Give your mattress the care it deserves and it will serve you better in return. For healthier and more comfortable sleep, vacuum the surface of your mattress and wipe
it with a moistened cloth from time to time to remove dust. Leave it to air completely to prevent moisture from damaging it and shortening its usage life.
Caring for your mattress
1. Turn your mattress every three months to ensure even wear and longer usage life. Turn it in all directions and flip it over if it is designed to be used
on both sides.
2. Do not bend the mattress, jump on it or sit on the edge of the bed for a long time. This can cause structural damage to it.
3. Protect your mattress with a mattress pad. It provides extra comfort, protects your mattress from dust and oil, and prolongs its life. It is also easy to remove for
airing and cleaning.
4. For cool comfort, get a mattress protector. It is thinner than a mattress pad, is machine washable, can be tumbled dry, and has an elastic ribbon in each corner
to keep it in place on the bed.
5. Change your bed sheets regularly. This cannot only change the look of your bedroom from time to time, but also avoid your sweat and skin debris from
gathering in the fabric of your mattress.
6. The average usage life of a mattress is ten years. An old mattress can be the cause of eczema, skin allergies, asthma and allergic rhinitis.
7. A good quality mattress should be of the right firmness to give you even support, depending on your height, weight and sleeping position. That‘s why at IKEA,
we have created our SULTAN Mattress Studio in which we have placed mattresses of varying sizes and firmness and budget, so you can lie down, roll around
and find the one that best suits your body.

Choose your perfect mattress
Choose the firmness to suit your body. As a general rule, the lighter you are or if you sleep on your back, the softer your mattress should be. And the heavier you
are or if you sleep on your side, the firmer your mattress should be. IKEA mattresses are available in 3 firmness grades. To find a mattress that suits you, browse
our website and start doing the mattress quiz.

Perfect combination - Quilts and Pillows
Taking time to find the perfect combination of quilt and pillow will
ensure you have sweet dreams every night. Having the perfect bed
doesn’t end with your mattress. A quilt that keeps you at the right
temperature and pillow that lets your back and neck relax properly,
are just as important for getting a good night’s sleep. Choose your
quilt warmness and pillow that suits your sleeping habit, whether
you’re a side sleeper, back sleeper or stomach sleeper, you can be
sure to find one that’s just right for you at the IKEA store.

Your bedroom is your sanctuary, an oasis where you
can get away from it all, and your lighting should
support this. The subtle play of lights of bedside
lamps and a table lamp creates the perfect mood
for relaxing. So put your feet up and unwind.
SET THE MOOD RIGHT WITH MOOD LIGHTING
FLOOR LAMP
Floor lamps provide a good source of mood lighting. A lamp at floor level also provides extra depth of light to a room.
CEILING TRACK
Some directional task lighting for your wardrobe will help you see what’s inside at a glance, as well as provide good mood lighting when closed. A track of spotlights directly above will also stop you casting your own shadow into the wardrobe.
KNUBBIG table lamp
RM39/each Glass. H11cm.
Butterfly/green or Clover/black.
BEDSIDE LIGHTING
A bedside table lamp not only bathes the rest of the room in a gentle mood light, but also combines well with a more direct reading lamp – helping to reduce the harsh contrasts that can otherwise strain your eyes.
TABLE LAMP
A table lamp in a room provides good mood lighting and helps eliminate any stark contrasts between light and dark. With a dimmer fitted to the lamp cord, you can even use it as a gently glowing night-light.
WALL READING LAMP
A good book deserves good task lighting. Place reading lamps close to the centre of a double bed and direct the light outwards
to prevent glare from the pages of your book. This also avoids disturbing your partner when he or she is trying to sleep.

SAFETY TIPS
Exposed plugs
Unplugged means unprotected. So get into the habit of
always protecting children from plugs that aren’t in use by
fitting a safety plug.
Child-proof lamps
A child’s fingers will happily explore even the most
dangerous parts of lamps. That’s why IKEA ensure all
their children’s lamps are tested according to applicable
standards.
Loose cables
If you have small children,
always keep cables and cords
out of harm’s way. Cable clips
can secure them to the wall and
make your home a safer place.
Read the labels
A lamp that overheats is at risk
of catching fire. Always check the
label to see what bulb to use, and
if the lamp has been tested and
approved for safety.

