THE WORLD LEADER IN PORTABLE RECLAMATION by Jim Keller ZIPPER TIPS She Just Couldn’t Believe the Zipper Could Be That Good! by Jim Keller Some sales have better stories buried in them than others. This one, about a sale to Cabot, Arkansas is one of them. Jason demoed this city two years ago. Just the mayor and the streets department attended this demo. They were impressed but they had to sell it to the council. Not surprising, because they hadn’t seen the demo, the council voted it down. Jason knew they wanted the Zipper because the mayor and streets department liked it, so he kept in touch with them. Jason Paas A year later they asked him to make a presentation at the streets committee meeting. Prior to this meeting Jason had given the mayor a list of owners in the area. The mayor had given this to the council to check. A council woman, Becky Lemaster, called everyone on the list and took their statements. During this meeting the mayor stood up and said, “This is Jason from Asphalt Zipper. We really like this machine and think it could save the city a lot of money. However, it’s really not necessary to get it right now if we don’t want to.” And then he left the meeting! With the wind knocked out of his sails and given only 10 minutes, Jason stood and made his presentation. This is when the councilwoman lit into him and called him a liar. She said she had called everyone on the list of owners and this is what they had to say. She took everything the owners had said and twisted it into an embarrasing report full of half truths. She had even called into the company and talked to Trey, thinking he was customer service and twisted what he had to say into something negative. It seems she just couldn’t believe that so many people could say that many good things about the Zipper. So she decided to falsify her results and paint a very unflattering picture of the Zipper for the committee. When Jason heard the things this councilwoman reported, he couldn’t believe it. So he personally visited these owners the next week and asked them what they had told the lady. Without exception they all said they had given her a glowing testimonial. Mark Brown even called her to see if he could straighten things out. She told him that she wouldn’t believe him either because he was just another salesman and all salesmen lie. But the story didn’t end there. Jason asked for a chance to do another demo this time for the council. John Reese set it up for him in July this year. Thank goodness a few things had changed in the mean time. The councilwoman who sabotaged the sale didn’t win re-election. It seems that nobody liked her and were glad to see her go. The mayor did get re-elected, however, and he still wanted the machine. When he talked to the streets department they told him, “We want you to come and do another demo for us and this time it ain’t no bullshit.” OK, thought Jason. That sounds a little more serious! purchase. Although she had lost the election that lying councilwoman actually came back and still tried to derail the purchase of the Asphalt Zipper! Lucky for us she was not successful. It was voted in favor by 7 of 8 council members. The AZ-300 will be delivered in September. High fives to Jason for hanging in there to make the sale despite being undermined by someone who just couldn’t believe the truth! “ It’s Our Number One Used Piece of Equipment,” Says Idaho City by JimKeller “We got so tired of patching and repatching the An excerpt from the city newspaper tells the rest of the story: same alligatored roads,” said Dean Littler, Street Superintendent of Twin Falls, Idaho. “A pothole would appear, we would patch it and soon there was another one right next to it. We just couldn’t stay ahead of them.” After review by the committee the proposed ordinance would be brought back before the council. Hutton challenged Ordinance 11-2009 that waives the bidding process for the purchase of an Asphalt Zipper. State law requires bids be sought for most purchases in excess of $20,000–– the Asphalt Zipper costs $86,547. Twin Falls, Idaho, like many cities and counties everywhere, has many miles of roads that were built 30-50 years ago with little or no base under them. It wasn’t necessary back then. But many of these same roads that saw 5-6 pickups a day back then have now become major roads with hundreds of cars and trucks assaulting them daily. Hutton said he believed the city would benefit by asking for bids, there had to be