As one of the most original and socially-engaged architects of her generation, Danish architect Dorte Mandrup represents the best of the Nordic architectural tradition. To the smallest

Though ostensibly the works of Jonas Lindvall may fit into the Nordic tradition, his rejection
of any particular style or trend sets him apart from his contemporaries. Unlike the wider
Swedish design scene which largely revolves around Stockholm, Lindvall chooses to continue his work from Malmö, his hometown, and spans the disciplines of architecture and
furniture design. Among his most iconic designs to date are his Oak and Papa chairs for
Skandiford – simple, beautiful concepts with a nod to the Scandinavian modern style. In
addition to design and residential projects, Lindvall also takes on commercial architecture

design for the Japanese restaurant Izakaya Koi won the Golden Chair Award in 2005. This

Pálmar Kristmundsson was born in 1955 in Þingeyri, Iceland, to a family of fishermen. This
small village in the Vestfjords of northern Iceland would be the incubator for Kristmundsson’s “Þingeyri Space Theory”, the idea that form and material can only be understood
through the context of place. It would also be the source of his decades-long love affair with
raw metal, concrete, and using industrial materials in a refined context. This book follows
Kristmundsson’s journey from his first encounters with makeshift fishing structures to his
early education in vernacular Japanese architecture and subsequent rise to one of the most
prominent figures in Icelandic architecture today.

How does one breathe new life into an abandoned dry dock? BIG architects have designed
an extraordinary museum to revive Denmark’s proud maritime history. The Danish Maritime
Museum will fit into a unique historical and spatial context between one of Denmark’s most
important buildings – the world-famous Kronborg Castle – and a new, ambitious cultural
centre. In order to preserve the dock as an open, outdoor space, BIG has placed the
museum underground, just outside the wall of a dry dock in a formerly abandoned shipyard.
In this subterranean position, the museum appears as part of the cultural environment,
while at the same time standing as an independent institution. Through this extraordinary
museum, BIG once again confirms its position as one of the world’s leading architectural
offices.

The book Superkilen celebrates the dawn of a new type of urban public space. Designed
by BIG, TOPOTEK1 and SUPERFLEX, Superkilen is a kilometre-long urban park wedged
within one of the most ethnically diverse and socially challenging neighbourhoods in Denmark. The project triggers the imagination, exploring the idea of a plural “we” and advocating for community as a collective experience of otherness. Superkilen is composed of
globally-sourced objects from 60 different countries – the 60 nationalities of the people
inhabiting the area surrounding it – ranging from exercise gear from muscle beach Los Angeles to sewage drains from Israel, palm trees from China and neon signs from Qatar and
Russia. This book invites readers behind the scenes of the making of Superkilen, through
the reflections of its creators, and discusses the project’s relationship with changes in the

Thinking Through Painting is an on-going investigation of contemporary painting since
2009 involving numerous discussions and studio visits. The book was initiated after a
discussion between Swedish artist Jan Rydén and curator Jonatan Habib Engqvist about
how the contemporary institutional and theoretical art scene often seems to be uneasy, and
at times even lost in its relationship to painting. Together with the artists Kristina Bength
and Sigrid Sandström, they embarked on a project that would investigate painting as a

Since the King and Queen of Norway took reign in 1991, there has been a period continuously of restoration of the royal
properties in several parts of the country. The Royal Castle of Oslo needed a thorough rehabilitation after decades with no
major refurbishment since the Second World War. Ending like 20 years of restoration, all ten castles and houses, the royal
yacht and railway carriage has been documented through new photography and texts. H.M. Queen Sonja has written texts