hang on
HOW TO... HANG A PICTURE!
Ever wondered how to make a mark with your art? Try these techniques on the floor first, to find a style that
suits you. Hold each picture against the wall and mask around the edges. Then stand back and visualise!
LINE THEM UP
For a professional touch, hang the top edge of
your pictures at the same height from the ceiling,
or the bottom edge at the same level above the
floor. Try to align the pictures with the top of a
door or window frame.
DIVINE INTERVENTION
If you have an 8ft wall, use a pencil to draw
a line across it at a height of 5ft. Place each
picture (of any size) so that 3/8ths of its height
are above the line. Scientists call it the ‘Divine
Proportion’!
TAKE CENTRE STAGE
An easy way to hang pictures of different sizes
is to imagine a horizontal line on the wall, about
140cm above the floor, and centre each picture
along this line.
COOL CLUSTERS
Imagine a rectangle or a square on the wall
and arrange all the pictures within that space,
filling each of the four corners. Larger pictures
should be hung above or side by side to smaller
artwork. While dark pictures should be placed
above lighter ones.
LIGHTING TIP Add sparkle to art with narrow-beam spotlights or picture lighting. Extend
lighting on an arm as far away as possible to bathe the entire picture in light. Halogen bulbs
reproduce colours most faithfully, but should be fitted with a protective screen to prevent
pictures from being bleached.
HOW TO CREATE A FEELING OF SPACE
Mirrors. Make use of glossy surfaces and mirrors to introduce light, space and a visually
stunning display.
Big art. An oversized painting or sculpture can give the illusion of a bigger room. It’s all to
do with the space created around the piece, not the space it takes up.
Curtains and blinds. The bigger, the better. A gorgeous fabric, especially in white makes
a room seem larger, as well as calming.
White. Get to know the hundred shades of white. A darker shade on the ceiling gives a
room added depth.

Clutter is not about too much stuff – it’s stuff in the
wrong place. Get organized by first sorting out what
you have.
Group your possessions into categories such as
owner, type, activity and frequency of use.
Reduce the stuff you have. This is the hardest step,
but stay strong and think of the calm dream bedroom
you are about to create. Dispose, sell or give away
items that are broken, worn out, unwanted, unused or
you have too much of.
“Bedroom is where we expect

Here we should wind down,

most bedrooms also serve as a

About Crying
Bonding as a father
Baby-proofing your bedroom
Crying facts:
• Cries are your baby’s first words.
• Newborn babies cry about 2 hours
per day.
• Crying increases at 2-3 weeks of age.
• It peaks at 6-8 weeks and is lowest around
4 months of age.
• Babies cry more often late afternoons and
early evenings, when they need to release
tension after a long day.
•
•
What to do:
• First, check that your baby’s basic needs
are met: clean diaper, not hungry, not too
hot or cold.
• If all basics are taken care off, your baby
may just feel lonely or the need to blow
off steam.
What may help:
If you put your baby in an infant carrier on the
floor with her head gently propped up with a
small blanket or a diaper on each side, she
gets a better view of you and her surroundings.
As you move in and out of her field of vision
and talk to her, she comes to understand that
sometimes mommy‘s right in front of me and
sometimes she‘s not, but either way I‘m safe.
Don’t compete with mom: mothers have natural
built-in advantages in the bonding process. A
father will not bond as quickly and you’ll have to
make quality time to bond with your baby.
• See eye to eye: eye contact helps you build a
bond. Cradle your baby in your arms at about
chest level to put your baby at the perfect
location for eye contact.
• Keep in touch: touch is a very meaningful way to
communicate with your baby. Babies love being
skin-to-skin. Put your baby on your chest, caress
arms, legs, hands and feet. Repeated loving
touches will help your baby connect with you
better and faster.
• Become part of the routine: often, mom tends
to be the primary caregiver for your baby. But,
many of the parent’s tasks can be taken care of
by an interested dad. Bathe your baby, take him
for a walk, feed her from time to time. You’ll give
that tired mom a break and create new bonding
time with your baby.
• Connect with music: babies love music and they
find a soothing spirit when dad sings and dances
with them. Lullabies can be a real bonding
experience also, as you sing your baby to sleep.
• Be patient through the process: the process of
bonding between baby and father is different
and takes longer than with the mother. Don’t
get discouraged as the process develops. The
feelings of bonding are worth the wait and will
pay big dividends later.
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Never put pillows, extra bedding or stuffed
animals in a crib; babies can suffocate
easily and it can happen quickly.
Place a rug under the changing table and
crib to prevent it from sliding.
Keep fans out of your baby’s reach.
Install cabinet locks on all ground level
cabinets and drawers.
If you’re running a bath for your baby,
always turn off the hot water first to avoid
accidental burning if the baby turns on
the water.
The best advice: crawl through your own
house once, just to see everything from
your baby’s level. You will see how many
chemicals are in reach, opportunities there
are to squeeze fingers between doors
and drawers and how many things could
fall on your head.
Keep small jewellery, perfumes, makeup, belts, scarves and ties out of your
baby’s reach.
Never allow your baby to sleep with a
bib on.
When buying a baby crib make sure that
the top rails is at least 66cm above the
mattress in the lowest position.

