Knox- Corinthian January Quarterly Luncheon
The Charles E. Seay, Jr. Hand Center at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children treats more than hand disorders and injuries, Dr. Scott Oishi
told lodge members at the Knox-Corinthian Lodge Quarterly Luncheon held at the hospital on Jan. 28. The Hand Center, in fact, deals with all
sorts of upper limb issues. Dr. Oishi, center co-director and an associate professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center, cited the case of a child
who severely injured his elbow in a four-wheeler accident. The center was able to save the boy’s limb, and he was pitching baseballs nine months
later.
The Hand Center’s reach and scope also has included the training of 145 fellows from 13 countries, according to Dr. Oishi, featured speaker at
the luncheon. That program was formalized in 2013 as the A.C. and Eleanor M. Garison Fellowship in Hand and Upper Limb Treatment,
honoring the Garisons’ generous support of TSRHC. The hospital also has hosted more than 60 visiting hand surgeons. In 2013, the Hand Center
accepted 500 new patients and conducted more than 2,100 clinic visits, Dr. Oishi said. The nine-member team treats everything from congenital

Once again, it is an honor to address you and share my thoughts from the east. The state of our Lodge is
strong and vital. Over the past several months we have raised and delivered to our chosen beneficiaries nearly
$70,000 thanks to the efforts of our Golf Tournament and Raffle committees. These committees have hit the
ground running for next year’s events and need your help. Please remember that first lesson you received as
a Mason in the Northeast corner and consider lending your time and energy to one or both of these efforts.

We have also initiated, passed and raised a considerable number of Masons this year. This year, through the
efforts of our Junior Warden, Bill DuBois, our Degree Master, Jason Naumann, and our dedicated brothers,
the candidates for these degrees have received truly stellar degrees. If you haven’t attended a degree recently,
you are missing out. It may not be your forte to take a role, but I guarantee you’ll get something out of it. And our candidates will feel a
stronger tie to the lodge and the fraternity with your presence. Come join us.

This is the work of a Mason. But there is another aspect of Masonry that I invite your attention. It is Fraternity itself. Are we reaching you
and providing you the experience you want or sought out from Masonry? We see only a small percentage of our members at the various lodge
events, meetings and degrees. These are only a few of the opportunities to participate in Masonry. We have begun an effort to understand the
needs and desires of our members through a mentoring and membership campaign. Our goal is to increase and improve YOUR experience
and those of your brothers. In order to do this, we need to hear from you.

Grand Master’s Statewide Conferences Focus on Masonic Education
Each year the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Texas holds conferences around the state. The emphasis of this year's program is Masonic
Education, with the intent of providing an in-depth understanding of the meaning, practice and teachings of Freemasonry. Masons are encouraged to
strive for excellence and artistry in the delivery of the rituals but recognize that perfection is not required.
Masonic Education occurs through the teaching of Masonic principles and through allegories, history and tradition. Masons are further challenged to
understand these principles and avoid memorization only. The Grand Master encourages festive boards where members socialize and visit to have
fellowship, friendship and fun. Getting to know one another will better enhance our personal relationships. An understanding of each member’s
commitment of talent and leadership as well as their personal sacrifice of time will strengthen the bonds and leads to quality members, not just grow
our numbers.
Masonry requires a time commitment and therefore is not for everyone. Masonry also focuses on charity and this starts with the lodge. All Masons
are invited and encouraged to attend a Grand Master’s Conference to experience first-hand this valuable message.
A Grand Master’s conference was held Feb. 7 at Hella Temple in Garland, Texas. David Hefner and Darrell Hefley were the local conference
coordinators. A new check-in procedure was used to streamline and shorten the registration process and improve data collection. A total of 350
members representing 204 lodges and 75 districts of the Grand Lodge of Texas were in attendance. The average raised date is July 1993 and the average
miles traveled was more than 37.
Our Masonic District 14C had the best showing of all Districts, with 56 attendees. Our Knox brother Right Worshipful Lawrence P. Sweeney is the
district deputy of Masonic District 14C and was in attendance along with Knox brother Jeffrey K. Haven, current Grand Lodge Photographer.
Knox-Corinthian Lodge was well represented with 21 members in attendance. Knox brother Charles E. McKay participated in the conference planning
and the presentation and was very well received. A video on Freemasonry directed by Grand Master Michael L. Wiggins and produced by Knox
brother Ken Mandel ,was presented and also well received. Knox Chaplain Desmond Blair was one of the featured Masons in the video.

2014 Knox-Corinthian Lodge Raffle
The 2014 Knox Corinthian Raffle benefiting Texas Scottish Rite Hospital
and the Dallas Scottish Rite Library and Museum was a huge success. This
year we raised $8,950.00. A number of members of the Lodge did a
fantastic job securing prize donations this year: Brothers Barney
Grossman, Desmond Blair, Mike Stimpson, Alan Miller, Greg Chesley,
Kim Howard, Matt Ferguson and Jeff Haven. Due to the efforts of these
brethren, we were able to offer a very diverse list of prizes ranging from a
Guided Fishing Trip on Lake Fork, to Dallas Cowboys Tickets, to a Golf
Outing at Wildhorse Golf Club with many great prizes in between.
In addition to working hard to obtain a number of donated prizes, Brother
Haven was also the top raffle ticket seller for this year. Brother Haven set a
great example for the members of the Lodge with his tenacity and
determination. He has set a high bar for us all next year.

We also saw a little something out of the ordinary this year with our
drawing. We had three repeat winners: Burrell Poston, Trip Kuehne and
Ed Prendergast. Talk about some lucky fellas!

2015 Knox-Corinthian Valentine Dinner
The Lodge was proud to host our
Valentine’s Dinner at TSRHC. This was
the 8th year for the dinner which is done in
appreciation to Knox-Corinthian Lodge
members for their continued support of the
hospital, which allows TSRHC to continue
to provide exceptional care to it’s patients.
Members and their dates were treated to an
exceptional meal, courtesy of the TSRHC
dietary department.
As a result of a successful Knox-Corinthian Golf Tournament and
Raffle, check presentations were made to both the Scottish Rite
Library & Museum and also TSRHC for $34,500 each. Throughout
the evening, guests were treated to musical entertainment by former
TSRHC patient, current TSRHC Volunteer and pianist Kevin
Bodnar. Thank you to all who attended this wonderful evening.

Hospital Happenings
Prior to their dramatic victory in the Cotton Bowl, the Michigan
State Spartan football team and coaching staff visited the
hospital, visiting with patients and MSU supporters.
The Dallas Marathon, held on Sunday, Dec. 14, once
again benefited TSRHC. More than 25,000 runners
participated in the event, which has donated more than
$3.5 Million to the hospital.
Players and cheerleaders from the Dallas Cowboys visited
TSRHC patients on Tuesday, December 9th. Patients were able
to get autographs and pictures with some of their favorite Dallas
Cowboys personalities.