more than a single source of such equipment. Over time these roads have become very rutted, alligatored, patched and potholed. For safety’s sake the only recourse is a total rebuild. An Asphalt Zipper pulverizes deteriorated asphalt, returning it to use. Williams said the machine drastically cuts road repair time. Questioned by Hutton, Williams said he had no facts to use to estimate how long it would take the machine to pay for itself. Despite Hutton’s opposition, and an impassioned plea by former council member Becky Lemaster for the council to seek bids, the aldermen approved the But this means thousands of dollars and weeks of time to do it the “old” way. Many of these cities and counties, looking for a more economical way to solve this problem have discovered the Asphalt Zipper®, a bucket-mounted, high-powered milling attachment. (continued on page 3) (continued from page 2) Twin Falls purchased their Zipper about a year ago. They bought it originally to smooth out the rutting and shoving humps caused by heavy sugar beet trucks Their method of repair was to take a grader out, shave off the humps and repave. But now, with the Zipper they are able to pulverize the road all the way into the base and stir the asphalt and base together making it stronger. Now when they repave the humps don’t come back. “We learned that by grinding up the road surface and mixing it into the base, we got Crew patching after pulverizing ruts a much stronger base,” said Littler. “It compacts better and when we pave it we know it is permanent.” Littler just recently took delivery of Asphalt Zipper’s new product, the Side Shift/Tilt attachment. They saw a need to be able to mill close to curbs and around manhole covers and such. Now they can quick-connect to the Zipper and take advantage of its new ability to shift to the side and tilt right or left for profiling. What does the city of Twin Falls think about their Zipper? “In the twenty five New attachment can tilt 9 degrees years I have worked right or left and shift left 30 “ for the city of Twin Falls, the Asphalt Zipper is the number one used piece of equipment,” said Littler. “We are very happy we bought it.” FACTORY SPOTLIGHT A short time ago, The Factory Management Team started the extra miler award at the factory. We are happy to spotlight these associates and learn more about them. Extra Mile Award July 2009 by JimKeller Scott Saunders The dreaded “shaker table” project was dragging on. We needed to get this project done! Scott performed in a key role, checking on the project two or more times a night, and allowing us to complete the Scott Saunders project in a minimum Factory IT Specialist amount of time. In addition, Scott often works weekends to complete assignments and make sure our systems are efficient, safe and secure. Scott is a consistent “Extra Miler”! Thanks Scott! Scott comes to us from Arlington, Virginia which is in the northern part of the state. He came out to Utah to go to school but he was offered a job with Zipper before he could leave. He felt it was a good match so he stayed. Scott was able to make it all the way through school without getting married. He likes to play sports, play board games and watch movies. In his spare time he enjoys tinkering with computers, systems and software. When it comes to food, he says he’ll eat almost anything, especially fruits and vegetables. But he hates highly processed foods. What is it about Scott that you would never guess? No, it has nothing to do with food or sports. Give up? Scott’s big dream is to be a pilot. OUTSIDE SALES SPOTLIGHT Tim Oustrich, at eleven years, has been an outside sales rep for Zipper longer than any other. There are others who have been with Zipper longer, but not as an outside rep the whole time. Tim is the rep for our North East territory. That includes New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Washington D.C.. For a couple of years he worked in the New England states a little further north. But he prefers the Pennsylvania area because that’s where he grew up. Tim and his sweetheart Michelyn have been married now for 16 years. And after 16 years, he is still crazy about her. He feels very blessed to have her in his life. They have 5 kids ranging in age from a boy who just got home from a mission to Brazil to a daughter just starting Kindergarten. Before coming to Zipper Tim owned an asphalt and seal coating business here in Utah for 5 years. He recognized the benefits and