Now it’s time to decide – what to store where. Rule
of thumb is, store your things close to where they are
used. Keep things you see on a daily basis close at
hand and seldom used things out of sight.
If space is limited, find and create storage space
in new locations. A shelf on top of the door, boxes
under the bed, hooks behind the door are some
good examples.
Find new space by creating order in your existing
storage units. Keep stuff in their place by using inserts,
see through boxes, dividers and other organizers.
Storage with closed doors is useful when you want to
hide what is inside or keep dust out. Closed storage
also gives a calm and tidy impression.
If you lack space, choose sliding doors, fabric panels
or roller blinds instead of doors.
Space above the wardrobe is easily overlooked, but
if you have high ceilings, there is often room here
for additional storage for things you do not use
often. Boxes and baskets with lids usually fit into
this space.
Label or choose see-through boxes for quick searches
of things.
Storage boxes with lids protect the contents from
dust. They are stackable which helps make the most
of your available space.
A storage unit on wheels provides flexibility because
you can move storage from one place to another and
is especially handy in small bedrooms.
By limiting the amount and by grouping your
decorations, the whole room will feel less cluttered.
Choose to display fewer but bigger items, which are
easy to keep dust free. They also give a calmer feel
to the room.
For decorations, display fewer colour schemes and
coordinate the materials as much as possible.

GINGER - GLAZED FILLET OF SALMON WITH WARM POTATO SALAD
“ÄPPELKAKA” OR SWEDISH APPLE PIE
INGREDIENTS 2 pkts of salmon fillets (4 x 125g) “laxfilé”. 400g potatoes, boiled and
sliced. 1 medium-large chinese cabbage, shredded. Salt, black pepper & dill.
INGREDIENTS 200g butter. 300g sugar. 5 dl wheat flour. 3 tsp baking soda.
2 coffee spoons vanilla sugar. 6-8 peeled and grated apples.
FOR THE GLAZE ½ dl sugar. 1 dl apple cider vinegar. 4 dl chicken stock or suchlike.
50g fresh ginger, peeled and shredded fine. 1 clove of garlic, pressed. 1 tbsp spanish
pepper. Corn flour & salt.
PROCEDURE Mix the flour and baking soda together and then rub in the butter
with your fingertips until it resembles fine bread crumbs. Then mix in the sugar and
vanilla sugar. Gather together to create pastry, using a little water to bind the dough
if necessary. Knead lightly and roll out the pastry and line the inside of an ovenproof
dish, saving enough pastry mixture to cover. Fill the dish with the apples and
cover with the remaining pastry. Bake at 250°C for about 25 minutes. Serve with
vanilla sauce.
6-8 portions
Serves 4
PROCEDURE Melt the sugar to a pale caramel in a saucepan. Add the vinegar and
stock. Boil briskly, skim and add the ginger, the garlic and the spanish pepper. Boil
for about 15 or 20 minutes. Add salt to taste and thicken to the right consistency with
corn flour. Salt the pieces of salmon and put them into an ovenproof dish. Brown
in the oven at 200°C for about 8-12 minutes. Brown the potato, leek and chinese
cabbage lightly in a little butter over a flow flame. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Make a bed of the warm potato salad on the plate, with the salmon on top, and
pour the ginger glaze over it. Garnish with a spring of dill. A green vegetable makes
a good companion piece.
DID YOU KNOW? Gravadlax is a typical Swedish fare? People
who’ve never had it before think it’s raw fish, but it isn’t. It’s salmon
fish marinated in a mixture of salt, sugar, dill, white pepper and
allspice. Traditionally, Gravadlax is served with mustard sauce, but the
variations are unlimited.
Gravadlax RM18.90 200g.

How to make a great cup of coffee/tea with KAFFE coffee/tea maker
STEP 1 Remove the plunger and warm the glass coffee pot by rinsing it with hot water.
STEP 2 Add ground coffee (preferably coarsely-ground) or tea.
STEP 3 Top up with water to a level just below the spout. For the very best flavour,
use water which is just a degree or so below boiling. Stir.
STEP 4 Put the plunger in place, but do not press the filter down. Leave it under the
lid for a minute or two, to give time for the coffee/tea and water to mix.
STEP 5 Hold the handle and slowly press the plunger down.

CRISPBREAD WITH SWEDISH CAVIAR & EGG
Serves 2
Easter day has no fixed date, but falls between 22 March and 25
April. The date on which it falls is determined both by the moon,
and the church calendar. Easter has become one of the big Swedish
culinary festivals, with eggs topping the menu.
Eggs in every imaginable form, frequently accompanied by pickled
herring. In Sweden as in other parts of Europe, boiled eggs with
imaginative painted decorations are a vital part of the Easter table.
The origins date back to when the six weeks of Lent prevented the
faithful from eating eggs were plentiful. It was also believed that
eating eggs would increase strength and fertility. So Easter eggs
were painted and given as presents. Painted Easter eggs also hidden
somewhere outdoors by “the Easter bunny”. Today, chocolate eggs or
decorated paper eggs filled with candy are hidden for kids to find!
