NEW CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A System Real Innovation Brand New CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A. System (Europe) Essential factor in mid and long term product planning as a top manufacturer in a category of premium helmet!!! It is to continue changing always in order to realize profit and satisfaction of customers continuously in a high level even if current products are highly assessed. CX-1 visor which SHOEI developed for the first time in the industry as a visor integrated with mechanism without separate cover created various merits such as flush surface and one touch removing/fixing. Its original design has 1 been a main stream of visor design followed by many other manufacturers. Because of its prominence of basic design we had been maintaining the basic structure of visor mechanism for a long time. However, when we considered what SHOEI full-face model of next generation shall be, we fond it necessary to review design including a visor mechanism from scratch for further satisfaction of customers. As a result, brand new CW-1 visor and Q.R.S.A. (Quick Release Self Adjusting) System were born as a real innovation. NEW CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A System 2. Q.R.S.A. (Quick Release Self Adjusting) System 1. Development Concept As mentioned above, CX-1V visor had many merits. What were developed for further convenience of users maintaining CX-1V’s merits are CW-1 visor and Q.R.S.A. Base Plate. Specifically, we studied the points below as high priority issues for convenience of users: • To improve upper vision when Pinlock Fog-Free Lens is equipped; • To secure close contact of a visor and a window beading while a visor is fully closed; • To realize easy adjustment of a base plate for close contact of a visor; and • To maintain smooth opening/closing of 2-D visor for racing same as 3-D visor for general use In addition to above, we found it important to maintain and refine further the following merits of current CX-1V: • Easy and firm removing/fixing of a visor by one action; and • Elimination of visor’s fogging by pre-set opening and a visor lock mechanism by handling of a lever 2 • Variable Axis There are several factors for a position of a rotation axis for opening/closing of a visor. Securing full vision, positional relationship between inner surface of a visor and a shell or parts, relation with a shell shape design and relative angle of contact with a window beading for close contact have to be considered. For some of these factors a rotational axis shall be positioned rearward while it had better be positioned forward. In order to resolve these contradictory requirements comprehensively, we applied in Q.R.S.A. System a variable axis mechanism where an axis is moved front and rear corresponding to opening/closing angles. This mechanism made it possible to extend Pinlock Fog-Free Lens upward and improved close contact with a window beading further. NEW CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A System Structure and Components of Q.R.S.A. Base Plate A Base Plate consists of an inner plate fixed to a shell and an outer plate supporting a visor, and sliding of an outer plate to the front and the rear changes position of an axis. When a visor is fully closed, an outer plate is pressed rearward by 2 springs, assists close contact of a visor and a window beading and performs as an allowance for adjustment of position of Base Plate. Sixteen components of Q.R.S.A. Base Plate were newly developed and for each of these components such factors as strength balance, 3 sliding characteristics and light weight were checked comprehensively to realize perfect movement. NEW CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A System 3. Newly Developed CW-1 Visor A visor developed together with Q.R.S.A. Base Plate is CW-1. Both horizontal and vertical dimensions are enlarged so that it may correspond to extended vision caused by a wider eye port. a long time. Characteristics of Q.R.S.A. + CW-1 Visor • Substantially Extended Upper Vision of Pinlock Fog-Free Lens New shaped Pinlock Fog-Free Lens with extended vision is designed for Q.R.S.A.+CW-1 Visor. Combination of 2 layers structure with air chamber between a visor and a lens and a special coated anti-fog lens restrains fogging and secures clear vision. We received request to improve upper vision of Pinlock Fog-Free Lens in a riding position leaning forward from many customers for former model. In Q.R.S.A.