opportunity the Zipper afforded so he jumped on board and never looked back. of his many hobbies. They include playing his guitar, (he is an aspiring rock star, you know) fly fishing, fly tying, golfing, ice hockey, stained glass… well, let’s put it this way, Tim has a lot of interests. But he has the most fun with his rock band made up of himself and his kids. The band’s name is “Rock-Dog-Bone”. They even have bumper stickers advertising the band! What does Tim like to eat? He would have to say it has to be his wife’s spaghetti sauce. Whenever we spotlight someone, we always want to know something nobody would guess about this person. With Tim, there are two things. One is that he has a huge desire to learn to play the cello. The second thing is that he has always wanted to learn how to curl. No, not his hair! He wants to learn the sport of Curling on the ice. (Hmm, now there’s an exciting sport!) INSIDE SALES SPOTLIGHT The Spotlight in the Sales Office falls today on Jamie Weston. Jamie has been with Zipper for 7 years now. She has lived in American Fork for 20 years, since 1989. If Tim could go anywhere for vacation it would be to England because that is where his wife would like to go. However, since he was in the neighborhood, he would go to Scotland and play golf at St. Andrews just once if he could. But, really he is happiest just being home with his family. She and her husband Gary have been married for 23 years. They have two daughters, Sydney and Shannon, both are married. On his day off, besides being a limo driver for his kids and a handyman for his wife, he might enjoy one Although Jamie loves Italy, her favorite place to vacation is next door in Colorado. On her days off she has three hobbies she likes to pursue. One is riding on her Harley. One is hiking and the last one is nagging her husband Gary. Before coming to Zipper she worked in sales at a computer company in Dallas, Texas. Her favorite food is Classic Lays Potato Chips. TIM THE ROCKER Knowing Jamie’s mild mannered demeanor nobody could ever guess that if she had her druthers she would be a sport bike racer. juicy tidbits Alan and Shane Attend BYU Game in Texas Alan Munson and Shane Beck just got back from the BYU/Oklahoma game in Texas in the brand new Dallas Cowboys Stadium No. 20 ranked BYU played No. 3 ranked Oklahoma and upset them 14-13! Shane was there also for the Bingham Miners game also at the Cowboy Super Dome. They were playing a Texas team on Monday. The Miners had already played two games where the Texas team hadn’t yet played this season. To the Miners this was an important game. It was billed as the biggest high school game in the history of Utah. To the Trinity team of Euless, Texas, it was just another pre-season game. The Texas team won 41-21. The Bingham team on one hand was disappointed they lost but was just happy to have been there to play in the new Stadium. Karen’s Son Returns A couple of weeks ago, Karen’s son returned from a mission to Uraguay. He is her 2nd son to serve a mission. He will be attending UVU. Laura is in a Motherly Way Laura Halliday, as many of you know, is having twins. She found out recently that one is a boy and the other is a girl. She is due in December. Letter to the bank: Dear Sirs: One of my checks was returned marked “insufficient funds”. Does that refer to me or you? HAND ME THE PUTTER, PLEASE? THE ROOM WAS FULL OF PREGNANT WOMEN WITH THEIR PARTNERS. THE CLASS WAS IN FULL SWING. THE INSTRUCTOR WAS TEACHING THE WOMEN HOW TO BREATHE PROPERLY AND WAS TELLING THE MEN HOW TO GIVE THE NECESSARY ASSURANCE TO THEIR PARTNERS AT THIS STAGE OF THE PREGNANCY. SHE SAID “ LADIES, REMEMBER THAT EXERCISE IS GOOD FOR YOU. WALKING IS ESPECIALLY BENEFICIAL. IT STRENGTHENS THE PELVIC MUSCLES AND WILL MAKE DELIVERY THAT MUCH EASIER!” SHE LOOKED AT THE MEN IN THE ROOM, “AND GENTLEMEN, REMEMBER -- YOU’RE IN THIS TOGETHER --- IT WOULDN’T HURT YOU TO GO WALKING WITH HER.” THE ROOM SUDDENLY GOT VERY QUIET AS THE MEN ABSORBED THIS INFORMATION. THEN A MAN AT THE BACK OF THE ROOM SLOWLY RAISED HIS HAND. “YES?” ANSWERED THE TEACHER. “I WAS JUST WONDERING. IS IT ALL RIGHT IF SHE CARRIES A GOLF BAG WHILE WE WALK?” Happy Birthday! Angie Duke (06) Trinity Durrant (16) Jason Johnson (16) Laura Halliday (20) Dorothy Hildebrand (25) Dave Stiller made a presentation and demo to Davison County, South Dakota recently. The newspaper was there and wrote this article for their paper the next day. (Pictures added) Asphalt