industry and for our company. As the makers of the only true
custom paint system designed from the ground up, we never
compromise on performance and still provide great value from
our products. 50 years after pioneering the custom painting
industry, we have learned three critical truths:
• ”A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. By
incorporating normal refinish products into the House
of Kolor® system, you will weaken the entire chain.”

NEW PRODUCTS
Kolor Shift Flakes (F74, F75 & F76)
House of Kolor® found a way to apply Kameleon® technology to a
flake’s surface, creating a completely new flake effect. The flakes give
an even crisper color shift than you’ll see in a liquid, and the geometry
of the flakes cause the colors to move through three or four phases.
They’re also very light and spray easier than your typical flake, so
when used with SG150 Intercoat Pearl and Flake Karrier, you’ll be
pleased with how they apply and thrilled with the final finish

KOS-MATTE KLEAR (UMC35) - Matte Finish
UMC35 is the only matte (flat) clear compatible with House of
Kolor® products. What's special about this product is that it
offers great hardness, production speed and user friendliness,
in a very flexible urethane system. Adding flattening agent to
a gloss clear causes some brittleness to the system; UMC35
Kos-Matte Klear has great flexibility for long-term durability
and adhesion.

High Acrylic, National Rule
UCC01 is a National Rule topcoat clear that fits a "middle ground" between the UC35 and
IT's
UFC35. It has a high acrylic content for good hardness and exceptional fuel resistance just like
the UC35, but provides a slower cure for good speed and better user friendliness. Compared
to UFC35, UCC01 offers a faster cure for better production speed, with a little less flow-out.
This product is more than suitable for any national rule application, big or small, including
motorcycles - giving all painters another great option to choose from!
INTERCOAT BARRIER CLEAR (USG100) - CATALYZED
USE ONLY WHEN TOP COATING WITH URETHANE ENAMEL
Think of it as an intercoat clear on steroids, USG100 Intercoat Barrier Clear is designed specifically for use as
a highly productive and protective clear for artwork tape-outs on Shimrin® Basecoats - it prevents permanent
tape markings and protects metallic surfaces when artwork is planned, better than any intercoat on the market.
USG100 Barrier Clear also speeds up the painting process with its accelerated curing speed - guaranteed to

Before you Paint…
Planning is the key to a show-quality paint job. You’ve got to think about each component, how you’re
going to lay down each coat, how the colors will work together, and always check the technical guidelines!
When you stick with the House of Kolor® kustom paint system, we do most of the work for you, so the
application goes smoothly and the quality lasts for the long term. Here’s all the basics you need to know:
•Use our heavy-duty, kustom grade epoxy primers! You’re entering the world of high-build kustom
painting, and even the best refinish primer can’t stand up to the challenge. House of Kolor®
primers are the foundation of a high-build kustom paint job. If you’ve already primed the surface
with something else, sand it off and re-prime it with House of Kolor®. When all is said and done,
you’ll be glad you did. By the way, our primers are direct to metal, plastics and fiberglass - for all
custom painting applications.
•For maximum adhesion between primer and basecoat, use the House of Kolor® colored sealers
(Ko-Seal® II)! These rugged products not only add years to your paint job, but they give you three
color options to reduce the amount of basecoat required for coverage. Use the white, black, or
metallic silver sealer, or tint the metallic silver or white with kandy koncentrate to approximate any
basecoat.
•Use House of Kolor® topcoat clears – properly! House of Kolor® uses special solvents in our
products – solvents that bite deep into the surrounding coats. Only House of Kolor® premium
urethane clearcoats allow those solvents to bite into them, whereas competitors’ clears do not
achieve the adhesion with our solvents and will flake off (delaminate) quickly. Our UC35 and new
UCC01 products provide a harder finish to provide stability and protection over the thicker color
coats. Our UFC35 and UFC19 product provide the maximum flow-out and user friendliness. For
a flat (or matte) finish, try our new UMC35 Kos-Matte Klear!
• Interested in a Kandy Paint Job? Read our Section on the Kosmic Kandy System before visiting
your jobber or painter!
And always…
•Don’t be a hero - follow the House of Kolor® Application Recommendations! We want you to have
the best finish possible, so if House of Kolor® recommends three coats of pearl with 75% overspray,
then you should stick to that recommendation! Our technical manual is available for download
at www.houseofkolor.com, or you can pick one up at your local stocking jobber. It’s a great tool
that’s easy to follow, for worry-free painting!

