REMINDER TO ALL MEMBERS
Lockheed Martin's Workplace Security policy, CPS-565 is strictly enforced. One provision of
the policy is a workplace free of weapons, which includes Firearms, Ammunition, Bows and
Arrows. The club must emphasize this policy to our members. Additionally, a state issued
CCW permit does not supersede nor over ride this LMA policy. Members wanting to store
firearms or archery equipment during the day ONLY, must contact Gene Adamson (303-6672871) or Dave Mulholland (303-977-3674) for access instructions.

Here is information on the candidates to help with your vote.
Position: President:
Wayne MacGregor: I am a “double” retiree from
both LM and ULA. I began my career with Martin
Marietta in 1981 at Vandenberg AFB. The bulk of
my career was spent in the Program
Planning/Performance Measurement organizations
with a short interruption during the 1990’s where I
tried my hand at private consulting. I’ve been an
active member of Skyline for over 10 years and the
Vice President of the club for the past three. I’ve
been married for 37 years and have two grown
children, Molly and Colin. I enjoy all forms of
shooting sports, but particularly shotgunning and participate regularly in the skeet program at
SHFC. I also enjoy hunting, fishing and off-roading. My other major hobbies are motorcycling
and beer making. I’ve been involved in shooting sports for over 50 years starting when I bought
my first .22 rifle in 1958. I have memberships in the NRA, GOA, and NAGR and am an ardent
supporter of the Second Amendment.
Position: Vice President:
Norm Viste: I am 76. I retired from Lockheed 15 years ago after 37
years, the last 14 as Chief Engineer of Atlas Development.
I joined SHFC in 2008. I regularly pull RSO Duty, shoot Skeet &
Practical Pistol, and help with range maintenance. I recently dusted
off my 64 year old Winchester model 69A .22, put a new scope on it,
and have begun shooting Rimfire Silhouettes. I Just bought a DPMS
.223 AR-15, put a scope on it, and will begin shooting Centerfire
Silhouettes next week.
This past summer, I designed the new Skeet high house, got contractor
bids, and scheduled and oversaw the demo and construction of the
new building. It came in on schedule and within budget. Come look at
it!
4
I have been the Committee Chair for the keeping of the Workbond records for the last 7 years,
and picked up the record keeping for the RSO work when that started. I put those up on the
SHFC web site for all to easily access.
For fun, I Ski, play with computers, Tutor high school kids in Math, Hike, act as a Mentor to
ULA college interns in the summer intern rocket program (Large Sport Rockets), volunteer at
my church in several areas, read a lot, reload shotshell, 40 S&W, and .223, visit my kids and
grandkids in California, and try to keep the grass green.
I would like to help the club prosper, run smoothly, be fun and safe to shoot at, be well
maintained, and add capability to the existing ranges.
Mike Browning: Mechanical engineer, shooter,
sportsmen, outdoorsman, welder/fabricator, mechanic,
philosopher, NRA instructor, RSO, husband, father,
grandfather, patriot.
I moved to Durango Colorado from Indiana 40+ years
ago in my '51 Willys Pickup. There I learned welding,
blacksmithing, and metal fabrication working in
various welding shops and self owned businesses until
I became enlightened (I wasn't one of "the beautiful
people" of Durango, and laying under a bull dozer
welding in Silverton in January was ok at 21, but seemed a grim prospect for my golden years)
and got educated as an engineer (CSU, BSME 1983 and MSME 1994). I've since worked for 33
years as a mechanical engineer in various aerospace companies working on rocket engines,
lasers, very large, and, very small space craft. I've raised a family in Deer Creek Canyon, and
now have two granddaughters in Alaska. I retired from Lockheed Martin in 2011 but still hang
my hat at a local consulting firm (Instar Engineering).
Shooting interests
If it goes bang, I'm interested. Growing up in rural Indiana and working for several farmers
around my home, I did a lot of small game hunting and trapping, and some varmint hunting. My
focus has changed over the years. In Durango, it was big game hunting and handgun varmint
hunting. Shotgun shooting has been my focus in the past and I always enjoy it. I love trap and
skeet and sporting clays. I've taken several big game animals with a muzzle loader. For a while, I
shot bench rest with Jack Snyder here at the club. Varmint hunting with precision rifles is my
primary hunting focus currently. Practical pistol and 3 gun are my current passions and I try to
make all of the club shoots for these.
Hobbies
Well, obviously, shooting. I love to fish, especially small high mountain streams. Hiking,
backpacking, four wheeling/off roading, exploring back country to the point that I'm not quite
sure where I am. I like making things (mostly out of metal). Fixing things. Hobby gunsmithing. I
like long range shooting at small furry rodents. I go skiing once every 2-3 years just so I
remember how.
Advancement of the club
5
Of course I'm in favor of improved equipment where needed and applicable. Examples would be
regular maintenance and use of the running deer setup, resetting steel targets for pistol shooting
at the MFF. I dream of a 500 yard rifle range and would support efforts to bring this to fruition. I
also would like to bring back some form of organized bench rest or varmint match shooting (no
live targets) at the club. This could start out as informal shoots just to get some people together at
a regular time and see how small a group we can shoot off bench or bipod and could morph into
NBRSA or Varmint Hunters Association sanctioned shoots.