Zipper Will Help County Resurface Roads Melanie Brandert - 04/07/2010 –– By the end of April, Davison County residents could see a new tool in the Highway Department’s arsenal. County commissioners authorized the purchase Tuesday at the courthouse of an Asphalt Zipper Dave Stiller machine that will grind existing asphalt and put down a new surface. “Hopefully, the frost is all out and we can start using and repairing everything,” Weinberg said. The purchase of the new machine, which can be attached to a bucket loader, comes at a time when county roads are in need of repair because of the spring thaw. Weinberg said his department will focus on fixing damaged areas, including Red Arrow Road and some areas along the Sanborn-Davison county line. That covers three to five miles. “Then we’ll see how much more damage we have,” he said. “Then it might be spot grinding - just repairing. With a limited budget, we’ll see what happens.” Commissioners viewed a presentation given by Dave Stiller, a Midwest representative for Asphalt Zipper from Baldwin, Wis. The company, formed in the early 1990s, originally sold the product to pipe and paving contractors, but quickly found a market for local and state governments, Stiller said. Highway Superintendent Rusty Weinberg said afterward that the machine, the cost for which will come out of his department’s budget, should save two-thirds of the usual labor and expenses to fix roads. In the past, county workers have had to remove asphalt, haul it away and bring in new material. He estimated the savings on the asphalt costs alone will be five to six figures. AZ-600B A six-foot-wide machine can cut asphalt up to 12 inches deep. The savings comes with fewer people needed and less equipment hours, Stiller said. “The zipper helps you guys get more done.” Commissioner Gerald Weiss expressed some concern about the budget, but Vice Chairman John Claggett said the county is getting to the point with its roads where it must make take action. County Auditor Susan Kiepke suggested paying for the machine up front to avoid paying interest, and commissioners concurred. The commission voted 5-0 to approve the purchase. AZ-600 with grindbox and water system “I’d like to see some good roads for these rural people to drive on,” Weiss said. EXTRA MILE AWARD are now focused on getting our machines to various locations all over North America, something he is very good at. His gregarious dialect is evidence that he is not a Utah native. He hails from Massachusetts, where he grew up. He even lived on a boat for 3 years while there. Because of the large number of Italians in his neighborhood, it’s no wonder his favorite food is Italian. And all this time we all thought his favorite food was hot dogs and frozen burritos! Mike Harding, Welder March 2010 Extra Mile Award. Attitude is everything! by Jim Keller AZI needed blocks welded on a cutter head skin to meet a tight shipping date. Mike Harding took on the task with a smile and a “get it done” attitude. Thriller sent the skin down at the end of the day. When it arrived at 4:30, Mike worked on it into the night until the job was completed! This allowed the cutter head to be installed the next morning and to be shipped that day. Another deadline met- another satisfied customer. Thanks Mike! INSIDE SALES SPOTLIGHT Chris Waller We all know Chris Waller as the energetic machine scheduler with an infectious laugh. Some of us know him as an avid dirt bike rider during the summer and a ravenous snowChris Waller, Shipping boarder during the winter. OUTSIDE SALES SPOTLIGHT by Jim Keller Just about everybody Roger Comstock, Sales at Zipper knows this guy. The spotlight today falls on Roger Comstock. His business card says he is VP of sales. However, one doesn’t see him in the office because he is out doing what he does best. . . selling. For many years he was the Texas and Oklahoma rep. He and Clarice Christensen set many sales records in that territory. Currently he is both the Northwest rep and the Southeast rep on alternating weeks. Roger is good at sales because that is what he has done for years. He was with Future Foods, a food storage sales company, with Derek Haynie, Dave Fokken and Jim Keller for a couple of years. Then he was CEO of a rustic furniture company before coming to Zipper. He has been with Zipper for 12 years now. Actual photo of Roger riding his Harley in southern Utah Why does Roger work so hard? Well, let me see . . . 