Nurturing Children. Partnering with Families.
Educating for Success.
Dear Friend:
Taking care of other people’s children is an awesome
responsibility, and one that we take seriously at
Lemay Child & Family Center. In 2012, 140
families trusted us to nurture and educate their
children, so that their parents, grandparents and
other family members could work or go to school.
While they are here, children learn important skills
that will help them be successful as they get older.
This includes academic skills such as early literacy
and math; social-emotional skills so they can make
wise choices, problem solving skills to help them get
along with others; and healthy living skills. Plus,
we have a lot of fun! Children get messy, pretend,
work together in groups, build structures (and
knock them down!), plant and harvest vegetables,
paint, write, sing, dance, read, discover, and laugh.
Our approach is working; test results show that
children are headed to kindergarten ready to learn.
And their success continues as they get older. In
fact, several children who have graduated from our
preschool and participate in our school-age
program have been honored recently by their
elementary schools for their academic achievements.
This success is possible because our team of staff
and teachers also partners with parents, with our
Board of Directors and volunteers, and with other
organizations to invest in individualized early
education. We couldn’t do what we do without
generous community support, and I thank you for
your interest in and commitment to our work.
Sincerely,
Elaine Powers
Executive Director

What
Parents
Say
“My child graduated from pre-k
here and went to kindergarten
excelling in reading and writing
because the teachers took time in
the morning to work with my child
one on one. I couldn’t have asked
for more support from them.”
