News at Noon: George Hiotis was on hiatus this week. Sergeant at Arms: Scott Webb felt the coffers were a little light so he wielded a heavy hand this week. Cassandra was fined $1 for over advertising her own birthday by announcing it more than once. Tom Poorman was fined $1 just because. Larry Snode was fined $1 because he didn’t invite Sgt. Scott to fish with him when they met at Dillon Lake recently. Rob Willmann was fined $1 because “we already have one Don Mason in the club”. Jack Wine was fined $1 for his unorthodox greetings and after hearing his explanation he was fined another $1. And finally, President Paul was fined a total of $5 for a variety of perceived transgressions. Announcements: President Paul asked that everyone review the roster books on each table and make any corrections to their information so Hud can get the books revised for the upcoming Rotary year. President Paul read a letter from Past RI President Ron Burton thanking and congratulating Hud and our club on our 100th Anniversary Celebration. Jim Buchbinder informed the club that the 100th Anniversary video and photos are available on our club website (www.zanesvillerotary.org) June 9, 2015 Edited by Larry Snode Photos by Everett Jackson Main Program: President Paul presented the club with copies of the current club Constitution and By-Laws along with revisions that are being proposed by the Board. Our current By-Laws have not been changed since 1969 and many things have changed since that time. The Board feels it is in the club’s best interests to revise these documents to better reflect the actual practices and procedures followed by the club and by Rotary International. President Paul showed a short video that addressed the changes and challenges taking place in the world and the brightness of the future if we are prepared for it. The main changes are in four areas: Membership Changes here will allow for broader use of “classifications” and greater Board discretion in member terminations. Leadership Changes will provide a leadership succession plan. Leadership Structure Changes will ensure seasoned leadership through longer term limits and additional opportunities for past presidents. Committees Changes here will adjust committees to better match club activities and current needs. President Paul said these changes will strengthen and position our club for service well into the years ahead by adding additional flexibility and adaptability, provide a PROUD identification with Rotary International and ensure the succession of trained leadership to continue and ADVANCE the MISSION of Rotary into the 21st Century. A vote will be held at our regular meeting on June 23rd. Passage requires a quorum (25 members) which is 1/3 of our membership with 2/3 of those voting approving the measures. Proxy voting will be provided via email for those who will not be able to attend that meeting. Any questions or suggestions can be submitted to President Paul or any Board member. Cassandra McDonald asked how we can compare the proposed materials with the Rotary International rules and President said that they are about 99% the same. There are still some minor variances due to how we conduct our elections and the fact we have one of the original forms of charters. Bud Linn questioned the need to make the changes concerning Past Presidents involvement on the Board or as President. President Paul said that currently Past Presidents are not permitted to hold any officer position and the revised provisions would permit that to happen if the club so desired. “Light Up Rotary” Drawing: Janice McCloud conducted the drawing. Past President/Assistant District Governor Rick Sabine pulled the winning ticket for John Renner (previous jackpot winner). No such luck this time. John took home the $12 daily catch but missed the $75 jackpot. Next Week: Amy Huddleston with Senior Care. REMINDER! The Club is selling the remaining 100th Anniversary Commemorative Rotary Candy Jars filled with Ben Heggy’s Candy from Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl for $10.00 each at next Tuesday’s Meeting.