7 kids, 10 steers, 2 horses, 2 dogs, 2 chinchillas, a wife and a mortgage. Sounds like he has a lot of reasons. Where does the VP of sales like to vacation when he gets time off? “Lake Powell,” he said without hesitating. He and his family like waterskiing, jet skiing, motorboating, houseboating, fishing, you name it. When he finished his schooling in 2006 he said Callao, Utah. For those of you who haven’t heard joined the company full time. of Callao, here is a brief history: Matt and his wife moved here in 1999 to attend BYU. They now have three kids with another on the way. What kind of hobbies does Matt have? Matt likes wood working, writing software, training for the triathlon and shooting. On his day off he usually trains for the triathlon or works on his house. Although vacations are few and far between, his favorite places to relax are the beach or camping in the mountains. He also loves to swim, kayak and snorkel. Oh crap! Callao is west of Fish Springs and north of Trout Creek, on the old Overland and Pony Express route south of the Gold Hill Mining area. In 1860, the Pony Express established a station known as Willow Springs at a time when gold was discovered in nearby Gold Hill. In 1870, E. W. Tripp, his wife, and small son established a ranch there. In 1895 the name was changed to Callao because there were several places named Willow Springs that were previously established in the territory. An old prospector who had been to Peru imagined a resemblance to Callao, Peru and suggested the name. For a while the old Lincoln Highway passed through Callao. Today about twenty seven residents live in Callao and it is the last town in Utah to use a one-room schoolhouse. These additions will yield a base that is even more solid, suitable for paving or chip sealing. AZ-600B on Grind Box 4 Year Old Gravel Road Still Hard and Smooth Gravel roads don’t have to be a dirty, dusty liability that needs constant attention anymore. The Asphalt Zipper full-depth process that works so well on asphalt is also an excellent solution for gravel roads as well. Give it a try! We know you’ll like the results. Advantages and Tips for Using the Grind Box by Jim Keller Many customers asked Asphalt Zipper to develop a way to make sure alligatored asphalt and thin chip seal could be pulverized without creating chunks. This was a difficult request because applications around the country differ by region and one solution doesn’t always work in every application. But our engineers have developed an attachment designed to contain asphalt chunks that might normally be ejected when trying to pulverize thin or broken asphalt. By containing the chunks, they impact against multiple breaker bars inside the grind box and dome, producing a finer result. Chip seal had been very hard to grind up into small pieces because it was light and easily ejected from the cutting dome. The grind box with its one-way front flap and heavy, adjustable rear baffle contains the big chunks and provides a greater chance for them to be ground up into very small pieces. This attachment may not be suitable for every application, so each job should be evaluated to determine if using the grind box is an advantage or not. Advantages of using the Grind Box: 1. Alligatored and thin asphalt can be pulverized into finer material 2. The grind box will keep chunks from flying forward or out to the sides of the cut. 3. The baffle of the grind box can be adjusted to produce finer or coarser material. 4. The skids of the grind box can be placed on the surface being milled so the grind box and Zipper are parallel with the surface and depth of cut can be set more precisely. 5. The grind box can be attached and detached easily from the Asphalt Zipper. THE WORLD LEADER IN PORTABLE RECLAMATION www.asphaltzipper.com The front hinged opening swings in only one direction. This allows new crushed gravel or asphalt chunks to be introduced into the grind box however if chipseal plates or alligatored asphalt chunks are thrown forward the opening will close, keeping the unmilled pieces inside. Less down pressure is required. Because of the additional weight of the Grind Box and the extended surface of the skids, less ground pressure is required to reduce vibration of the Asphalt Zipper. Typically down pressure as shown on the pressure gauge, can be kept well under 1000 psi or in the lowest yellow range on the gauge. The less down pressure used, the less resulting wear on the skids. Operator Checking Bit