Malaysia sentiasa berusaha gigih bagi memastikan
pelancong dari dalam dan luar negara, mendapat
suatu pengalaman yang sebaik mungkin semasa melawat
ke destinasi-destinasi pelancongan di Malaysia. Benar,
bahasa selaras dengan gagasan We Are The Host. Kita
sebenarnya bertanggungjawab menjadikan Malaysia
sebagai destinasi pelancongan Top of the Mind di
kalangan pelancong seluruh dunia.
Pada tahun 2013, industri pelancongan merupakan
penyumbang ke-enam terbesar kepada ekonomi negara,
meningkat satu kedudukan daripada tahun 2012. Industri
ini menyumbang sebanyak RM51.5 bilion kepada
Pendapatan Negara Kasar bagi tahun 2013. Ini adalah hasil
daripada pencapaian luar jangkaan di mana pendapatan
yang diperolehi melalui sektor pelancongan meningkat
kepada RM65.44 bilion. Walaupun melalui tahun yang
mencabar, kedatangan pelancong juga meningkat pada
tahun 2013, iaitu 25.7 juta orang berbanding 25 juta orang

performed above expectations
in 2013, with tourist receipts of
RM65.44 billion exceeding the target
of RM65 billion. The 8.1% growth from

Meanwhile, tourist arrivals also grew by 2.7% to 25.7

tourist spending per capita was RM2,544.90 per person
compared to RM2,419.10 per person in 2012,” said the

Best Of Asia And Beyond!
Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!
It was a shoes galore in Putra World Trade Centre when the Malaysia
International Shoe Festival (MISF) 2014 took place from 27 March until
30 of March 2014. The annual event, organized by Ministry of Tourism
and Culture in collaboration with the Malaysian Footwear Manufacturers
Association, has been a great deal in attracting both tourist and locals
alike, especially during the 1Malaysia GP Sale which was held in
conjunction of the annual Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix race.
Entering its fifth year, MISF has definitely being the catalyst to further
strengthen and reinforce Malaysia’s positioning as a shopping haven
in Southeast Asia, which has been ranked as the 4th best shopping
destination in the world by CNN.
Being the largest of its kind in Asia, the MISF voyages attract the
best names in the footwear industry and Malaysia now has been
internationally recognized as the hub of this region’s shoe industry,
ranked 19th worldwide in terms of shoes export.
One of the most prominent figure and a Penang-born internationally
acclaimed designer, Prof. Datuk (Dr) Jimmy Choo plays a crucial role in
the ongoing success of MISF in exhibiting his exquisite shoes designs
and enthusiastically sharing his knowledge as well as his invaluable
insights to promote Malaysia’s footwear industry.
“Such a world class shoe festival will help propel Malaysia’s fashion
industry further and place our tourism industry in the forefront of
promoting “Luxury Tourism” and attracting high yield tourists from around
the world. MISF has attracted significant visitors and is fast becoming
the country’s new lifestyle tourism icon,” said YB Dato’ Seri Nazri Tan Sri
Abdul Aziz, Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia while delivering his
speech during the launching ceremony of MISF 2014.
Besides the affordable quality bargain and heavy discounts with more
than 200 booths showcasing and 100 local and international brands,
MISF lined up major exciting activities including the Malaysia Footwear
Design Competition, Ballerina Shoe Stage, Shoe Scape with giant
sculptures made with shoes, Kid’s Shoebox painting Competition,
Footprint of Love charity event and even the Giant Shoe Box that
functions as a ‘gift vending machine’ that certified by the Malaysian
Book of Record as the biggest shoebox in Malaysia measuring 20 feet
in length, 6.5 feet in height and 12 feet in width. Apart from that, there are
also a custom crafted five feet giant stiletto shoe studded with Swarovski
crystals value more than RM80,000 being displayed.
MISF has proven to be a success in promoting Malaysia to the world,
having generated a total of RM7.2 million in sales last year compared
to RM6.8 million sales in 2012 attracting more than 70,000 visitors from
USA, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Indonesia, India, Iran, German,
South Africa, Norway, France, Switzerland, UK and the Middle East.
Undeniably, the shoe industry is still growing on the local front. MISF
impact has seemed to further extends to the educational arena that
enables homegrown designers to hone their talent thus increasing the
volume of local content hence promote our high end local shoe industry
throughout. Let’s look forward for another successful MISF edition!