+CW-1 Visor, we succeeded 4 in moving top end of Pinlock Fog-Free Lens and silicone sealing out of vision by methods below; a) Control of Visor’s Movement by Variable Axis; b) Application of Rib at Inner Top of Visor to Make Height of Visor’s Inner Surface Same as Pinlock Fog-Free Lens c) Extension of Visor Upward to Position Top End of Pinlock Fog-Free Lens in Overlapping Portion of Shell and Visor. Extended clear vision enhances comfort and concentration in rain or low temperature which makes a visor easy to fog. NEW CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A System • Improved Close Contact of Visor and Window Beading By application of a variable axis, an angle of contact with a window beading becomes perfect when a visor is fully closed and secures firm close contact all through circumference. And also, when a visor is fully closed, an outer base plate is pressed rearward to a direction of a window beading by 2 springs and assists close contact. An improved close contact of a visor and a window beading enhances wind breaking effect, and therefore, air turbulence around face inside a visor is decreased and quietness is improved by decrease of noise from around a visor. Structure of a window beading is also renewed in new models applying Q.R.S.A+CW-1 Visor. An upper portion is elastic in lip shape while side portion and a bottom are in curled and lip shapes respectively to secure close contact with a visor which is sliding rearward by Q.R.S.A. System. • Easy Adjustment of Visor Position A careful positioning of screw was required in former fixed axis type base plate for adjustment of a visor position. In Q.R.S.A. + CW-1 Visor, a fully closed visor is always pressed to a direction of a window 5 beading by positioning of a variable axis and springs. This self adjustment mechanism allows minor difference and makes the system perform properly. Adjustment of a visor position when a screw is loosened is easy due to this tolerance. NEW CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A System • Corresponding to a Wider Eye Port CW-1 Visor is designed to correspond to a wider eye port compared to a former model. An extended vision contributes to a safe and comfortable riding. • Easy One Action Visor Fixing/Removing Easy fixing/removing favored in SHOEI visor is succeeded to Q.R.S.A.+CW-1 Visor. To remove a visor, just open a visor fully, pull trigger of Q.R.S.A. Base Plate downward and release 6 hook and gear. To fix it, press hook and gear to Q.R.S.A Base Plate until it clicks in a same fully opened position. It is very easy. You can handle watching hook and gear by your eyes. NEW CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A System • Flush Surface and Round Shape contributing to Quietness Q.R.S.A.+CW-1 Visor is in a coverless structure without any component located on a visor to support it. Flush surface without unnecessary joint or step does not cause air turbulence or an excessive air stream on a shell surface and contributes to quietness. And, a rib at top end of a visor minimizes gap with a shell. Thin side ends improves flush surface with a shell. Surface of mechanical portions in both sides is designed in a 3-D round shape to fit to a shell. fully opened position. It is very easy. You can handle watching hook and gear by your eyes. • Pre-set Opening and Visor Lock SHOEI’s own visor lock and pre-set lever to keep a visor in a slightly opened position are improved further in Q.R.S.A. System for easy handling. By moving a lever downward from a standard position while a visor is fully closed, an outer base plate slides forward and creates a slight gap between a visor and a window beading. A proper introduction of outer air eliminates or avoids fogging. A visor is locked and a sudden opening of a visor is avoided when a lever is moved upward.* * A visor may be opened even if it is locked when an excessive force is applied. 7 NEW CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A System 5. Newly Developed CWF-1 Visor for Races A tear off film is essential in races. CWF-1 Visor equipping hooks to fix tear off films is also newly developed. A visor surface is required to be in 2-D to fix tear off films. In a former model, there was a difference in angle of contact with a window beading between 2-D visor for races and 3-D visor for general use. Therefore, opening and closing of 2-D visor was not smooth as those of 3-D visor. In CWF-1 an area inside an eye port to fix tear off films is in 2-D while an area contacting with an window beading is in 3-D same as that of CW-1. Additionally, movement of a variable axis of Q.R.S.A. Base Plate secures smooth opening/ closing and close contact with a window beading while a visor is fully closed. Pinlock pins are equipped to CWF-1 Visor for use of an exclusive Pinlock Fog-Free Lens for CWF-1. An upper vision is, of course, secured for CWF-1 same as CW-1 when Pinlock Fog-Free Lens is fixed. Intervention of tear off hooks and Pinlock pins is resolved by use of a single axis component for both pins and hooks. 8 Both pins and hooks are in eccentric structure for adjustment of tension and may be adjusted separately. As a structure for rotation and fixing in adjustment of eccentric mechanism for tear off films, a radial spring is newly applied. When a tear off hook is pushed, it rotates while it is fixed when a tear off hook and a washer are combined by a righting moment of spring. Use of this mechanism realized easy adjustment of a tear off hook without using a screwdriver. NEW CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A System 6.