Position: Recording Secretary:
Dan Zettler: I am a spacecraft mechanical design engineer working for
Commercial Space. I joined Lockheed Martin Commercial after
graduating from Drexel University in 2012. I transferred to Denver from
Newtown after the plant closed in July of 2014. I got married this past
October to my wife Sarah, and adopted a German shepherd mix puppy
in December.
My shooting interests include rifle and pistol shooting, as well as
reloading for both. I shoot primarily AR-pattern rifles, but for pistols I
prefer the classics: 1911s and revolvers. Outside of shooting, I enjoy
hiking, camping, and martial arts.
My primary goal in serving on the SHFC board of directors is to grow
club membership. The main target of my membership outreach will be younger employees and
veterans. Both of these demographics are currently underrepresented in the club population and
can help to spur and sustain interest in the shooting sports- something necessary to prevent future
infringements on our Second Amendment freedoms. I would utilize the TV screens posted
around Lockheed’s campus as well as the NESSC (New Employees of Space Systems Company)
orientation and newsletter to draw in new members by highlighting items of interest that appeal
to the younger generation of shooters (such as practical pistol and 3-gun).
Jim Cathcart: I am running for Recording Secretary. I have been a member of SHFC for
almost 30 years. I have been on the board since 2010. I have served as President twice and was
Recording Secretary last year. During my two terms as President, I oversaw the team of
members tasked with reopening the range after the fire and after the accidental shooting. I am an
NRA Training Councilor, Certified Instructor, and Chief Range Safety Officer. Firearms are a
huge passion for me and have been for my entire life. I really enjoy serving on the BOD because
it gives me a chance to meet so many club members and ensure that SHFC is being run the way
that YOU want it to be done. It will be my pleasure to continue this work in 2016.
Position: Corresponding Secretary
Walter Tang: 2015 Corresponding Secretary and SHFC Honorary Life Member. Recently
retired from LM. Coordinator for SHFC 3 gun matches and the General Membership Steel Day
event. NRA certified RSO and Instructor for Basic Pistol and Personal Protection In the Home.
My goal is to improve communication with our members to help promote involvement,
6
participation, fun, safety and membership growth. Assure board functions per the club By-Laws
and spends budget responsibly.
Position: Treasurer:
Amy Flanagan: 38 year career in aerospace. Retired from LM.
Activities:
Pursuing a Masters Degree in Accountancy
Part-time accountant for a Highlands Ranch firm (seasonal)
Colorado Master Gardener and
Colorado Native Plant Master through the Colorado State University Extension
Douglas County Sheriff’s Department Victims’ Advocate volunteer
U.S. National Park Service Master Ranger Volunteer, Trails and Rails Program
2014 Director, Skyline Hunting and Fishing Club
2015 Treasurer
I am the club’s liaison for liability insurance and club memberships with SIAI, NSSA, NSSF. I
submit state and federal filings.
I occasionally pistol shoot with my family at our range.
I am an infrequent RSO.
Other interests include running, fiber arts and Grandma duties.
Position: Director 2018:
Dennis Dal Pra: Lockheed Martin employee since 1979; transferred to
Denver from Sunnyvale in 2002 and have been a club member since. Past
club Treasurer and President; pistol and rifle shooter; enjoy road trips in
the mountains and off-road exploring. Enjoy helping the club be
successful, my focus would be on member safety and keeping the club
open and accessible.
Randy Houchen: I am running for the At Large member of the Skyline
Hunting and Fishing Club’s Board of Directors. I have been a member of
the Club since 2001 when I started with LMCO’s Security and
Emergency Services. During my LMCO career I served as the Senior
Firearms Instructor and LMCO’s liaison with the Skyline Hunting and
Fishing Club. In February 2015 I retired from Lockheed Martin, but
continue to be involved with the Club activities and I am currently a
Range Safety Officer (RSO) and a member of the NRA with instructor
certifications in LE pistol, shotgun, and rifle training. I enjoy all outdoor
activities including shooting sports, waterfowl hunting, and fishing. I
7
spent last summer renovating a 1971 Amerigo F-16 camper and participating in the Club’s AK47 build program.
I would appreciate the opportunity to represent the Skyline Hunting and Fishing Club
membership as a Director and would continue to build on the many exciting activities and
projects that the Club has promoted in the past. I would continue to foster a cooperative
relationship with LMCO, beneficial external organizations, and the membership. Additionally, I
would ensure that the Club remains financially sound and the infrastructure is adequately
maintained.

NEW REQUIREMENT FOR 2016 TO BE RSO
See below for updates to the SHFC RSO program. These changes and new RSO requirements
were made by the board to improve RSO sign up on the RSO calendar to allow better access to
general membership.
Range Safety Officer (RSO) Changes to Support SHFC
Problem Description: Members have been told that access to the firearm ranges requires an RSO
to have signed up on the calendar. Members are complaining access is very difficult when there’s
no one signed up.