EVENT
M
ASEAN TOURISM FORUM 2014
ASEAN Advancing Tourism Together
alaysia opened its Year 2014 curtain
on a high note with the ASEAN
Tourism Forum (ATF) 2014, held
from 16 January until 23 January 2014, in
Kuching, Sarawak.
ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) is a cooperative regional
effort to promote the Association of Southeast Asian
Nations (ASEAN) region as one tourist destination where
Asian hospitality and cultural diversity are at its best. This
annual event involves all the tourism industry sectors of
the 10 member nations of ASEAN: Brunei Darussalam,
Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar,
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Each year, the hosting of ATF is rotated among the
member countries. ATF 2014 marks the 33rd anniversary
of this event since its inauguration in Malaysia in 1981.
In line with its theme ASEAN – Advancing Tourism
Together, ATF 2014 has raised the tourism industry
value-chain to a higher level through strong cooperation
among ASEAN member states. The Forum also continued
ASEAN’s objective to explore the sustainable development
of tourism and reviewed various tourism initiatives and
plans, in line with the mantra of Tourism Conserves,
Preserves, and Protects.
The ATF 2014 has further strengthened intra-regional
cooperation and coordination in tourism through various
meetings such as the 17th Meeting of ASEAN Tourism
Ministers, and the 13th Meeting of ASEAN Plus Three
(China, Japan, & Republic of Korea) Tourism Ministers,
besides other meetings of National Tourism Organisations
(NTOs).
The presence of over 1,600 delegates, including 100
foreign and local travel trade media at the ATF 2014
offered Malaysia an excellent opportunity to showcase its
diverse tourism products, particularly those in Sarawak
and Sabah, and raise awareness of the celebration of Visit
Malaysia Year 2014.
The Travel Exchange (TRAVEX) was another important
component of the ATF. The 3-day business event attracted
a total of 450 booths set up by 353 exhibitors comprising
879 sellers to market regional individual tourism products
from ASEAN member countries to 462 international
buyers who attended the event.
During ATF 2014, various awards were also presented,
namely, the 27th ASEANTA Awards for Excellence in
Tourism and the ASEAN Green Hotel Award. The latter
is held biennially during ATF and is presented to hotels
for their efforts to be environmentally-friendly and adopt
energy conservation measures.
A total of 86 hotels from 10 ASEAN countries received the
honour this year, with ten being Malaysian hotels including
the Mandarin Oriental, Riverside Majestic Hotel, and
Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort.
Minister of Tourism and Culture, Malaysia, Dato’ Seri
Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, declared the 33rd ASEAN
Tourism Forum (ATF) a resounding success.
8 | Ministry Of Tourism And Culture, Malaysia
“We have certainly come a long way. From humble
beginnings 33 years ago, we are now on the threshold
of realising our goal of One Vision, One Identity, One
Community for ASEAN by 2015.
“We have made significant progress indeed. I am pleased
to announce that we have completed 75% of the measures
outlined under the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan 20112015. By 2015, we shall achieve 100%. Moving forward,
let us work together to chart the strategic directions to
maximise the potential of ASEAN tourism beyond 2015,”
said Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri at the closing day of the
event.
Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri also handed over the
Chairmanship of ATF 2015 to Myanmar’s Minister of
Hotels and Tourism, U Htay Aung; formally passing the
baton to the Myanmar as the host of the next ASEAN
Tourism Forum in Naypidaw.
The theme of ATF 2015 is ASEAN - Tourism Towards
Peace, Prosperity and Partnership.
Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul
Razak, who officially declared open the ATF 2014 on 20
January 2014, jointly-launched The Magical Gardens of
ASEAN coffee table book with ASEAN Tourism Ministers,
along with the Chief Minister of Sarawak, the Minister of
Tourism and Culture Malaysia, and Sarawak's Minister of
Tourism and Housing Development.
The Magical Gardens of ASEAN is produced by the Ministry
of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, with contributions from
the respective ASEAN Member States to promote ASEAN
Parks and Gardens. The effort goes in line with ASEAN's
objective to promote sustainable economic development
through the conservation of the natural and cultural
heritage in the region.
TRIVIA
The very first ATF was hosted in Genting
Highlands, Malaysia. It was seen as an early
indication of the willingness of ASEAN
countries to work together for the common
good of every member country. Since then,
ASEAN has grown economically by leaps
and bounds, and garnered international
recognition for its diverse culture, and
the quality of ASEAN as an unforgettable
holiday destination. Among the major
initiatives of ATF was the promotion of
Visit ASEAN Year 1992 and Visit ASEAN
Campaign 2002.