Condition Check bit condition more frequently. Because the Asphalt Zipper is now being used to not only cut through the asphalt but to regrind and pulverize the asphalt, accelerated wear of the bits, blocks and skin of the cutterhead may be seen, depending on the material being processed. Also, since the dome of the Asphalt Zipper will now be filled with material, the water spray bar may become clogged more easily with asphalt millings and the water will not be able to reach the bits. More frequent inspection of the bits is required when using the grind box. Operating the Asphalt Zipper with the Grind Box in place, is very similar to operating without the grind box. Depth control is adjusted in the same manner with the box in place as without. The depth gauge will have to be interpreted to account for the 7 ½ inch difference cause by the grind box. For example, if the rod end indicates 10 inches on the gauge, the actual cutting depth is 2 ½ inches (10 – 7 ½ = 2 ½ inches) Keep Your Crews Safe When Grinding Asphalt When the Asphalt Zipper repairs streets and roads, there is the possibility of a hazard being created that may not be readily apparent. The hazard is in the dust cloud that is sometimes associated with the pulverizing job. The dust can contain crystalline silica, and it can be deadly. Most crystalline silica comes from quartz, and sand is almost 100 quartz. Fine particles of crystalline silica can be created when asphalt containing rock and sand is pulverized. When a worker inhales dust containing silica, those particles can scar the lungs and cause a disabling, irreversible, and incurable lung disease call silicosis. The good news is that silicosis is 100% preventable. The key is to keep the dust out of the air and simply using water during cutting will reduce the dust cloud and the amount of silica to which workers and bystanders are exposed. Running water through the spray bar on the Asphalt Zipper, with as little as 20 psi of water pressure will usually reduce the hazard to acceptable levels. If your workers are still concerned with the amount of dust they are breathing, half-mask respirators with the proper filters provide good protection. There are many construction tasks that can produce silica, saw cutting without water in particular puts workers close to the source for long periods. Drilling, coring, scarifying and crushing can all create silica. So watch out for other activities that create silica on the job and look for ways to reduce the dust or to avoid it. Some states have enacted laws that prohibit dry cutting. Check and make sure you’re in compliance. For more information on silicosis and the danger from airborne silica check with your state public health service or look for information on the web from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. How Big Can An Asphalt Zipper® Be and Still Be An Attachment? by Jim Keller The correct answer is 8 feet. Asphalt Zipper® is proud to announce its newest model! The AZ-800B. Asphalt Zipper® now offers an 8 foot Zipper, and, yes, it’s still an attachment! Just think of the production you could get with an 8-foot wide Zipper! (more) 8-Foot Zipper shown recycling, stabilizing and widening a road shoulder Some of you might be thinking: “8 feet? What size loader would be able to lift it?” The 8-footer tips the scales at about 12,000 pounds. If your loader has a 4 yard bucket that is 8 feet wide, it should handle the AZ-800 with ease. The AZ-800 was developed for those Cities or Counties who want to do large road projects efficiently but don’t want to pay the high prices charged for the large, selfpropelled reclaimers. AZ-800 shown finishing the reclamation of an entire city street In some cases, depending on the size of the job, the amount you would pay a contractor to bring in his big self-propelled 8-foot grinder and do a week’s worth of work, could easily pay for a new Asphalt Zipper® AZ-800B. Call today for pricing and delivery schedule. Or visit our website at www.asphaltzipper.com to learn more. Although twice as big as our proven 4-foot Zipper, it has been engineered and built to the same exacting standards and specifications. So you can be assured of its long-lasting quality. But what about power, you ask? We added a very beefy Cummins diesel engine to the lineup. You can now choose either the 203 hp turbo diesel or the new 260 hp turbo diesel with 675 and 730 lbs. of torque respectively. The Asphalt Zipper® was developed for