May 2012 - Mason Area Chamber of Commerce
MASON in Motion
OUR 29th ANNUAL SPRING FLING FESTIVAL
FEATURES SATURDAY COURTHOUSE SHOW
The 29th annual “Spring Fling”
will take place in Mason the
weekend of May 3 through May
6 this year, with the Mason Area
Chamber
of
Commerce’s
signature Courthouse Show
being held on Saturday, May 5
from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Special events will be taking
place all around the Mason area
during the Thursday through
Sunday festival.
You can go to the website
www.masonchamber.org to click
on “Mason Area Community
Events Calendar” and scroll down for the latest information and contact numbers.
Some events are weather dependent and some activities have an admission charge.
Mason’s Spring Fling Festival starts off with two National Day of Prayer events on
Thursday, May 3. There will be a prayer breakfast on Thursday morning from 7:00 to
8:00 a.m. at the Mason First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Ash Street, sponsored
by the Mason Kiwanis Club and Mason Kiwanis Golden K. Tickets are $6 from
Kiwaniians and at Bestsellers in advance or at the door. The other National Day of
Prayer event is an outside community-wide prayer at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Mason on
the west lawn of the Ingham County Courthouse.
The 24th annual Mason State Bank 5K Run/Walk will again be part of Spring Fling
this year on Friday, May 4. The race starts at 7:00 p.m. on Maple Street, just north of
the downtown’s Ingham County Courthouse. This is a popular mid-Michigan race
that attracts people from many surrounding localities. The net proceeds benefit the
Mason Public Schools Foundation. The Mason Rotary Club will have a “Brat or
Hots” dinner fundraiser for $8.00 at 360 S. Jefferson Street from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on
Friday as well.
The signature event of Mason’s festival begins the morning of Saturday, May 5,
with the 29th annual Spring Fling Courthouse Show downtown. The show, presented
this year by sponsor LAFCU, is held outdoors -- rain or shine. Ingrid Nova of the City
of Mason, chair of the Mason Area Chamber of Commerce’s Spring Fling & Down
Home Days committee, says that “our estimates are that between 4,000 and 6,000
people attend this show each year.” She also notes that “the show features a mix of arts
and crafts, food vendors, community groups, and other booths.” The Courthouse Show
runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday only.
A “Kid’s Korral” children’s activity area staffed by Mason Assembly of God and
presented by Trinesha Goebel’s State Farm Insurance Agency will also feature a
bounce house and kiddie train from Mason RailTime Adventures. This area will be
near the west Courthouse steps. Admission is charged for the train and bounce house.
Stop by the area parks booth near the Kid’s Korral to celebrate the Mason Hayhoe
Riverwalk, presented by CAPEX Land Company, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On
Maple Street, in front of the Hilliard Building on the north side of the Courthouse, the
Ruhala Performing Arts Center will perform a free show at 11:00 a.m. The
entertainment is sponsored by Dart Container Corporation, Two Men and a Truck,
and the Mason Rotary Club.
Many more things happen on Saturday at other locations in Mason. Prior to the
Courthouse Show, the Mason Firefighters Association will host a pancake breakfast
at the fire station, 221 W. Ash Street, beginning at 7:00 a.m. Kean’s Store Company

CHAMBER VOLUNTEER
RECOGNITION WINNER
Sue Burgess of B-Dry Systems of So. Central Michigan was
the winner in our latest monthly drawing for the Chamber
Volunteer Recognition Program. Sue’s volunteer service at one of
the Hometown U.S.A Committee meetings was drawn from the
fishbowl in the Chamber office. Sue wins a $25 MACC Gift
Certificate good at any Mason area business. The gift certificate
this month was sponsored by Bullen’s Weight Loss. Your
business or organization can sponsor the next one -- just call us to
reserve your sponsorship.
For every hour of volunteering on a Chamber committee,
program, or event, volunteers fill out a small, simple card with
their name, activity, and membership affiliation and put it in the
fishbowl to become eligible. The more one-hour cards in the
bowl, the better your chances to win. While each card can only
win once, all cards are kept in the bowl all through the end of the
year. On the 20th of each month, a card is drawn from the
fishbowl to win a $25 MACC Gift Certificate, which is sponsored
by a Chamber member business or organization.