AEROSOL CLEANER (KCA100)
KCA100 Aerosol Surface Cleaner dissolves surface contaminants rapidly. With its convenient aerosol

KC20 Post Sanding Cleaner removes sanding residue as well as dirt and light contaminants, such as hand
oil. KC20 is designed for use after KC10 and final surface prep.
WHY USE KUSTOM PRIMERS?
The primer is the foundation of any custom paint job.
Because of the unique chemistry of our epoxies, our
primers offer:
• Direct to metal, plastics, and fiberglass.
• Extreme flexibility that allows the finish to expand and
contract when the metal is heated or cooled, and will not
crack even when seriously dented.
• Tenacious adhesion that resists chipping from rock
bruising or door dings.
• Fill up to 24 grit scratches and offers outstanding
sandability.

KUSTOM PRIM ERS
KWIKURE 2-PART EPOXY PRIMER/SURFACER (KP2CF - PARTS A & B)
KP2CF Epoxy Primer Surfacer is designed to work over properly prepared bare aluminum, fiberglass,
galvanized steel, OE finishes and some woods and plastics. It may be applied to repair areas for
fast filling of touch ups as well. KP2CF’s good corrosion resistance, flexibility, tenacious adhesion to
substrates, fast build, and ease of sanding, wet or dry, makes it a logical choice for the foundation of
a long lasting paint job. This is a two part kit, you will need to order one part A and one part B for a
complete kit.
DIRECT TO METAL PRIMER (KD2000 & KDA2000)
KD2000 Direct to Metal Primer has been formulated with a hybrid of epoxy and acrylic polymers,
which provide excellent adhesion, good corrosion resistance, flexibility, productive dry times, and ease
of sanding. These primers emit very low amounts of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Hazardous
Air Polluting Solvents (HAPS), and contain no isocyanates (CA compliant primer). KD2000 may be
applied to properly cleaned and sanded aluminum, steel, galvanized steel, OE finishes, sand blasted
steel, fiberglass and SMC. This is a two part kit, you will need to order KD2000 and KDA2000.

SEALERS ARE OPTIONAL, RIGHT?
WRONG!
In custom painting, sealers ARE NOT an option and will save you time and money! They perform four critical functions:
• Improve the adhesion between the substrate and the base coat.
• Greatly improve the color holdout of your finish.
• Reduce the amount of base needed to achieve full coverage (see below).
• Prevent solvent absorption into the primer.

SEALERS
KO-SEAL® II PRIMER SEALER (KS SERIES)
Ko-Seal® II is a two-component acrylic urethane primer sealer. Available in black, white and silver
metallic colors. When tinted with our Kandy Koncentrates, they make a perfect ground coat color
for many effects. This product meets VOC requirements nation wide. Sealers are a must when doing
custom finishing.
BLEED CHECK SEALER (SBS)
Bleed Check is a two-component acrylic urethane sealer designed to stop the bleed through of products.
Bleed Check will stop bleeding colors from interfering with artwork. SBS uses graphite as an
active ingredient. As a result, SBS appears black in color. AX01 IS REQUIRED FOR THIS PRODUCT.
The following House of Kolor® products have a tendency to bleed: KBC05, KBC10, KBC13,
KK05, KK10, KK13, UK05, UK10 and UK13. We recommend using Bleed Check over the above
products to protect artwork.
BReaking the House of Kolor® MythS
• "House of Kolor® Is Difficult To Use" - House of Kolor® was designed with the custom painter in mind. Most painters who find the
products difficult to use have not taken the time to read the technical information provided about our products. Our Technical Manual
provides easy to follow explanation of how our products work and how they should be applied. Many painters who find the system
difficult to use are making it more complicated than it has to be, by mixing systems that are not designed to work together or applying
House of Kolor® in manners other than how the Tech Manual suggests. All paint jobs require a little bit of planning, which is made
easier with the product catalog and our Technical Manual, both of which we give away for free. Even novice custom painters who
follow our directions often comment on how much easier the system is to use than the competition.
• "House of Kolor® Is Hard To Get" - Virtually every paint distributor worldwide can get House of Kolor® Products within a day or two.
We also have Premier Jobbers who are distributors required to have a minimum inventory level in each store at all times. You can
find a directory of Premier Jobbers at our web site under Contact Us / Distributors. There are many jobbers who sell House of Kolor®
in on-line stores and ship them to your door. House of Kolor® is the number one custom paint, we are usually the easiest of all the
custom paint products to find.
• "House of Kolor® Doesn't Hold Up Well" - When customers are unhappy with an outcome, the vast majority of the incidents are due
to using House of Kolor® basecoats, kandies, and effects mixed with other companies' primers, sealers, and clears. The remainder
is due to improper application methods. Using collision repair products under or over House of Kolor® will cause problems because
they are not truly custom grade. For the investment you are making for this level of paint job, going outside the House of Kolor®
kustom paint system just doesn't make good sense. Make sure that you or your painters are using the whole system, not just the
colors!