promotion gig to another level with the
production of The Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia

Visit Malaysia Year 2014, was launched by
Minister of Tourism and Culture, YB Dato’
Seri Mohamed Nazri Tan Sri Abdul Aziz, on
18 Februari 2014 in Kuala Lumpur.
“The publication of the brochure is timely as Malaysia is
currently celebrating its fourth edition of VMY. Therefore,
domestic and foreign tourists can use the brochure as a
guide to choose their holiday destinations based on their
preferences,” said Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri.
“The brochure can also be used as a medium to promote
our tourism destinations and products, and to encourage
Malaysians and foreign tourists to plan their holidays
ahead,” he added.
The brochure contains 1,030 holiday packages, which
were developed with the cooperation of 297 tour operators
from all over the country. The packages are categorised
according to states and segments to make it easier for
tourists to identify their holiday destinations based on their

Nature, Sports Tourism, Voluntourism, Health Tourism,
Education Tourism, Island & Beaches, Honeymoon, Spa
& Wellness, Cruise, Angling, Bird Watching, Cycling,

RAILWAY TOURISM -
ENRICHING EXPERIENCE
TO DISCOVER MALAYSIA
T
hree new Railway Tourism packages
were launched on 10 January 2014,
which offered tourists a leisurely train
trip to various parts of Peninsular Malaysia
on KTM Berhad’s coaches.
The packages, which will add colours to the Visit Malaysia
Year 2014 campaign, include “Day-Trip by Rail”, “North
and East-bound Homestay by Rail” and “Resplendence
Resort by Rail”. The Ministry has successfully launched
the “Experience Malaysia Homestay Packages by Rail” in
2010.
“As part of the effort to bring about inclusiveness, we
are now actively promoting the Railway Tourism as a
way of enriching the experience for both domestic and
international tourists to discover Malaysia comprehensively
via train,” said Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia,
YB Dato' Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz the launching
ceremony of “Railway Tourism Packages” at the Kuala
Lumpur Sentral Station.
The tourists and some members of the media boarded
the KTM coach for a railway tourism experience to Ipoh,
Perak together with YB Dato' Seri Mohamed Nazri.
“Travelling cost by train not only is cheaper than other
mode of transportation, the traveler also gets to see
the countryside at a slower and more relaxing pace,”
said President of Railway Tourism Association Malaysia
(RTAM), Puan Khadijah Abd Rahman, adding that travelling
by railway offers more comfort as each passenger has a
larger leg room space than other vehicles.
The packages, which were jointly developed by the
Ministry together with RTAM and KTM Bhd, have received
some bookings from both the local and foreign tourists.
Combining many elements, from retro to modern, tourists
can choose packages from 3 Days 2 Nights or 4 Days
2 Nights that cover North and East Bound of Peninsular
Malaysia departing from Kuala Lumpur Sentral station.
A day-trip package for those who want to be away from
the hustle and bustle of the hectic city life or else, a very
special tailor-made Resplendence Resort long-haul
package for a holiday that is worthy of five stars awaits
the tourists.
While those who want to experience authentic Malaysian
village life can opt for staying at the homestays licensed
by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia. These
“kampung” houses are dotted along the network of
railways across Malaysia.

