-year guarantee*
Don’t lose sleep
wondering if your
mattress will last!
IKEA mattresses
come with a
20-year guarantee for quality and
durability. So if the springs, wooden
frame or foam core should fail within
that time, we will gladly replace it.

MYSA MÅNE quilt RM95
White. L150xW200cm.
IKEA MYSA quilt comes in down, feather and synthetic fibres. Only you know which
filling suits you and your sleeping habits best. Well, here are some facts to help in
your decision.
• Down feels soft and fluffy and “breathes” to release the perspiration produced
during sleep.
• Feather pillows feel firmer and more resilient.
• Synthetic fibres feel soft and fluffy when they have been treated with silicone,
which is why they often produce a similar sensation to down.
• Synthetic fibres can be washed frequently, but down or feather pillows should be
washed three to four times a year.
IKEA GOSA pillows come in different
types, so you can be sure to find one
that’s just right for you. To make selection
easier for you, IKEA has devised a simple
scale indicating the height of the pillow.

GOSA ergonomic pillows are made of
visco-elastic form (or “memory foam”),
which reacts to the body’s weight and
temperature, moulding itself to the
contours of your head and neck. It returns

children’s
bedroom
Baby
Safety is of utmost importance due to their
inquisitive nature. Make sure that small things are
out of sight because babies have a tendency of
putting things in their mouth. And babies need
lots of storage space too. Therefore, cabinets and
drawers can help keep things organize and within
easy reach. Invest in this baby changing table
which can be modified into a cabinet when they
grow older.
Universe to play,
rule, rest in and
grow with your
child
Every child deserve a special place
of their own. More so as they are
the most important people in the
world!
Creating the ideal bedroom – one
that they’ll love and you won’t have
to change too often. We’ll show you
how you can change the same room
easily as your child grows older,
according to their needs and
developments.
Run, rock, build and sing – that’s a
good description of a child’s day.
A safe room and things to play
with are the best gifts we can give
our children. At IKEA, we have
everything from comfortable beds
and colourful toys to practical
changing tables. Most can also
be adapted to your growing child.
And because children use toys and
furniture in ways we grown-ups
could never imagine, we subject
all our children’s products to the
toughest safety tests in the world.
Only the best is good enough.

Toddler
Toddlers are normally at the ‘adventurous’ stage
where they’ll try new things every now and then.
Improvise is not a new word to them. New toys
are normally torn apart to see their finer details
and what can be made out of them. Storage
space is important too to keep those ‘new’ toys!
An extendable bed can be very cost effective as
it can be adjusted to accomodate a child’s height
as they grow.

Junior
They are at their most demanding stage. An
organized room filled with the latest gadgets
can do wonders. They’ll sit quietly in their room
enjoying the latest DVD or game. To keep things
organize, make sure they have enough shelves
and cabinets for their favourite DVDs, t-shirts,
jeans and those small gadgets i.e. MP3 players
and thumb drives.
Teenager
This is the stage where they can’t differentiate
between the ‘needs’ and the ‘wants’. Cabinets
and shelves can help keep those unwanted and
unneeded stuff away. Sometimes, a ‘Lost & found’
cabinet is essential for them to find things and
keep their anger at bay.

Make lights work for you!
Use lamps to create a particular mood in your bedroom or
to simply read a book. Bedside lighting is for a romantic
mood, while lighting near your wardrobe helps you find your
clothes and other personal items quickly - especially when
you are in a rush. You can also use lights to accentuate your
favourite piece of art. Here are some tips on the different
types of lighting.
Ceiling lamp
The simplest solution for general lighting, it is perfect for illuminating
the entire room without casting strong shadows. It comes in
handy when cleaning, tidying or even packing a suitcase in the
bedroom.
Ceiling spotlights
These can be used as general lighting, and
are also effective for showing off artwork or
attractive details in the bedroom. Aim them
at pictures or onto your favourite items, or at
a coloured glass vase for an instant designer
effect.
Pendant lamp
Pendant lamps shed a pleasant cone of light on the area directly
below it. While providing a diffused light to the whole room, they
can emphasise a beautiful bedcover or a lovely desk.
12
Table lamp
A beautiful table lamp can be a real design
feature for your dresser or bedside table.
It cast a lovely pool of light on the surface.
Also choose a coloured shade for more effect.
Having a lamp on your bedside table can
create a romantic effect in your bedroom.
Wall lamp/spotlights
With these, you get light exactly where you
want it - over your bed, bedside table or
dressing table. Or simply cast light on an
ornament or your favourite wall picture. You
can also use some children’s wall lamps to add
colours in the bedroom!
Floor lamp
Reading a good book in a comfortable chair is
one of life’s pleasures. To avoid straining your
eyes while reading, adjust your floor lamp till
perfect. Floor lamps are also decorative, so try
placing one in the corner of your bedroom they add to the ambience, and brighten up a
dark area too!
Experiment with different types of lighting in your bedroom and
discover the wonders they can do for your room. Drop by the IKEA
store today to check out the wide range of lighting options, all at
affordable prices!

The Swedish Easter
In the weeks leading to Easter in Sweden, the late winter is brightened
by cheerful Easter decorations. Homes are
decorated with feathered birch twigs and
Easter ornaments such as small chicks
or decorated eggs, while people enjoy
delicacies such as salmon or roast lamb.
The feathered birch twigs, known as
Påskris in Swedish, fill the market places in
an array of colours. People buy the twigs
and place them in vases in their homes,
waiting for small buds to bloom, to signify the
coming of spring.
What are Påskkärringar?
This tradition is the highlight of Easter for Swedish children. In the 17th
century, it was believed that on Easter, witches would fly on brooms to
Blåkulla, a place where they ate and drank with the devil. Today, the
tradition of Påskkärringar is very similar to Halloween. Children search
for the perfect Påskkärring or witch costume, and paint their faces with
big red lips and black freckles. They find a broom and a basket and then
walk around the neighbourhood knocking on doors, wishing everyone
a happy Easter. If they are lucky, the neighbours will give them some
candy or money!
Why Easter eggs?
In Sweden as in many parts of the world,
eggs are a major part of the Easter
celebration. The origins date back to
when the six weeks of Lent prevented
the faithful from eating eggs were
plentiful. It was also believed
that eating eggs would increase
strength and fertility. So Easter
eggs were painted and given as
presents. Painted Easter eggs also
hidden somewhere outdoors by
“the Easter bunny”. Today, chocolate
eggs or decorated paper eggs filled
with candy are hidden for kids to find!

Unlike in Malaysia, the Mother’s Day in Sweden falls
on the last Sunday in May. On this special day, older