ALL CUSTOM PAINTS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL!
Our Shimrin® Basecoat products are co-polymered urethane systems designed to behave like a lacquer while offering the
performance of a urethane. The best of both worlds!
• Made with only the highest-graded metallics and pearls for exceptional brilliance.
• Use organic pigments instead of the oxides normally used in collision repair systems; our pigments produce much cleaner
more vibrant colors.
• Often achieve two to three -coat coverage when using the correct ground coat color.
• Extremely fast drying, reducing time between coats or taping for graphic.
• Special chemistry: self-orienting metallics and pearls don’t streak or blotch, and keep their orientation when cleared.
SHIM RIN ® BASECOAT
KANDY BASECOATS (KBC SERIES)
Kandy Basecoats are a combination of Kandies and Pearls into a Shimrin® Universal Basecoat. They feature low film build, require
fewer coats, are easy to apply, and touch ups are easier than ever. Available in the same great colors as our regular Kandies.
GLAMOUR METALLIC (BC SERIES) & FINE METALLIC (FBC SERIES)
Our Glamour Metallic or Fine Matallic bases may be cleared for a final finish, or used as a basecoat underneath Kandies. Due to
their unique chemistry they may be top- coated with either acrylic lacquer or urethane enamel topcoat.
DESIGNER PEARLS & BLACK PEARLS (PBC SERIES)
Shimrin® Designer Pearls feature ultra clean organic pigments for extreme brightness and clarity. They are universal basecoats that
may be cleared for a final finish, or used as a basecoat for Kandies.
GRAPHIC KOLORS (SG SERIES) & SOLID BASES (BC25 & BC26)
Shimrin® Graphic Kolors (SG), BC25 and BC26 feature ultra clean organic pigments for incredible brightness and clarity. They are
universal basecoat solid (non-metallic) colors that may be cleared for a final finish, or used as a ground coat under most pearls and
other Shimrin® Bases.
METAJULSTM METALLIC BASECOATS (MBC SERIES)
Shimrin® MetajulsTM Metallic Basecoats are the largest of our metallic basecoats, offering exceptional sparkle and brightness.
Available in three unique colors and now three different grain sizes. They are an excellent choice as a basecoat for Kandy paint
jobs, providing exceptional sparkle in sunlight, or can be clear-coated for a final finish.
KAMELEON® KOLORS (KF SERIES)
Kameleon® Kolors are revolutionary basecoats that change color depending on the angle from which they are viewed. Rounded,
curved surfaces and sharp angles will highlight the uniqueness of Kameleon® Kolors. Kameleon® Kolors are as easy to apply as our
Shimrin® Designer Pearl basecoats, and must be clear-coated.
NEON (NE SERIES)
Neons are universal basecoats that may simply be cleared for a final finish.
IMPORTANT NOTE: USE WITH DISCRETION! Neons have limited light-fastness in the sun. Neons are not recommended for overall refinishing
or where long life is a requirement.
ARTISTIC EFFECT S
MARBLIZERTM (MB SERIES)
MarblizerTM Artistic Bases offer you an exciting paint finish. A wide range of effects can be achieved using this unique coating,
from a deep marble appearance to a snakeskin appearance. Many other effects are open to the innovative painter. Use two colors
for increased depth or apply Kandies for awesome effects. IMPORTANT NOTE: must be coated with sg100 before topcoated with an
urethane Klear.
KOSMIC KROME® (MC SERIES)
Kosmic Krome® represents the application of revolutionary chemistry where platelets of metal can be created at smaller, more
uniform sizes than ever before. Kosmic Krome® custom metals are one of the latest effects for custom painting. Not intended to be
a total finish; rather as an additional tool for Graphics, striping, or airbrush projects that need something unique. These finishes
offer kustom painters effects previously unavailable and open a wide array of possibilities for new colors when combined with other
effect colors currently available.
KANDY KONCENTRATES (KK SERIES)
Kandy Koncentrates are used to enhance any of our Kosmic Kolor® Urethane Enamel. Use factory packaged Kandys for overall
refinishing and for maximum longevity.