MALAYSIA LISTED AS
WORLD’S THIRD BEST PLACE TO RETIRE
MALAYSIA WINS 3 TRAVEL + LEISURE'S
INDIA BEST AWARDS
Malaysia is the best place to retire in Asia right now, and
there’s no sign of that changing – InternationalLiving.com
NEW DELHI: Malaysia secured three awards at the Travel
+ Leisure India & South Asia Magazine's India's Best
Awards 2013 Monday.
PETALING JAYA : InternationalLiving.com’s annual Global
Retirement Index 2014 has listed Malaysia as the third
best place to retire for North Americans. The annual index which is now in its 23rd year, listed
24 countries and Panama came out tops, while South
American nation Ecuador came in second in the index that
was released two days ago. According to InternationalLiving.com, Malaysia is the best
place to retire in Asia. In last year's global retirement index, Malaysia was also
placed third and in 2012, they were fourth behind countries
like Mexico, Panama and Ecuador. The report highlighted some tourist attractions in Malaysia
such as the beaches, hill stations, mountain retreats, as
the perks for those who want to retire here.
For most retirees, health care is essential and according
to the index, Penang and Kuala Lumpur, provide some of
the best health care facilities in the country. "The hospitals are top-notch and the physicians speak
English, having been either been trained or completed
their postgraduate studies in the US or UK - which makes
the cost of health care all the more incredible. "You can see a specialist without any need for an
appointment for as little as US$11 (RM36.20). Just turn
up. It’s the same with dentists," said InternationalLiving.
com.
Other aspects that were mentioned were the first class
infrastructure, high-speed connectivity and cable TV. "The country’s diverse ethnic mix makes being a stranger
here easy. "Whether you live in bohemian Penang or Kuala Lumpur
- the country’s hip capital, you’ll meet friendly locals who
are happy to stop and chat and welcome you into their
home," it said.
Malaysia was named the best green destination for the
second consecutive year while Langkawi was crowned
runner-up as a honeymoon destination and the KL
International Airport was declared a joint runner-up with
Heathrow Airport in the best airport category. "It is a regional recognition for Malaysia and we will
continue to promote places like Taman Negara as well
as Sabah and Sarawak," Tourism Malaysia director
(Mumbai) P.Manoharam said. Malaysia expects tourist arrivals from India to increase
from 650,989 last year to between 780,000 and 800,000
this year. India is Malaysia's sixth largest source of visitors. Manoharam said Langkawi was popular among Indian
and South Asian travellers not only for honeymoon but
also as a family destination. "Langkawi is runner-up as a honeymoon destination after
Maldives, which is a high achievement,” he told Bernama
after receiving the awards here. The readers' poll was conducted through the magazine
and online in 2013 over a period of five months. Magazine editor-in-chief Payal Kohli said the third edition
of the India's Best Awards boasted the biggest number
of winners as the competition was very close in many
categories, resulting in a number of joint winners and
runners-up.
Travel + Leisure Southeast Asia has about 60,000
readers in 12 countries in Southeast Asia, including Hong
Kong and Macau. - New Straits Times, 1 April 2014.
The Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme is
also beneficial for retirees as it allows non-Malaysians to
stay in Malaysia on a social visit pass for 10 years, and it’s
automatically renewable for an additional 10 years when
it expires. Other countries such as Guatemala, Malta, Brazil, Spain,
Cambodia and Thailand were part of the 24 nations listed
as retirement havens.
According to InternationalLiving.com, all 24 countries in
the index were in close contention for the number one
spot, but Panama nicked it due to its best range of retiree
benefits.
"In the past year, Panama has introduced new visas,
which makes it easier to gain residence there, and the
country has made major advances in infrastructure,” said
the website. - The Star, 7 January 2014

PERAK MAN : SIRIH PULANG KE GAGANG
LENGGONG - Selepas 24 tahun, rangka manusia
Tambah Mohamed Nazri, kembalinya rangka Perak
dijaga.
Sambutan 'kepulangan' Perak Man yang diadakan di
galeri berkenaan memberi makna tersendiri kepada lebih
1,000 tetamu yang terdiri daripada pelancong, pelajar dan
penduduk setempat.
asalnya.
"'Kepulangan' Perak Man merupakan detik yang cukup
bersejarah buat semua khususnya masyarakat Lenggong,
"Mulai hari ini, buat pertama kali rangka asli Perak Man
Perak Man," katanya hari ini.
Katanya, kini masyarakat Lenggong bertanggungjawab
menjaga warisan tersebut dengan memastikan tapak
warisan di sini tidak dirosakkan.
"Saya berharap penduduk menjaga hak warisan mereka,
Beliau turut mengumumkan bahawa Jabatan Warisan
Negara telah menyediakan Pelan Pengurusan Konservasi
Lembah Lenggong untuk dihantar kepada UNESCO.
Katanya, pelan itu adalah mengenai cara-cara
menguruskan tapak warisan dunia dan membangunkannya
untuk pelancongan tanpa merosakkan tapak warisan
tersebut. - Utusan Malaysia, 16 Februari 2014
