The group brought lemon bars, brownies, cookies, muffins and cupcakes to the Valley Humane Society Garden Tour in Pleasanton on Sunday, May 20. They manned a table serving the home baked goodies representing Abbie 4‐H. The project members answered questions about Abbie 4‐H. The money raised on this day will go toward helping homeless animals in need. Eden Villa by Jessie Rhoads On Saturday May 12/5. I went to Eden villa with Anika, Austin, Miriam, Chloe, Megan, Alex and Sara. We had 2 chickens, 3 guinea pigs and 1 rabbit to share. We showed the seniors our animals and told them about the animals. It was a lot fun and I hope more people come next year! Yet I used the fundamentals of 4‐H. I used my head to measure the wingspan. I used my heart when I built my relationship with my papa, who helped me build the plane. I used my hands to glue and paint the plane. I learned health when I discovered how to use tools safely. Here is a picture of my plane and a picture of a British plane I used as a model. If you read this article, email Miriam <[email protected]> how Alex used the 4 H’s to help build his project to win a prize! The cake booth sells Cake, Cookies and drinks; 10% of everything earned that day will go directly to Abbie. We will have a sign up sheet at the Community Club Meeting on the 6th. However, if you know what shift you would like to work you can email me at [email protected] or my mom at [email protected]. Additional Cake Booth NOTE: Mark, Mr. Cake booth needs One Adult Bakers' Assistant every day to help him bake cakes and cookies from 6:00 am ‐ noon. If you are interested please email Mark directly at [email protected]. The Aerospace Project at the Livermore Airport Dreams of Flight… by Garion Nicdao This year in 4‐H, the Aerospace and Rocketry Project took two field trips to the Livermore Airport. On May 6, 2012, the group went on their first field trip to the Livermore Airport. We learned all about the tools that a pilot would use and saw some small airplanes. A little later in the afternoon, we got to go up into the tower and see the radars and listen to the air traffic controller’s commands to the pilot. On May 27, we got to see the Wings of Freedom vintage airplane tour. We got to go in the airplanes and look at recovered airplane parts. We also got to talk to some World War II veterans and learn about their adventures as a pilot in the war. We all had so much fun on these two field trips. If you read this article, email what the Aerospace project did on their fieldtrips to Miriam <[email protected]> to win a prize at the next CCM! Page 5 of 8 Project Expo a Success! by Jonathan Komari Last month's meeting was a Blast! There were a lot of interesting and cool project booths. I was a leader at the Rifle Project booth and got to teach everyone about rifles and shooting. And don't forget about the delicious Ice Cream Social at the end of the meeting! County Updates by Diana Hock Jonathan and Nico with a Rifle poster at Project Expo Fenton’s Outreach – Event will be held every weekend in July; which is their busiest month of the year and it is “National Ice Cream Month”. Fenton’s gives back 20% of all proceeds to the Non‐Profit Organization of the month. Every club is requested to take one day; we set up a table in the parking lot, you can display anything you want, animals, projects, etc. Some clubs have made cookies and given them away, some have done make it and take it’s, you can have animals, display boards, whatever you can come up with for your group. You will need to provide the tent, decorations, chairs, etc….Fenton’s just provides the space and opportunity for us to promote our organization. All proceeds go to the county; last year it paid for all the scholarships of families who couldn’t afford to pay for membership. Fenton’s is in Oakland. Alameda County Fair Parade – The county registered and would like for all clubs to participate. The parade is Saturday, June 23rd and it will be promoting 100 years of the Fair; theme is “Memories made Here”. Each club would bring their banner and walk; you can decorate red wagons with your animals or projects. They are asking that everyone either wears their 4H uniform (whites) or a club t‐shirt. The parade starts at 9:30 am; meeting time will be 8:45 am. We need to email Ariele Silvas at [email protected] if we are interested in joining them. It is a place to make friends and share interests, as well as to build confidence and learn responsibility. Though the various activities offered, 4‐H members have opportunities to learn new things and to have experiences that they may not have had otherwise. Among the list of possibilities are the opportunity to experiment, go to camp, go on trips, learn how to care for an animal, and how to preserve food, and much more.