KANDY (UK SERIES) - THE TRUE URETHANE KANDY
Kosmic Kolor® urethane enamel Kandies offer the deepest, cleanest and richest colors In the Industry. They may be
applied over any of our Shimrin® Universal Basecoats. House of Kolor Urethane Kandys are still the hands-down
ultimate in custom finishes.
House of Kolor Kosmic Kandy System
• When Should You Use the “True” UK Urethane Kandy?
As a primary vehicle finish, for the absolute best in clarity, depth, light fastness, and material flexibility and
durability. And, when you want a finish 6 coats in depth.
• When Should You Use the Kandy Koncentrates?
As artwork kandy or touch-up kandy when mixed with SG100 (3-coat build) or topcoat clear (3-4 coat
build), or when tinting other UK, Shimrin, or Ko-Seal products. Also good for use on interior or underside
body applications
• When Should You Use the Kandy Basecoats?
When you prefer the color, or when a lower-build, easier-to-spray alternative is what you’re looking for. It’s
just a matter of preference!
Why is this the case?
• House of Kolor Urethane Kandys Are “True” Kandy Paints
The trend these days is shifting towards using Kandy Koncentrates with House of
Kolor topcoat clears to create a primary kandy mix. In fact, that’s the only way
competitors try to compete with a candy alternative. For the primary paint job on
a vehicle, House of Kolor discourages this technique – here’s why! A Kandy is a
transparent color coat shown over a metallic basecoat. The quality of a kandy finish
depends on a number of factors, including:
- depth of the finish
- clarity of the color
- cleanliness (or absence of blotching) in the sprayed finish
- light fastness of the color (resistance to fading from sunlight)
- flexibility and durability of the high-build finish
- quality and reflectivity of the metallic basecoat underneath
• House of Kolor Urethane Kandys (UK Series) Are More Than
Just Dye and Clearcoat!!
Only a dedicated system and a well-tailored product can put all of these attributes
together in one package. The House of Kolor Urethane Kandy (UK) Series stands
alone at the top by offering the cleanest and finest colors; a formulation that allows 6
coats of film depth; special UV sunscreen directly in the UK product; and, the highest
quality urethane chemisty to provide the flexibility and adhesion to last for decades.
• What are Kandy Koncentrates (KK)?
KK’s are concentrated organic kandy pigments, but we recommend them for different
purposes than the UK Kandys: first, KK’s are great for tinting. Second, they make
excellent artwork-grade kandys (but not quite as suitable for use as a primary candy
finish for a vehicle). We intend the KK series for use in tinting UK Kandys, Ko-Seal,
or any Shimrins colors. Or, you can mix Kandy Koncentrate with House of Kolor
topcoat clear to create a transparent 3-stage color coat that’s great for artwork,
touch-ups, and inside body coats. For primary paint jobs on a vehicle, where
weathering and exposure to sunlight is highest, we strongly urge the use of our
packaged UK Kandys instead of mixing KK with clear.
• What are Kandy Basecoats (KBC)?
KBC’s are Kandy colors in a chemistry that behaves more like the 3-stage PBC pearls.
Some people prefer the ease of use of a KBC pearl-like Kandy Basecoat and will
trade off some of the depth of a UK Kandy for the ease of use of a KBC. KBC’s are
also great for 2-tones and artwork, resulting in a minimal leading edge when used
beside another KBC, PBC, or other 3-stage colors.
• What can you put underneath a UK or KK/Clear Kandy to
Make It Stand Out?
House of Kolor offers standard flake metallics (BC Series), fine-flake metallics of the
same colors (FBC series), Metajuls 3-Stage Metallics in three transparent colors, in
Fine (40 micron), Standard (90 micron), and Coarse (130 micron) flake sizes. You
can also lay down dry flake underneath a kandy finish. Try two-toning or fading the
basecoats underneath the kandy. Or you can ghost some flames and artwork.

