EQUINE COMMUNICATION

Have you ever wondered about the magic behind “horse whispering”? This unique
opportunity will teach you the art of equine communication with our professional trainers.
As an observer or participant, you are sure to come away with a new appreciation of these
magnificent creatures. One hour.
HUMAN/HORSE SYNERGY RIDES Our professional Spa & Equestrian staff will evaluate your riding with your horse, and
then recommend a customized body work program for you and your equine friend.
Massage, acupuncture and chiropractic modalities may be suggested for both of you which
will result in improved synergy and body communication between you and the horse.
Riding session is one hour.

COUNTRYSIDE TRAIL RIDES 9am, 10:30am, 1pm, 2:30pm, 4pm | ages 13 & up
Discover the natural beauty of our countryside astride quiet
trail horses, while meandering through the woods and fields
at a leisurely walk. One hour.
MINDFULNESS TRAIL RIDES 9am, 10:30am, 1pm, 2:30pm, 4pm | ages 8 & up
Before heading into the serenity of the woods and meadows,
get to know your horse while Salamander’s team teaches
valuable horsemanship and riding skills for all levels. This allows
horse and rider to have a more harmonious ride. One hour.
PRIVATE RIDES
PECT I V E
This innovative personal discovery program gives guests an opportunity to uncover their
authentic communication, leadership and relationship style by connecting with horses.
This activity does not require any horse experience or riding. By successfully achieving
goals working with the horse, participants will learn effective tools to carry into other
aspects of their lives. Two hours.
SALUTATION TO THE EVENING featuring Salamander’s Equestrian Team
Friday & Saturday, May –October | Between 5 & 6pm, weather permitting | Grand Lawn
Join us as members of the Equestrian team and our horses bid the day farewell and
welcome the evening. Photos with the team members and horses are encouraged.

RIDING LESSONS
Instruction is offered on our seasoned lesson horses and
ponies; however, the session may also be enjoyed on your
own horse. All lessons are conducted by our experienced staff
in Balanced Seat, Centered Riding, Basic Dressage, Hunt Seat
and Stock Seat. One hour.
ESSENTIAL HORSEMANSHIP
9am, 10:30am, 1pm, 2:30pm, 4pm | all ages
Grooming, Leading, Equine Safety and the fundamentals of
horse behavior are a great introduction or refresher. This
service does not require any prior horse experience. One hour.

Equi-Power – Perfect for corporate retreats and corporate leadership seminars.
This unique package combines two powerful team activities into one. Salamander’s
EQUI- PECTIVE program and Empower’s Tree Top Zip Tour. This innovative discovery
program gives individuals and teams an opportunity to uncover their authentic
communication, leadership and relationship style by connecting and communicating
with horses and then zipping through the tree tops. This activity does not involve horseback riding.

Tree Top Zip Tour – Soar through the tree tops on an interconnected series of zip lines
and bridges. Perfect for families, friends, groups and team building. Minimum age is 8
years and required weight range is 70-250lbs. $123 (call the Empower office for pricing,
schedule and availability) | 1.5–2 hours
ride. With an Empower guide, zip line our 200’ zip line 3 times. Minimum age is 4 years
old and minimum weight is 40lbs. Times are flexible but reservations are required.

Rappelling – Descend a vertical surface commando style. $105

Survival 101 – Learn the basics of survival and have fun doing it. Empower guides teach
and guide participants through the basics of finding food, collecting water, trapping,
survival first aid, Tyrolean traversing, shelter building and more. $170 | 1–1.5 hours
Personal Leadership Odyssey – This customized adventure is for adults looking for a
special, individualized adventure training session utilizing the entire Empower Adventure
facility. $329 | 4 hours

PYRO-GRAPHIC KEEPSAKE (WOOD-BURNING)
A favorite among Salamander Resort & Spa guests and a unique experience for every artist.
Pyrography, a slow process of burning wood with a specialized heated tool to create a work
of art, is fun and memorable for every person of any level of artistic ability. The smell created
in the process is rustic, comforting and may remind you of great times sitting around the
campfire with friends. 1.5 Hours, $50 per person, ages 8 and up
BRUSH WITH GREATNESS (SOCIAL PAINTING)
A fun way to experiment using painting techniques like some of the master artists of
our time. Try your hand at painting an original Jackson Paddock or a Vincent Van Woha.

FALCONRY FIRST HAND

This once-in-a-lifetime experience presents the fascinating natural history, training,
conservation and concerns about these majestic predators. Following a live demonstration of
the training methods and an overview of the natural behavior of raptors, each participant will
have the opportunity to hold a live raptor on their arm for a wonderful photo opportunity as
Falconry’s 4,000 year old history is revealed. Ages 12 & up (ages 6 –11 allowed with a paid adult)

LIVE ACTION –RAPTOR IN FLIGHT. Take a walk around the beautiful grounds of the resort and
witness a raptor in flight. Experience a raptor in its natural environment as she flies from
perches and trees to a master falconer. You will delve into the relationship between human
and raptor while learning about the natural history and conservation of these birds. Wear
sturdy shoes, dress in layers and get ready for adventure. Reservations must be made by
7pm the evening before. Ages 7 & up (ages 6–11 allowed with a paid adult)
RESORT CACHING

This exciting activity is designed for teams of two and great fun for adults, children and
families. Set out, armed with two person kit, coordinates and GPS rental to uncover
hidden treasures. Stumble across interesting facts and details about the local eco-system
and terrain. What mysteries and treasures will you find?
MIDDLEBURG SCAVENGER HUNT

Great afternoon family activity or activity for a group of teens/tweens to discover
Middleburg. Explore in a group or race each other. One smartphone required per team.
CLAY SHOOTING

Whether a novice or a crack shot, sporting clays provide a fun outing in the Virginia
countryside. Exhilarating off-site sessions are available just minutes from our property.

Walk-ons are “pick-up” games of paintball. The
group is a mixture of all ages and skill levels and is
comprised of all players who show up to play without
a reservation. Even teams are formed by a referee