Current Environment: The club has a company requirement that firearm ranges must have a
Range Safety Officer (RSO) overseeing safety and access requirements to consider the range as
Open. The club has over 200 members that have been trained to perform the duties as Range
Safety Officers (RSOs). The critical shortage of RSOs signing up for coverage of the Range
prompted the Board to ask for recommendations for changes. Meetings were held to solicit ideas
8
and propose actions with many experienced RSOs present or through other suggestion paths. We
received a wide array of everything imaginable.
Corrective Actions: The following are the actions that received the Board’s approval to form the
basis for our 2016 program; these will be discussed in detail at the Annual Safety Briefings that
will begin in March.
1.
There has not been a mandatory service requirement to allow people to maintain their
RSO capability. The new requirement beginning 2016 membership year is: to maintain or obtain
an RSO capability, individuals will be required to sign-up for 6 hours minimum on the RSO
calendar and perform the RSO duty . These hours can be done in segments to total 6 hours
minimum. Many members wanted to get their RSO capability so they are able to open the range
on their own. Most did not enter their coverage in the calendar for many reasons and therefore
the general membership was not able to count on or see the coverage. Hours done as Ad Hoc
RSO or for other club activities do NOT count toward this RSO requirement. RSO performed
hours must be recorded on the RSO calendar and on the RSO hours log, which is maintained by
Norm Viste, to verify RSO eligibility for next year’s renewal.
2.
To maintain or receive your RSO badge for 2016 membership year, RSO must sign up
for 6 hours minimum on the RSO calendar in the fiscal 2016 period (March 1, 2016 to February
28, 2017). You will not receive your RSO badge at membership renewal until you have signed
up for the minimum 6 hours total on the RSO calendar for the 2016 period. Signing up on the
RSO calendar is a commitment to perform the RSO duties. If a time conflict later arises for the
sign ups, the RSO has the flexibility to make adjustments such as swapping shifts with other
RSO, but must update the RSO calendar and perform the required minimum hours.
3.
Any members wanting to become RSOs will be offered classes to develop personnel with
this requirement and commitment to the club clearly in mind. Members are urged to contact
Gene Adamson at [email protected] for adding their name to the list and scheduling
Information.
4.
NRA RSO certification is not required to be an RSO, just the RSO training offered in 3
above which will be maintained by Gene Adamson. Therefore SHFC will no longer reimburse
the NRA RSO certification fee.
NEXT RSO CLASS
If you want to become an RSO, the next RSO class is January 26th at 5:30 pm at the club house,
please contact Gene Adamson, 303-667-2871, with any questions or to sign up.
RSO HOURS
Norm Viste has updated the Workbond Tab on the SHFC website at http://www.skylinehfc.org
to "Workbond & RSO Hours" so that it now provides access to the latest tabulation of RSO
Hours worked from Feb 2015 on, to support the requirements for RSO Hours for Registration
next February. If you want to become an RSO, please contact Gene Adamson, 303-667-2871,
with any questions.

2016 NRA CLASSES
We have tentatively scheduled a Basic Pistol class in April (April 14th; 16th) and a Personal
Protection in the Home class in May (May 19th; 21st and 23rd). Class slots are first come first
served. Class date will be confirmed when we get the minimum required students to hold the
class. If the class is sold out, we’ll start a wait list and when wait list exceeds the minimum we’ll
schedule another class. So please signup or get on the wait list to assure we have at least the
minimum students to hold the classes. Please contact Gene Adamson,303-667-2871 to signup.
We are trying a two day format for BP class to see if students like that better. The 14th is
classroom session in the evening 6 pm to 10 pm. The 16th is a range session in the morning from
8am to 1 pm and then a classroom session in the afternoon finishing at around 5 pm.
PPITH is the typical schedule with classroom on the 19th 23rd from 6 to 10 pm and range session
on the 21st from 8 am to 1 pm.
SHFC offers NRA Classes in Basic Pistol (BP) and Personal Protection in the Home (PPITH).
These BP Classes include familiarization with a handgun, how it works, safe storage, etcetera
and shooting at the SHFC Range. BP is a pre-requisite for PPITH; Please visit the SHFC NRA
Class site for more information.
If you have questions concerning these classes, please contact Gene Adamson, Jim Cathcart or
the listed lead instructor.
RANGE SAFETY TIP OF THE MONTH
New snow shovels are available in the back part of the RSO shed for members use to clear
shooting areas of snow. Please put the shovels back in the RSO shed after you’re done. Thank
you.
MEMBERS INPUT
If you have club related pictures, stories, member news, comments, suggestions or questions,
please send them to me [email protected] or other board member and I’ll put it on here.
If it’s a question or suggestion, we’ll put the answer or board response on here also.
Here’s a picture of Arthur Henry and
the elk he took in December north of
Craig. Hunt was an RFW hunt.
Mature cow elk was hit once at 222
yards with a 225 gn .338 Winchester
Magnum bullet. Bullet blew through a
rib on entering and exited the opposite
side of the animal between two ribs.