UC35 may be used to topcoat any urethane enamel finish, including all Shimrin® Basecoats. UC35 features excellent gloss and
D.O.I. (Distinctness of Image). It has good chemical and water resistance and excellent weathering and ultraviolet resistance.
UC35 dries fast and hard and may be color-sanded and buffed the next day. UC35 is medium solids, and has the same
application properties of conventional clear coats.
KOSMIC URETHANE FLO-KLEAR (UFC35) - Low Acrylic
UFC35 may be used to topcoat any of our Kosmic Kolor® urethane or polyurethane enamel finishes, or any of our Shimrin®
Basecoats. UFC35 features excellent flowout for better D.O.I. (Distinctness of Image), ultra-high gloss, good chemical and water
resistance, good abrasion and stone bruise resistance, is extremely flexible and polishes and buffs easily.
KOSMIC ACRYLIC URETHANE KUSTOM KLEAR (UCC01) - High Acrylic, National Rule
UCC01 is a National Rule topcoat clear that fits a "middle ground" between the UC35 and UFC35. It has a high acrylic content
for good hardness and exceptional fuel resistance just like the UC35, but provides a slower cure for good speed and better user
friendliness. Compared to UFC35, UCC01 offers a faster cure for better production speed, with a little less flow-out. This product
is more than suitable for any national rule application, big or small, including motorcycles - giving all painters another great option
to choose from!
KOS-MATTE KLEAR (UMC35) - Matte Finish
UMC35 is the only matte (flat) clear compatible with House of Kolor® products. What's special about this product is that it offers
great hardness, production speed and user friendliness, in a very flexible urethane system. Adding flattening agent to a gloss clear
causes some brittleness to the system; UMC35 Kos-Matte Klear has great flexiibility for long-term durability and adhesion.
URETHANE KOMPLY KLEAR® II (UFC19) - 1.9 VOC Low Acrylic
UFC19 Komply Klear® II is a 1.9 VOC polyurethane clear coat. UFC19 buffs easily the next day, delivers the low VOC needed for
air quality regulations, and yet handles like conventional clear coats. Komply Klear® II may be used to topcoat any of our Kosmic
Kolor urethane or polyurethane enamel finishes, or any of our Shimrin® Basecoats. UFC19 features excellent gloss, long flow out,
very good D.O.I. (Distinctness of Image), and good chemical and water resistance. UFC19 has excellent weathering and ultraviolet
resistance, and easily color sands and polishes from 24 up to 72 hours.
SUNSCREEN CLEAR (SC01)
SC01 Sunscreen Clear contains the maximum allowable amounts of UV absorber to protect your paint job from the most damaging
rays of the sun. A must for acrylic lacquer finishes. We have seen lacquer Kandy finishes 12 to 14 years old and still looking great
when SC01 is used as a topcoat clear. SC01 is excellent for colored pearls, too.
CAUTION: Do not use SC01 over whites or very light colors, as a slight yellowing is possible due to the ingredients used for UV
protection.

House of Kolor® offers topcoat clears for your specific application:
• UC35 has a high acrylic content that offers the fastest curing, maximum hardness, and excellent fuel resistance. This is an excellent
choice for motorcycles, jet skis or other small objects.
• UFC35 has a lower acrylic content and offers maximum flow-out and user-friendliness from a slower cure. This is a good choice for
full-size cars, trucks, and other larger vehicles or objects.

Flow-out is high, but not as high as UFC35, so it works for large
applications where a faster production speed than

price. The thinner carries the paint to the surface, then evaporates from the paint film, thus how the thinner
evaporates will determine the flow, tack free time, consistency, shrinkage, leveling, dry time, tape time and
final gloss. A subtle but valuable part of the system!
RETARDER (RU315)
Designed for the Kosmic Kolor® Urethane system to retard dry time in situations where this is deemed
necessary, such as force drying. May be added to faster reducers to slow their dry time in emergency
situations.
KRATOR ELIMINATOR (KE170)
An additive that corrects fisheye or crater defects. Works with lacquer, urethane, polyurethane, acrylic
urethane, acrylic enamel, and other polymer coatings. A must have product for your paint shop.