full-depth asphalt recycling, chip seal and gravel road reclamation. The 800 is no different. It will pulverize asphalt to a total depth of up to 12 inches just like its smaller 6-foot, 4-foot and 3-foot brothers. But instead of pulverizing over 4000 sq. ft. of asphalt per hour, this machine is rated at over 8000 sq. ft. per hour! And it can still be towed to the job site behind a one-ton truck on its own trailer! No low-boy transportation charges! If you’re a contractor with a large pipeline to open or a municipality with a large inventory of roads that need rehabilitating, Asphalt Zipper’®s new 8-foot Zipper could be the machine you have been looking for. There was a lot of interest in an asphalt grinder that will fit on virtually any skid steer machine. The AZ-200C has the power to pulverize asphalt up to 8 inches thick in one pass. Don’t take our word for it. Let us come and show you on your skid steer! 24” AZ-200C Skid Steer Model For some of our cooler weather customers, the asphalt repair season is drawing to a close and it’ll soon be snow plowing season again. This may mean that your Asphalt Zipper® will be stored for several months. If you’re getting ready to put your Asphalt Zipper® away for the winter, here are some things to consider: This model features optional side shift/tilt if you need it. It can tilt up to 9 degrees left or right for custom profiling. In addition it can shift a total of 30 inches from left to right, ideal for precise milling next to curbs and utilities. 1. Check the hours on the engine. Now consult your service manual. If periodic maintenance is indicated, it’s a good idea to take care of it before you store the Zipper for winter. That way your Zipper will be ready to go and will operate perfectly for you any time you need it. Our service is second to none in the industry because we care. 2. Clean the cutter head and bits with Zipper Stripper to dissolve stubborn asphalt deposits. (Call Customer Service to order.) Test each bit to make sure each one can rotate easily. Also, clean all asphalt from inside and outside the drum. If you take time to service your Zipper now, it will be ready to go next spring when potholes make their appearance. You may even have an emergency pipe break this winter that your Zipper can help you with. Did you know the Zipper is perfect for cutting through frozen asphalt, too? Now is the perfect time to replace any damaged bits and blocks. After thoroughly cleaning the cutter head, spray it evenly and sparingly with a light machine oil to prevent rust. 3. Give the support bearing plenty of grease. Grease the other grease points as recommended in your service manual. 4. Check the radiator coolant. Make sure it is full and has the proper 50/50 mix of antifreeze. 5. Secure all the tools and manuals so they are protected from water, ice and snow. 6. If the machine is to be kept outdoors or exposed to the elements, cover the machine securely with the Asphalt Zipper®® cover or a good weatherproof and windproof tarp. 7. If you have an Asphalt Zipper® 150 gallon or 300 gallon Water System, drain the tank and drain the pump as best you can. Then pump antifreeze into the pump to protect it against freeze damage. 8. Order new oil, fuel and air filters from Customer Service so they will be ready for use in the spring. Be sure to stock up on bits and other spare parts so the Zipper will be ready to go when it’s needed by calling toll free: 1-888-947-7370. Got questions about any service or repair issues? Call Customer Service any time for parts or expert advice. The important thing to remember is to take good care of your machine and it will certainly take care of you for years to come. Two mechanical engineers were standing at the base of a flagpole, looking up. A woman walks by and asks what they were doing. We’re supposed to find the height of the flagpole, said one but we don’t have a ladder. The woman took a wrench from her purse, loosened a few bolts, and laid the pole down. Then she took a tape measure from her purse, took a measurement, announced, ‘Eighteen feet, six inches, and walked away. The second man shook his head and laughed. ‘Ain’t that just like a woman! We ask for the height and she gives us the length!’ Portable Water Systems For Your Loader or Backhoe Select from 150 or 300 Gallon Tanks Includes heavy duty steel frame that attaches to pintel hitch on the loader, 150 or 300 gallon tank, run dry pump, electrical hookup and heavy duty hose.