Klears, or custom bases. Giving a brilliant glitter effect, Ice Pearl provides an excellent base for Kandy finishes. Blends of Ice Pearl

KAMELEON® OPALS (KOP SERIES)
Kameleon® Opals represent some of the latest advancements in pearlescent technology allowing radical color shift from different
viewing angles. These products are available as easy-to-disperse powders that can be added to clears, pearl basecoats, and
Marblizer® to create dazzling effects and exciting new colors. Kameleon® Opals are sure to add exciting new effects to your

KAMELEON® PEARLS (KPF SERIES)
Kameleon® Pearls are unique color-changing pigments available in 5 dazzling colors and two particle sizes, Standard (90

KOSMIC LONG-GLOTM (KLG SERIES)
This product is designed to provide a glow-in-the-dark effect. Depending on use and sun exposure, light fastness on some colors
will be limited. We recommend using Kosmic Long-GloTM with discretion. Even though the color may change with time and

ADHERETO® (AP01)
AP01 is designed to use when top coating Polypropylene, TPO
(Thermoplastic Polypropylene), Polypropylene/ elastomer blends,
other plastics, aluminum, steel, brass and other metals. Adhereto®
creates a bond between a substrate and a coating, or between a dried
coating and a fresh (wet) one. This product is also useful when sanding
situations are difficult. Adhereto® is easy to use and dries in minutes.
Ready to spray right out of the can (no reduction required). Product is
clear in color.
ACCELERATOR (AX)
Accelerator (AX01) was designed for catalyzed acrylic urethanes and
specific polyurethanes to speed up cure time. Use Accelerator to speed
dry time in cool shops on parts that must be handled (or sanded for art
layouts) or re-coated the same day. Accelerator can be added to any
of the following Kosmic Kolor® products: SBS10, UC35, UFC19 and
UFC35 Klears; UB and UFB Solid Colors; and UK Kandys.
HI-HEAT BLACK (HH)
Hi-Heat Black is a fast-covering, great-looking, semi-gloss jet black finish
that will endure 1400° F without flaking or discoloration. It is a great
coating for engine parts or exhaust systems on cars, trucks, motorcycles,
small engines, etc. where high temperatures are a concern. Hi-Heat
Black comes ready-to-spray with no reduction required. Coated parts
are dry enough to handle in one hour without baking.
FLATTENING AGENT (FA)
Flattening Agent reduces the gloss of our polyurethane enamel topcoats
and Klears. Flattening Agent will not affect adhesion or hardness. It is
great for under carriages, frames and engine parts where you need a
tough, durable finish and low gloss.

PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS
Think creatively when taking photographs of your custom project. The photos you send in are the photos that will be used in the calendar. Try shooting
from different angles to show off some of the special features of your project. Crop the photo so that the whole object is in the picture, e.g., don’t cut off the
back wheel of your bike or the front fender of your vehicle. Avoid photos with people or object are in front of your entry. If shooting outside, try to take the
photo on a paved surface, like a parking lot or driveway. The more open the area is that you shoot the photo the better. Wetting down the pavement can
help prevent the pavement from reflecting up into the paint. Clear, sunny days are the best days to shoot outside. Keep the sun behind you when shooting
to get a sharper, clearer, more vibrant photo. Be aware of your surroundings, because whatever is around the vehicle will reflect in the shiny surfaces of the
paint and chrome. A good thing to avoid is taking a picture of the vehicle parked in the grass. The grass covers the wheels and sometimes the vehicle if it’s
been lowered. It also reflects in the chrome and paint, giving everything an unattractive green hue. Professional studio shots do help your project to stand
out, however, Valspar®/House of Kolor® is not responsible for any additional royalties to the photographer. Valspar®/House of Kolor® is willing to give the
photographer credit for use of the photograph in the calendar and for any additional use of the photo, if desired.
* Although digital cameras have become increasingly popular, the average quality and resolution of most digital cameras do not meet the requirements
of large format, professional printing. If your project isn’t shot with at least an 8 mega pixel digital camera using the highest image resolution setting
